It's a rare occasion when this place is open and It's in need of some maintenance. It's a little pricey, but for everyone with their one star reviews saying your better off going to McDonald's - you people are gross!! Only a slob would prefer a fake meat concoction from McD's over a freshly made hamburger just to save a few bucks. The food is well worth the price! The service was extremely friendly! The only reason it doesn't get a full 5 stars is that they do not accept credit cards and they are rarely open. read more

During out visit, we stopped at a cute little park with a stream while we waited for my daughter to get in from Utah. We saw this place across the street and since it was so hot that day (101), thought we'd get a treat. We got ice cream in a cup...it was delicious! Friendly service. They're back! I've been stopping here for their wax-paper wrapped hamburgers and chocolate-dipped ice cream cones since the 70s and they've never disappointed. I was so saddened to see them closed for many years in the 2010's, and a few times before that, but they always come back in the same iconic red-painted and wood building. The burgers, fries, and shakes are very good!! The burger is very tasty, and the fries are crispy and seasoned well. The shake was my favorite part. It tastes like a real milk shake. I ordered strawberry, and it had real strawberries. My only complaint is that the burgers are about $5 each. Kind of expensive for a burger. Nice place to try when traveling through town. read more

We were looking forward to an ice cream after hiking all day. This place says they close at 8p, we showed up a little after 730p on a holiday weekend when you'd think they would want some business from all the people in town but they had already hung the "Closed" sign in the door. I then saw some employees inside and asked through the door if they were closed, to which they replied they were. We were totally bummed! I've seen other small businesses get ready to close on time but to not serve us or even ask if we wanted something quick and easy when they really aren't supposed to be closed for another 25minutes really f'ing blowed! read more

Food Here is LEGIT! No reason on your trip up or down 395 to stop at any corporate fast food places like McDonalds, Carl's Jr, or anywhere as long as Frosty Chalet is open. I've see the building many times but never stopped before. Burger was AWESOME, fries cooked perfectly, shakes are as good as In & Out. In fact this place would compete with any In & Out or other top end burger joint. Clean too! Obviously well managed. Saw the owner there making sure everything was done right and customers were being well taken care of. Now I have two great places to eat in Owen's Valley; Frosty Chalet and Copper Top BBQ. Look the food is great and old school but call before you plan it as being a stop on your road trip. Out third time through Lone Pine in the past 18 months and once again they are randomly closed. Sign says "Covid Testing update on 08/08/21", we'll it's 08/13 and still closed. Not sure what's going on, all the other restaurants in Lone Pine are open. read more

Found this place and decided to come instead of the nearby Carls Jr. No line, ordered double cheeseburger, regular cheeseburger and some french fries. Was so hungry that the food tastes pretty good; and they were kind enough to give us a tiny ice cream cone (vanilla flavor) to our toddler. :) Friendly folks and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. This place is not very good. Save your money. 38$ for two burgers two fries a shake and a coke. The fries were so salty you can hardly eat them. She proceeds to talk about how I am infecting others by not having it on when I was already wearing it, so I said I'm not sick, so I took it off and walked out. My friends and I were on our way home from our yearly "Guys Trip" when we made a pit-stop here at Frosty Chalet. It was a hot day, but it didn't matter because their burgers, fries, and onion rings were amazing. They might have gone a bit crazy on the seasoning salt on the sides but better than none at all compared to most other places, anyway it was still good. Saw this place on a YouTube blog and couldn't wait to drive the 2 hours to try it on our way up to June Lake. It's a cute little burger/once cream joint on highway 395. Due to covid you can't eat at their outside area but there is an awesome park across the street with benches and a small little creek going through it to enjoy your food. They also sell table cloths for $1 that you can use in the park which was nice. Staff was so friendly and welcoming. Now let's get to the food!!! The burgers are fresh made to order and were cooked to perfection. The thousand island sauce made us compare them to in and out but these were bigger. They were so good and the fries, let's just say they put seasoning on them that will make you want yours and anyone else's on the table! They have a simple menu with burgers, a hot dog, corn dog, chicken strips, taquitos and fries. They do not sell combo meals so everything is priced separately. After the food make sure you get some yummy soft serve which you can have dipped in chocolate or just with sprinkles like my kids had. They are very generous with the amount they put on the cones so be careful ordering the large for small kids. They also have several flavors for malts and shakes and sundaes. Would love to make the 2 hour drive again to get some lunch then drive up to Mt Whitney waterfall which is only about a 20-30 min drive up the mountain from here. read more

I cant believe that I have actually been coming to this joint since the 70's in my memories, but its true. I literally have eaten here for over 3 decades. And I still like and come back here... =) I recently stopped by here with the munchkin on a Mammoth weekend getaway. We grabbed some grub for the rood on our way. The munchkin had a corndog, I got a burger, and we shared some rings. But what really made the munchkin super excited was the milkshake. I had a sip of her shake and it was tasty as can be... not too thick but not thin and runny. Seriously most places cant make that happen. My burger was really good, but it was a bit smaller than I had hoped. None the less, the lettuce was great the pickles were tasty and yummy yummy cheese. It was all that I had hoped for and maybe then some =) The munchkins corndog was pretty much like all other dogs... heavy batter with a multimeat dog. The ORs had been frozen. Overall though i really like this place. They are clean, nice, have good service, are quick, and have clean restrooms. Both the munchkin and I noticed when we had to make a pitstop while waiting for our grub. Give it a whirl if you dare... I will be back guaranteed. read more

Look like a little nothing place, kinda sketchy even, along Hwy 395. But I saw "Ice Cream", I hit the breaks, swerved, did a U-ie, a pulled right in like I meant to do it. Super cute inside. A little rustic perhaps, but 6 tables with 50's music and matching decor and smiling faces put a big fat smile to mine. A soft-serve vanilla ice cream, chocolate dipped was in my near future ($2.99). If you're a fucking cheapskate that drives a POS car with no AC in 105° heat, GO TO CARLS JR, they stay in business because of volume sales. Unfriendly guy at service window. $17.25 for a double burger, fries and a shake. On top of that they had the nerve to ask .25 for a water cup. Even though I was eating in, food came out in a "to go"bag. Not a fan of the seasoning on the fries. Burger was pretty good and milkshake was average. Only thing good going for this place is the retro building, even though a lack of seating forces you to sit outside in the blazing heat of Lone Pine. Will go to McDonald's next time (at least they have wi-if, something I need when I come out of the mountains), or the great taco truck in town (would have gone there in the first place, but closed on Sundays) read more

Delicious sundaes! I like that the ice cream is cold and unmelted. This can be a challenge in a busy ice cream place, especially in the hot Californian climate when it's 38 degrees Celsius. The staff are very friendly and service is quick. The only draw back is that the sundaes were slightly expensive, coming in a $4.75 before tax. A great place and nice alternative to the corporate heavy weights across the street. We'll return during next year's trip! read more

Looks well taken care of outside but no sense of pride concerning frosty treats. Don't expect to have all flavors available & don't expect to mix shake flavors or have it decently flavored; the owner says his staff can't get it right. So why not train them? One would expect better, especially for a small town with the owner taking orders. During Covid, patio closed but the park across the street has plenty of space & shade.
