I came back with customers a bit later and they enjoyed the biscuits and I learned there is actually a jalepeno-cheddar, daily or traditional biscuit. Make sure you get one you like. We had been to a ruby's in Navarre and loved it, so while in Nashville we decided that brunch here was a must. Parking behind the restaurant is free if you validate and the code is on the hostess stand. We were sat quickly and started with waters and beignets. I had a colada of some sort, it had beet juice in it and was earthy but refreshing. The beignets were the best! Hot and crispy, sweet and fluffy. I really loved the grilled cheese that had jalapeños, caramelized onion and some stewed pork. It was so savory and sweet in some bites while zesty and spicy when I'd get a jalapeño. It was perfection on the crusty buttery bread. My husband enjoyed his trio of egg Benedict, each one was fantastic in its own way. He really loved the fried green tomato. We've been regular customers at Ruby Sunshine in Nashville for quite a while, typically visiting about once a month. Unfortunately, over the last month, we've noticed a significant decline in both the quality of the food and the overall value. One of the biggest disappointments has been the menu changes. Items and sides that used to accompany dishes have quietly disappeared. For example, Benedicts no longer come with the side salad, leaving you with an even heavier, less balanced meal. The menu seems to be moving away from the fresh elements that helped set Ruby Sunshine apart. The beignets have also taken a noticeable step backward. Two weeks ago, they were especially disappointing--flat little discs that barely resembled the fluffy beignets we've enjoyed in the past. This week's version was somewhat improved, but still nowhere near the quality they consistently delivered just a month or two ago. On our most recent visit, the Hot Chicken & Waffles was overwhelmingly salty, making it difficult to enjoy. Combined with the shrinking portions, disappearing sides, and declining consistency, it's becoming harder to justify the price point. It's frustrating because we've genuinely enjoyed Ruby Sunshine over the years and have been loyal customers. However, the recent drop in quality has us seriously considering other brunch options in Nashville. We hope management takes notice and returns to the standards that made this restaurant a favorite in the first place. read more

We have been fans of Ruby Slipper since our first trip to New Orleans in 2017. We don't have Ruby Slipper this far north, in Nashville, but we do have Ruby Sunshine. Ruby Sunshine has a lot of Ruby Slipper's items. Lots of runny benny style eggs with various meats--shredded pork, fried chicken, shrimp. They also have a version with grilled tomatoes (though my tomatoes didn't seem grilled at all). Other options include French toast, omelets, migas, catfish, pancakes. I got the peacemaker, which is a fun option when you're torn between options. I got the cochon (apple braised pork) and Blackstone (smoked bacon and grilled tomato). Again, my tomato wasn't really grilled and could have used more seasoning. My pork was a little dry. But overall it was a good brunch dish. And my favorite part (always has been) is they do SUPER RUNNY eggs perfectly. I had a mimosa, which was fine. A note, they don't serve drinks with liquor before 8 AM (I work the night shift). The margarita I had after 8 AM was tart due to the grapefruit and hit the spot after a long day. It's a large spot, lots of tables and bar seats. Open with lots of windows and high ceilings. I was the first person at 7 AM, but more people came in during the two hours I was there. Wasn't crowded by the time I left at 9 AM though. Parking in back is your best bet. You can get one hour free with the code at the Ruby Sunshine host stand. Beyond that, two hours is just a little over six bucks. I suggest this over trying to find street parking, which is not easy. My server, Cody, was very attentive, but not smothering. He kept on top of my drinks and checked on my often, but not too often. My boyfriend and I went to Ruby Sunshine for brunch on a weekday early afternoon. When we got there we were very easily able to get a table and were soon greeted by the servers. I ordered their Smashburger. The burger itself was great. I love when burgers have a lot of veggies on them and the flavor was great. The burger comes with fries which were not my favorite since I thought they were too much on the crunchy side and felt more like potato sticks than French fries. Parking anywhere in Hillsboro village is more on the difficult side, but they have an attached parking lot right in the back. This gives you an hour of free parking and you have to pay for any parking in addition to an hour. If you do go I'd be sure to pay attention to the parking time since this area often can be pretty stringent with that. read more

