Stopped in here to meet with others while visiting Chattanooga with a friend. His friends had agreed on meeting here so we were up to check this place out. We arrived here for a late breakfast. Located inside the Choo Choo, this place had a large, airy hipster vibe to it. Plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs (and outside). The place was a bit busy but the service was still fairly quick. We all ordered our foods/drinks and found a table. I really loved that they had homemade kombucha. It was really good too!! I ordered the Architect omelette which also includes a side of toast. I liked the fact that you can customize the omelette toppings to your liking. The size of the omelette was larger than I anticipated; definitely very filling. All the ingredients tasted fresh and savory. My food was all satisfying! Their menu is broad with lots of foods and drinks to choose from. Some of the people in my table commented on how good their coffee was. I'll give that a try sometime during a future visit. We visited over the Labor Day weekend on the suggestion of a family member. The restaurant is part of the Chattanooga Choo Choo historic hotel. They are doing a fairly good job of Covid precautions, limiting diners inside and there is a patio area. To see the menu, you are encouraged to use a mobile QR reader that is provided at each table but it did look like there were "real" menus available if needed. The staff all wore masks but I did not see any gloves being worn nor hand washing in the coffee prep/take out area. There was a hand sanitizer station at the hostess area. We each had a coffee and the creamer was brought out in shot glasses. It was a bit lumpy and very hard to pour into the coffee. We also had water and each time we needed a refill, a new glass was brought to the table. My husband's food was awesome as he is more adventurous. Mine was standard fair but the biscuit was cold. And even though it was breakfast, my husband ordered the banana pudding as it came highly recommended. It is huge, so it can easily be shared between a couple of people. One of the best things about the Frothy Monkey is the touchless checkout option...LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!!! Overall, this is a great option if you are in Chattanooga. If you lean heavily toward the conservative end of the spectrum or are easily offended by other viewpoints, you may want to go elsewhere. We placed a reservation through "Open Table" I was surprised how seamless it was. We walked in and there was a table reserved for us! The atmosphere is great, coffee shop/quaint unique cafe. The wait staff was amazing! Katherine was so great and attentive! The food was the best part! It is cafe prices for upscale food. The chicken gnocchi dish had a broth like cream sauce that made the dish light when paired with the gnocchi and protein. It had a very savory flavor that had me coming back for more! The Brie appetizer was so good that me and my wife were fighting over who got the last bite! Their drink menu is fantastic as well, great selection of local beer! We will definitely be back! Great location! Inside the old choo choo train station. Fancy and lovely staff. You walk in and go to place it order, don't wait for anyone to seat you. I had the matcha latte and it was good and yummy too much orange zest for me but the lady changed it and re did and without the orange zest and it was better. First off, this place is located within the Chattanooga Choo Choo which is a cool place on its own. Very cool atmosphere with a large bar to sit at for drinks & happy hour or even just to watch the baristas at work. If you're really into watching the magic, sit up stairs where you can really overlook the bar and watch them make their coffee art. Bar, small table and community style seating available. I always love an Open kitchen as well so you can see how it all comes together. Straw-less waters provided (yay! Save the sea turtles!). House made syrups and pastries. Coffee / parafanelia / shirts for sale. Servers were all friendly and inviting. Ok let's get down to the good stuff- The biscuit on the side and jam were nice but nothing more to really say there. The lattes here, however, were great, period. Interesting flavors and goodness available; would've liked to have tried more. The bad stuff (aka the reason I took off a star)- the omelets were SO SALTY. At first my wife thought she just had extra salty sausage but a quarter of the way into mine (meat-free) I found it was also super salty. Not sure if the chef was just heavy-handed that morning or if they're using some kind of preserved egg beaters (we did request egg whites); additionally some of the fillings did not seem as fresh which was disappointing. I have to say, i was impressed at the Mac-Daddy size of these omelets, but it needed fresher add-ins and a severe salt reduction. Overall, if I lived locally I would definitely return to try out a few other foodie options and see if they can meet the same expectations as they do with their delicious lattes. We were traveling from Wisconsin to southern Florida and happened upon this coffee shop/cafe in the mid afternoon of 8/20/2022. I ordered a seltzer water to accompany my omelette . My friend ordered an Irish Coffee, everything bagel and their daily offered spread of rosemary, bacon and cream cheese. The Irish coffee arrived and was room temp, she ordered hot. When I asked about my seltzer water, our waiter Damien pointed to a glass and breezed away to chat with another of the waitstaff. My glass contained the same water that was delivered when we were seated, room temp tap water. My friend asked to have her Irish coffee warmed up & Damien was offended saying it was hot. The mug wasn't even warm to the touch. He said it would be remade. The table next to us ordered 2 chilled Irish coffees and I swear they were delivered my friends original coffee. The second Irish coffee came out a little warmer, by this time it was a moot point to try to get what was ordered. Our meals were so