So I was just denied service at Funky Murphy Worcester MA after I got out of work with coworkers because the a bartender (John) said he saw me reverse 3 spots into a parking spot in front of the restaurant and claims that I went up the curb when I was reversing into the parking spot. I told him that I did not go up the curb and he began arguing with me about it in front of other customers and my friends. He said I don't feel comfortable serving you alcohol and denied me service when he asked me and my friends if we was eating and drinking after seeing me park I asked him if there was a manager or owner I could talk to about him denying me service and he said there is no manager or owner and declined to provide me with any contact information or someone to talk to about the incident going forward I'm working on getting the owner information and bringing it up to his attention read more

Sat at the bar on a Friday night and the front windows were open which was super nice. The service was great and quick. Food tasted delicious and was reasonably priced. Their margarita's are just $5! We started with the buffalo chicken dip, this is a great choice, it was very filling. On the plus side: My dining companion ordered the baked fish platter...shrimp, scallops, haddock, buttered Ritz crumbs....cooked to perfection... unfortunately the broccoli was raw, bland and cold. Mashed pot were definitely home made, but again COLD. Unfortunately after taking our orders the server went totally MIA I chose the fried fishermans platter, chunks of haddock, shrimp and scallops, fried to perfection in a light batter, served over a pile of cold, soggy NASTY fries. Again, where was the server when needed, oh yes, flirting with the young girls in the bar. Drink and meal orders were taken shortly after arrival, with our server never to be seen until after dinner was finished...water and drinks never refilled, never had an opportunity to complain about the cold sides .. After dinner was finished, server did clear the table and we asked for the check, and we sat and sat and sat ...finally another waitress came over after 20 minutes and asked if she could get us anything......some service would have been nice Come on, if the kitchen would step up their game, and the servers did their job, this could have easily been a great meal.... unfortunately as long as the bar continues to be a cash cow, the owners care little about the dining crowd. read more

We were at the restaurant this past Monday afternoon for lunch. The food was pretty good and we sat in the back in the restaurant area. Ambience was so so not as exciting as the front but we were with our son who was under the age of 21. Unfortunately the waitress was a disaster very little communication it felt like they thought they were doing us a favor. My son and I were in there over a month ago. It was a Friday night and it wasn't busy at all. We were told to sit anywhere we wanted to. We sat at the table near the bar. However we waited close to 20 minutes for a drink. And then they took forever to give us a menu and our drinks. We had to ask for them. We figured at the time we would order our food. The waiter we had was giving us an attitude. We noticed that some of his friends came in who were there every single night and he kept going over and talking to them at the bar. Also some other customers that were sitting in the restaurant that came after us were being served and we're still waiting for our food which is now close to an hour. We weren't even asked if he wanted a drink. So I asked the waiter if our food is coming out, we ordered a cubana and fish and chips. Again he gave us an attitude and went into the kitchen and brought out our food. My son's cubana was not even cooked the right way and it was ice cold and my fish and chips looked like they've been sitting under a heat lamp forever. My son's cubana tasted spoiled and we called the waiter over and said that we were not going to eat our meal and that we were leaving. He did not try to compensate us or ask us if we wanted anything else. He just gave us a dirty look and we left and he was pissed. Well that's tough if you cannot be nice to customers and try to make sure that they are happy. So we got up and left and didn't eat anything and didn't pay for our drinks. We only had one each and it was a cheap draft beer. We decided that we were going to go there this evening and have a light bite to eat and go home. However, a fat waitress called me over to the side and told me that I am not allowed to come into the establishment anymore. I asked her why and she said because of what happened the last time you were here. I tried to explain what happened and she said I wasn't here so I don't know what's going on but I was told that you cannot come into this place anymore. They do have their favorites down there. There are a few people that go down there and drink and eat every single night and play keno and they're catered to constantly. This fat waitress and the waiter that we had that evening we're very rude and very unprofessional. He was wrong because the food was rotten and he had a terrible attitude and the food also was cold. This fat chick didn't even know what was going on and had the audacity to kick us out. Needless to say, there are much better places to eat on Shrewsbury Street and we had a fantastic meal at another restaurant. Please don't waste your time coming to the place unless you're one of their kiss ass favorite customers. I have seen people kicked out of the establishment for wearing a tank top and scrubs. This place is no big deal. It's your basic barroom that's loud and definitely not a five star place. I don't know who these people think they are, but they better get their act together. The food is very good and priced very reasonably. It's a sports bar, so it can get noisy. The service is spotty. Two male friends and I go in about every two weeks, mostly for their Tuesday night special. We always ask for separate checks. You HAVE to remember to ask because they never ask and if you bring it up at payment time it can be a problem. We've been told, "You should have asked when the person takes the order". We are often served by several people and don't see the original waiter. Sometimes when we ask when seated, we might be told, it depends on how busy they are. To the point of being rude at times. Visited Funky Murphy's from the recommendation of a few locals for a quick spot to grab a meal and a few beers. It's located right off Shrewsberry Street and seems to be sort of a Worcester cult classic. I was really impressed with the menu, especially the daily specials. I was there on Tuesday and went for the prime rib special, which was cooked exactly to my liking, and very reasonably priced. There's a nice bar area with plenty of TVs to catch a game. Sometimes I've been there and they have a large projector screen up with the Red Sox or Bruins on. They have large retractable windows that open when the weather is nice, creating an outdoor feel to the dining experience. My one knock on the selfish man is there a draft beer selection. They have lots of macro beers, but not many local craft options. However, with that said they were still plenty of options. Overall, I would recommend this place, particularly for their daily specials if you want a quick meal, a few drinks, and a good location to catch a game. read more

