Food was really good and the coffee was amazing. Only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because of the service. It was my first time here and I went alone but the staff was confusing in directions to me. Basically they had one line for to go orders and you have to talk to someone else to get seated. Because I was a party of one they assumed I was to go so I had to wait like 15-20 minutes to get a place to sit and eat my food. Once I was sat service was quick but it seemed like the person forgot about me. Thankfully the vibes were chill and people were friendly so the time went by pretty fast. read more

Was in Nashville and had to check this place out when we were on 12south. Variety of lattes, cappuccino and coffees tons to choose from our group had a turtle latte, monkey mocha, golden monkey and classic Vanilla latte. Came on a Monday around 9:am and though it was busy, we were seated right away. I like this location. Cute tree house vibe in a chill neighborhood. The specialty coffees are absolutely delicious. DO NOT FALL FOR THR AMBIENCE OF THIS PLACE. The food is bad. Sandwich bread and breakfast bread is dry and tasteless. The sides are also bad. It also doesn't look appealing either. Service is also bad. Took an hour for our waters to be refilled, and there were only a few tables of people there. I had a bad experience 3 years ago, but wanted to give another shot since the reviews seemed better. It is still the same. Stopped by here with a group of girls on a Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy with a line from the counter out through front door but it moved quickly. I am a big Bloody Mary girl so I was excited to see they offered these on the menu. However, it has coffee in it! I asked the girl at the counter about it and she said it was really subtle and you couldn't taste it. I took the risk and was happy I did because it was delish! Greeted with a smile, the cashier was so friendly and charismatic. The service was very personable. We ordered two coffees, hot chocolate, ham and pimento cheese bagel, and an everything bagel with egg cheese and bacon. Everything was delicious. The bacon was cooked in herbs that were delicious. The hot chocolate was the hit of the party - one person in our group described it as "magical"! You MUST order one if you go! Very quaint establishment with rustic and home-like vibes. bacon egg and cheese on everything bagel: 9/10 such a good bagel sandwich wow. other reviews ranked it poorly because they said the bagel was hard. i could agree with this and it's why it isn't 10/10, the bagel wasn't the greatest but it wasn't bad at all. the bagel would have to be amazing to get 10/10 though. the filling was so delicious because it was very fresh as any good bagel sandwich should be. the cheese was nicely melted and it was very flavorful! i also got this after 5pm (which is when they stop serving them) which was super nice! this part has nothing to do with frothy monkey- i have left another really long review on frothy monkey but it doesn't let me update that one so this is a separate post. i am wishing for a yelp update where you can edit old posts and add to them AND leave another separate review read more

Cozy coffee shop that offers a variety of food and drinks that will meet the needs of everyone in your group. Staff is friendly and efficient with how busy the location is. We wanted to check out this spot on a Saturday around 10:30. There was around a 45 minute wait so we opted to try again on Sunday. Sunday we arrived around 8:45 and there was a 15 minute wait. The food and drinks we ordered were good. I got the farm breakfast with a bagel substitute. The bagel did not come toasted. I would recommend requesting the bagel be toasted if you prefer it to be warm and crispy. The lattes ordered were on point. Visited frothy monkey twice on a recent visit to the area. I really like the ambience and uniqueness of the menu. For drinks, I got a hot london fog with their rose syrup - the drink was a little too milky but I still enjoyed my beverage. The next day, we returned and did lunch. We got the black bean patty burger and the breakfast plate (sourdough, eggs, and avocado with salsa). The food was good, I did not like the pimento cheese on my burger (texture threw me off) but the burger was toast were tasty! Especially liked their homemade salsa. The service was also attentive and friendly. Overall, a great coffee shop if you are in Nashville. read more

The area of this location is beautiful and there are so many shops in the area, especially around October they even had a small pumpkin patch next door. We went on a Friday and the wait was only 30 minutes. Our server was nice, but not the most attentive and forgot to bring my mimosa, luckily it wasn't on the bill. We ordered the Turtle Latte, French Toast, and Farm breakfast. The turtle latte was pretty average in my opinion, I'd give it a 4/5. The French toast was good, 4/5. The Farm breakfast was kind of bland 3/5, not bad just nothing special and lacking seasoning except the grits. This place is pretty over hyped in my opinion so I can't necessarily say it's worth going. read more

