Went there with a party of 8 for lunch, thinking that we would 1) have to wait a while because it was lunch hour 2) family style a bunch of dishes a la carte. However, right when we got there, our party of 8 was seated almost immediately even though it was bustling! And right as we sat down, the heavenly dim sum carts were already at our table!! One friend's first time having dim sum ever and said, "is this what heaven is like? My eyes have been opened!!" (Hahaha) Food is sooooooo good (ask for the hot chili sauce), service is great, servers are wonderful and bilingual. We left nothing, we were all SO full, and we only paid about $23 per person. Favorite dim sum spot on Castro! Been here multiple times now and the dim sum is always delicious. We had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes for our party of 7 but once we were seated and placed our order they came out with the food pretty fast. Waiters were also good at refilling our tea consistently and ensuring all our items were received! Favorite items: - fried tofu with green onions (super crispy but really soft tofu chunks inside) - baked custard bun - chicken with sticky rice - shrimp rice roll Ended up being around $23 per person including tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable considering how much we ordered (especially since we also ordered extra veggies for the vegetarians in our group). This past weekend I placed an order via phone and picked up the food in 20 minutes. For two people we got 6 different dim sum items, and that was more than enough. Everything was delicious, including the classic steamed salted egg yolk bun, shrimp & pork dumpling, and chicken feet. In addition to the non-vegan classics, since my partner is vegetarian, we also got some interesting new items, such as the veggie rice noodle roll, the chilled cucumber w/ garlic, and veggie spring rolls and the chilled bean curd skin. Our favorite was the rice noodle roll. TBH I never thought the rice noodle roll could be completely vegetarian and still so flavorful. The chilled cucumber salad was our second favorite, always a classic Chinese salad. My partner loved the spring rolls as well, but I'm not a big fan of deep fried food. The chilled bean curd skin was tasty but way too chilled. It tasted much better after heated up. Total was less than $60, which was really cheap, given the portion and the location of the restaurant. 3.5 Stars. Came back for couple more visits and their Chicken and String Beans (or you can do another vegetable like Yu Choy) is still my favorite. Their Beef Chow Fun and Lo Mai Fan are good also. Both weren't too oily and noodles and grains weren't broken. The Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp was better this time around as well. Cumin Lamb w/ Ginger and Scallion was tender with strong cumin flavor, but way too much onions. Their Moo Shoo Pork was mostly vegetable as well. The Pea Sprouts w/ Garlic had a few fibrous pieces still and could've used more garlic. All three of these were still good though in terms of flavor. The Salt and Pepper Fish was my least favorite as I just wasn't a fan of the breading. The whole thing reminded me of and tasted like frozen fish sticks. read more

My parents love coming here after they walk around at the farmers market on Sunday. They don't take reservations so make sure to show up early when they open! Fu Lam Mum is a standard dimsum restaurant. Their food and service is pretty good so you can't really go wrong by coming here. We usually order ha gow, siu mai, fish congee, shrimp noodle rolls, pork ribs and a bunch of other things but I haven't had anything here that I didn't like but one of my favorite things to order is the fried dough rice noodle roll. It seems like this is the only place that has this dish and I haven't had it outside of HK before. If you are seated outside, it's a little hard flagging down a waiter for more tea/utensils but the ambiance here is great. Definitely recommend checking this place out for dimsum if you are in the area! read more

Wow this is definitely one of the better dimsum spots in the bay! The service is also pretty good which is pretty rare to find at a dimsum spot LOL. They have seating both indoors and outdoors. We tried the har gow, the shrimp and mushroom, the shrimp egg white and scallop, the eggplant and shrimp, and the crab, scallop and shrimp soup dumpling. They were honestly all delicious and I would recommend any of them! The skins of the dumpling have a nice stickiness to them. The scallop shrimp and soup dumpling comes with one giant dumpling in a bowl of broth, just FYI. The dumpling is big enough for like 2-3 bites worth. It's definitely not the cheapest dimsum but it's not so pricey where I wouldn't spend my money there (I just had dimsum in Belmont that was even more pricey and not nearly as tasty! The dim sum here is fantastic, albeit it was a bit overwhelming with the selection and no consistent patterns of the food carts moving. The service was the area that could use a little work, although it did not hinder the experience as there was so much food on our table throughout our time there I loved the ambiance and this is what really made for the entire dining experience. We were a bit full from the Farmers Market (3 piroshkis + fruit!) so we only got a few items: - Shanghai Soup Dumpling - loved these! The dough was nice and chewy and the flavor/soup inside was yummy. I loved how they put a little piece of carrot on the bottom so the dough doesn't break - Shumai - yum, although the pork was a bit smelly. Prefer the shumai at Golden Palace the most so far - Shrimp Dumplings - these dumplings had the chewiest, stickiest dough I've ever had, but the shrimp had a strange flavor. It tasted a bit sour, similar to white vinegar but with a chemical/preservative taste? Would have loved them if they didn't have the hint of sourness in there - Preserved Egg Porridge - good. You can tell they boil all of the ingredients together (instead of other houses where you can tell they just add in the ingredients separately) - Pan Fried Shrimp and Chives Dumpling - I forgot to take a pic of these, but they were good too, lots of shrimp and fresh chives Would definitely come again with empty stomachs so we can try more items! read more

