Funky Murphy's knows how to put it down. They offer great deals on various menu items throughout the week, especially on Monday nights. Funky Murphy's is as much of a bar as it is a grille because the quality of their food is top notch, paired with a satisfying selection of libations. The staff are kind, friendly and quick to serve. They're also happy to provide recommendations and specialities. I'd recommend this spot to anyone and plan to return again! read more

Food and drink is great however the waitstaff is always Miserable, slow, and distracted by their personal agenda read more

Whats worse than having to make an impromptu venue choice for a crowd? Regretting that decision. The mixed drinks were decent; the bartender really erred on the side of quantity over quality. The hummus plate was extremely confusing and ill conceived--ever heard of this thing called GARLIC? the sandwich was basically drive through quality and the best part of the whole meal was the ketchup and half-sour pickle. Who ever wrote the menu should get an academy award for best actor. Dear Funky Muprhy's: cancel that CISCO order and go grocery shopping for Christ's sake. they are called vegetables. On a pleasant side note--they have keno and the marble bar+flat screens are impressive. read more

I went here yesterday for drinks and appetizers. We had nachos, a humas platter, calamari and a seafood dish. The Nachos were great. However, that's where the great ends. The seafood plate had a long hair in it. The calamari was very over cooked and the humas in The humas platter smelled and tasted spoiled. When we brought up the bad humas to the waiter he said the manager would come over. So we waited and waited and waited... Finally we got tired and asked for the check and paid for everything. We will never return here and suggest you do the same. read more

Food and service was absolutely terrible. Breakfast buffet has been sitting out all day. Service is absolutely terrible. I'm not sure if my server is mute or just extremely rude but didn't speak. Asked to speak to a manager and haven't heard a thing. Employees sitting on their phones focusing on snap chat and instagram instead of the customers. 0 stars. And you couldn't pay me to come back. read more

I can't give this bar an accurate review as two of my friends were not let into bar. My friends from out of state tried to go to this bar and we were not allowed in because they were under 25 from out of state. It's 2018 you should at least scan the ID, instead they rely on the bouncer to recognize a fake ID without a book to show what's real and what's not. Instead of denying potential customers you should find a way to verifying the people who want to spend their money here. read more

Honestly I'm really upset. I had my friends visit from NYC because I always liked this place and because they didn't have their PASSPORT on them they wouldn't let them in. Like who brings their passport around with them? If you don't think they're real then scan their IDs. Thought I liked this place but clearly they only care about whats convenient. Call the cops if you think the ID is fake. read more

All I remember from my last visit here was how bad the service was. My friend is a beer person and would like an explanation of what some of the drafts were and the waitress had no idea. She stumbled her way through and couldn't offer anything. Strike #1. On to the mixed drinks, we asked for some recommendations for drinks off the menu for a friend's birthday (since they have a full bar), and all she could offer were the few listed on the menu. Strike #2. My friend ordered a dessert to share. There were 4 of us, she brought out the dessert with only 2 spoons. Not to mention she came back when we were only half way through the chocolate cake to ask if we were all set so she could clear it out. What? Strike #3. There were #4, 5 and 6 and so on.. but you get the idea. The drinks and foods were actually ok. read more

I have been to Funky's many times, one because I know the servers so to all the people complaining about the service you should know that these people are worked to the bone. They are always understaffed, always, because well the owner kind of sucks and even though he comes off as a nice guy he under staffs to save money. On top of that they never get to have vacations, they are not allowed any holidays off even if the are religious, they have to ask for a day off a month in advance, oh and there are cameras everywhere to watch them so they always feel like they are under the knife. You know those substitutes you want in your meal? You can't get them because the server can't give it to you, you can't get them because the owner doesn't allow it, and the know it. You try to sub something out you are going to get fired its just cut throat in there. When I go my service is good because they are my friends but also because I know how busy they are, how understaffed they are, and know that there are only 2-3 girls for the whole restaurant. For those complaining about sitting at the tables and not getting service- they have a policy. If you order from the bar they come ask you if you would like anything from the menu, if you say no the policy is that you do not wait on them. Your money and tips are going to the bar tenders so the servers are supposed to work on the people who are eating. If you say no i don't want food, chances are they aren't going to come back to you because they are not supposed to. In terms of food i think it's okay- the fish and chips is delicious, the calm chowder makes my stomach hurt, and their wings are not wings- drumsticks are not wings so don't false advertise. I like the prime rib and their specials are usually alright but it's nothing amazing. Oh and, if you wear any jewelry that is too big and religious or certain colors or styles you cant go in- they have a dress code for customers to get rid of gangs Also they had a great bar tender and server that they people loved- friendly people, they just recently let them go without explanations- which is most likely due becuase they asked for days off. If you treat your staff miserably and work them like dogs they will act like it and the reviews obviously show for it. read more