We stopped by on a journey to Nashville, and have been buying the coffee beans in bulk ever since. 12 South is our personal favorite, but we haven't found a coffee around the country that compares yet. Long time fans of the monkey!! Never a bad experience, but I want to tell you about today. My daughter and I drove up to Nashville today for her birthday. Grabbed a coffee and wandered down to The Salty for a donut. On our way back my daughter tripped and did a face dive into the sidewalk. She came up looking like she'd been to fight club, but we don't talk about that. One of the ladies on the street happened to be a nurse and she helped clean my daughter up and keep her calm. This nurse ran into Frothy and asked for an ice pack, well this young lady, wish I'd caught her name, came out with an ice pack, Neosporin, napkins. Asked my daughter what she was drinking, brought her a brand new latte, some ice water and a few really pretty band aids from her personal stash. I can only assume she was the manager, if not at least the employee of the month!! Fantastic hospitality, saved the day. Ten stars, y'all rock!! If you're ever near a Frothy Monkey give them a try, coffee, tea, tasty treats and southern charm!! read more

I don't know what to think. How can two meals from the same place on the same order be so crazy different. The salmon was delicious. The omelette I got to go for a guest was not edible, it was so over cooked it was crap. I am irritated because this is not what you should get when you spend $40 for a meal. Omelette went into the trash. Had to go someplace else and spend more money. No quality control check clearly. read more

My daughter and I went here ahead of a busy day of apartment hunting. We both ordered the Farm breakfast, hers with scrambled eggs and mine with fried eggs, over medium. We had bacon and substituted fruit for grits. I was excited to have fried eggs with toast - it's a favorite. I was disappointed to receive two slivers of raw sourdough bread - not the toast promised. The bacon was super salty and greasy. Honestly a "meh" experience at best. Be warned - this place is loud. Voices carry far and loud. read more

This place was just a disappointment. My meal was truly awful. The eggs were oversalted. The sausage didn't even taste anything like sausage. Even the toast was not good- bread was hard. I was also very disappointed in the coffee and didn't even end up drinking it. I would not return or recommend this place. This has made it to my top 3 worst restaurants I've ever been to. read more

Strolling through 12 South with nothing to do, we stopped at Frothy Monkey to rest our feet and recaffeinate while watching the passersby. We got a london fog (ear gray tea with oat milk) and a cortado, which came with a small shot of seltzer water (as it should). Both drinks were perfect and hit the spot. Sitting outside, we sipped away while watching folks go back and forth. But beware the falling pears from the tree! Frothy Monkey is a great way to spend some time on a warm afternoon in Nashville. read more

We were looking for some unique coffee shops in Nashville, and people kept telling us to check out Frothy Monkey! Apparently they have some amazing food here because we couldn't even get a table if we tried, but luckily we were just in for coffee and got to go straight to the baristas! We tried a Monkey Mocha, a Golden Monkey, and a Turtle! The coffees were all delicious, and the monkey mocha surprised us the most because it has a banana element to it that I've never had before! Got the Blume (seasonal) coffee which was banana lavender and it was so good and really cute - they added flowers to the latte! The rosemary honey latte is year round and amazing, would absolutely get again. Then we got the farm breakfast - the Gouda grits were so good that even my friend who hates cheese liked it and the bacon may be the best I've ever had. I enjoyed Frothy Monkey. It's super popular and gets crowded quickly, but I went when it opened, so it was a peaceful visit. Service was good and I like that there is seated service. My iced hazelnut latte was good. I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich, but it was the tiniest breakfast sandwich I've ever seen. I thought it was a joke at first. You definitely need to order more if you are hungry. Their house hot sauce was really good. I probably wouldn't rush here, but it's a decent option in Nashville. read more

