2/12/2017 3pm I came to this restaurant for the third time and it has progressively gotten worse. Today I walked in and was greeted by a lovely young lady, who without her help this review would be worse. I was seated and then spoke to 2 ladies who were enjoying brunch at the bar in the corner next to the citations on the wall. Citations for what? I don't know because this place is terrible. The downfall of my visit was the bartender who was wearing a red hat indoors and singing inappropriate lyrics above the music playing in the background. I spoke to the bartender to order my food. He took my order of curry chicken rotti, while walking away from me with out asking if I wanted anything other than my entree. After stepping away from me about 4 paces, he turns around and asks if I wanted a beverage for my meal. I ordered a sorrel. The sorrel came out first with 4 napkins. Still I'm fine. However, the ladies at the bar who were enjoying their brunch asked the same hatted bartender for a menu for deserts. He told the ladies " I don't need to bring you a menu, I can just tell you what we have. I THINK WE HAVE red velvet cake, carrot cake and some other stuff." He then walks away singing the inappropriate lyrics and never came back while I was there to give them the menu. I actually said to them Yeah he forgot about you and they both shook their heads in agreement. My food comes out quicker than expected which was surprising because the last time I was at the restaurant it was an hour for the same dish to be prepared. I got 2 plantains and a rotti that was half hard and inedible. There was less than 3 ounces of chicken in the rotti which was folded multiple times underneath to give the appearance of being filled. A total waste of $21. While I was eating my food, I overheard another waiter tell a to go order that "they should expect a long wait time for food to come out if they want quality food". This is a clear disconnect from the reality of the food service business. The ladies at the bar and I both heard this and we shook our heads again. The red hatted bartender still hasn't brought the ladies the menu. Once I was done with food or lack there of, I raised my had to signal the bartender that I was ready for my check. He ignored me. Then I called the greeter who i then asked if she could tell the bartender I was ready for my check. Still singing the inappropriate lyrics he prints out the check and stands behind the bar, reaching over the bar to hand me the check, expecting me to leave my seat to pay the bill. I got so furious at this that i actually paid the bill and walked out almost leaving my hat and phone at the table. I then overhear the inappropriate lyric singing hatted bartender saying " what was wrong with him? Did he want me to kiss him or something"? No what I want is proper service. This is one reason why West Indian Restaurants fail. They tend to hire servers who understand the food and culture but posses The I Don't Care Attitude. This is fine for restaurants in the Caribbean. The 'when I get to you I get to you' and 'you should be lucky I'm here to serve you', attitude is not appropriate for this market. This restaurant is progressively getting worse and I will never come back here ever again. I give places chances and now I'm just totally done. read more

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here a few times. The food admittedly hasn't been that good to me. If you've eaten at places like Suede and Footprints where there are similar menus, you will feel this place is subpar compared to them. I think they just lack the flavor I was looking for from Caribbean food. The drinks are pretty good, though. I love to support a black owned neighborhood business so I will continue to try to support them on occasion. Hoping the food gets better. One other thing to consider is that the bar staff here is pretty rude and inattentive. If you want good service, be sure to sit at a table. read more

I came here for lunch on a week day... the staff was very nice, I ordered the pasta with shrimp... the flavors of curry and parmesan cheese were anything short of amazing. Great service! The lady behind the bar was very polite. She constantly cane to check on us. I settled for a boneless curry chicken roti which was delicious and a house salad. I'm all about presentation and the salad was well prepared and served on the plate. The music was nice and they also have a tv. Would definitely return and would definitely recommend!! read more