Had a dinner with my sister-in-law a few weeks ago. Great place on a warm, summer day. They open up the doors and bays and its a great atmosphere. I had a tuna melt with fries, along with 2 Captain and Cokes; she had a chicken sandwich of some sort, along with a few beers. Very good food. Service was on the slower side, but not the slowest on Shrewsbury Street. It also about 5pm on a Thursday, so it is a busy time and she was very friendly, and did check on us. Bathrooms were clean as well. Highly recommend it. read more

Frequented this place often for the Great pulled pork & nachos before i finally got tired of the rude/neglectful/miserable waitstaff and bar staff. Its a shame they make the experience so unpleasant this could be a great place with the location and open windows. Also the new dress code is over doing it- this isn't a fine dining restaurant its a bar! read more

I came here with a friend for lunch and in the back of my mind were those old, funny, shady, low-production value commercials this establishment used to have on TV. The actual pub is not much better than those commercials. The service was slow (understandable because it was during the day and the pub was likely short-staffed), but friendly. The beer selection is nothing to rave about, and the food quality was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered two burgers, which didn't taste fresh and which were definitely overcooked to the point of being dry. It wouldn't be fair to expect gourmet burgers from a place like this, but a properly cooked burger is certainly an expectation. Given the location, I had higher expectations. This pub falls very short of the standard set by Greater Boston Area pubs like Russell House or Five Horses Tavern, which delight the college crowds in their respective areas (a pity for Worcester's college students). No doubt, if you're simply looking for a fun place to drink with no high expectations for your food, Funky's will be just fine. Otherwise, given the alternative options on Shrewsbury St., there's no reason to go out of your way to come here. read more

Came here for an afternoon lunch and a couple of beers with a friend for the first time. Initial impression, love the location and love the outside seating and open windows. Definitely a college hang out. When we entered, no one greeted us or told us to just sit where you like, which is apparently how it works here. We sort of assumed after being ignored that it was a sit yourself atmosphere. Once we did a waiter came over quickly and took our drink order. The beer selection isn't huge, but they have all the important staples. The nacho appetizer was huge and delicious. We also ordered the pilgrim wrap and fish tacos which were both very good. Pricing here is also incredibly reasonable. 4 beers, an appetizer, and two entrees for $48 (before tip.) Three stars is for the mediocre service, as stated no one greeted us and paying the bill took much longer than it needed to. It's also very hard to tell who actually works here as everyone wears plain street clothes. I'd like to come again to give the service a second chance because the location is really cool. read more

Used to go a lot for the bar scene and late kitchen, personally only liked the nachos because they go good with beers and booze. Been going for a while, but then one day out of random they kicked me out for smelling like pot... I am a medical patient it is kind of outrageous how I have been to less strict public places but the COCAINE PARTIES AND DRUNKEN PEOPLE ALL OVER THE PLACE are okay because other customers cannot see (or smell) them. Owner is really biased.. unbelievable; regret all the money I have given them over time read more

We stopped in at FM because we had an appt on this side of the city. We waited 10 min Hoping to have a server stop at the table. All 3 servers looked our way and kept going. Ea server stopped at 1 table at a time. Lots of wasted time and inefficient. I'd also like to add that 2 different parties came in after us and already had their drinks before we left to go somewhere else to eat. Staff / servers need some direction. Terrible service read more

You can tell this bar was designed by a man. There are flat screen TVs at every angle imaginable. When you're pretending to look at your date, you can be watching eight different game simultaneously! The food is pretty good (My favorite is the pilgrim wrap), the prices are reasonable and it's not overly loud or packed. read more

Well my post has a disclaimer because I stopped in here for lunch on Easter; it was one of the only places open. Therefore, my service was fast, the food was hot, the place was clean, and the portions were large. Came here after work for a snack before heading home. It was a cold weeknight so it was pretty empty. I took a seat at the bar. Had a Cold Snap and ordered a plate of nachos. Beer was good. I prefer a chilled glass but maybe I should have asked for one. The plate of nachos was very big for one person. They were pretty good. I thought at times they tasted like the chips were a bit burned. But overall a great plate of traditional nachos. I will come again and try something different. Atmosphere was nice. Dimly lit. Bartender was friendly but not intrusive. read more