disappointing. The bagel was stale and dry, they served it with strawberry cream cheese not what was ordered. The omelette contained the onions I asked to have omitted and was room temperature. I understand it's hard to get good help, but when the waitstaff laughs about the incorrect order and then makes excuses, the management needs to reevaluate their hiring and training procedures. Attended Harry Potter trivia night here. It was a lot of fun but with no table service the lines were crazy long. I'm in a wheelchair currently because of knee surgery and there was no menu to bring back to the table with the event specials on it so my friend just got me an iced tea, which was really good. I'll try it again at a less busy time and have food. Perhaps next time there is an event they can try table service so people can eat on time. Cute place inside! Can't hang out because of Covid. Very limited parking but I found an unloading spot up front just so I could run in. Got the rosemary honey latte since it was recommended along with the bagel sandwich. Neither were my favorite. The rosemary honey latte was good, but I'm not sure about the kind of espresso they use, had an acidic/bitter flavor to it. I usually don't get any sweetener or flavor in my latte but I'm glad I did because I'm afraid the bitter coffee taste might have made it undrinkable. This place has such amazing potential with location and history but really falls short with food, professionalism, and wait time. While I definitely understand restaurants are short handed, it was 15+ minutes for coffee. Our server was great and attentive but our food was mediocre at best. We were sat right next to the kitchen and the chefs behind us were having personal conversations that were probably not supposed to be heard from customers. Lots of cussing and inappropriate comments. At this point breakfast came out and mine was cold. Like out of the refrigerator forgot to be cooked cold. We really wanted to like this place. Decor is super cool. Staff is nice. Fact is, the food just isn't very good. They claim that the bagels are homemade and tout their quality but it was stale at best. It had to have been a day or two old. My wife's potato's were bland and the kids did not care for the pancakes. They ate the same thing at Ruby Sunshine yesterday and theirs were much better according to them. I was also put off that the orange juice was served in a bottle. It took away from the personal touch of the restaurant. I could have bought that bottle anywhere. The space and location will demand a lot of overhead. I find it hard to believe that they will survive long term with the underwhelming culinary experience it's patrons will experience. read more

The food we ordered (Avocado Toast and Omelette) was very good and the portions sizes were superior to other places. The one thing that was disappointing was the time it took to get our drinks (Hot Chocolate and Cappuccino) which came after e we were already finished with our food because the barista (send there only was one to handle the Sunday morning shift) couldn't get them done faster. In the old days that would have resulted in the beverages being on the house, here I had to ask for a discount. Service was good, all servers were very nice and apologized several times for the slow beverage service. A nice touch would have been if they had offered a coffee to cover the time until the other beverages arrive. But overall a very pleasant experience in a nice ambience. read more

Frothy monkey is located next to the choo choo trolley ticket center. The building is beautiful, and frothy monkey has indoor patio seating and upstairs and downstairs seating. The area is very spacious and beautifully but simplistically decorated. Due to the location of frothy monkey, parking May be hard at times but they do have a parking garage nesarby which only costs $4 for all day parking, and has a lot directly across the street as well. Street parking is far and few especially during working hours. Frothy may be my new favorite study spot because of how much room they have, and yay to free WiFi. I chose to study upstairs overlooking the lower level and it was great. Frothy monkey was busy for a Wednesday afternoon but i overheard that it's also finals time for the college students so it was understandable. Frothy has a seasonal menu which i plan to try soon, and many speciality drinks. They also carry a decent size breakfast and lunch menu. I ate prior to coming so i opted for their turtle latte with soy milk. I've seen a lot of pictures of it on yelp so i thought it was a worthy pick. The drinks here are on the pricey end, with a small latte being over $5. It was good quality and for the time i was planning to be there i didn't mind. At frothy monkey you are given a number if u dine in and they will bring you the drinks. My drink was deliciously crafted and with great artistry in my foam. As a Nashville resident that travels often to Chattanooga (my mom and stepdad live there), it was interesting to see that Nashville's Frothy Monkey was expanding to Chattanooga. Nashville has a few locations and my enjoyment of them vary (the 12South location is too busy and you can't park, but the downtown location and Nations location are pretty nice). This Frothy Monkey is good in certain ways - the food (same menus as Nashville) is good and varied. Everyone from my vegan mom (bagel with tofu and avocado) to my carnivore grandfather (eggs, bacon, potato, and rye toast) were pleased with the food. And the coffee, as always, was very good. It's also a beautiful location. It has two floors. And it's very open and bright. (Tons of outdoor seating as well, but it was quite chilly in November, and no one was outside.) It's also connected to the Choo Choo, so you can walk straight in and take a look at the old train station after your meal. However, our first visit to the Chattanooga location was tainted by the sheer crowds! It was PACKED. No tables (even though it's a very large space) were available, so we had to stalk groups getting up. LONG wait to order. (You order at the counter and they bring the food to you at your table.) And a pretty long wait for food. To be fair, it's quite new, it was near a holiday (around Thanksgiving), and Chattanooga was having a marathon or 5k or something downtown. So it's possible that this crowd was unusual and may never occur again. It's possible that this was the largest crowd that will ever be inside this restaurant. But I won't know until I go again, and this trip was really tainted by the number of people inside. (Also, because it's in the Choo Choo building, you'll have to find street parking a little off the main streets and walk or pay to park.) I would try it again certainly. But if these crowds are the norm, I'd probably pass on going for a third time. The food is good, but nothing out of the ordinary, and Chattanooga just has so many places to eat now! read more

