Short Review: I highly recommend Precisions Eyecare Centers to anyone looking for an eye doctor. You can't go wrong with these folks. About six years ago, Dr. Redman identified a retinal tear in my left eye and immediately referred me to an expert surgeon (Dr. Weiland) who promptly fixed the tear for me. I'm pleased to report, that due to Dr. Redman's initiative and expertise, and Dr. Weiland's skilled hand as a surgeon, my eyesight is still intact. In-Depth Review: I have been a Precision Eyecare Centers (PEC) patient since I was just a boy (I am now 31). Even though I am insured by an integrated health plan through my employer, poor quality care with the optometrists in the health plan drove me back to the doctors and staff I knew I could trust at PEC. I knew my health plan coverage would not cover the visit to PEC, but I went anyway, because I knew the folks at PEC would help fix the problems that the health plan doctors had caused (i.e. wrong prescription). Even though it cost me significantly more to see Dr. Redman at PEC than to see a health plan doc, I can honestly say that I am well pleased with my decision. Staff The two people who helped me during my most recent visit were Vanessa and Dr. Redman. Vanessa, the very efficient, friendly and cheerful staff person who prepared me to see the doctor, discussed everything that would be done by the doctor during the visit and how much it would all cost. She worked quickly, but didn't make me feel rushed, and didn't seem stressed out at all during the intake process. Though she worked quickly, she remained cheerful and friendly, which helped me relax, and made the entire intake process more pleasant. The Doctor Seeing Dr. Redman again for the first time in about six years was like seeing an old family friend. We were both happy to see each other and spent a bit of time just catching up on all that had happened over the last six years. Once it was time for the exam, Dr. Redman quickly figured out that the health plan doctor had given me too high a prescription, and this was what was behind my vision problems and hazy dizziness of late. Once Dr. Redman had identified the correct prescription, he asked me to remove my contacts and throw them away. Within a few second he was back with a new pair of lenses in the right diopter and base curve for my eyes, and asked me to put them in. He explained that they were disposable, one-day lenses and he recommended them to me because of my eye dryness, and because they were thinner than the lenses I had been using previously. (He also recommended omega 3 oil supplements to help with my eye dryness; something I haven't tried yet.) He then immediately supplied me with additional lenses and talked about pricing for more one-day disposable lenses (1-Day Acuvue TruEye). Dr. Redman's knowledge, expertise and friendliness showed through during this process. - He knows all about pricing and brands and even vendors who sell contacts like coastal contacts and others. In my personal experience, I find this unique and exceptional. I also briefly talked to Dr. Redman about lasek (i.e. laser vision corrective surgery) and he was open to the conversation and even said they had a surgeon they refer their patients too. I also talked to him about how I was having trouble focusing on things up close. He examined me quickly and thoroughly, and then recommended a pair of +1 reading glasses to help ease eyestrain. He explained that PEC could could hook me up with a nice pair of +1 reading glasses, or I could get some cheap ones at CVS next door. This showed me that he was considering my interest and my situation, providing me with options and leaving the final decision up to me. I appreciated this because it made me trust him as an advocate. The Office The office itself is in a nice part of Mountain View with restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance (e.g. Chipotle, Panda Express and Starbucks) and even a CVS a few shops down from the PEC office. Inside the office, there is a nice wood floor, chairs, magazines to read, and even a Keurig coffee maker where you can make yourself a fresh cup of coffee while you wait to see a doctor. All in all, these guys are great and I highly recommend them. I have no interest in, or thoughts of looking for another eye doctor. PEC has consistently come through for me, and has always provided me with excellent care and service. If you are considering going to PEC, don't wait, just book an appointment. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've seen Dr. Chinn for many, many, many years, when he first took over the practice from my previous optometrist. His practice is located in a nice shopping center off El Camino and El Monte. Each of my visits with Dr. Chinn has been good - he examines my eyes and then I order contacts or glasses. There was one year where I switched contact type and brand (to extended wear) and my eyes got irritated and watery. Dr. Chinn worked with me to find the right brand. There is a good selection of designer glasses and the opticians are good with fitting and giving their opinions whenever I try on the glasses. His office seems to have the latest in eyecare - they have something called an Optomap (I think that's the name) so that dialation of the eyes is no longer needed. You have to pay for this service since insurance does not cover (at least VSP does not cover). Makes it much easier not to have to wait for the eyes to dialate or to have problems seeing close afterwards. He shares the practice with Dr. Redman who I've only seen once so I cannot comment on him. As a plus, if you book with enough advance time, you can get a Saturday appointment which makes it very convenient. I don't believe that Dr. Chinn works every Saturday. Overall, I have been satisfied with Dr. Chinn as my optometrist. read more