This spot has customer service that is poor when seated outdoor. We ordered fries that never arrived and then had to wait about 30 minutes to ask for the check before getting it. This restaurant has A LOT of potential. The ambiance/vibes are super chill, my waitress was thoughtful and attentive.. (Customer service is excellent here) The music was great. Super duper chill spot. The reason why I mention the potential is because I am a foodie. I literally will travel miles and miles for great food.... With that being said: The food here wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I think the food was too salty and over seasoned. I ordered chicken and waffles and I didnt love it. The person I was with ordered jerk chicken and it looked / smelled great but it was far too salty. To wrap up my thoughts: I wouldn't travel for this food. Let me begin by saying that I was happy to see a trendy Caribbean restaurant close to my home. The music was good but a bit too loud. Food was amazing but still not enough to blind me from horrible service. I waited over 15 mins for someone to take our order, the restaurant was not packed at all. The problem was that the staff was to busy chatting and dancing at the bar. Finally when I called the waitress over she, gave a lame excuse about "waiting for us". As if she wasn't the same person that sat us down 15 over mins ago. During the night I accidentally Spilled my water, one of the male staff members was kind enough to clean up the spill but her never brought me another water or asked another staff member to do so. I live in the neighborhood and was happy to see a nice establishment for food and drinks however I have been gravely disappointed. Each visit left me unsatisfied and upset. The food is not consistently good and the drinks are horrible. The place is packed on the weekends so I assumed they were doing something right, however the service on the weekdays have not matched. An important factor of a successful business is consistency everyday the business is open. A word of advice is to hire experienced bartenders and not ones that need so much training on the job. Also please invest in a better quality house liquor. It seems as if the manager is going for a certain look hiring workers of a certain color which is ok but make sure they are actually good at what they're doing. Thought I'd try a local restaurant. Took a minute for them to take my order. Also, beware you can't have happy hour unless sitting at the bar. When I asked I was told this was customary... my response "where is the sign saying this?" Moving forward, I would also like to state that I now regret making such a decision and I will get into the reasons why. My sis got a 10% off coupon & a menu to this place while shopping at the mall. She shows it to me and says, "they have brunch and bottomless mimosas, let's try this spot!" So, we get there and they're practically empty. When I say practically empty, I mean they had a large party and several other groups of people seated. Not typical for a restaurant in nyc for brunch where is usually some sort of wait right? That was the second sign we avoided and proceed to walk to our seats. 20 minutes later we were greeted by our server. Very nice guy, super courteous even and he took our orders for both starters and entrees. 40 minutes after that after one mimosa each we got our starters. She ordered the jerk wings and I got the cornbread basket (really only two pieces of corn bread and butter) ...*Insert eye rolling emoji here* The jerk chicken was amazing and the cornbread? Ok. Right? But wait there is more! Waited another 40+ minutes for our entrees. At this point we realize they are understaffed. Three ppl serving in the whole place..3! I mentioned it wasn't packed but, service was extremely slowwww! We had to flag the waiter down for another round of "bottomless mimosas". This "restaurant" was hired to provide food for a Covid vaccination site for Nurses and volenteers who are working 12hr shifts. They are getting paid a pretty penny for this service. Breakfast they have delivers is corner store prepackaged muffins they most likely got from JETRO. The coffee is a joke. They should be ashamed of themselves. No protein, nothing hot, less then what you can get at a corner store. People we are working here and volunteering here, live here... Worth the wait!! Had take out at Fusion East today for the first time. The wait was longer than I expected seeing as though the restaurant wasn't crowded. However, I was very pleased with the food. I ordered both the Oxtail and Shrimp Curry Pasta and it was delicious. I was a little apprehensive about the curry as I've never heard that combination before. But the curry was just right. I don't know why is it named soul food. My boyfriend and I went there today and ordered 3 different dishes. 1. Chicken fusion pasta, the smallest piece of what was supposed to be grilled but really was burnt chicken on top of pasta (no flavor, but a burnt taste) 2. Southern fried chicken but they" ran out" so instead we had to get roasted chicken ( with Mac & cheese and cabbage) mac & cheese was disrespected I've never experienced eating something like that and called mac & cheese. Shrimp entrée ( rice and peas sweet plantain) Shrimps were supposed to be jumbo however they were small, exactly 5 pieces and they smelled weird and tasted awful and sweet plantain seemed to have been done earlier in the day and refried were burnt. Everything was unpleasant to eat, basically $60 down the drain. Definitely over priced meals and drinks. Kids hated it including my 1 year old (he spat it out) he usually eats all his food. I will never go back to this place, and would not recommend to anyone else. We were better of going to a fast food or our favorite Footprints! This is my third time at this restaurant, and because it is a neighborhood spot I decided to give it multiple tries before rating. My conclusion is come for Brunch, but save your dinner coins. I went with BAE 9/22/2018 around noon for Brunch. We were the only patrons and the waiter was very attentive. All the food was good even though the Jamaican Breakfast did not come with yams (a big no no in BAE's book) he still enjoyed it along with his Ackee Bruschetta . I had Jerk Wings for the appetizer, and the Shrimp and Grits for my entrée. Both were delicious! The last piece of advance for Fusion East, stop skimping on the Champagne in the Mimosa's. read more

