Originally came to Book Off because I saw it had merchandise from Tokyo Sea. Apparently so did everyone else. By the time I came, all the good merch were sold out. But no fear, they have so many other items to choose from. They offer books, collectable figurines, old game consoles and games, vinyls, and many other items. Some are Japanese related but not all of them are. I would say it's a pretty good sized store and everything is organized and labeled. It's fun rummaging through the boxes to see what goodies one might find, remember that this is a used book store so most items are pre-loved. I didn't get any Tokyo Sea items but I did get a pre-loved well kept Japanese Pressed vinyl of Air Supply's greatest hits! Priced at only $19, I thought it was a great find. Clean, well organized, lots of things to go through. Definitely a place worth checking out if you like hunting for treasure. read more

Background On Visit: Decided to stop by to take a gander at their single Pokemon cards. They don't offer much english prints, but they do have a massive collection of Japanese ones. They are a Japanese based company. Credit Cards: They're accepted. Price Point: In regards to Pokemon cards. Higher than others. Considering that most common single loose bulk card is dollar. They don't use tcgplayer for price guidance. Location/Parking: Parking can be found in plaza that is share with many shops. Ambiance/Decor: Disneyland For Collectors! You'll feel a little overwhelmed with all the offerings that they have at the shop. Offerings: They sell cd's, dvd's, toys, cassettes, anime/manga stuff, Pop Figurines, video consoles and games, trading cards, and used books. You can also sell your stuff their also. Service: Service is decent, but can take a while if there's people that want to get their collectibles appraised or to purchase something. Experience: Had a okay experience. This is our first visit to Book Off. We are normally not just hanging around in Monterey Park, but we had a lot of time this visit and I love a bookstore. This is mostly used books. They also have CDs and other items. They have a great selection of books. Their prices are a tad high, but not insane. It is my understanding that they don't pay much for books you bring into sell, but I have found that to be true where ever I go. I just don't bother anymore and give my books away. The service is great. They know where the books are, there are so many, and they will actually help you and not just point in some direction. Parking is easy and free. The place is packed with books, but you can get through with no problem. I found a couple of books that I did not have and have not had the chance to read. All in all I was very happy. read more

This store has a lot of international dolls, books, and music. It is near lots of restaurants and fast food spots. I am a fan of K-Pop bands New Jeans, Aespa, Black Pink, Le sserafim, Illit, IVE, Twice, Fifty Fifty, Wonder Girls. I go straight to the K-Pop section. Although, the K-Pop section is not huge and the store has so much more. They have toys, books, music of so many genres. They have collector dolls and I think I saw cards too. There is parking in this shared plaza, pretty big, right across the street from East Los Angeles College. I came here to sell my books. I like that it was a very simple process. There's a counter by the front. They have a dolly you can borrow to bring your books in, they just can't help you outside. I brought in over 300 books and they were able to get back to me with a quote within 1-2 hours so they're really quick! I have been to other Book Off locations but this is the best value I found especially for book lovers looking for a great deal! The selection of books ranges from non-fiction to thriller and romance novels that include older to newer selection of books. I found popular books for less than $10 and other literature were stored for a really good price. I could spend an entire day looking through all of the books, I definitely recommend this location for book lovers and they have other items worth taking a look at too! I am looking forward to coming here often to get more books and even get a trade in value deal. There is a deal where you can drop off your items at the front of the store cashier and have the attendants price your items while you look around the store. I've never been to this book off, as most people go to Lakewood. It sparked my curiosity to check it out! I do agree the prices are a HIT or MISS but you'll definitely find a little bit of everything here. Unfortunately I did not find the mangas I was looking for, but this location offers many more items and it was actually fun looking thru everything spent about 45 minutes in store throughly checking each section.. ending up coming out with a Jojo Figure. Of course the money they offer you is a total joke with what you bring in. I took 9 still sealed horror blu-rays and 2 used complete season DVD's of a TV show. One of the blurays was an out of print STEELBOOK still sealed copy of terrifier that sells for well over $100 on ebay. Dude goes over my things which takes well over 30mins,kind of long for things that are sealed dont you think ? And offers me a whopping $12.30 WOWWWW that aint even enough for a Double Western combo at the nearby Carls Jr. Total joke of a store that i will admit,has cool stuff but literally everything is overpriced way above fair market value. Finally a book off at SGV! I went to book off in shinjuku, Tokyo and the one in little Tokyo. And i am pretty familiar with how book off works. They sell second hand model/books/manga. As well as new one. Different book off prices their products totally differently. It's a bit like a treasure hunt and sometimes you will find what you like. This book off at Monterey is mainly heavily into used books, with half of the stores for books. Plus a small section of used model or anime related products. And I found that this book off priced items SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the one in little Tokyo. Some of the anime products that they are selling is at least double the price!! As for the brand new model, esp Good smile Nendoroid. They are significantly priced higher than any other stores. I would prefer the book off at little Tokyo the best if you are looking for anime/game related product. But if you like books, you would be happy about this store. For my taste, it should be only 3 stars. But I am sure for book worms, it would be like heaven to them. (They do have a bunch of gashapon in this store. But they are old and not updated as the shops in little Tokyo. A bunch of them are almost completely out and no one is taking care of them. read more

