I was in the area for an event and my companions were looking for something specific to eat. This was close by, had options other than just soup or noodles and they were agreeable with the price. It is located in the food court of a Korean grocery store (diamond in the rough actually). We were there mid-afternoon and parking was not too bad. Inside the grocery store food court is not fancy as say HMart, but I also noticed that all the restaurants, as with Han Kook Kwan, are run by Korean ajumma and ajeossi. When I saw that, I knew the food would be yummy. I ordered a Chicken Plate. Once all our orders were taken, I saw the man and woman behind the counter furiously cooking our food. Wait was a reasonable amount of time and I was pleasantly surprised at how much food was on the plate, a salad, and it had two banchan (cabbage kimchi and maybe a root veg kimchi). Both were delicious and also just the right amount of spicy. We also had kimbap to share, which was quite yummy! I was worried it would be sad like grocery store kimbap, but it was filing and tasty. My friends got beef bulgogi plates and a japchae plate, also with the same banchan. Everyone seemed happy with their dishes. The food would work to share for two not very hungry women, who want to room for boba or some pastry in the bakery next door. I was starving and even I had leftovers enough for one more meal. While the foodcourt is visually dodgy, the food tasted like someone's mum made it for me. And not complaining that it's reasonably priced, and also that it is attached to a grocery store making for a quick duck in for Korean goodies. Highly recommend for a simple meal! Hank Kook Kwan is located in the Korean Plaza in Korean town in Orange County, CA serving up korean stone bowl food and much more. After browsing through the Korean Plaza we make our way to the food court and notice all the pictures and advertisements of the food and decided to give it a try. We went ahead and ordered the beef bulgogi bibimbap, and seafood Korean pancake. The prices are quite steep here and especially for a food court setting so be prepared to cough up some money. After visualizing the cook through the restaurant I watch her make my meal. I notice she is running around the kitchen grabbing items from the fridge and putting them back in with no cover while cutting things. In my head I think wow so unsanitary coming from a food service background. I go ahead and take my seat and in about 10 minutes the food was ready. The cashier just calls out the food order and I pick it up. The bibimbap was sizzling than ever in the black stone bowl. It had a fried egg, radishes, beansprouts, spinach, mushrooms, and some pickled veggies below and a small amount of beef and a bed of white rice. I go ahead and mix it all up and incorparate all the ingredients together while letting it cook more. Quick time first bit and the taste was bland and not exciting. When i think about why its because it was just rice with some veggies and a small amount of meat. There was a bottle of gochujang sauce he provided as well but i didnt even want to touch that bottle because on the tip it had gunk from the previous uses and that right there just killed my vibe. After seeing that bottle it completley ruined my appetite and I wasnt hungry anymore just with all the thoughts going through my head. Everyone knows in the food service world to clean the bottle and top caps after each use with a hot watery rag! The seafood pancake wasnt special anyways and wasnt even crispy on the bottom. There was no color to it and char but just a bunch of squid and shrimp with no veggies. Meh, I expierenced better Korean food than this place with high prices and mediocre but not extravagant food I think ill find another place. If maybe they just tighten up there sanitaton and clean as they go and put a bit more love in there food I might be back. read more

Beef Tofu Soup - 4/5 - Simple tofu soup with soft tofu and beef. Not a lot of meat though. There were only 3 small pieces in my soup. The flavor was good. Comparatively, the tofu soup from the other korean place 1 stall over to the left (Yetnal Soondae) wasn't as flavorful. However, their tofu soup had a lot more ingredients and vegetables in the bowl. Shrimp Fried Rice - 3/5 - Okay flavor. The shrimps are tiny and the dish was a bit smelly. Maybe the kimchi fried rice would have been better. Dumpling - 3/5 - Standard steamed dumpling. Not a lot of flavor. Taste better if you put them in the tofu soup. We wanted to try the Galbi, but they were out. I may get that next time and see if it's good. read more

We went to Arirang today and because we wanted to buy some perishables, we decided to just eat at the food court. There were 3 stalls which offered meals and this one, Korea House, appealed to me the most. They had 4 types of dolsot bibimbap available, I ordered #4 ($7.99) which had some beef in it besides the vegetables. Lil guy got the BBQ chicken which was #14 ($7.99). We decided to share the items just in case. The food arrived -- the BBQ chicken arrived on a hotplate along with 3 types of banchan, soup and a bowl of rice. Bibimbap arrived with gujujang already in the bowl. I didn't mind, but the rice for the bibimbap was too wet so the entire dish was slightly soggy. It did leave a thin layer of the crunchy rice at the end which is my favorite. Lil guy's BBQ chicken was slightly too sweet for me, but he seemed to enjoy it. Anyways, this restaurant is food court style so it's self service. As for the food, we got the seafood pancake ($12) and the beef bulgogi bibimbap ($9). Everything is made to order. The seafood pancake was okay. It only had shrimp and oysters (likely canned). The bibimbap was colorful and delicious. The bibimbap came with a side of kimchi and 2 other pickled/ferment vegetables. The prices are cheap for Korean food in Cali. You definitely get what you paid for. I