I was very happy to find an establishment who understood what I meant by spicy enough so I can't feel my mouth. I got the vegan spicy tofu stew, which met the mark. Although I suspect the options here would greatly favor the carnivores. Accompaniments of various pickled veggies were appreciated. The food court at H mart is definitely worth a visit.

Wow what a great experience! The staff starts to set your table as you're walking up to the door!…read moreTalk about efficient use of time. Sunday early dinner around 430pm. Ordered Combo C- with pork & Kim chee stew as our stew choice. Banchan of: Kimchee (very good, not too spicey, garlicky full of umami), bread & butter type pickle slices, cabbage & red pickled beet combo, mustard green(?), and pickled white radish/daikon. Interesting unexpected banchan. Staff sets up and cooks/cuts the meat for you. Much like Mo Rak Do up the street does. Combo C has a variety of pork pieces. Excited to try pork jowl for the first time. Ample portions. All fresh with the added bonus of aging sticker info for the pork belly. All the meats were VERY good. The belly had a nice distribution of fat to meat ratio. The jowl had high fat content with a slightly firmer bite to it. Great choice. We selected the pork & kimchee stew. Also very good. A side thinly sliced green onion salad also served. The dipping ingredients: course sea salt, wasabi, sweetened shoyu with garlic/green onion bits, & a samjang mixture. All very tasty. Course salt is a nice upgrade. Beautifully presented. Plenty of staff to attend to your table. Menu also has add'l meats to add for a larger group (table of 6 to our right). Honestly I was glad it was my female cousin & I. Too much competition to grab our meat portions if the 2 piglets had to share. A definite return in the near future. Yes, these aren't all you can eat prices. Because it's above AYCE quality meats. This place is a winner all around for service, food quality, adequate venting, parking isn't bad (strip mall). One thing noticed. I never did get my one bowl of rice. Gotta have meat & rice right? Well...miss piggy didn't miss it.

I went with their "Combo B", which came with three types of pork for $69. They grill the meats for you and the meat was nicely crusted with a crispy exterior and juicy interior. It's perfect. What brings the experience to another level is their pickled vegetables, kimchi, and scallion salad, which brings acidity to balance out the fatty pork. Then you also have some nice seasonings (soybean paste, wasabi, salt, and seasoned soy) to give some other flavor variations to the meat. We asked for a side of rice, which was perfectly steamed. This was a great meal that was worth the cost.

Love soup! If you do too, this is the place for you!…read more Friend and I came Sunday night. It was busy. Busier than I expected and service was still great. It's quite lively. The ladies working here are kind and on top of things. My friend and I got the army stew to split. It was a TON of food. It was quite deceptive when it came out. When your order is brought out, they place a table top burner in your table first. Then the banchans come out. Banchans: - cucumbers: crisp and refreshing, mild spice - radish: very crunchy - kimchi: very tasty here - fish cakes: my fav, they are a bit sweeter here Then the main cauldron of soup is brought out. What's in it: - hot dogs/sausage: cut up and I think it's kielbasa - spam - meat chunks - oval rice cakes - tofu - a square of dried ramen noodles with American cheese - some veg like onion, green onion - tasty broth!! - bowl of rice too Let this cauldron boil up over the table top burner then dig in! This hit all the right spots, especially as the temperature is starting to cool down. There was so much food. My friend and I ate to our fill and had enough to each bring home leftovers.

The servers are aunties that won't check on you after every bite but will come over the second you raise your hand. I took my mom for lunch and we dug in a little too quick - photos were snapped after we've made a small dent on the food. We got the Seolleongtang and soondae platter which was plenty to share between two people. We ended up taking half of the soondae platter home and enjoying it for breakfast the day after. For those not familiar with Seolleongtang, the soup comes out very basic. You're given a bucket of scallions, a little pot of salt, and shaker of ground pepper to season the broth as you please. I recommend adding a few spoonfuls of the radish kimchi sauce. Speaking of the banchan, Jong Ro prepares some of the freshest and most flavorful banchans on the street. I wish they offered a menu option that was just a bowl of rice and bottomless banchan. The soondae was perfectly springy, paired with a salted shrimp sauce and flavored salt dip. The platter also came with boiled (or steamed?) pork belly, pig ear, and other pork innards that were nicely cooked. I love restaurants like this because they are simply good at what they do. Nothing is over-the-top. There is always a constant stream of customers. The times I've gone have been during your typical slow hours and the place was always 60% full. I imagine the house is full during dinner time or on weekends and rightfully so. Definitely stop by if you're looking for a heartwarming and belly filling comfort meal.

I got the combo A which included your choice of tteobeokki along with the tempura set and a drink. This was delicious, I got it with their signature giant tteobeokki. They were massive but super chewy, soft, and went so well with the sauce. The sauce was amazing, it was so decadent, rich and fatty. The tempura also went great with the sauce, both the dumpling and the roll tempura has vermicelli filling which I found interesting and delicious.

When I received my food 45 minutes later, it was the complete wrong order. I received a rose tteokbokki with ssal tteok. I mentioned this to the kind lady behind the counter and she remade my food. However, when I got the freshly made dish, it was still the wrong order. She remade the dish with garaetteok but it was still rose, and not the grandma style. As it was approaching a whole hour since ordering, I just accepted the food, even though I tried to explain to her that what I received was the wrong order. She told me that what I got was the grandma tteokbokki, which the dish was not since it was creamy and had sausage and bacon. I would have asked for another remake, but she had posted a sign that said the restaurant closes at 1:30pm, and it was shortly after that time. I was hoping to have a good time here since the reviews are great, but this experience makes me apprehensive to give the place a try again.