When we finally started to eat the wings (which were decently seasoned), I couldn't help but wonder why the accompanying sauce wasn't used to season the wings...the sauce makes the wings soooo much better, throw it on those wings. Then serve another sauce for some extra zing! Just a thought, but I digress. Our entree came out 20 mins later and in fragments - I have to agree with the other reviews, food service is extremely slow. I ordered a shrimp salad, which was great. My boyfriend had the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and sweet plantains. Plantains were good, Mac and cheese ehhh - it's missing something but it's decent, and the fried chicken was delicious. The saddest part, the chicken portion was so tiny, a small drumstick and another small piece of dark meat. Where's the chicken breast?! He felt gipped but he couldn't deny the taste. We also had cornbread which could've used more flavor. It was too dense. I hope these Yelp reviews are really taken into consideration because I'm rooting for this restaurant in this up and coming area. I had a great experience at this beautiful restaurant. I took "uber pool" there two nights ago and even enjoyed the view riding through several neighborhoods in Brooklyn that i had never been to. I went to the restaurant for the first time last last with my friend whom I haven't seen in a year. She had wanted to go to a local diner and I suggested we try this new place called Fusion East. So we went, the restaurant had a neat appearance very modern as well. You can look into the place from outside. It was not crowded. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. The menu consisted of mostly Caribbean dishes, which was fine for me. I did feel that the menu was a bit limited in choices as it was only one sided, but it did have a variety of food choices. They also have a separate drink menu. The staff was friendly and willing to answer our questions about the food and drinks. They even helped us to decide what to order because everything on the menu sounded so delicious we couldn't decide on our own. After ordering, our food and drinks came pretty quickly. Food was well seasoned and full of flavor. I had the jerk salmon, my friend had chicken and waffles which she said was good and we'll seasoned. The drinks was great, not watered down or leaving me to guess if there was any liquor in my drink. I definitely tasted the alcohol in my drink. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out we had attended the restaurant on a kind of open mic night. A small group of women entertained us with some poetry and music. The entire night went pretty well overall. The restaurant has only been open for 4months now and of course there are going to be things that they can improve. Its about to be a year this place opened and I definitely am impressed! I've been here on a couple of occasions, and was pleased every visit. The drinks are not too strong so you can enjoy more and not be knocked out by ordering a second. They're tasty and delicious to keep you coming back for more. Now I have been both for Sunday brunches and dinner occasions. Every night they keep the place busy to attract diners and themed occasions for every night. Sunday brunches are awesome! If you don't already know, they have a 3-course option with bottomless mimosas of all sorts. Trust me and go with the sorrel mimosas. The first time I went I had the cornmeal porridge with Jamaican breakfast. The second time I visited I had the codfish fritters (green plantain atopped with codfish) IT WAS PHENOMENAL! NOTICE I got the Jamaican breakfast twice because it is literally to die for. If you don't know, I say go for it! An experience packed with flavor and that West Indian flare! When I visited for dinner, I had the oxtail pasta. That as well was delicious, the portion was small for the price of any oxtail dish (usually $20+) but nonetheless the dish was appetizing. I will always continue to come back to this restaurant it really has great customer service and very efficient. I've been here a few times, the first time I went the food was great that was about 2 years ago. But after today I don't think I'll be returning! The food is horrible, meats are under cooked and Mac and cheese is just noodles with not enough cheese! A suggestion to the owner, this place needs to be revamped, quick before he looses the customers! The place needs a bar rescue quick! The server, waiter or waitress should not be taking orders and making drinks, handling money and food and answering phones! Everyone has a function and they need to stay in their lanes! Came here on3/6/2021 at 8:15. The place was packed like there is no pandemic going on. They continue to allow people in not following the 35% occupancy. We sat here for an hour with nothing but our drinks no appetizers. It is apparently that they are just in it for the money and not for the safety of they people. There is no temperature check or contact tracing done. As I continue to see them allow people to come in, I became more disappointed and felt unsafe. The manager was not present so I felt they wasn't adhering to the protocols. This place is going down and I will not recommend this place during this time. It 9:50 and I told the waiter at 9:30 I want my food to go and I nothing yet. Don't waste your time here if you care about your well being! read more

WHAT A FU*KING MESS I spent $200 dollars on food to be delivered at 8:45pm 9:55 still nothing 10:05 nothing 10:15 nothing I drove there to get the order only to have the manager tell me the chef said he isn't making the order again because he made it twice and a Uber driver came to get my order already. MIND YOU as I'm talking to the manager another Uber driver comes in to pick up MY order. The manager tried showing me a receipt at 8:44pm saying the order was picked up.....how when I ordered at 8:44pmAfter a back n forth with the manager they make the food. I get home and they didn't make TWO OF MY ORDERs. NEVER AGAIN. And I HIGHLY DO NOT Recommend this establishment. Unprofessional, irresponsible, and a sad way to end my night.