I brought my mom and her boyfriend to Ruby Sunshine for brunch, since attending the yelp event i've been wanting to go back and try their food, it was a total hit. My mom ordered the Bananas Foster pancakes, and she could not stop talking about how good they were fluffy, perfectly cooked the bananas was not mushy not super sweet and topped with that warm, buttery sauce that makes you want to lick the plate clean. Everyone loved their dishes, my gf got the three little pig's omelet and everything came out fresh and flavorful. My momma bf got the biscuit and gravy with sausage links and fried chicken which was fire! The staff was friendly, attentive, she remembered me from the yelp event and remembered us take tater tots shots lol and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. The vibe inside is fun and relaxed, perfect for a slow morning with family. Came here as part of a Yelp event and so glad I did! Parked around the corner on a side street and walked around the corner since lot parking is not validated. Came on a Friday morning and the place was both hopping and had available booth seating, which was nice. Started with iced coffee and seasonal beignets. Coffee was great - thought it would be too small but ended the right size. Frankly the beignets with the sprinkles was a touch too sweet, but complimented the coffee well. For breakfast, had the shrimp and grits. Awesome! Second time I've had shrimp and grits and have become a fan. Hated them as a kid and have avoided them for too many years. These were so good that they made me rethink my childhood. Spicy, with a great flavor and texture combo that was really satisfying. G had the Bananas Foster French Toast (minus the raisins) and on her first bite, I could see the smile in her eyes. Service was superb. Atmosphere was awesome for a private meal / date morning. Typically crowded on the weekend, Monday is a great day to have brunch in Hillsboro Village. You have a chance to park. The parking lot behind the building has 1 hour free but make sure you register at the box or they will be sure to ticket. There is plenty of seating in Ruby Sunshine, and whether you sit at the bar or a table, there is a lot of whimsy in the decor. ie. ruby slipper with a fried egg, whisks for lamp shades. Fun. We were seated right away and given plenty of time to choose our meal and drinks. Friendly help from everyone. As it was my first time, I shared a trifecta of bennies to experience the most of the flavors. The St. Charles (chicken) was my favorite. My partner's family and I came here for the first time during their visit here. We came at around 8 am and it was surprisingly empty considering it's a breakfast spot. The ambiance of the place was really cute, their decorations were very southern and gave off a diner vibe. Service was great, our waitress was very sweet and friendly. She even took a family photo for us which was very sweet of her to do. We got some beignets which tasted yummy but, it was a little more crispier than we thought. This is not what it used to be. We've been here before and loved it, so I'll say upfront: this isn't a "never coming back" review -- it's a "please get it together" review. The food itself had some real issues. My bacon came out barely warm and so salty my tongue was tingling after every bite. The pancakes were bland, and my wife found many eggshells in her eggs -- not a great sign for a breakfast spot. The latte, to its credit, was genuinely good, and our server was warm and attentive throughout. But honestly, the flexibility -- or lack of it -- was the most frustrating part. I asked to swap pancakes for waffles and was told waffles are only available with the hot chicken. Okay, fine -- but that's a strange limitation for a breakfast menu. My wife asked for a berry topping that's literally listed on the menu to be added to her side of pancakes and was told flat out "there's no way we can do that." If something exists on your menu and the kitchen is capable of doing it, a computer limitation shouldn't be the customer's problem. A year ago we wandered in when the line at Pancake Pantry was too long, and we left very impressed -- easily rivaling the neighbors. That version of Ruby Sunshine was worth coming back for. Stopped in a while back for an early morning breakfast date with my girlfriend. We must've gotten there right around opening because there were very few people and they were light on wait staff. Our server was so sweet and helpful giving some really great recommendations. I settled on the fruity pebbles beignets and the vanilla cold brew. The food came out very quickly and was very good. It did start to get a little busier as we ate and service got a little thin, but our server still managed to make sure we were taken care of very well. I haven't always had the best experiences at ruby sunshine locations, but after attending an event here I was willing to give it another shot. Things seemed to be different and change implemented. Sadly, this was not the case. I actually just