Alright but wouldn't come here again. I've always been intrigued to try Fu Lam Mum since I've heard it's a staple in Downtown Mountain View. My friend was really craving dim sum so we decided to check it out for a quick meal for four. We ordered the xiao long bao, pork potstickers, and chicken chow mein. Usually I would not order these except my friends really wanted it. Xiao long bao is usually promising but there was no soup in it at all - or it was all absorbed. The potstickers were super soggy as well. I did not enjoy the chicken chow mein because it was overly salty. I really wanted to enjoy it - my friends thought it was decent but I believe my expectations for Chinese food is high since I'm Chinese myself. This used to be our go to Chinese food and dim sum place while we were living in Mountain View 3+ years ago. So for our Family Valentine's lunch this year, we thought of visiting the place again. We went last Friday CNY lunch time. They have a good number of table outside to accommodate diners. We got seated right away, unlike our usual experience before that the place is crowded. Well probably because it's still covid season and not as many people are out to dine. One of my main dilemma when I go to Chinese resto is I like a lot of food, but most of them are for sharing. Sadly me and my husband don't like the same dishes so we can't order everything to share, or one has to give in. So we ordered 2 dim sum, Shiu mai and Har gow, Beef chow mein, Seafood Hot and Sour Soup, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and Salt and Pepper Pork Chops. The dim sum is still ood. You can see the quality of the Shiu mai and the Har gow. It doesn't taste like something frozen. Meanwhile, the Hot & Sour soup has the right amount of vegetables and mushroom, and right level of spicy hot. On the other hand, the Chow Mein was a bit dry. The Salt and Pepper Calamari was still as good as we remembered it. Although this time the cut looks bigger. I prefer it more bite size. The Salt and Pepper Pork Chops we ordered for the kids was a hit. The breading was good and crunchy but the meat is soft and easy to bite and chew. We end up paying $100 for a meal for 2 adults and 2 kids, but with extra food to go for 2 meals at home. So it was not that bad. I just wish they have smaller servings so I can try more. Also the dishes, because it's for sharing is pricey, that they add up pretty fast to your check. The staff was pretty fast and attentive. Fu Lam Mum does dimsum right! I had several versions of shrimp balls and a "crab claw". One of the shrimp balls with a crispy, flaky outside, a shrimp dumpling. I also had a beef dumpling-we wanted beef noodles but the order was switched, may be worth confirming your order, especially if it is a large one, before pickup! The crab claw was so creative, a shrimp balls with a crab claw shell handle. The beef dumplings were a bit simple for my taste, but the fish- foods were real standouts! The sauces - sweet, soy-based and a chilli paste also added extra flavor. My absolute favorite were the sesame balls which were superb! First time trying shrimp & chives dumplings and it was very good. Good portion of shrimp and chives inside the fried dumpling wrapper. The mild oniony flavor of the chives complemented the sweetness of the shrimp. The wrapper was not too thick or chewy. The other winner for me was the pineapple bun with custard filling. The custard was not overly sweet; bun was perfectly crusted with the crispy layer. Also had the har gaw or steamed shrimp dumplings which was not spectacular nor better than other restaurants. The Xiao long Bao was good but didn't have a lot of soup inside. Filling was not too salty. Shrimp in noodle roll was good but could use more shrimp. The actual noodle roll was perfectly cooked and was not too thick or chewy. The Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce looked like it was drizzled with oil and helped balance the feeling of having a lot of carbs from the dumplings. Nice bright dining area. Staff were nice. Didn't have to wait too long for the type of dimsum I wanted with the carts going around were always fully stocked. Some of the other dimsum restaurants I've been took long in refilling the popular items but didn't have that issue at Fu Lam Mum. Wait could be long on the weekends by 11am. Parking lot is conveniently located behind the restaurant but could fill pretty quickly. Price is on the upper range for dimsum. read more

As in pre-Covid times, Fu Lum Mum is still our go-to local dim sum spot. The quality of the food is still solid, the take out process is smooth and the prices are reasonable. Highlights still include: the siu mai (plump and packed with pork and shrimp), the beef rice rolls (the beef is super tender, rice rolls delicately constructed), the sticky rice in lotus leaf (love the lop cheung and salty egg inside), the deep fried green tea mochi ball (so crispy on the outside- even after a car ride- and yummy black sesame filling inside). Things that they surprisingly don't do as well: the bean curd wraps (this is usually well done at most dim sum places, the seasoning here just isn't as well done), the pork ribs with black beans (too many little and big bones) read more

