I dont know where to begin i ordered the Rib eye. That is not a rib eye. I sent it back as it was burnt when I ordered med rare. It was a eighth inch thick. Ive had thicker asada from a street vendor. The French fries were soggy and gross. The service was as good as it could be I guess. When I take road trips, I like to plan food stops... some say I may plan some of my trips around food. I would say that is true on some occasions. This wasn't one of them, but we lucked out. We stopped here on the way to Coleville, California, to go camping. It was walking distance from where we were staying the night, so it was an added bonus. My husband and I usually share a plate, but after riding our motorcycles in stupid heat all day long, we looked at each other and said, "There is no way we are splitting." We both ordered a burger, fries, and had a beer as well as a Vitamin Water. That could have been one of the best meals I've had on the road in a while. Of course, we were dehydrated, exhausted, and had protein bars and nuts for 8 hours, but still, I think it was pretty good.  We also split a breakfast sandwich in the morning so we wouldn't be starving while riding the quick two hours in the morning to our meet-up spot with the other campers. If you are traveling and staying in the teepees, make sure you get a snack, breakfast, or dinner there.  I'm sure if we are riding up here again, we will stop for a snack or meal. read more

Love this place! This is one of those places that I've driven past a ton of times on the way up to Mammoth, but I've never stopped. I decided this past year that I want to try all of these little stops off the 395 that I always pass, and this is definitely one of my favorites! Looking at it from the highway the place is a bit unassuming, but once you park and really take it in it's got a really cool homey, rustic feel to it. The dining room feels like you're in a pioneer cabin, and the staff was incredibly friendly. She even gave us a little tour of the facilities, which includes a cluster of teepees that you can glamp in. The food was great, I got the Olancha burger with fries and both were delicious. They also have a selection of bottled and canned local brews, I got a beer from the nearby Indian Wells brewery (which I still need to visit). If you are in a rush this place may not be your best option as the food is cooked to order and there's just one person doing the cooking, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the dining room and strolling around the grounds. If you're on you're way up or back from Mammoth I highly recommend a stop here if you appreciate roadside stops, it feels like a slice of old California. I don't know if this place was ever on "California's Gold" with Huell Howser, but it definitely feels like one of those places that he would visit. read more

First, the wait staff are great! Very friendly and helpful. Considering this little cafe is attached to the motel, it seemed like they may have other duties as well but it did not stop them from delivering great service. The food - it was a solid 3/5. Nothing great but nothing to turn your nose up at. One of our party had chicken that was a little dry. The seasoning and flavor was decent. The restaurant is small and can hold maybe 15-20 people? There looked to be some outside tables as well so maybe it can hold more. Their drink selection was bigger than I expected considering how isolated it is. I would go back if the timing was right when running along HWY 395. read more

The drive from the OC has gotten our appetizers up and the 1.5 hour drive to Bishop was a bit far. So i googled this place and had to try it. This little divey spot completely surprised us in the best way possible. You order and pay at the counter, and there was only one lady running the whole place when we went, but she was friendly and clearly takes pride in what she's doing. The food does take a little time, but trust me, it's absolutely worth the wait. We tried the patty melt, bacon cheeseburger, chicken quesadilla, fries, and onion rings, and everything was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The onion rings were hands down the best I've ever had! Perfectly crispy, not greasy, and so good we talked about them the rest of the day. There are a few tables inside and some outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the weather. It's definitely got that old-school, no-frills vibe, but the food speaks for itself. All of us loved our meals, and if we ever travel through this area again, we'll 100% be back. Unfortunately we could not try the food. We went in, sat at a table and waited for the waitress/cook to take our order after waiting about 8 minutes another person came in who was attended before us. Gets 3 stars because it's one of the only restaurant for miles. But our experience was less than ideal. Seemed like there was only one girl working, felt bad for her. The food was serviceable, but we could hear the microwave going off often and everything was just bland. Could also hear loud coughing in the kitchen which didn't help the appetite. Thank you for staying open "late" the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. After hiking a full day in Death Valley National Park, I was starving and there are limited food options in the area. Luckily, Olancha Cafe wasn't too far from where I was staying for the night and it was open "late", meaning open after 7pm. Upon entering, a nice lady (who is the cook and cashier) provided warm greetings and I was so happy that she was going to fire up the stove as the kitchen had its light off. She mentioned she was getting ready to close up early (think they officially close at 8pm). I opted for a grilled chicken salad and a bacon cheeseburger was also ordered. The salad was refreshing and the grilled chicken was tender, not dry. I didn't have any bites of the bacon cheeseburger, but it looked as expected. While the food was getting packed up, I had a lovely conversation with this lady who shared more about the area and how more people are moving there as land and homes are very affordable. This restaurant is also a gift shop with different trinkets for sale inside. Easy parking, well-lit at night, and friendly service make for an end of a great Sunday. #43/2021 read more