A must try! We were excited to try out Frothy Monkey on our recent visit to Nashville, we visited the 12 South location. Love that it had picnic tables outside to sit at. It was rather chilly and windy the morning we stopped in so we chose to sit inside. We arrived on a Wednesday morning after 9 am and there was a 15 min wait, not bad- but something to note when planning. This place was buzzing and bustling the way it should be- exciting to see such a well loved place be busy. We were able to get drinks while we wait for a table. I chose a vanilla latte with oat milk and it was so good! Love that they locally roast and source their coffee and food. There's even a list of all the local farms they use which is amazing. Truly supporting small and local when you eat here! My husband got the breakfast sandwich on a bagel and I chose the French toast which was equally delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful and allowed us to linger for a bit longer this being our first time here to eat. We will be back again when we're visiting Nashville again! read more

Such a cute location! Really conveniently located on 12th South. Very busy too! The rest of my group didn't have to wait too long to get their drinks, but I had to wait past every person that ordered after me. After going up to the bar twice asking for my drink I finally got it but then they asked if I ordered two drinks because they had made two. One was hot and one was iced, but I had only ordered the hot monkey mocha. I don't think that's what I ended up with which was disappointing but it was an honest mistake I'm sure. My drink definitely tasted like a Rosemary honey latte. There was no chocolate sauce or banana syrup in my drink. Hopefully I'll get another chance to try it! read more

I came here with my older son for breakfast during school fall break. It's just as good last year! He loved his kids French toast and hot chocolate. The egg and Caprese sandwich was so simple and delicious. Iced Americano here is so good and affordably priced. I've been going to Frothy Monkey for coffee for years, but this was the first time I've ordered food there! I was so impressed with the biscuits and gravy I ordered. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. My friend ordered the French toast and a croissant which she also thought was amazing. It took a little bit for our food to come out, but our server was very intentional about communicating with us about when our food would be coming out. It was understandable because they were busy and on a wait. We also ordered a carafe of mimosa which was definitely doing its job! Perfect for a post-night out brunch! Although it was busy inside, it wasn't too loud to where you can't hear what the people at your table are saying. I love it there and I will be returning next time I'm in Nashville!! read more

Frothy Monkey is a staple on 12 South and for good reason. Food and coffee are always solid and I'd say above average. We tried a bacon/egg/cheese bagel, brown sugar poptart, blueberry muffin, and a chocolate oatmeal cookie (yeah I've got a sweet tooth). The poptart was probably my favorite bakery item we had. Chalk full of icing on top, and a lot of brown sugar in the middle. The muffin was good, but didnt knock my socks off by any means. The cookie was solid and was the size of my face which earns some bonus points. The bagel was delicious and I felt it was similar to most if not a bit better with how crispy it was. The seating was great with our dog being able to hang outside with us and get lots of "cute dog" compliments. We will be back as we loved both the atmosphere & food. read more

Was out looking for a local cup of coffee and stumbled upon the Frothy Monkey and so glad we did. This location also has a restaurant side, but we just grabbed some coffee to go. There was a special, I think named Joanne, which was a cold press with blackberry and lemon. I know sound incredibly strange with coffee but it. was. amazing. It was super refreshing for the hot day on tap. Staff was very nice, answering all of our questions about flavors and what the best beans to take home would be. read more

My sister and I LOVED our coffee from Frothy Monkey during our trip to Nashville last year, so we wanted to come back this year. The coffee was as amazing as we remembered! My Havana Latte was absolutely delicious. Yes, there was a long line, but it just goes to show how great of a place it is! I absolutely love frothy monkey coffee and anytime I can I stop to get one. The iced havana latte hits the spot every time I order it. This was my first time coming to this location as I am not typically in the area. The only thing that sucks about coming to this location is the parking. The whole 12 south area is so incredibly busy all the time, so finding parking to run in to get a quick coffee is more time consuming than anything. However, this location has outdoor seating, I saw plenty of doggos sitting outside, and the service was quick. I got my coffee within 5 minutes of ordering and of course it tasted fantastic. read more