There are many things to like about Frothy Monkey. There coffee drinks are very good and there are many choices in what type of specialty coffee drink you might like. I had the Mexican Hot Chocolate with a shot of espresso and it was so good. Dark, rich chocolatey flavor with that side note of the espresso. It definitely rev'd up my day. Went to brunch with some girlfriends and we ordered mimosas. They were kind to make a carafe for us and we ended up having two of those. For food, I ordered the Farm Breakfast and it was really good. Eggs were cooked perfectly (over-easy) with a very nice runny yolk. The bacon is delish (even though I ordered sausage - I didn't mind) and the rosemary potatoes were good too. Maybe a little heavy on the rosemary. The multigrain bread was so good. Nutty and soft and chewy. I also ordered the pancakes to share with the table. They were good, nice flavor, but pretty flat. More like a crepe than a pancake. I personally like a nice fluffy pancake. The space is really cool. Lots of tables, though the day we went it was super crowded and we ended up at the very last table, which turned out to be a benefit. The acoustics in the place are awful. Very load and every sound echos and bounces around the place. Multiple that by the approximately 60 or so people in the place and it's just a loud cacophony of noise. It bothered a couple of my friends. Luckily where we were siting, the ceiling was lower and it wasn't so echo-ey. It's also sort of confusing with the whole, order at the front but then they bring your food to the table. The lines can get pretty long. Our food did come out pretty quickly though and it was nice and hot and fresh. I definitely want to come back and try more coffees and/or cocktails. Overall it was a good experience. read more

This is a sweet spot to stop by if you're in the mood for something better than Starbucks! We stopped by the Frothy Monkey to get some tea late in the evening. This place has awesome workers! Everyone is very friendly, open and kind. We got a lavender tea, which was very delicate, along with a slice of cherry pie. The cherry pie tasted fresh, sweet, yet slightly tart. The cherries were not over cooked or boiled in the filling. It was the last slice for a reason. We also got a vegan berry crumble with a Himalayan tea. The tea had a distinct earthy taste to it. We asked for some honey on the side & their honey was just heavenly! It's raw so it's best eaten fresh rather than wasted in hot water since the nutrition properties decrease. I was excited to experience this Monkey, as I had a great experience in Nashville. This one was very disjointed. We ate in the restaurant. It took over 15 min to get one coffee and they forgot the other one. The "server" reported they were only making espressos and the Americana would just have to wait. What? Then our food comes out and one of our party had a sandwich which comes with chips. They brought it out later and when we asked where the chips were, the "server" had to get a manager. My girlfriend and I tried this place and had THE WORST breakfast experience. We're from Nashville and have only heard great things about the Frothy Monkey there. My girlfriend even went there and enjoyed it. However, we did not feel the same towards the Chattanooga location. We waited 20 minutes which is perfectly fine since we don't mind waiting. When we were seated we realized that the seating situation was the most uncomfortable we have ever felt. The stools were so small that I don't see how anyone could fit on it and the table was barely bigger than the stool. There was no where to put our bags and coats which was frustrating from the start. It took forever for a waitress to see us and when she did she was not the friendliest and acted almost annoyed to be there. The worst part of the experience was the coffee. I ordered an iced caramel latte and when I got it I already knew it would be bad from the look. It was solid white as if I just ordered a cup of milk. It tasted like sweet milk with not even a hint of espresso. We waited for over an hour for our food and noticed that people who were seated after us had their silverware, food, and were done before we ever got our food. When it finally arrived we still didn't have silverware. Our waitress brought it, not even wrapped, and set it on our table having to move our food and drinks in order to set it down. We both got the bacon, egg, and cheddar bagel and it was just average. Nothing exceptional. I also got the donut muffin and my girlfriend got the coffee cake. It was so dry that it crumbled to pieces and just did not have great flavor. For a meal to cost $45 and be the worst meal I have ever had is very frustrating. And then to have to go to Dunkin right after to buy a coffee because this one was horrendous was ridiculous! It definitely felt as though the customers who walked in to get coffee took the priority over the sit down customers. Overall, this experience has convinced me to never go to any Frothy Monkey location and I will probably be making my breakfast at home for the forseeable future! Though, I will say thank you to Frothy Monkey for a great laugh.