Because I've had to come in a few times, I've seen both Dr. Redman and Dr. Chinn. They're both really nice, attentive, and patient. They take good care to make sure that my contacts fit well. The office's extended hours also makes visiting them really convenient! One area of improvement would be their front desk can do a better job at following up with appointment reminders, paperwork etc. They were supposed to get the files from my previous eye doctor and it took multiple reminders from the doctors before they followed through. That said, to the office's credit, they were great in working with my insurance to get the claims. read more

Stephanie Yang is the worst. She took my eye exam. Her prescribed glasses are much worse than my previous glasses. I could not see anything with her prescribed glasses. To make the matters worse, she and the store waitress tried to rip me off with her progressive option by charging the high fee. She and the store waitress said, without the progressive option, I cannot see while I drive. Glasses are useless when I cannot see while drive. Bottom line: I visited many eyeglasses stores, but I never saw someone who tried to rip me off with this stupid option. Stephanie's performance: bottom. I've worn contacts for over 30 years. For many years I had to wear reading glasses on top of my contacts because no other dr. would take the time to figure out what would work for me. It took only one try as I remember (some 12 years ago) but they found a prescription that gives my almost blind uncorrected vision, ability to read small print, drive, internet, etc. with only my contacts. I really like the thoroughness of the exam and the great personalities of Dr. Chinn and Dr. Redmond. I drive for 1 1/2 hrs. to visit their office since I moved. I changed my eye doctor from time to time due to unsatisfying experience in the past until I walked into Dr Redman's practice more than a decade ago. I have been going there every year since. Dr Redman has a simple and fun way to answer any eye health related questions I have. Their eye exam equipment is sleek. Dr Redman always takes time to review my eye exam results, history and trend with me, and pay attention to some potential issues due to my family history which I casually mentioned in my first visit years ago. You not only walk away with an updated prescription, but also confidence in your eye health. I have sensitive eyes and wear contact lens. Dr Redman is very knowledgeable about all the new options and makes recommendations based on my individual need. No matter how much research on contact lens you do on line, the only way to get what is best for you is through the professionals. I did also get glasses there a couple of times and was impressed by the staff's expertise and patience in guiding you to make the right choice. I almost felt guilty how much time they spent on adjusting the frame to sit perfectly on my not so perfectly leveled nose.I didn't know how big of difference a professional fitting can make. I guess you never know what you have missed. The whole practice operates efficiently. I never had to wait for long at an appointment. Seeing patients in all ages going in and out and Dr Redman greeting them like old acquaintances, you get a sense of community. I am an early Amazon adopter and prefer to handle any matter online if possible. I don't think I am ready, if ever, to let go my experience with Precision eye care. read more

This was probably the most thorough eye exam I've ever had, and I've had a lot! The entire office is very professional and nice, and Dr. Salgado is so patient---she answered all my questions completely. She wants you to know what's going on with your eye health, in addition to writing an accurate prescription. I found Precision Eyecare by accident because they take my insurance. They have a really great assortment of frames, esp. for someone like me who has a small face and needs more petite choices. I'll be going back for my next eye exam for sure, and I'm happy to have found them! read more

I purchased frames from here, so this review is for that aspect only. They accept walk-ins for glasses, and within a few minutes an optician came out to help me decide on a pair. I appreciated that it wasn't sales-y and they weren't pushing specific brands or more expensive pairs (ballin' on a budget since '93 over here.) I was in and out within 30 minutes! I ordered during the holidays, Dec 22, and my frames were available for pickup January 6, so not a bad wait at all. The selection isn't as wide as Lenscrafters, but they have enough that you will most likely find a pair that you like. I would definitely return here! read more

I left the place without being even checked up, the old woman behind the counter was the rudest person in the world. I had an appointment at 2 pm, I had told them that they needed to take me on time because I had to pick up my daughter to take her to the dentist. So I get there at 1:45 pm, the woman in the counter wasn't very nice, nor with me neither with other people there, not even with her coworker. At 2:10 I ask if the doctor is going to be on time, and she says something like "doctors are never on time, when have you seen a doctor being on time" then I tell her that the same way that I am being respectful with the doctor's time I expect the same thing from him, and she says that they have a lot of patients and that I expect that the doctor is not looking at the clock when he is with me, I tell her that maybe the doctor should take less appointments and be on time... so I tell her thanks for wasting my time, and left. If the reception desk woman treats people like this, I prefer to spend my money somewhere else. read more

It is easy to make an appointment. The office staff mails the forms before hand and the checkin time is very little. However, the entire staff including the doctor are more focused on selling services like exams that a person doesn't need. Their collection of frames is not impressive. read more

I have hit and miss moments here. Dr. Redman and Dr. Chinn are very nice and very skilled at what they do. But some of the girls upfront, need listen to what they say. One girl told me that my insurance would cover my contacts for the whole year and I agreed. The when I went back in to get more, another girl told me my insurance only covered 4 months. I was pissed. The doctor is really nice, however, it has been 3 weeks since I paid for my pair of glasses and I never received a phone call.