If you're considering visiting Frothy Monkey, save yourself the disappointment and look elsewhere. This place is the epitome of mediocrity, from start to finish. First off, the service is an absolute disaster. The staff appears as though they would rather be anywhere else. Imagine a group of people who seem allergic to friendliness. It took forever to even be acknowledged, and when they finally got around to our table, the server had the charm of a wet sponge. Not to mention the fact that they had zero knowledge about their own menu, making basic questions feel like a crime. And then there's the manager, who walks around wearing her baby in a carrier while waiting tables. While it's definitely a bold choice, it's not exactly the ideal vibe for a place that's supposed to exude any sense of professionalism. I get that people have kids and all, but when you're in charge of running a business, perhaps juggling a baby while managing a busy café isn't the best look. It's distracting, gross, and frankly, kind of unsettling to watch someone try to take orders with a baby spitting up and sneezing everywhere. It's as if the restaurant can't decide if it's a coffee shop or a daycare center. The food? A tragedy on a plate. I've been coming here for months pretty regularly, and I'm not sure what's happened in the last 2 weeks or so, but the quality of pretty much everything has significantly decreased. I ordered the farm breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sourdough and grits. The bread was hard as a rock (and was the tiniest little end piece), the eggs weren't really "scrambled" more like a egg patty, the cup of grits was barely filled half way and the bacon--if you could even call it that--was limp and rubbery. My wife is vegetarian so she just ordered some sides (roasted veggies, tomato soup, and a cup of fruit)- the veggies were a mix of burned and soggy and essentially flavorless. The fruit was cut in usually large chunks and the pineapple was all brown because it wasn't shaved down enough! The soup also was missing its usual flavor and creaminess and was utterly disappointing. You'd think for a place that prides itself on being a "trendy" coffeehouse, they'd be able to master the art of a simple breakfast. Apparently not. And let's talk about the coffee, which, for a cafe, is kind of important, right? Well, Frothy Monkey's coffee tastes like it was brewed with a sock. It's bitter, burnt, and downright undrinkable. You'd be better off hitting up the closest gas station and grabbing a cup of their mystery brew. If you enjoy overpriced food, lackluster service, and a general sense of disappointment, Frothy Monkey might just be for you. But if you're looking for an actual enjoyable experience, do yourself a favor and keep searching. You'll thank me later read more

