Second time here and we really enjoyed it. The food is fresh, the outdoor seating offers a nice view of the ocean, service was friendly and quick. My lobster ravioli was really good and very filling. The fish was a huge portion and my son thoroughly enjoyed it. Poke and tacos were smaller portions and perfect if you aren't ravenously hungry. My husband really loved the fish bites, but I thought they were just ok. Conch fritters also not my thing, something about the texture generally speaking, but everyone else in the party enjoyed them. Well the daughter came home for Labor Day and we had been looking forward to taking her to breakaways. It's always a great ride up there as we go through the loop but as always the food was fantastic. Parking could have been better this time I was directly across the street but even if you have to park a little bit of ways it's well worth it. Our server Jack was fantastic right on time not hovering which made for great service. I had the fish and chips Karen had the poke bowl as always and Paige got the blackened fish tacos. It really sucks actually, the outdoor ambiance is nice. Nice breeze from the ocean hence the name. Sweet tea taste not homemade , which is fine but it had a "out of a bottle" taste. Delicious food! Out of ALL the restaurants at Flagler Beach, this place takes first place for sure. All the food here has so much flavor. It's the first restaurant I go to whenever I fly down to visit, I mean it when I say that there's no place in Chicago that compares to Break Awayz! Great casual dining with starters of flatbreads, salads, soups, and several sushi grade tuna preparations, conch, chips and salsa, fish, breads, hummus, wings, nachos, and calamari to name a few. They also have burgers and a nice selection of mains and sides. I chose the Tuna Tataki and Bread and Oil from their starter menu. The tuna was fresh and lightly seared. As their description reads: sushi grade ahi tuna seared rare and sliced, topped with ponzu, sesame seeds, green onion, and soy glaze and served with Asian slaw. It was as delicious and fresh as it sounds! The side of wasabi was curiously strong and fresher tasting than your average sushi bar fare. The bread and oil was seasoned toast points with an olive oil dip which included Parmesan, honey, balsamic, and herbs. My husband thought the honey made it too sweet - I loved it! The bread and oil was a perfect pair for my spicy Bloody Mary. I don't drink beer, but looks like they have a huge selection! We sat outside for the ocean view and breeze. Nice ambiance, great staff, and service is fairly quick. Can't wait to return to try more of their varied offerings! read more

This was our first time here. Service was great. The seating outside had nice views and was comfortable. We started with the wonton tuna happy hour portion which was really good. The drinks were also good. We also split the fish and chips. Everything was tasting great until it wasn't and i wasn't sure what it was until i realized the fish wasn't cooked all the way through. We let our server know and she asked if we wanted anything else. At this point we were ready to go. The food was really good until it just wasn't. I was a bit shocked when they came back and took off $8 worth of drinks instead of the dish that was $21. The dish was the issue, not the drinks. I would like to come back but I'm not sure if we will. read more

Overall, it's time to break away form the habit of going here: 1) Most recent visit: We ordered three burgers at our table: 67% of the burgers had major issues. First, most noticeably, one burger patty was 1/2 the size of the other two. Literally 1/2 the size in diameter and thickness. Both cost $15, but only one looked like a kids meal burger. Sadly enough, it did not end there - that burger was ordered to me medium and it arrived a few hours past well done. Dry as the Sahara. A second burger arrived just above medium rare, pink and bloody inside, and was ordered to be well done. How do you get a temperature that wrong? Does the chief know you can lightly just press on the burger patty and feel it's doneness? Does he / she know black on the outside not only typically indicates overly well done, but the need to trash that patty and to start over with a new one? Hockey pucks belong in the NHL - lets keep it that way. 2) 2024 I came here and the chips tasted way, way, way off. The oil in the fryer must not have been changed for a very very very long time, either due to laziness or as a desperate cost saving act. The food - meaning anything not cooked in the fryer with last months oil - was at best okay and not memorable. Nothing to write home about - which sums up all of my experiences at Breakaways prior to this visit as well (I've been 4 times, with 3 of those visits after the original owners sold it). 3) Breakaways is coded in the Visa network as a store. If you use a credit card with dinning out cash back rewards, you will NOT get them here. BUT don't worry - they will be sure to charge you an "admin fee" since you used your credit card. To some, this final point may seem too little to complain about - but to me it exemplifies the notion that whomever is running this place has NO clue what they are doing from the ground up. From how to train staff to notice a burger is either medium rare or well done to the accounting side of things and setting up the place with Visa correctly. Flagler Beach has plenty of eateries, and it is time to break away from going here anymore. Just 86 the whole place. read more

