    Ice cream

This simple old-timey business is located on the north western part of Lone Pine as you're driving through towards Bishop. The food is delicious and made to order. Our burgers and fries were super hot, and you can request to have your ice cream after you're done with your meal! The staff is friendly and kind. The outdoors area is well-gated and we felt safe letting our son run around and play while we ate. This is a cash-only business.

Cute mom & pop shop, right off the main road. Can't go wrong with the chocolate dipped soft serve! Crispy seasoned fries, made to order. Bring your dollas, cash only!

This is kind of a tough rating for me. It's good in that the food comes out in a reasonable timeframe, the burgers and fries are fresh made, and if you're doing soft server that's even faster. The outdoor seating is a few good quality metal picnic tables, a majority of them under awnings/shade, and parking is sufficient. The minuses are, they're cash only, and the food honestly is nothing special. So as pleasant as it is to support a local restaurant it's also hard for me to say I would make this a regular stop up and down this stretch of US-395.

Driving up the 395 towards Mammoth and needed lunch. We try to support local, family owned business's when we can so we decided to give this place a shot. The staff was friendly. Outside dining area and ordering area was clean. They had hand sanitizer and staff was wearing masks. Prices are a little high for 2 basic burgers, 1 with cheese and onion rings. $20.20. No drinks. Burgers needed seasoning for sure. Onion rings were delicious and hot. Not terrible but nothing more than basic. They look to have a fun, kid friendly menu with sundaes, soft serve and milk shakes.

Charming roadside burger and ice cream joint. Cash only! There is no indoor seating but a nice grassy area with picnic tables next to the restaurant (and it's dog friendly). Burgers and ice cream are the standouts.

Leave southern Orange County in the morning, head up the old 395 up to Mammoth and about the time you reach Lone Pine, you'll find yourself hungry for lunch. Lucky for you, after miles of open fields and shabby farmhouses, you'll come upon Frosty Chalet. Frosty has the appearance of an old style woody architecture with a grassy area and picnic benches available for mild weather. Lots of parking is available behind the building and along the front. Prices reflect the cost for a glimpse and taste of hamburgers from days gone by. Slightly higher than you'd expect at today's fast food joints. Double cheeseburgers go down easily after a long drive. Order a side of fries to top it all off. It feels good to walk about take in some fresh air, stretch your legs, and enjoy a flavorful chocolate malt. Make Frosty your next rest stop on your way up north!

I had a coffee shake- best thing I've had! Kids had a soft serve swirl with sprinkles that they thoroughly enjoyed!!!

It was around 1pm and I was still looking to have breakfast, but my hubby was looking for lunch. This place seemed to offer both and the reviews were good too! We were able to park right up front. They have an outside patio in the front area as an option to dine at. It was definitely a hot day in the high 90's, so it wasn't an option for us to sit out there today. Although they did have misters on which was a nice touch. We walked in to a busy place and there were only two tables available, so we sat down right away. It took a while for us to get our menu's, but we can see it was busy. Our server was really nice and once we ordered our food, it was served pretty quickly! I ordered the Ironman Scramble with the Cheddar Jalapeño bread which the bread was so delicious! I also ordered a refreshing Peach Iced Tea. My husband ordered the Alabama Hills Bacon Cheese Burger and a Strawberry Lemonade. We were both very happy with our meals and even ordered a Cinnamon Roll to go! All the baked goods looked amazing too.

She came back and said in fact they don't serve Margarita's. She said she had no idea, and that she didn't even live in the area. What does where she lives have anything to do with anything? I don't want to be mean, but ?? I ordered the 1/2 rack of these "Famous Ribs." My hubby the Flat Iron steak. We asked for salads as the choice instead of soup. We wait and wait...starving after having hiked all over the Alabama Hills. It is customary to get the salad ahead of time, but this young lady was doing other things. Suddenly after 15 min. we got our meals with no salad. She was getting ready to walk away when I asked about the salads. She went and got them not really concerned about it, and was not really understanding. So onto these ribs! I'm traumatized by these things that were so overcooked and dry. What on earth was done to these things? It seems they were boiled, then frozen, then defrosted, and microwaved? Who knows!! I do know this. I have been making ribs for a long time. For the love of God you don't need to kill the pig 15 times! My hubbies Flat Iron Steak was alright. Not completely hideous. Needless to say, there are not many choices in the Lone Pine. This is not a choice I would ever venture to again if in the area.

Whitney. We had looked at the menu online and had an idea of what we wanted in advance, nope. Out of: the elk, all lamb, trout, and the filets- we ended up with two orders of top sirloin. I had mine with the mushrooms and my husband had his with the green peppercorn sauce- I guess you can still have the sauces even though the meat is gone. The steaks were ok, I definitely did not get what I wanted and probably wouldn't have stayed if I had known just how bad it would be. I did see others walk out, and people that ordered after me were not happy. There's a really easy way to fix this- daily paper menus with what you actually have. Maybe even update them as things run out. Just cross stuff out. Let the guests know up front. If I had known how limited it was, I wouldn't have ordered a drink and eaten the tasty bread roll. Service wasn't that great either- the person that brought the drinks was very friendly, but otherwise our waiter was pretty inattentive. I had the Bees Knees which I enjoyed, I ordered a glass of red to go with the steak, and that didn't show up till I was well into my meal. Weirdly, I would give this place another shot, but would order before even sitting down. That way when I am told that all I can get is a steak that I'm not that interested in, I'll go somewhere else. Or eat at the bar, have a decent drink and leave when you see how dire the menu selection is.