This is from the POV of a customer and not someone trading in things. If you know me and have seen my other reviews, you'd already know that I have a love hate relationship with Book-Off and their pricing/organizational system. First things first, I am glad that the 626 has its own Book Off now! No more having to drive all the way to the Anime Lab in LT or OC or Torrance/Gardena area. This Book-Off also has a decent selection of what they offer including manga, anime goods/figures, Funko Pops (cringe), Tokyo Disney/Disneyland items, actual books (lol), video games, CD's, and even some Kuji raffle and a Gachapon wall. Unfortunately aside from maybe 2-3 of the Gachapon (miso soup, etc), I've seen at all other places that have the Bandai Gachapon sites in the anime shops, Shibuyala, Japanese market, etc. Now with the issue of organization, an effort was made to at least categorize things into what type of objects they are. So all the anime figures are together, western figures together, all manga together, clear files together, loose plushies, etc. together. Good. The biggest issue is that, as with EVERY Book Off, there is NO organization. Lol good luck sifting through everything if you're looking for a specific series, or even worse a specific character. Like, I believe someone attempted to put, some of the series together or maybe I'm just hallucinating it since there's so much leftover anime fast fashion from the big shonen series (Demon Slayer, JJK, One Piece, MHA, etc.). Unless you have the time or the hyper fixation, it's gonna be rough. As for pricing, yes, some of the prices are absurdly high, especially for very recently released figures. Meaning that you can get the exact unopened figure for a lower price (Nendoroids, prize figures, etc.) than what you can get here (but that's the case with almost every Book Off I've been to), so do your research first! However, I did see some decent pricing, such as a lower price for an opened Kuroneko nendoroid for $40 (fair) and a super vintage Love Hina figure for $25, I'm sure there's treasure here you just have to have the time and patience to find it. However, as always, super fun to go through if you wanna see who recently was forced to become a normie/moved on from their husbando/waifu. read more

On a Sunday morning in October, I finally stopped by to check it out. It is located next to CVS and waited to open at 10am. I was nicely greeted by the staff and lots of toys displayed near the door. There alot of anime figurines, manga books, LP from Japan, Tokyo Disneyland toys, dvds, books, and gashapon section. It is overwhelming of looking at all the toys. There are more toys than books. The aisles are clean and well organized. Lots of great deals of dvds $2.50, cheap used books, anime toys. Perfect for upcoming Xmas gift ideas. Nice addition in Monterey park. Compared to the location at del amo, which has 8 cards for a dollar, this location sells them at one card per dollar which is a little pricy considering it is just bulk cards and not full art or anything. Such a cool nostalgic spot, worth stopping by and taking a gander! PG13 safe, didn't see any explicit content anywhere besides some small anime figures. Staff was welcoming and reminded us that they buy any books except text books or foreign languages. They also buy back anime figures, manga, CDs, DVDs and etc. They don't buy back trading cards. They have a ton of used DVD, Blu Ray, manga, cook books and other books for cheap between $1-3 each. They also have old video games like Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Game Boy and a bunch other ones. A half wall of Gashapon. $2 per token, ranging between 2-4 tokens per machine. Bunch of options from Hello Kitty, Spy Family, One Piece, Demon Slayer, etc. There are a couple aisles of vintage collectables, Funkos, miscellaneous plushies, vintage tin lunch boxes, button/pins, key chains, trading cards, etc. Some were a bit pricy. read more