left this establishment. Upon entry the patio had maybe 4-5 tables that were occupied. On the inside there were quite a few empty tables, quite a few people waiting on food who seemed to be irritated by the wait based off overheard conversations, but we continued to wait at the hosts stand hoping to be greeted and seated. There was an employee talking to a couple as they were leaving who was visibly crying. She left the conversation, stood at the bar and started counting money. Still crying not sure what happened, but yeah. Still no communication with the numerous employees who walked past us several times. At this moment I was ready to go, but then we inquired about speaking with the manager. Manager comes out, whom I recognized from the event. We explained how we had been standing here for a while, but never addressed and it seems like everybody was in a panic and running around frantically. He proceeded to say that he had multiple people call out and they were short staffed. Very fair. I hear you sir. But communicating that with the guests you have standing in your doorway would be beneficial. We told him that effective and prompt communication about wait times or even being short staffed could prevent this. Before deciding to stay we asked how prompt the service would be considering what he disclosed. He stated they were looking at about 20 minute ticket times. We decided to stay and was sat a table close to the bar. A gentleman approached us with two waters and stated are yall ready. Mind you we just sat down. Hadn't had a chance to even look at the menu. We told him not yet. He proceeds with "well I was told to be prompt so I figured you were ready." *inserts passive aggressive body language* He goes by the name of Raleigh, Rolly or Riley. At this point I'm confused how a great conversation with the manager turned into a passive aggressive response from a server we never even communicated with in regards to this. As he walks away from our table he proceeds to approach the crowd of employees standing in the foyer area near the kitchen to mockingly tell them what he told us while inserting his *passive aggressive body language*. Of course, they laugh with him as if this is great practice and customer service. It continues when he walks inside the kitchen. Now, im assuming he's telling the same story because multiple employees start to look outside the window in our direction making this encounter very obvious what took place. In this moment I don't even want to eat here for the fear of what else could be next. We stopped one young lady with a blue shirt and short hair who was amongst those laughing and asked her to get, Ken, the manager for us. Ken comes out, and we explain the entire behavior since the conversation with him when entering. He stated I did tell him to be prompt but not be a ______. But again it was communicated with Ken that we weren't asking for prompt service, but prompt communication on if or when there was going to be a delay because of being short staffed. He claimed to have understood. I don't recall if an apology was actually granted. Nothing was offered to us. But we did end up leaving. If you have read this far, I do hope you have a better experience than I when trying this establishment. read more

I've tried this Ruby Sunshine a few times because it's close to home, and I'm really just not a fan. There's little to no ambiance in my opinion. It's kind of just a cold, crowded diner vibe with hard, uncomfortable seating to encourage customers to eat and leave. The service is nothing special. The few times I've eaten here, the food is room temperature and not that flavorful. I wanted to give the place a few tries before writing them off, and overall I've just been underwhelmed. I first came to Ruby Sunshine for an event and had a great experience, so I was excited to bring my dad back when he was in town. We decided to go for brunch on New Years Eve day around noon. When we first arrived there was a line out the door, but most tables were empty or were empty but waiting to be busted. As we were standing in line, someone up front said they were turning people away and we wouldn't be seated. It was 2 hours until they were closing for the day, so it seemed odd. We walked around for a few minutes trying to decide where else to go, but when we passed by again a new line was forming and no indication they were closing early so we got back in line. There were 2 groups (both parties of 2) in front of us one standing near the bar looking at menus and one right behind them waiting just behind the host stand area. After several minutes one of the staff came to the second group in line and said "I will seat the two of you". When the couple pointed out there was another group before them the staff member put a finger to her lips to make a "shhh" motion and shuffled them away to a table. Then the same staff member came back up to the front and purposefully avoided making eye contact