Decent Food with a side of Horrible Service. We arrived 10 mins before they opened, and indoor dining was "full" unless you know the staff that is.. we were seated outside. Then watched them escort a party of 4 that they knew inside right after. *eye rolls* First time trying this restaurant and we were unaware of how they do service. We waited to place our order and given stank faces when asking questions or straight up ignored if we tried to flag them down. They rushed us and had no patience at all to even take our order down. When we asked to keep a menu - we were yelled at and met with judgmental "woooows" and then they snatched the menu off the table. My parents are use to cart dimsum.. but obviously coronavirus.. so things are different. So if they see the server pulling out something and ask what it's called .. why are these servers snapping at them like it's not your damn job to service the customer. Food was good, big portions but very slow turn around to get plates ordered. I think OC dimsum is still better. Also- no heating lamps so bring a snow jacket, beanie, scarf, and easyup. Authentic dim sum are served, not the same if you eat these dishes at home. Their food is fresh and match quality before Covid. One thing I like it better than before, it is actually nicer to enjoy dim sum outside since it is less noisy and more enjoyable to be under tall trees. Castro block down car paths so it is wonderful to walk down the street for ice cream or gelato after your meal. Cake and pasty shop within walking distance, just love the choice. If you have young kids this is even better setting. Now even kids can play during dim sum lunch without the need to ask them to seat down or beware of people walking. We haven't been here since pre-Covid and decided to try to have dinner since they closed Castro and accommodated restaurants for outdoor dining. We were shocked how crowded Castro was for a Saturday night! We thought we'd have a long wait but luckily our timing was just right. We were the next party to be seated. Score! Takeout was also busy for them. As we waited, I was impressed how the waiters cleaned up the tables. They sanitized the table and chairs after a party left. When we sat, my chair was still damp (lol) but I didn't care since I knew it was clean! They clip a fresh piece of paper table cover. They are VERY organized and got a good system going and felt comfortable and safe to dine here. Service was fast and the waiters were attentive. You have to ask for water and they'd come around and filled the glass without us asking. Food came out piping hot and delicious. It started to get dark and lighting was good for FLM customers. We noticed as we walked past other establishments, lighting seems to be an issue. Always a good dining experience for us. More so with the pandemic and how FLM follow protocols. read more

This place is poppin. My coworker and I dropped by for a late Saturday lunch & still took 30+ mins until our number was called. I don't particularly mind since they're spacing out tables and sanitizing in between, I just appreciate their dedication to keeping patrons safe being as popular as they are. The street is blocked off for all restaurants' outdoor seating-- luckily, Fu Lam Mum's tables are comfortably shaded under the trees. Quick & friendly service. Our four dishes totaled only $25 before tip-- while a bit pricier than other south bay spots, I'm guessing the run-up is due to Mountain View real estate lol SHRIMP RICE NOODLE ROLL: Always love these. I think the sauce could be a bit more flavorful, but otherwise decent. SHIU MAI: Also standard. Literally just what I expect when I want shiu mai. CRAB CLAW W/SHRIMP PASTE: The flaky shell reminds me of coconut fried shrimp, but the filling is like a... chewy fish ball? LOL. The actual crab meat is pretty limited, but I thought these were fun on presentation alone (Ok so I've never seen these before.........) BAKED BBQ PORK BUN: Yeah I just never knew these could come baked. This elevates bbq pork buns to another level LOL. The bbq pork is perfectly sweet & savory, fits delightfully in the fluffy, toasted bun. Great location in downtown Mountain View, esp if you don't want to drive deep into SJ for dim sum. While Fu Lum Mam is a little more outdated in the sea of trendy, aesthetically-pleasing restaurants, don't count this place out. I was first to get a table. The staff and I wore face coverings as I was seated and handed menus. I got Jasmine Tea, and I ordered three items (Har Gow, Chicken Feet, and Custard Buns). As I drank my Tea, people saw me and in turn got tables as well. Socially Distanced, most of the tables outside were filled. I soon got my Dim Sum. The food was good. Excellent service and yummy authentic Cantonese cuisine. They are the only Chinese restaurant which serve deep fried soft shell crab in the Bay Area. It was a bit salty the first time but I call them and they are happy to de-salt the crab a couple of hours prior to my arrival. Then they come out perfect for my taste!!! It's been really hard finding any Chinese restaurants that offer outdoor dining during COVID. I'm glad I gave this place a chance even though overall star ratings were so low. They don't offer virtual waitlist so it's good ol' fashion write-your-name-on-the-paper list! On a Saturday, we arrived at 1:15pm. The atmosphere is beautiful suburban downtown nature vibe. All the staff are bilingual and if you're used to standard service at a Chinese restaurant, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Kiddo really wanted roast duck and even though I can easily get a whole one for takeout at SF or Ranch99, there's something about a sit down service that we craved. So yes we got less duck and spent more money but we thoroughly enjoyed every delicious bite -- juicy, crispy skin, perfect amount of seasoning. $17 for half. Everything we ordered was standard dim sum and while there weren't any uniquely creative dishes like at some other overpriced fancy places, these items were all spot on in terms of flavor and freshness.