Finally a Book-Off close to me, so I wouldn't need to travel so far to sell my books. Located next to the CVS in the plaza. They sell Yu-Gi-Oh! cards here. Unfortunately they don't buy cards since they import them. They also have a lot of gashapon machines here! They have a machine where you insert your money or credit card to purchase "tokens." It is $2 per token. I was very surprised to see Cardcaptors so I got one that cost two tokens ($4). It was pricey for the size of it. read more

While this brand is known primarily for its secondhand Japanese goods, it's got a lot of American merchandise too such as other collectibles and neat sci-fi goods. This location is decently sized and there's quite a variety of deals, dollar section books and DVDs. It's a neat place to admire and pick up small keychain accessories too. Lots of old video game cards, pokemon cards, yu gi oh cards and more. Staff were helpful when I had questions on where to find products and they were polite as they restocked the aisles. I love book off and i was excited to explore a new one not too far away from me. It's true the shelves are pretty tall but they have some neat things that i havent seen before like plushies, coin machines, and tokyo disney stuff! The prices are midrange but everyone was nice when we sold a few books. We were welcomed right when we walked in. It was pretty crowded. I am so happy to have a Bookoff in the neighborhood. Visited the Torrance location which was a bit of a drive, crowded, and way over stimulating. Although this location is smaller, I still was not able to see everything in one visit. Will have to return for the rest. Started with the budget section at $1 and $2 clearance books. Continued to half of the movie section, priced DVD's at $1.99 Blu-ray's $2.99. Also picked up Action Figure 3 3/4 inch fully posable for $3.00. Staff here is super friendly. Looking forward to returning to check out the cd's, vinyls, new books, and everything else. So far, highly recommend!!! read more

Located in a busy shopping center with homeless people around, but security is active in the area as well. Once past all that the store great, display pieces are nice with prices easy to see, gotcha pon wall on the left, books for English and Japanese with a great $1 clearance book section in the back too. Media was good and organized, seemed well priced for English and Japanese games, movies, music, etc. the misc. toys and statues were the only haphazard area where I felt like there were just bins of random stuff, not organized at all, just shoved in a basket, like something you would see in a little kids room under their bed. This location just opened recently. Super tiny Book Off. Possibly the tiniest I've seen. Their selection is not great but hey, it's Book Off so it's always exciting to see anime/ video game related stuff. They do sell video game consoles and trading cards (unsleeved) if you're into that. The unique thing about this store is that they have a wide selection of Gashapon. It's a bit expensive and doesn't always work but the clerks there are helpful. I used to frequent the Costa Mesa location from 2019 till around mid 2022. This one opened up recently and I wanted to go check it out. The first thing was how big, well-organized and spacious everything is. The employees are all kind, polite, courteous and professional at all times, even if some of the patrons are a bit socially stunted. I wanted to get rid of some stuff and although they offered me just 4 bucks for a Death Note All-In-One edition that is practically new, the hassle of taking pictures, posting it on eBay, having it shipped and then barely making 10 bucks isn't worth the hassle so I just gave it to them for what they offered. I did deduct a star because, although they are well-stocked in terms of manga in English, they don't sell manga in Japanese language anymore; only the San Diego and Gardena locations still do (or so they told me). I remember going to the Costa Mesa one and buying a few manga in Japanese for language learning purposes and it was great. They were practically new and for a reasonable price. That's the only reason why I deducted a star, but if that's not a deal breaker for you, you can pretend I left a 5-star score instead :). read more

I've been here several times and each time, I've been able to find some really good deals on books. They have a wide selection of items from books to dvd to collectibles. What I don't like is the prices they give you when you want to sell something. I can go in and try to sell a book and all they offer is 50cents? I'm sorry but that's a joke to me. The gas it took me to get there costs more. I don't know where they are getting this 50cent value from. You want to tell me I can bring in a completely new and sealed boxset of books and it's only worth 50cents? And you guys turn around and will sell a beat up, worn out set for up to $60. BEWARE IF YOU ARE GOING TO SELL YOUR ITEMS!!!! So I went in to sell a couple of my funko pops. They are in box and in good condition. I left them with the employee to get them inspected and appraised. The wait was 1 hour which was understandable because they had other items to inspect and sell. After an hour I came back to know the price for all my pops and I was left in shock when I saw how much they had priced each one. Each funko pop was priced at 40¢ yet they were planning to sell them for around retail price. In total I was offered $9.10 for everything. I had to respectfully decline there offer and walk away. This is just a warning for anyone that is interested in going in and selling there items. Don't expect to get your moneys worth! read more