She politely tried to place her order and explained she has allergies and needed a few items removed from her burger. Instead of being helped, she was dismissed and barely given the chance to speak. When her food came out, it had cheese on it--something she specifically asked to be removed due to an allergy. When she brought it to their attention, the employee snatched the burger from her hands and threw it in the trash in a very rude manner. My daughter also witnessed them carelessly throwing the ingredients onto the bun while remaking her order, which was very concerning given her allergy. When the corrected order was ready, it was simply slid across the counter without a single word. I went inside to address the situation and asked to speak to a manager, only to find out the person who treated my daughter this way was the manager on duty an older Hispanic male. This is completely unacceptable. No child or any customer should be treated with such disrespect, especially when communicating a food allergy. My daughter was nearly in tears. This experience was upsetting and unprofessional.

Now I don't know if this is intentional or just an, "Oopsie doodle! We forgot to update the prices across the board!" But I'm seeing it at both independent and corporate owned places, and frankly, I'm growing tired of the increasing lack of integrity and no longer being able to trust a business. In this particular instance yesterday (Sunday, June 14th), after a lovely day up at the Whitney Portal, hubs and I wanted to grab some dinner before our long drive home. He went to high school in LP 30+ years ago, and Lone Pine's Pizza Factory holds a special, nostalgic place in his heart. We often grab some grub here on every visit. This time we ordered a medium fountain drink and a large "Custom Calzone" with onions, artichokes, meatballs, and sausage, along with a medium soda. The menu, next to the cash register, advertises it for $20.55 "with your choice of 4 toppings" to-go. The total came to $29.48, including a $2 tip, and I didn't think much of it after an exhausting day of high-altitude hiking. The young male employee, appearing to be of high school age, asked if I would like the receipt, and out of reflex I said, "yes, please." He was polite, friendly, and attentive. He even spelled my name correctly on the receipt (bonus points)! Employee #1: 5 stars While waiting for our order, I decided to add-on the salad bar (we love a salad bar where we can prepare it ourself!). The veggies all appeared fresh, the ones we ate tasted fresh, and the salad bar area was clean and tidy despite the busy restaurant and lots of kids running around. Salad bar: 5 stars As I was standing in line behind the customer in front of me placing her order, I glanced at the receipt and noticed the $23.00 charge for the large calzone. This caught my attention, because before our first order, we planned to order a pizza. But their pizza prices seemed exorbitant to us. Now, we do understand that Lone Pine is in a remote area, and it's not a chain restaurant, so cost of doing business is more than the average cost for a corporate chain. We expect the prices to be higher than the city, but $30 for a medium pizza is too steep. So we opted for the calzone instead ($20.55), which offered more than enough food for us and enough for today's lunch. We don't mind spending money if the value is there, and while their pizza has always turned out tasty for us, the price seems way too high for a medium pizza...in our humble opinion. Pricing/value: 3 stars It was my turn to order, and this time I was assisted by another young man, but appearing to be a few years older than the last. I let him know that I already had an order in for a calzone, and that I wanted to add on a salad to-go, but I noticed a price discrepancy on my receipt. He took a look at it for a moment, and then responded that because I ordered beef (meatball) and sausage, that it costs a little more. I pointed out that nowhere on the menu does it state there is a premium price on any of the items, and that the "Custom Calzone" allows up to "4 items," without any exceptions or premium prices advertised. He acknowledged my concerns, but ultimately said that $23.00 is the correct price for the large calzone. I let him know that this is deceptive and false advertising, and I was not satisfied about this experience. In an attempt to make things right, he offered me the salad bar at no cost. I appreciated the gesture and accepted it, and I let him know that the menus need to be updated to reflect accurate pricing. He agreed and apologized for the mix up. He was polite, though a little misinformed (by stating that the calzone cost more "because of the meat"), and he did attempt to right this wrong. However, I wasn't looking for a free item. I would've gladly paid for the salad; I just wanted transparent pricing. Employee #2: 4 stars (could've been 5 stars if not for the wrong reason over "premium topping charge") Overall, the customer service was good, the employees were professional and friendly, the restaurant & restroom was clean (considering how busy it was and compared to many other previous visits)...they were doing the best they could. Our food also came out promptly and just as we ordered, so no complaints there. Let me be clear: this was NOT an employee problem. This IS a management problem that needs to be corrected promptly! If replacing the old menus is too costly, then put a big sign up at the cash register or something equivalent. Don't scam & deceive the customer in hopes that they don't catch it! BE TRANSPARENT! Calzone (presentation/taste): 5 stars Inaccurate menu price vs actual charge: 1 star :-(
