Unfortunately, the dishes we ordered fell short of expectations. I ordered the veggie burger, which was served with a side salad that was completely wilted. Furthermore, the veggie patty itself was significantly undercooked. My partner ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings, but the onion rings arrived overcooked and noticeably burnt. ​The Service: What entirely redeemed our evening was our outstanding waiter. He was incredibly welcoming and personable, creating an immediate connection with us. He shared the wonderful news of recently becoming a father and showed us his baby boy, which gave our first visit a remarkably warm and personal touch. We were on our way up to Mammoth Lakes and Lone Pine has the best selections of restaurants and this may be the best of the bunch! We really enjoyed a rest here at this memorabilia covered restaurant with pictures all over the walls and something to look at everywhere you go. They were really really busy so the food took a bit but was fantastic and I ended up not even having dinner it was so good! When visiting, make sure you take the time to walk around slowly and check some of this stuff out, some really amazing things. Can't wait to stop by next time I pass through town! read more

Oh My! How can you miss on breakfast? Came in a few weeks ago on the road home for breakfast. There were 2 individuals in the party somehow the young woman who was servicing our table forgot to take my friend's order. I had to get up and chase her down and in the order. It took forever to see breakfast, over 30 minutes I had a pancake which was cold, and hard. My friend received their food late and cold. The only positive was the bacon. I'd pass up on the location and hit up McDonald's at least your food order would be taken, and it would be hot! read more

Cool stop for food that has some cool photos of some people who have been here. The employees were super nice and personable which I really appreciate. I have eaten here 2 times. Both times were for lunch and both were good experiences. The restaurant is very rustic and nostalgic. There is movie memorabilia all over the walls showing some of the 300 plus movies that were filmed here by the 1950s. Our server was polite, and he told us about their family restaurant. He was asking what we were going to do and see, and how we liked it so far. He even made a few suggestions. He did mention that it was a small town of about 2000 people. The menu has plenty of lunch options to choose from but I was interested in the grilled cheese and french fries. I don't get to eat grilled cheese much, and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remember. Their grilled cheese on sourdough did not disappoint. It was golden, warm, crunchy and tasted great. The french fries were exactly like I like them, golden, warm, delicious. The other time I ate there, it was extremely busy during the NFL playoffs in January, and I believe there is only 1 bathroom, so there was a line. We just finished another 60 mile trek to Mount Whitney and purposely stayed one more night in the backpackers camp so that we could get breakfast here. It was a great decision, just like 10 years ago, the service and the food were incredible. We had a group of 9 this time, meals ranged from omelets to chicken fried chicken. Everything was perfect. The two servers were talking while the bus person sat people, got them drinks, and took some tables order. Make the bus person a server, at least he wants to be there! Food is fair. We were pleasantly surprised with the MT Whitney Restaurant. My wife had the Philly and I had the Tuna melt and we both opted for onion rings. The Philly was average but there was something about the Tuna melt that I really enjoyed. I would definitely recommend it. Onion rings were nice and crispy and not really greasy at all. Our experience at Mount Whitney Restaurant was incredibly disappointing and, quite frankly, unsettling. The four of us walked in, my friend is Black, my husband is Hispanic, and we were met with a cold, unwelcoming attitude. The staff seemed very inconvenienced by our presence and told us to "find a seat." We sat down and waited. A group of four white women came in after us, were seated near us, and immediately received service. We, on the other hand, were completely ignored. No water, no menus, not even a greeting. The waitress walked past our table to serve the other group and never looked our way again. After sitting there for about 15 minutes without any acknowledgment, we decided to leave. I don't know what else to call this experience other than discriminatory. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Go down the street to The Grill, much better service. read more

Listen, we came to Alabama Hills Cafe initially but between a who-knows-how-long of a wait to just place an order and a staff who didn't give two , we decided to venture to somewhere else and came to Mt Whitney. There was no wait, plenty of seating with our two kids, a friendly waitress who took good care of us and actually tasty burgers! Came here with a friend after rock climbing and a long day in the car. We got here around dinner time and there were many open tables. My friend liked the ambiance. Fairly typical fare for diner type food- burgers, sandwiches, fries, onion rings. I ordered a burger and fries and salad - which was not very memorable and rather dry. My friend got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I was in lone pine to charge my cyber beast at the Tesla superchargers so I went for a short walk and stumbled on the mt Whitney restaurant. I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and it was delish. I got a salad instead of fries to stay on the healthy side. The ranch dressing was homemade and told could taste the difference. It was so salty and creamy and good hint of dill, pepper, buttermilk yum. The restaurant had a hometown vibe and everyone was friendly. Thank you my Whitney restaurant. House salad was basically lettuce and croutons (with a single cherry tomato). I would NOT get the Deep Fried Corn on the Cob. Just a half cob and nothing really different. Honestly shocked this place has 3 stars overall. Perhaps it was coming off trail and my caloric deficiency/ exhaustion but this food was EXCELLENT. Our waitress Tina was very attentive, quick with drinks, food, and anything else we needed. She even let us try soup of the day. Dessert was also incredible. Place wasn't very crowded when we went so had no problem sitting at the table for a bit after the meal and soaking up the ambiance. I've been to Mount Whitney Restaurant twice now and both times were lackluster at best... This time around it was after a two night backpacking trip to summit Mount Whitney. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday post-summit and enjoyed watching football while relaxing, talking about our adventure, and eating our food - once it came out. Our waitress appeared more interested in also watching football than tending to tables but oh well, it is what it is. What left a worse taste in my mouth was when I ordered a root beer float and she responded with disgust. She then apologized and informed us she went to a party (something about a wedding?) the night before... not my problem. You're at work now, should have acted like it. Food was alright. It goes without saying that this isn't an ideal place for folks with food restrictions or allergies. Not a lot of options here... Vegetarians and vegans, they don't have a simple red sauce + pasta. Everything has meat, cheese or butter. I ordered a salad with no cheese, added oil & vinegar as dressing. Croutons also have cheese. This place isn't my first pick. I wasn't even able to cobble together the side of avocado + bread option as I do at most diners. If you have no food restrictions, this place is still only "ok". Per the meat eaters, there wasn't anything to write home about regarding the burger or any of their salad which all include meat.
