I'm a regular VIP customer here at this location. went in today to do some shopping and witnessed another customer giving the staff a hard time. Customer was not only being unreasonable but she also berated and belittle two of the staff members. I come here a lot and the staff is always so friendly and helpful. Even after the customer was cussing at them and even insulting the other male employee by calling him an idiot, the one young lady behind the counter handled herself very well and professionally. I see her there from time to time when I go in and she's always very sweet and kind. I felt bad for her and was gonna step in but I felt she handled it very well for someone who looks so young. Kudos to her for keeping her composer and remaining calm even while being verbally attacked. This staff will always get 5 stars from me because I've always had nothing but the best experiences when I shop there. Keep up the GREAT work. read more

Stumbled into FYE at the mall with my boyfriend and instantly knew this place was our kind of vibe. As huge fans of collectibles, we were seriously impressed by their unique and well-rounded selection. Everything from toys and clothing to movies and tons of fun merch. I was living for all the nostalgic finds! They had goodies from Scooby-Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, Invader Zim, SpongeBob, Pokémon, and so many other cartoons I grew up loving (and still do). It honestly felt like stepping into a curated throwback dream. They also had tons of cool Sanrio and Anime stuff. Fair warning though... this place is dangerous for your wallet in the best way possible because I kept finding things I wanted. Luckily, they had a lot of in-store promotions and prices that felt super reasonable. The store itself is spacious and nicely organized, so it didn't feel overwhelming despite how much they carry. The staff was also super friendly and helpful, which always makes a difference. As a horror movie lover, I was especially excited when my boyfriend surprised me with the "King of Horror Expanded Edition 8-Film" DVD set--such an amazing find! I've been wanting to build up my physical media collection, and this felt like the perfect start. Safe to say, I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the mood to treat myself. read more

Fye brings me back to the days of Tower Records, and Amoeba in Hollywood. They bring a bit of history with a twist of new mixed together. You can find Music in Vinyl and CD forms. Next aisle, you can find figurines of music memorabilia to new school Funky Pop. You can browse another aisle and there's a t-shirt wall, then plushees . Prices is a hit and miss ,... but I do like to visit this store . There's so much to see. read more

While waiting at the register to be helped, this young lady was sitting on the floor behind the register on a video chat phone call. There was a young man at the register standing there counting money at the register and never acknowledged us, but kept telling her "there someone at the register, someone is waiting" saying it to her multiple times and finally she got up and started using the register. Claiming she didn't know how to produce a gift receipt asking the boy next to her for instructions on how to do it. While the entire time she was on a FaceTime call with the phone sitting on the register making sexual slurs to the female on the other line. Calling the girl her "mami" and her "baddie" but then had the nerve to tell us she was on a business call. When I told her to just cancel the transaction and refund me, her response was "WOW, like why, what is the issue!?" I informed her that her unprofessional manner, being on the phone while we are being helped and the boy just ignoring us and never acknowledging us while we waited is something I'm not going to support. She immediately stated she needed my email, phone number and license? Why? I just purchased it 30 seconds ago and you have my receipt. After telling her how unprofessional she was along with the boy, she became very loud, obnoxious with us and even sarcastic laughing at the fact that we felt disrespected. When we asked who she was she stated she was the assistant store manager and that she is the only one who can produce a refund or gift receipt. Yet she was asking the other cashier how to do it. She refused to show us her name tag stating she was on her lunch and when asked why is she operating a register while off the clock she tried to change her story saying she "was" on lunch but is now back from lunch. Couldn't get her story straight. This is ridiculous that FYE chose to put someone with this type of rudeness and lack of customer service in charge of their store. Makes sense why it's going out of business, not just that but why is your assistance store manager using her phone on FaceTime while operating a cashier off the clock no name tag and processing a transaction with my ID and Credit card where she was openly showing to her FaceTime caller. All my information was exposed to this person. Not just that she opened an account for FYE with my info. Minutes after I left the store I got an email stating "welcome to FYE and thank you for opening an account" are you freaken serious. What kind of scam do you guys have going on. read more