or speaking a word to the first group in line or even addressing anyone else in line existence. There was no greeting, no telling people they were closing early, no we will seat you shortly - she just pushed through the line of people between tables. Eventually another staff member noticed the line and the host/person at the front blatantly ignoring everyone without any sort of greeting and quickly came and sat the 1st group that likely waited more than 20 minutes for a table and then promptly sat us as well. It was clear they were short staffed, but skipping people in line and not even greeting guest seemed less hospitable than I typically experience dining out. During my last visit I saw the sign on the wall that said "trying our staple or classics" and included banana pudding pancakes. When I asked if they had those, they said "not currently" which for being a "staple" or "classic" menu item seemed like it was going to be a safe order. I pivoted and we went with the beignets (seasonal flavor), I did a hot honey chicken biscuit, and my dad did the biscuits and gravy and also ordered a coffee. We got refills of water as our waitress was coming around and my dad asked for a coffee refill, and she said of course I'll be right back. Minutes later she passed us again and was like "I'm still coming with that" and then minutes later the beignets arrived and my dad asked again for more coffee - which arrived promptly after this request. We felt bad that they were so understaffed, so we brushed it off. The beignets with white chocolate and cranberries were absolutely delicious and served hot and fresh! Our food came out at some point after we finished the beignets and they had been cleared away. My food was fine, I wish it had a little more of the hot honey sauce but that's a personal preference. Without even asking ketchup was dropped off for my hashbrowns, which was nice! My dad was enjoying his biscuits and gravy and said it was great until he found a long black hair inside of it and wrapped around his fork. He didn't feel like finishing his plate after that so he just pushed it aside. Due to staffing issues no one came back to the table to check on us, so we couldn't bring it to anyone's attention that day and I didn't want to flag someone down because they were already so busy. Our plates were taken and a check brought over which we paid by QR code. As we sat there the 1st staff member kept sending groups away and the other staff members would see the lines and start seating people - so it was hit or miss if guest that arrived were getting a table or not. I acknowledge staffing around holidays and during peak sick season is always tricky but maybe management should have adjusted the hours more or had some managers helping fill with the staffing deficit because it seemed like the staff was burnt out and exhausted. I don't hold any staffing issues against the employees or even forgetting a coffee refill but the lack of acknowledging guests, seating people as you see fit, and finding a hair in one of our meals just didn't leave us wanting to rush back anytime soon. However, if anyone does visit sometimes soon I do highly recommend the beignets (I also tried the banana pudding version at the last event and those were just as great!) read more

I live and hour away. Whenever I come into Nashville I would already plan to come here to get the absolutely BEST Cobb salad EVER! I have been all over the country and I am a Foodie! Theor Cobb was the best because it had fried chicken on it that the breading was incredible and it also had hard boiled egg and candied bacon as well as served with their house made green goddess dressing. Originally it had blue cheese crumbles on it and the combination of all the flavors would explode in my mouth. Well I had an appt in Nashville booked out 3 months ago and the entire time I couldn't wait to have my salad! I come into RS order my salad to find out it is not the same and they are eliminating it in the next couple of days! No more green goddess dressing, no more hard boiled egg and the chicken was grilled ans bacon was regular bacon ! The new dressing is just ok . I am devastated! I asked about the fried chicken and he brought me out a side ans it isnt even the same. Whay made it different was they use to take their homeade biscuits and dry it and make it into the coating for the fried chicken . It was truly the best ! For breakfast I ordered the one tomato two tomato Benedict and WOW. For starters, I think green tomatoes or tomatillos are underused and adore how they were fried on this breakfast! The grilled red tomato kept the juiciness needed. The biscuit somehow didn't become soaked and instead was a pillowy home for all the toppings! I've worked in brunch restaurants and had sadly served many below par Benedict's during a Sunday brunch since it's always a rush. Despite being the same type of busy Sunday, the eggs were poached perfectly and my plate was well stacked.