Yep, Dr C with you again. Loved going to this place at first, but the snarky attitude of the hired help ruined for me. I'd give the details but someone keeps deleting my review so I won't waste my time. Um, I changed my mind. This happened about 3 weeks ago... Disappointed that I will no longer patronize this business. Been coming here for two years as my daughter is attending school nearby. I don't know what the problem is with the hired help but I've always been put off by the unfriendliness of the people working there. I don't know if they've been afflicted with the hipster wannabe attitude that is often found in this area or what. Sometimes have been better than others and we've always tolerated the unfriendly demeanor as we actually like the food and drinks. Not anymore. Last night we walked in at about 8:00 and were treated with the personality of a young "lady" who obviously either had better things to do or some type of chip on her shoulder. After picking up the one laminated menu located at the front door we proceeded to the order counter. Immediately upon approach I could see the scowl on the aforementioned employee's face. Figuring it was par for the course, I waited for the "Hi, how are you?" or "Hi, what can I get you?". What I got was a thousand yard stare and eventually an Icily muttered "Hi". My favorite spot in all of Nashville. I fell so madly in love with this place that I went home with a mug and coffee beans, and was THIS close to buying a t-shirt. I decided to save my money, but now I regret it. I'd wear a Frothy Monkey tee everywhere. Anyway, this is a really neat coffeeshop. I didn't know what to expect in terms of food, but I knew I wanted to give the coffee a shot. Upon looking at the menu, I was overwhelmed by just how many options they had! As a coffee snob, it is sometimes hard to please me, but their cold brew was insanely good. Highly, highly recommended! As far as good is concerned, I was really intrigued by their breakfast bun. It's a soft-baked, whole wheat bun with raisins and almonds, and it looked great. So when I got up to the counter, I asked if I can order a breakfast sandwich on one of these buns. The man went back into the kitchen to ask, and the girl looked insanely confused (almost disgusted by the question) but he came back and said we were good to go! Apparently nobody does that, so there's a pro tip for ya. I ordered egg whites, bacon, and avocado on the breakfast bun and was excited to see how it would turn out. The best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I say that statement confidently. The bun is grilled up so it gets extra soft and crumbly, so the only downfall was that it didn't hold up perfectly. If you go in with that expectation though, it will not disappoint you. The sweet bun paired with the salty bacon (thick, really tasty bacon for what it's worth) was just incredible. The café team was very welcoming and sweet, which made up for my previous visit. During my last visit, I had ordered their Turtle Latte, which I didn't quite enjoy. It seemed diluted in flavor and didn't match its description on the menu. So, this time, I decided to skip the coffee and try something different. I went for an Oat Milk Matcha. My steward suggested adding Lavender Honey, which sounded intriguing, so I took their advice. My friend ordered lunch for herself, and while everything took a bit of time to arrive, it was understandable given the busy atmosphere and the number of takeout orders they were handling. The seating at Frothy Monkey is quite comfortable, making it a great spot to hang out with friends or just relax. When my matcha finally arrived, it was worth the wait. Frothy Monkey is one of those places you'd walk right past if you didn't know better... kind of tucked away, charming, and quietly giving "local treasure" energy. It feels historic in the best way, like it's lived a few lives (old house shoe repair shop now a coffee spot that somehow makes you want to slow down and stay awhile). We didn't try any food this time, but based on the long line of people happily waiting for it, I'm taking that as a strong sign. The coffee, though? Legit. You can tell the beans are fresh, smooth, clean, and more "grown-up, sophisticated coffee flavor" than sugary coffee dessert. We ordered an iced caramel latte and an espresso martini (hold the cream) and both were excellent. The latte was balanced and smooth, and the espresso actually came through (not hidden under caramel). The espresso martini was the surprise star: they add an orange liqueur that gives it a little citrus lift, which makes it taste brighter and more interesting than the standard version. Naturally, we left with a bag of their espresso beans because now we're convinced we can recreate that martini at home. Will it be as good as Frothy Monkey's? Probably not. But we're going to try... you know, for science. If you like places with personality, history, and coffee that tastes like someone actually cares, this one's top of the list. read more

One of my favorite local coffee houses here in Nashville. Their breakfast options are out of this world and not to mention the designs the baristas make in the latte's are beautiful! I ordered a chai latte and I didn't want to drink it because it looked so pretty haha! But that is off topic, I've had breakfast and lunch there and both are amazing picks. The pancakes (the Bob), delicious and order a side of the turkey sausage and you won't be disappointed. If your going for lunch, make sure to try the Sadie or Sally salads- and for sandwiches go for the PMP! So I traveled abroad in Florence and this is one of the only sandwiches with Prosciutto in Nashville that I would even recommend. The light flavor and delicateness of the meat was nearly just how it was in Italy! There is outside seating which is another plus for Frothy. While it gets crowded inside and out regularly it is well worth the wait and battling the line. You will see locals, stars, and even arch a few tourists. read more