This store lists it's closing time at 9pm. So I dont understand why as my husband and I were going to walk in at 830pm we were shoo'd out by an employee stating they're already closed... this behavior is becoming oddly prominent amongst more businesses and I dont get it. If you want your employees to leave by 9...then close at 830. Advertising a closing time and ushering out potential customers is a silly business model which completely supports why this place has such a low yelp rating- among many issues apparently. read more

Took forever to just get a price check on one of the only things that they had in stock and I felt bad for taking their time up so when they said that they had a loyalty card and started pushing it, I figured it wouldn't be an issue since they just needed an email address right? Apparently, FYE Backstage VIP is a well known scam though and they had signed me up for it without previously telling me that it would start charging me. When I called them out on it, they confessed and just directed me on how Id be able to cancel and its been 2 days going back and forth with FYE via email and phone to cancel this service I was tricked into getting. No apologies just "ha yea actually its paid you can cancel here ok bye" no remorse over the bait and switching. I found out FYE used to be Suncoast which I used to enjoy going to and thought it'd be nice to check it out but I'm going to be avoiding this chain in the future. I'm so disappointed and irritated with this store and hope to see it for lease but given the lack of inventory it's already halfway there. read more

Browsing through the music section particularly the K-pop section and noticed that many albums were outrageously priced. They were far above the original retail price. These albums are still in print so I don't understand the price gouge. I've personally found these and many more at a fraction of the price. Moral of the story stick to Amazon, your local k-pop stations or literally any other retailer! read more

Imagine you find two versions of the same album you like on vinyl. One of them is a bare picture disc in a disposable plastic sleeve and the other is a mystery disc inside a traditional cardboard sleeve. Surprisingly enough, the fancy bare picture disc is a few dollars cheaper than the properly sleeved album. Does that mean the sleeved album also has a picture disc inside? Well, I didn't have to imagine any of this. It actually happened to me! There I was: flummoxed, baffled, almost discombobulated. Well, not really. It was something of a head scratcher though so I asked one of the employees there if she knew what was inside the sleeve and she didn't but she googled it! I mean I guess I could have done that too and maybe I should have but still, it was an excellent display of customer service that moved me enough to write this review. For what it's worth, the album was The Black Parade by MCR. Those who know, know lol. I ended up getting something else, though. Not only that, I ended up returning it some time later because I never even opened it because streaming lol. 5 stars out of 5! read more

In this day of age there's very few DVD, Bluray, Music CD specialty stores around, and to find a FYE store here at the Shops of Montebello may help you full-fill a collection. Coming in I was hoping to find any collectible merchandise on sale. There were a few deals here and there, but not really the items I'm looking for that suit my taste. The were deals like buy one t-shirt get the second half off. Bundle deals on used DVD movies. Percentage off on Pop! figures. There's a clearance section at the back of the store for deep discounted items. Service inside the store was good. I did have an employee walk up to me if I needed help. Overall, there wasn't really a significant buy here in FYE. Outside of some of the odd ball deals, in general I did find the prices here fairly high. Being a specialty store that it is, they do sell exclusive items like speakers, turntables, gadgets, and cool toy collectables. read more