A great bar if you're looking for a casual spot to grab a few drinks with friends. Of course there is seating at the bar and high-tops nearby, but around the corner are plenty of booths and more space for larger groups. The music is louder closer to the bar (a little bit of room for dancing), but as you head back to your booth-in-back, the music fades away; great for conversation...boring if you want to dance with a load of friends. BUT - the bar IS fully-loaded. Orders from our large party: shots of Jager, shots of Goldschläger, "Birthday Cake" shots, Tequila & Coke, Vodka Tonic, Cape Codder, Rum & Coke, etc etc etc (...it was a crazy night). Prices were average...but I totally got RIPPED OFF for my last-call beverage (aaaallllllll tonic, a drip of vodka). We had a grand ole time - then l the lights came up and the bouncers shepherded us in the direction of the door. A pretty good time and super casual (but a sports bar is a bar is a bar). read more

The drinks here are good, most of the food is pretty good, but the service is totally hit-or-miss. On my most recent visit my friend and I shared the nachos for an appetizer. They are loaded with cheese and chili and veggies. Most importantly, they are expertly crafted so that each chip has something on it instead of all of the toppings globbed in one spot. My Caesar salad was okay, not the greatest nor the worst I've ever had. My friend ordered ten-cent wings, which is the reason why we kept going back. On this particular visit, the service was lacking in a serious way. There is no host, so we seated ourselves (which, when he finally saw us, seemed to startle our waiter). It took a little longer than normal to put our orders in, but once we did, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. When we finished eating, the waiter dropped off the check and disappeared for 45 minutes. I wish I was exaggerating. After 45 minutes, a different server came over to cash us out. Maybe he was having an off day. Lucky for him, we weren't in a rush, but another customer may not have been so understanding. read more

Been here twice and both times were for their Monday 10cent drumsticks. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the drumsticks! i thought I was getting the tiny ones, but they're actually full size drumsticks. Unlimited ordering and comes in 3 flavors. I believe they're bbq, teriyaki and plain? Bleu cheese and celery and carrots as side for $1. They also have a good selection of beer. LCD TV for all the games. Their spinach and artichoke dip was ok. Hard to mess up nachos so they're good and very big portion. read more

I go often after weekend flag football or ultimate frisbee with friends on Sundays- as they have10 cent drumsticks that can't be beat- the BBQ sauce there is very tasty- sweet. Buffalo is buffalo, stay away from the teriyaki. I've tried the other food too, it's pretty decent. We usually sit in the back, there are several big TVs with different games going on. read more

A decent place to catch a game, meet up with friends, or play bar trivia. I'm sure it was fun on weekends, too, but I never made it out this way since there aren't many other places nearby to hop around to if you're looking to have a night out. My coworkers and I would come almost weekly for the trivia, and there was usually a decent turn out. The drawback was only how late it started/ran (usually 9-11 PM). Prizes were giftcards to Funky's. The food is nothing to write home about, but if you're hungry, it' will more than do. The waitstaff and bartenders were always friendly and helpful. They often had decent deals and inexpensive drinks and apps, too. read more

went there for football games and their drumstick specials. It's a bar with kinda fried food, but overall hit the spots with beers and friends. Excellent breakfast Sunday with our favorite hope. That's right hopey Tula. Thank you for great service

The food is pretty mediocre. Just typical bar food. I ordered dinner here once and it was actually disgusting. A microwave meal would have been better. I took one bite of it and told the waiter it wasn't good. He talked to his manager and the only thing she said was " I can't take it off the bill" first off, I didn't ask for you to take it off the bill. The least they could have done was remake it for me and they didn't even offer that. I barely even touched it. The manger clearly doesn't care about the customers. I wasn't expecting a five star meal but some edible food would have been nice. Never coming back. read more

This place is trash. Overpriced. Terrible drinks unless you're getting a beer. Apparently they have a dress code? I looked on google, yelp, and their website... Neither of them said they did. So I go in wearing a tanktop cause its 90 out and summer time, and some waitress kicks me out...???? ITS 90 OUT! AND SUMMER TIME! Not for nothing but this place isnt a 5 star restaurant or fine dining whatsoever. Also if you look on Google it says the crowd is college students, groups, tourist, and that the atmosphere is casual! Is a tanktop in the summer time not casual??? I will however tell people to not go there :) read more

I come to this establishment often and always have a great time, except for two weeks ago. I went on a Friday and ordered salmon. I was up all night sick as a dog from food poisoning from the salmon. When I called the following day to let them know (to prevent the same thing happening to someone else) the woman on the phone said "sorry about that" and hung up. I expected to be offered at least something to makeup for being violently ill from their food, but they didn't seem to care. Disappointing. read more
