We found this place on Yelp, and since I really miss living by the beach, we had to give it a try. It's conveniently located right on the beach, and the walk from where we parked wasn't bad at all. We were seated on the outdoor patio, and I loved the views of the beach and the waves. I ordered a Funky Pelican cocktail, and it was delicious. For my meal, I ordered the fish and chips, which I dearly miss from growing up on Cape Cod. The fish was light, flaky, and perfectly cooked. The batter was crisp and not overly thick. I feel like a lot of places down South use too much batter, which takes away from the fish, but they struck a great balance here. They also served a generous portion of fries. With inflation these days, it seems like many restaurants have started cutting back on portions, so that was a nice surprise. The bathrooms were clean as well. Let me start by saying - they don't have guest WiFi'!! The server was good and the fried food was good. Can't say much about the non fried food as some of my party said theirs lacked flavor. This place was great. The patio area outside was nice, I sat at the bar and the young gentleman bartender was super friendly and great at his job. The view is great. The other guests were super friendly and I enjoyed just sitting out here munching and chatting for awhile. The food was great, the young man recommended the mojo pork fries when I asked his opinion for something tasty and FAST (my blood sugar had crashed HARD from going too long without eating) and just like he said, this came out super quick and hit all the right notes. He also recommended getting the sauces on the side to customize accordingly which was a great call because while the reddish sauce was good, the green sauce was fantastic. *AVOID* Last summer we were in the area and had 3 different recommendations from locals for the best place to grab a bite and feel the good vibes of the boardwalk. Unfortunately we chose the Funk Pelican on our last day. Mistake! The food was bland and underwhelming. The service was way below average. We didn't bother speaking to the management as we witnesses a rude and condescending conversation with another table when they expressed concerns about the cold food, service and a parking issue or something. It is really sad that a place with such a unique opportunity can't deliver on something as easy as food and service. The location and views are great but not great enough to overcome being a total waste of money and time. This was a Zero Star stop for us. read more

Location, its on a main beach street next to a pier. I pulled up and found parking in front. I saw signs for nearby lots and street parking as an option as well. I went in and saw the hostess. She stated it was self seated so I parked myself outside near the bar. First things first, gorgeous view of the water and pier. It was a beautiful Friday. Server came over promptly. We decided to go to Funky Pelican this morning for breakfast. We got our table on the patio with the perfect view of ocean. Our server greeted us and took our drink order. I have water with lemon while my husband ordered coffee. When she brought us our drinks she took our food order. I ordered the Breakfast Sammy with scrambled egg, Swiss cheese, sausage on wheat toast and home fries. My husband ordered the Hash & Eggs, eggs over easy, home fries and wheat toast. While we were waiting on our food we scored high on the view with several dolphins going by! Our food was very good, my sandwich was very tasty and the home fries were delicious very crispy with a great flavor. We went here today while walking the strip. Location and views are good. Service was good. Food is mediocre. I had the dolphin sandwich. There was minimal slaw and dressing on it. There was a thin fillet that was put on the sandwich and cut in half. Leaving excess bread. The gator bites were just sad. Very small bites and the portion was for a child not an appetizer. Apart from the delay of having our order taken since no server was assigned our table at first, our experience was great at the Funky Pelican where we enjoyed delicious eats with the Atlantic Ocean and Flagler Beach as our backdrop. For my money, the twisted shrimp is grand and a huge portion, which you could either share with one to three people or just have for your meal. The garlic parmesan cream sauce was absolutely magical and creamy. That went well with fried-to-perfection shrimp that were well-sized and crispy. Due to the twisted shrimp, I could have gone without the Grilled Cheddar with bacon and a side of cheddar grits. However, I didn't anticipate the portion size of the latter, so I opted to devour the former, which both were incredibly tasty. I took The shrimp I didn't eat for leftovers and reheated it in the toaster oven for dinner the next day, which turned out just as tasty as when I initially received the order from the kitchen. The grilled cheddar was delicious on thick-cut bread with beautiful strips of bacon. The cheddar grits were incredibly satisfying as I didn't feel like ordering fries, which originally came with the meal, but I substituted them. I love the hot sauce caddie, where I sampled multiple bottles of hot sauces with my cheddar grits. It was magical--very magical. You have to ask for the hot sauce, which then you will realize they give you options. As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. The cool coral reef-colored dining area was comfortable and relaxing as we ate our meal. The server, who ultimately served us after we waited a few minutes, was prompt and had our drinks and meals over fast. And if you want a good cocktail, you can't go wrong with the bourbon-forward Millions of Peaches, which also contains peach puree, pineapple juice, lime, and peach schnapps. read more

The menu had plenty of breakfast and lunch items. I was trying to be healthy so I ordered the Carribean Salad. It had kale and spinach leaves, along with grilled chicken. The Funky Pelican! You can't miss it. It's located right on Flagler's "main st" area, near the pier. It's right in the center of the action. It also says "Flagler Beach" in huge letters on the roof. We got takeout and it was a little hard to find parking. It was a week day yet the area was busy. All of the street parking was taken up so I found parking on a side street and walked over. The food was ready promptly and the staff was very friendly. Now to the important part, the food. Delicious! I had this divine Cajun fish sandwich. I was feeling like a fish sandwich to go along with the beachy vibes. It smelled amazing and tasted amazing too. I added some tarter sauce and that put it over the top. Yum! I always give restaurants three chances. When I first had moved to Flagler Beach I had tried it out and got completely ignored by the wait staff. I ended up waiting so long that I walked out. I literally didn't even get to order anything, was just given a menu then ignored. The second time again, I was ignored by wait staff there was also no host in sight, so I basically sat myself at a high top - all the servers were on their phones when I was looking around. It took so long for them to even take my order for just an appetizer . I'm not sure why everyone hypes this place up - I get that it's the only restaurant on the actual ocean I suppose but just be prepared for horrible service. I would never recommend this place & tell everyone about my experience who even mentions this place. read more