shady place! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR SO CALLED REWARDS PROGRAM. They told me their rewards program "wasn't a credit card" so I wouldn't get charged monthly. So, I agreed to it thinking it was a regular rewards program. But tell me why AFTER I got the card and gave all my information, they say "you'll be charged, but you can cancel anytime" and I was just standing there like what??? I'm so ANNOYED. Not to mention, after I cancelled my rewards card I am now being charged for these TME magazines that they claim to be "free" with your rewards program. FALSE INFORMATION GIVEN BY EMPLOYEES. I am being scammed by these magazine people and now have $100 charged on my account because of them. SO ANNOYING. Not going back here again. Another PSA to beware of the "VIP Backstage Pass" offered at checkout. This goes for every FYE store. I was at this specific location last month (which is why I'm posting my review here), cashier asks if I want to sign up for the points programs to get 10% my purchase right then and every time I shop at fye. Wasn't until I was all checked out that I see pamphlet says it's a one month free trial but $11.99 afterwards. At the time I didn't think much of it, I've tried several other trials where everything was history after quitting during the free period. I do a search for more info on the backstage pass program and I suddenly realize it's a scam after reading negative review after negative review from people who still kept getting charged without their knowledge (because they were never given the info booklet and plus were lied to by cashiers telling them it was absolutely free forever), or even people who cancelled within the free period would still get charged by having their cancel requests ignored. Apparently the representatives at the phone number listed will try to fight you to keep the program by offering to lower the price to $5 monthly instead of the $11.99, etc. Even if you are interested in the program, people who tried it out said the coupons they offered are bogus and retailers don't honor them. This rewards program is a money grubbing scam. Unbelievable that such a big mainstream company has been allowed to go on with this for years! I saw negative reviews dating back 2009!! My free trial month isn't up yet so I've requested for my bank to cancel my current credit card and send me a replacement so hopefully FYE and their "free magazine" scam don't charge me. I'll also be avoiding this company from now on. Even though I've been here a handful of times since 2017 and my experience was normal/good, discovering this thing left a bad impression on me. Often the cashiers can't always be completely to blame because management sets a quota of how many VIP signups they must get and employee who don't push it tend to get less hours/pay. If you still want to buy something from any FYE store then use cash only. Because some people were sneakily signed up without their knowledge by cashiers sneakily scanning a code and saving the customer's credit card number. If you're looking for k-pop albums then there's a store in La Habra called K-pop Republic that sells 100% k-pop with a good selection. read more

I've never been to a store that was this shady. They train their employees to scam you into signing up for 10% off your purchase, but conveniently forget to explain the $12 dollars a month charge on your card. Funny thing is, I cancelled my debit card, and all my subscriptions I had stopped charging me EXCEPT this one. They were somehow able to get access to my back account number. Even if you know about the scam and just say no to the sign up - please don't shop at a place like this that has such a petty and sad way to make extra money. read more

When we asked how much it costs, she said we pay "Nothing" and that we only need to provide an email address. Didn't think these even existed anymore! Cool and old school. Managed to find myself some ancient things called CDs. Those little round discs that when placed in an appropriate reader, would elicit music (wow, I know right?!) We had to make a long wait in line because of Covid which is understandable but when the time came US coming into the store I had an amazing experience. I went in to buy a gift for my friend. I payed with my debit card. For months I never payed attention to my bank statements but after awhile I noticed I was missing a little bit of money.. when I logged into my bank statement app, I saw that I was getting charged $12 every month for some type of subscription I NEVER authorized to. When I called costumer service to cancel, they gave me a hard time and told me to think about it and call back if I was sure to cancel!!! Wtf ?? The lady "cancelled" my card but I read online that many people were still getting charged even after cancelling. I called my bank and filed a claim. Thankfully my bank cancelles my card just in case they did still try to charge me and gave me a refund for those few months and FYE is now under investigation. I bought Headphones here. They were defective. The store did not have bags when I bought these headphones. The cashier with a lot of piercings on his face had bad attitude. I then called for the manager, who has also nonchalant attitude about not having bags in a very big store. They hid cheap headphones in the back and put the more expensive ones on display, they're the same models. This store and its employee and its manager R shady. Nicely remodeled! I thought this was a new store so I decided to look around. The blonde girl was surprisingly very quick with finding my cds (music section is confusing) and the cashier was nice enough sign me up for the free month membership so I can save some money!! I saw reviews about employees not mentioning the cancellation and charge so I want to bring this up, the girl that helped me explained it pretty well so I didn't have that problem.