So the exam was smooth and the optometrist was graceful when I told him the wrong contact prescription. He probably thought I was crazy. That's was the good part. I called and gave them the right prescription. The bad part was on the glasses fitting. They have an assistant help you, which I find really annoying and trying to upsell crap on the lenses. They also have a really poor selection and not very reasonable prices. From the outset just ask to browse the frames yourself. Make sure you ask what they are charging, because there was a 30 dollar charge at the end for something I didn't request. The two stars is for the good exam, and the three off are for the terrible glasses experience. read more

I cannot imagine a better Ophthalmologist/Optician environment. Convenient location, great hours (including Saturday!), Dr. Chinn is AWESOME. He knows what's he is doing and is very good at communicating findings and treatments. The staff is impeccably polite, ALWAYS. When you phone them to order contacts or make an appointment -- the competence is consistently impressive. You never have to repeat yourself; the staff seems to be ahead of you. read more

Is it weird that my favorite health care provider is my optometrist? I've been seeing Dr. Chinn here for about 10 years, and he is a caring and compassionate doctor who will give you the time you need, instead of just shuffling you out the door. He has a great sense of humor and puts up with my jokes about the glaucoma test (which I call the pokey-stick test). And for a doctor I see only once a year, it is very cool that he remembers me each time I go in. And yeah, the retinal picture thing is quite cool. I love it that I don't have to get my eyes dilated anymore. read more

Came here for my daughters eye check up. The receptionist was very nice and helped us right away. Filled out forms and was taken to the exam room promptly. The initial exam was quick and then the exam with the Dr was done wonderfully. He asked my daughter questions and made her feel comfortable while taken the eye test. We will be back in a few years to see if she needs glasses later on. read more

Remember that episode of Friends where Rachel has the puff test? That's me. It's a little embarassing given that I'm in my 30s and should know better than to act like a child. Needless to say, I hate going to the eye doctor because of that damn test. Anyway, no need to worry about that at Precision Eyecare - yes you still get a thorough eye examination (mine lasted over an hour!) and have the glaucoma test, but they use a different (and less anxiety-ridden) method. They also have this cool machine that takes a retinal scan of your eye (and bypasses those yucky dilation drops). I just got some new contacts and went back twice for some follow up checkups to make sure they fit well. That has never happened to me before in my 15 years of wearing contacts! It's a testimony to the thoroughness of Precision Eyecare - they really want to ensure you have visual acuity and comfort. Big thumbs up to the staff and Dr. Chinn. I no longer fear going to the eye doctor. The only downside to this place is the frames selection - it's a little bit light. read more

They had cute frames that fit her face (she specifically wanted pink and found those here I went to two other places and couldn't find them in that color) and I also ordered her a second pair for 40% off which were also super cute. Staff was friendly and quick. Would come here again. Still haven't picked up the glasses but they take a couple of weeks so it's expected. read more

I have had a couple of eye emergencies in the past and was able to be scheduled immediately. The potentially serious conditions were treated and healed nicely. Then I started seeing Dr. Chinn 17 years ago. I've never been happier with an eye doctor. My wife and I now drive our two daughters an hour each year to see him for our annual checkups. I really like this place. I tried four other eye care clinics before finding Precison Eyecare. They have state of the art equipment so I my eyes don't need to be dilated for the exam. I expected to be rushed out of the office since it was the evening before the July 4th holiday, but instead I was given lots of attention and a thorough eye exam. Contact prescription was just right. Also, I've been contemplating lasik eye surgery but felt a bit aprehensive. Dr. Redman explained the surgery to me and even gave me a computer demo. I have had a good experience the three times I have gone (1 time for me and twice for other family members). The girl who helps with glasses was very helpful (I was so difficult because I had to change everything after the fact). I think her name is Yuma or something like it- she was patient and didn't get an attitude when I totally messed everything up and she had to fix it. Also of note: The first time I went I came in to get a lens change for old glasses I love. I had the RX from another eye doctor. When I picked up the glasses I realized the eye doctor had given me the wrong RX. I asked Precision if there were possibly two RX's written on same paper and I got the wrong one. There wasn't but they offered to fix the glasses for free if i could bring in a new RX. They may not be cheap but they are helpful and more than fair. I safely recommend them although I think you pay for the convenience. You can get a fast appointment, no waiting, great equipment and doctors. read more