usually end up eating here when I go to Arirang for some grocery shopping & I've not been disappointed yet. I've tried several different dishes, the last being the Kalbi. How I don't see very many overweight Koreans when all the dishes comes with unlimited sides amazes me. They could amount to a meal in itself. Anyway, the Kalbi turned out great. Not overcooked or under done. Just right. The potato slices (side) tends to be my favorite along with the radish side. I don't like the Kim chi as it's just not very spicy. And if it's not spicy, to me, it's just soggy cabbage. There' a small bowl of soup that's served with however I don't much care for it. There's a foreign salty taste that just doesn't agree with my taste buds. I know other people like it so to each their own. I do not understand how anyone can give this place anything other than 5 stars! This wonderful establishment has been around since 2001 (please excuse me if I got it wrong) and is tucked in the corner of the AR supermarket. I cannot believe I've been going to this market for so long and never knew this place existed until this year. How I would describe the food at this place is if I had a Korean grandmother this is what I imagine her food is like, it feels like home. So far everything I've tried has been delicious! Her beef short ribs soup makes my soul happy. I love soup in general but this one is so good I order it every single time I come here. Also, I've tried the varieties of her stone bibimbab and they are all so good regardless if I eat there or to-go it home. Please keep in mind it is just her working there so sometimes it might take a little longer to get your order but regardless I will support her and highly recommend her food to anyone! What I got: Bibimbap ($8): comes in a stone pot with a variety of different vegetables and topped off with a fried egg. You are suppose to break the egg and then the yolk should be runny so you could mix it, but the yolk wasn't runny! They also give you a bottle of this hot pepper paste that you can use to give your bibimbap some kick. Mix everything really well so you could enjoy everything in one bite. It also came with 3 side dishes which were all pretty good and this hot beansprout soup thing which didn't have much flavor to it. Service: No one was there when I got there, but a lady quickly rushed over when she saw me. She seemed all over the place. I've eaten here a lot and I've always enjoyed everything I've tried. Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap: Totally love. Tasty, well-seasoned, filling, comforting. The veggies in the dish varies from time to time, which I appreciate for some variety. Comes with some banchan and a small soup. Tteokbokki (Spicy Ricecake): Totally love. It's spicy (but not numbingly spicy and I have low to medium spice tolerance) but has actual flavor!!! At other restaurants, the dish can be quite bland and all you taste is rice cake and spicyness / red pepper. The portion is smaller than other places but it's also cheaper. Japchae (Stir Fried Clear Noodle): Standard. Similar to HMart's japchae. Service is fine. The lady can be brusque at times and friendly at other times. They take to go orders over the phone. This place happens to be nested inside the AR (Arirang) Supermarket food court on Garden Grove Blvd. The story is that the kind lady who makes the food here is famous for a large restaurant she used to have and is known for her authentic bibimbap. I believe that she does the food court stand now because it's a lot less energy-intensive since she is older now. But older doesn't mean that the food changed! My friends tell me the food is exactly the same as she made it at her restaurant, but without a long line now. I recommend the hot stone bibimbap for first-timers! It is made by having the stone bowl sit blistering hot for a while and then throwing in the rice, beef, and other veggies. Unlike nearby Kaju Tofu and other places, this is the only place I've found in the area that does the real bibimbap, other places only cook it in a pan and then put it in the stone bowl which isn't hot. Once you try that, order kimbap rolls and her rice omelette. She does the fried rice very good as well!!! If you've had all of those already, try the spicy pork ramyun, very tasty. This is an easy lunch that's delicious, affordable, and fast! i usually go here when i end up not knowing where to eat and usually i would order the bbq chicken because it's simple and nothing can go wrong. And i usually order it to go so i can eat it at home and watch tv. I think they don't give you the soup when you take it to go which is kinda weird because they'll give you soup when you eat it there...but whatever anyway you get the chicken in a foil wrap togo box and then a box of rice and then a box for your kimchi and the kimchi cucumbers which i love. All for 8 dollars and something cents... They have this sign that says "Special 3 for 19.99" and the rest were in Korean so i don't know what that was....i was sitting there waiting for my food and matching the korean letters on that menu to the other menu. Don't waste your time or money. You'll notice the "cook" cutting ingredients into whatever you ordered. It's like watching instant food being made before you. This is NOT Korean food. It's horrible. Don't like to leave a negative review but this place is awful and overpriced for the quality they serve. You definitely get what you're not paying for. Honestly... this isn't some Michelin star restaurant. It's in a food court. With that said, I'll continue. I always come here with my grandma when I'm in town. It's just easy, cheap, and convenient to take her shopping at Arirang market afterwards. My grandma absolutely loves the dolsot bibimbap (stone pot bibimbap). And she never can finish so she packs the rest and takes it for dinner. I always try to get something different, and it's always pretty good.
