I did see that the other pictures had drummies but I had all flats but I was a happy camper since I'm totally a flats girls. The wings were all naked wings with crispy skin and really tender and juicy inside. I really appreciated the sides of pickled daikon and Serrano peppers to go along with the wings. The little potatoes that came with the wings were a nice surprise and were decent. I also got a side of macaroni which was just okay. One of four locations around the LA area, Furai Chicken - Garden Grove serves up a decent rendition of Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) for both dine-in and take-out. I found the chicken to be good relative to all fried chicken, but average/ok in relation to KFC around the SoCal area. Furai Chicken-Irvine appeared on the 15 essential Korean restaurants in Eater for Orange County, so made a note of it if I was ever nearby any of their locations. So after picking up some great kimchi from the close-by Seoul Do Soon Yi, we stopped by for carry-out around lunchtime. It's a fast food set-up, ordering/paying first and then taking it back to your table or carrying it out. The two page menu consisted of chicken, sandwiches, and sides. They do offer alcohol, both draft and bottled. It was empty when I got in, but the ringing of the doorbell let the front-of-house to come to the front. The cashier was helpful, answering my questions. The meal was for three, so got a Half&Half ($31.98) with Original Furai Chicken (comes with one sauce) and Soy Garlic. Added an order of beer-battered fries ($5.98)...which turned out to be a decent amount of really thick sidewinder fries. It took about 20 minutes for the made-to-order to be prepared, and it was packaged so the steam could be released. KFC has 10 pieces for a whole bone-in chicken, which I prefer since the large breast piece gets broken into two. The original is meant to be dipped in the accompanying sweet/spicy, which I really liked: not hot at all but still maintained that sweet/spicy flavor of a good Jang. The soy-garlic was lightly sauced, maybe trying to maintain that crunchiness. But it certainly didn't have the crazy crunch that really good KFC has, even when not eaten right away. It also came with small ramekins of peppers and pickled radish (which strangely were a bit mushy). With the fries, it was enough for the three of us for lunch, but for me, nothing really stood out to make me want to choose it vs the many other choices for Asian-inspired fried chicken in my area. read more

One thing I love about this restaurant is flavor. I can't name all the flavors on top of my head(take a look at the menu photos on their page) but they have a lot of sauce to choose from. I got the original and korean season chicken flavored wings ( tangy and spicy). The chicken was juicy and very savory and had the Korean traditional chicken flavor to it. (If you are Korean you know what I mean). One thing I HATE about this chicken place is that you don't really get what you paid for... Y'all... For a while now, I had to trek all the way to Irvine to get my crispy, juicy, steamy chicken fix--until the universe (and the internet) blessed me with a closer location in GG. How did I not know? 15 minutes away? I can't believe it took me this long to realize! There's a Furai Chicken in GG??? Thank the lords..... As always, the chicken is on another level. Fresh, crispy, and somehow still moist, bite after bite. If chicken had a PhD, Furai would be the professor. And don't even get me started on the sauces. I tried three, and was about to give up on finding "the one" that matched my mood until Miguel, the nicest manager ever, saved the day. I had a major craving for fried chicken. Specifically- sticky, garlicky- Korean fried chicken. We landed on ordering for pick up from Furai and we couldn't have made a worst choice. We ordered their Garlic Soy, whole chicken ($40) - the portion seemed small, came with a side of fries, 2 portions of pickled daikon and kimchi. We added an extra sweet and spicy sauce on the side. Which was the blessing in disguise because this chicken was DRRRRRRRY. My first bite was into a breast piece. Why? Not sure, purely seeking disappointment at this point, because there was no juice in this meat. The "soy garlic sauce" was non existent at this point so we NEEDED the extra sauce we added on to be able to get some flavor out of this chicken. I happened to be in OC and my friend recommended this place because of their garlic chicken. Garlic and chicken - of course I have to try it. Absolutely delicious. The garlic cuts through the grease of the crispy skin and into the moist/tender chicken. Like literally slide off the bone level. Apparently they smear garlic paste into the chicken themselves, they didn't do it for my visit, but that flavoring was still there. I also tried the soy garlic -- it's done so well. I have no words to describe that perfect balance between soy sauce and garlic. Also with all this sauce the chicken was still crispy af likeee that's talent right there. Had the biggest craving for Korean fried chicken, but sadly, Furai did not live up to my standards. We tried the light crispy chicken and the sweet and spicy chicken. We expected the light crispy to have a slightly thinner batter than their original crispy, but it was extremely dry and over cooked. The sweet and spicy sauce was also overly sweet. Perhaps if we had chosen different sauces, we would've had a more enjoyable experience. We did like the thick-cut potato wedges that came with each chicken dish. I really liked this place. Super clean restaurant, both bar and tables to sit at, take-out packaged well, and very friendly employees. I called in my order ahead of time and just had a few minutes to wait when I got there. I got there pretty soon after they opened and they had about 10 take-out orders being prepared. Super busy for take-out with nobody eating inside. The beer batter fries here are so good. For $3.50 you get a huge container full that could easily be shared but you're not going to want to. You'll want to eat all of these yourself. The pasta salad was interesting. Had different stuff in it such as ham and maybe mung bean sprouts. Wife and I both liked it. We both had the volcano chicken sandwich medium spicy. I'm guessing it has a dry rub because it was like playing the lottery when you took a bite. Sometimes it was mild, other times really spicy. The sweet sauce was like a glaze and balanced it out. Super crunchy batter but since it's white meat it was really dried out to the point it was like leather. I didn't care since I don't mind over fried chicken but it bothered my wife a bit. Still, I enjoyed every bite and it wasn't burnt. Sandwich came with a side of coleslaw which was a nice surprise. Not sure if you're meant to put it on the sandwich or not but I just ate it by itself. They also include a generous portion of pickled daikon and jalapenos. One hour before closing: "We don't have sandwiches right now" Ordered us a full chicken and macaroni salad with ham instead. Chicken was great, but the macaroni salad came out without the ham - completely bland and flavorless without it, and was charged the same price. Asked about the lack of ham in the macaroni salad: "We don't have ham right now" No apologies, nothing done to make it right. They could have said something before I ordered.