We just love this place!!! From the servers to the food and drinks... everything is really on point. My favorite is the homemade potato chips with the beer queso on the side. Don't laugh, sounds like whatever, but please try then thank me. Haha The frozen pina colada was so good, just perfect. We like to sit outside in the evening. Daytime always inside, it's small inside but very cozy. There are tvs to watch some sport if you wish. Girls are always very sweet and attentive. This place is amazing. We have been here numerous times and am always impressed with their service, quality of food and great beer selection. I have traveled all over the world and especially across the USA. I have never found a bar with such a huge selection of craft beers. We absolutely love the bartender Walt. He is a craft cocktail genius and has lots of stories to tell. Just this week he created four new and unique drinks for us. I loved the basil, jalapeño margarita he created. My wife had a basil, cucumber gin drink that was very refreshing. For dinner tonight I had a burger and my wife had the trigger fish with wasabi Panko batter. Both dinners were delicious. We were looking for a place to grab a drink near the water that wasn't too packed and that had outdoor seating. We passed by Break Awayz and it looked like it fit the bill! They had several outdoor tables spaced apart. We went inside to order and all the staff were wearing masks. Everyone we encountered was friendly. I had a Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat which was a tasty beer. I also tried one of their signature cocktails with basil, ginger, and cucumber which was nice and refreshing. They do a good job mixing drinks. A server checked on us a couple of times. The building is across the street from the water, but you can still get a nice look at it from the outside tables. Overall, it's a nice place to grab a drink. I didn't try food during this visit, but the meals that were being served to others looked yummy, so I'll definitely have to try it on a future visit! read more

Totally looks like a dive. Totally isn't. Lots of food options to make everyone happy. Food is presented well also. Servers are great. Pictured is the tuna appetizer but the Flagler bites (which is grilled fish bites) were yummy. Bread and oil was good but warning- it's sweet. Not your normal bread and oil. I was so excited to try this spot because of the appetizers and the appetizers did not disappoint. This night was a bit chilly and windy which is weird for thud time of year. The waitress was kind enough to move us when a table became available near the fire pit which was a amazing. Upon arrival we did have about a 20min wait which we didn't mind. Sometimes a hole in the wall will blow you away and that exactly what happened here. Located across the street from the beach there's great seating outside. We started with the conch fritters and they were perfect. I had the Ahi Tuna bowl and it's the best I've ever had and I've paid triple what I paid here. The Mrs had the flatbread and said it's the best she ever had. Our friends loved their shrimp tacos so they were four for four. Plus the chocolate mousse for dessert was light and tasty. Wow, what a find nestled just off of the ocean front in between an awesome potter's wheel joint (Down to Earth, read my review once I post it and go see Heather!) and Island Flava. You'll miss it if you're driving too fast, so like bananas, keep your eyes peeled. It was a travesty that we weren't there for sushi night which I believe is Wednesdays, but don't trust me on that and call to verify. They have an extensive selection of beer, but if you like dark and aromatic, go for the oatmeal stout. I only went in for a drink (or 2 ok or 3), but anytime I see poke nachos, I'm all in! Glad I did because they were some of the best I've ever had. They were reminiscent of the poke nachos my neighbor in Hawaii made.... freshly caught tuna marinated in sweet shoyu off set by the salty of the seaweed salad. The wonton chips are crispy and light and there's some sort of creamy sauce, similar to the ever popular yum yum sauce served at hibachi. And furikake! How I miss furikake! (For those of you unaware, Furikake is a Japanese seasoning comprised mostly of black and white sesame seeds and dried seaweed). It's a perfect combo of textures and flavors all wrapped up on a little triangle of delish The joint itself is super small but they have outdoor seating and the bathrooms are clean.