This place was so cute! My son and I stopped in for breakfast while in Nashville. He had the biscuits and gravy and I had a bagel sandwich with turkey sausage and avocado. Our drinks were drink coffee and OJ. Food-wise we have no complaints. We ordered inside and then selected a rail seat out on the front porch. They give you cute monkey-themed table markers to help them determine where to deliver the food. Our food arrived pretty quickly and everything was hot and tasty. While you don't really have a server, folks still check on you and clear your plates. They appear to have a great teamwork process in place. This seemed to be a hot spot for folks in the neighborhood and we saw lots of dogs which was an added bonus for my son. Overall we LOVED Frothy Monkey. Five stars for Frothy Monkey! What a gem; after being told there was a 90 minute wait at a nearby establishment, we ambled down 12th Ave S, and found this place quite by accident. The ambiance here is exactly what you want from a coffee shop, warm, inviting, and effortlessly cool without trying too hard. Our server Bella was great; attentive, friendly, and made recommendations that worked well for us. The people-watching alone is worth the visit, we spotted some Hollywood clientele blending right in with the locals. And the real star of the show? A beautiful mini-doodle named Candy who charmed the entire patio. The coffee is genuinely delicious, and the lox bagel is a must-order, fresh, perfectly balanced, and generously topped. I love going to Frothy Monkey to study. It's a great place to people watch. The coffee is great too. My only mishap was my fault. I ordered a Monkey Mocha thinking it was their speciality mocha. Of course it would be called a silly name like Monkey Mocha. I didn't really think about it until I sipped and realized the monkey in my mocha was banana flavoring. It was no bueno. I sent it back and asked for a basic mocha. it was my bad in not throughly thinking through the name, but it did not taste very good. Still gets 4stars all around in my book though. read more

I've always been a big fan of Frothy Monkey since I moved to Nashville. I like to go there when I have to get some work done outside the office and need a fun place to hang out with my laptop. I also really enjoy going there to grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine with friends and have pleasant conversation. The drinks are great, the food is good and the location is absolutely amazing! It can be a bit crowded at times so it's hard to get a tablet but if you do, it's amazing. Highly recommend it! read more

Cozy coffee shop with.... a staff that isn't snobby! Surprise right?! Great vibe inside. I've been here multiple times for coffee and assorted confectionery treats. Weekend mornings are little 'rough' as the brunch crowd tends to be pretty heavy and the usually ample seating somehow becomes limited. My only real qualm, the wifi thing. I LOVE Frothy Monkey. I go almost every Saturday and stand in a fairly long line for delicious coffee and sandwiches. Weekend mornings can get crazy and you might have to wait quite a while for food, but any other time is great! Has a great atmosphere for meeting a friend or getting work done if you like the coffee shop noise in the background. read more

Frothy monkey is a nice place to have breakfast and a cup of coffee, unfortunately you can't do that on weekends. The place is pack and it is very difficult to find a sit and enjoy breakfast. I wish that the place would get more tables for people to sit. read more

Clearly there was a miscommunication when checking in, as they were very demeaning when we asked for a high chair, naming that we claimed we didn't need one. I was not part of that conversation but it sounded like that was assumed rather than asked by the host/manager/dirty blonde white woman named Andie. When we asked for a high chair after being sat next to a table where the party was not taking up the whole table and there happened to be room for one, she proceeded to give us a lot of attitude saying that we said we didn't need one. We then asked our waiter (did not get his name, but he was kind and accommodating), he said he would try to get us some high chairs for the two babies in our party. We could overhear Andie saying to him, "they said they didn't need one but do whatever." Okay, not the nicest, but we were gonna let it slide. Then one of our party was scooting out of the booth after a group had left to go use the bathroom, and Andie walks over and says to her, "there's a party about to sit here." My friend says, "yeah, I'm just getting out to go to the restroom." She just assumed we were going to take up the whole table? Weird. Additionally, we were missing silverware, and when we asked another worker to bring us some, she came back and threw the silverware on the table knocking over bottles. And at the end, Andie had the audacity to ask us how everything was, and I responded that this was the worst service we'd ever received here, and her response was to look at the friend who signed up for a slot and said "sorry for the miscommunication but I was just going off of what he said". At the end of the day, we understood not having room for high chairs but it was all in the tone and attitude in which she responded that left us feeling like we were a burden to be there with our babies. We understand it's a small space, but had she just been kind to begin with, then things would have taken a much different turn. Needless to say, this is not a very family friendly restaurant so I urge young families to find somewhere else to eat. Hopefully management doesn't treat their employees as rudely as Andie treated customers, but I have a feeling that isn't the case. We won't be back. Editing to add the response they left on my husband's google review. Unless you like to pay to be demeaned and treated poorly, save your money and find another local restaurant who actually cares about their customers.