Food: the food is your typical American style appetizers, which is really good when you're drunk or high. But it's like nothing over the top. Otherwise it's average , okay portions sides. Service: the service was great. We had two people making sure that we had everything including water and drinks/food. Shout out to the server man that took our pictures as well! Ambiance: it definitely feels like your typical college bar after a certain time, but it varies on crowds depending on the day. usually after 11 that's what it gets more like a night out where people are just having a good time and drinking, Which the drinks are pretty inexpensive. I'm a bit biased as this is not my go to place to go out but most of my friends like going there and it's definitely a place for a younger crowd/for the boys. There are definitely times where the crowd can be a bit too rowdy or the security is not very nice at times, but I personally never had a bad experience. Location accommodation: they have sidestreet parking as well as a open patio windows to get some fresh air and they have a background in case you don't really want to be at the front surrounded by too many people. read more

Food was inedible, my soft tortilla wraps were HARD and falling apart, literally defeating the purpose. The ambiance was nonexistent, or maybe just overshadowed by the absolute worst service Ive ever had. My partner and I wanted to give this place a try on 5/12/23. We show up at 5:25pm and it was crowded. Totally get it, it's a Friday. We were offered an outside seat and we took it. The waitress took our drink order and got them rather quickly. She then asked me for a card to put on tab - I assume because we were outside and they didn't want us to dine and dash. The sun was beating down on our necks. There was no shade outside in the front of the building. We sat there for about 20 minutes waiting for the waitress to come back and take our order. After a total of about 25 minutes of waiting, we went inside with our drinks and waited at the front. Multiple waitresses made eye-contact with me and never asked if we needed help. FINALLY, a waitress asked if we needed help, and I asked to pay for my partners soda so we could leave at 6:00pm. Worst service I've had since moving to Massachusetts. FYI I've been there twice and both times I've gone outside they would not let me re-enter. The bouncer even said it's not the first time this kind of thing happened. So beware. Great atmosphere with the windows open on the sunny day. Bartender was super nice. However whoever made the schedule for that day had it severely understaffed. I felt bad for the people working but it took about 30 minutes for us to get our order and another 45 minutes before we got our food. I have been going to funky murphy's for a while now, the food is usually okay and the prices are very reasonable. However, today i ordered steak tips with fries, and my partner order a blackened shrimp salad. There was no seasoning in the steak tip and they tasted boiled. The fries were not fresh, they tasted like they were warmed in the microwave. My partner got a Caesar salad with crotons and soaked in ranched dressing and a few shrimps thrown on top.