Friendly service but food was bland and overpriced. Literally the most bland carne asada burrito I've ever had in my life. Some salt would have gone a long way. My kids grilled cheese wasn't melted. The food was fresh and delicious. I had a chicken salad and my husband had a burger with a side salad. The food was really good and the service was awesome! We were greeted by Heather when we got there, who also prepared our food. Highway 395 was recently diverted and Olancha Cafe is no longer on the highway. It's just a couple minutes off now. Driving down the 395 we came across this little gem of a place called Olancha Cafe. The restaurant looked super cute with their vines framing the entrance. Everything on the menu was very familiar and appealing. We ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and sausage and the French toast plate. The size of the burrito was big, meat loaded, and grilled with a side of sour cream, pico de gallo, and green salsa. We highly recommend this burrito, it was fantastic. The French toast was also great, I specifically loved that it came with real maple syrup. Real maple syrup is always a game changer for me because it isn't as sweet as the bottled stuff. And finally I need to give a huge kudos to Heather who is a one woman show. She was super friendly, inviting, and a wonderful cook. This place is ridiculously good. We pulled in last night and had a couple of amazing burgers- so juicy! Spent a cold night in our RV. The park could use some work, but looks like improvements have been made. The owners really care and it shows. One of the showers (the big one) is a rainforest nozzle- omg. My son and I were hungry and thought we needed to drive another hour before eating. We decided to plan our stop, and when we pulled up Yelp, we saw the Olancha Cafe only a few minutes away. We stopped and noticed the pleasant atmosphere and feel. The people were happy to see us and serve us. The cook was even dancing while he was making our meal. Stayed a night here at Olancha rv and motel in the horse tipi. It was more than we expected, place was clean, spacious, nice and quiet. Had breakfast next door at Olancha cafe before heading out. This place is a diamond in the rough. Ate here for breakfast and the food was great. Fresh made omelet, the potatoes are crispy, and the ribeye was well cooked. Nothing is premade so there is a bit of a wait while he cooks everything from scratch but so worth it. Can't recommend enough. It's small and inconspicuous but definitely worth a visit. Quaint is the perfect word. Don't be deterred if the place looks closed during business hours, ring the bell and he'll open up. You may also be lucky enough to see a fighter jet fly by. read more

Located right off of the 395, Olancha Cafe offers a convenient spot to stop in at for a meal on a road trip through California. We were on our way to Mammoth from City of Industry, and decided to check this place out for dinner. With only 7 reviews, we were curious to see what this restaurant had to offer. We were the only ones dining there at 7pm on a Friday night. Right next door to a hotel/motel, we did see some people swimming at the pool, but this place was otherwise fairly empty. Service was nice and friendly, and the menu had some decent options. I ordered the BBQ Breast of Free Range Chicken, priced at $12. I thought the food was good, but not great. The menu was definitely a little misleading. I was expecting my meal to come with everything advertised, but I was only given a huge plate of french fries and some fruit slices to go along with the chicken. The chicken was tasty enough, smothered in bbq sauce. They have beer for sale in the hotel lobby, which I would recommend taking advantage of. IPA bottles were about $2.75 each. Don't expect them to be ice cold, despite being located in a fridge. They were slightly chilled and warmed up quick. If this restaurant was in LA, I'd probably give it a lower score, but considering the ambiance and location, I'm giving it 4 stars for now. This place isn't bad. read more

We were staying at the RV park on the way to Death Valley. The breakfast is open, though they only have burrito and coffee. But man, first we were waiting a long time for them to open, then we waited a literal hour to get the coffees and burritos. Who lets a man sit for an hour outside, without giving them their coffee? We would have left but already paid and frankly, we were sort of stuck with Olancha Cafe because there were not many other options in here.
