So this is my 2nd review of this unapologetically mediocre dining establishment. I used to cringe at the incredibly rapid turnover rate of their clearly unhappy and somewhat miserable employees, of which the current ones have been here for at least a year or two. Shocking. What makes a customer like myself keep coming back you might ask...well, I like to give the underdog a chance. I really do. There burgers are unseasoned, if bland, the hashbrowns are undercooked, grilled cheese sandwiches contain unmelted cheese, and it's often freezing inside. However they do make a pretty decent salad. Getting back to the insufferable staff. I'm not sure where to start. They seem distant, as if Lone Pine is the last place they'd like to be. When I came in, my waitress was cordial, yet brief, distant and I had to keep asking for things, to which she would become gruff, scuttle off and return without another word. I, to my surprise, was very warm and friendly to her in the hope that she would chipper up. No such luck. But when another local came in, her whole personality changed, have mercy. She became a new person. Why can't they behave that way with the rest of us? It's quite a disturbing thing to witness. Hopefully, someday soon, their food quality will rise up to match the level of their complete disdain and unabashed nonchalant attitude for inviting repeat business. It's almost as if they just plain old don't care. Til next year...or two. read more

Had the Classic Combo Burger w/ onion rings. Nice and tasty burger after 14 days on JMT. Onion rings a bit stodgy but none left over. Loved the local, on-tap brews. I had the Mojave Red and was hoping to find in store (no luck). Homey atmosphere and worth a stop. read more

Came here during our camping trip at Diaz Lake. Our first impression was it's not crowded. Honestly was going to another popular restaurant in town which I won't mention by name because it's overly crowded there. MT. Whitney restaurant was perfect. Not loud or crowded. The food is great! I ordered the steak picado and added over medium eggs. Service is good, was seated right away. They allow pets! So my Selena (Matipoo) was able to enjoy a beef patty no salt. She seemed to enjoy that! I would recommend coming here to try it out for yourself if you're ever in town. I've never been here for lunch or dinner however, the waitress did say that they have a bar that serves beer no hard liquor and there is a stage where they karaoke up until 9 PM.. I can't tell you the amount of times we've driven by and walked past this place but never made a stop in. Well, first off, your kind in the middle of nowhere. It's a pit stop for a break, food or gas in the town. Not your typical place for a holiday. It caters to more of people out for a fishing weekend, hiking, camping, mountain biking and so on. Still outside of mammoth mountain but a nice pit stop. There's a few eating place around there. We happened to just walk in as we were across the street. We were greeted and seated. Anywhere we wanted. Started off with a beer which was much needed after the drive from LA and being in the car for quite some time. Menu was quite good. Family style diner but with a good selections dishes. Food didn't take that long to arrive and was quite tasty. Everyone working was all so friendly and attentive. Chatted with us asking if we were in the area for hiking, camping, etc. Pretty cool spot for a quick meal and drinks. Food was great and staff was friendly. Overall experience, enjoyed it. read more

I had to jump on here for a review because we always have a great experience here and, in my opinion, they deserve a higher rating than they have. We are burger connoisseurs and order them quite frequently. This place consistently delivers a perfect burger. It's cooked just right with the perfect ratio of meat, toppings and bun. I always get a side of buffalo wing sauce for my fries which is delicious here. Our servers have always been friendly, prompt and polite. If you are driving through Lone Pine and need a place to stop, give the Mt. Whitney Restaurant a try! read more

Some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. From the hostess to the server, nobody in the restaurant seems to want to be there. The staff doesn't want to be inconvenienced with you sitting outside as it's extra work for them. They don't want to have to visit your table more than once about every 15 minutes. And if you need to take a second to check the menu out as a first-time visitor, good luck getting seated anytime soon. It is completely mind-boggling how a staff that is is dependent on tips has no interest in showing any friendliness or accommodation to their guests. Their slogan about being the best burgers in town is a borderline criminal claim, they are nowhere close. There's a place just right next door (hint, the word "Alabama" is in it) with superior customer service, atmosphere (and burgers). read more

Came in for lunch/dinner. Sat at the bar. Very friendly staff. The sign said "best burgers in town" so even though I don't eat beef I was intrigued by the ostrich on the menu. Ordered ostrich burger, fries and strawberry shake. The ostrich was med rare but still i thought it lacked flavor. Basic burger setup- cheese,lettuce and tomato. No bread condiments but theres ketchup. The fries were perfectly seasoned to my surprise and the shake was made from actual strawberry ice cream. If I come back it wont be for the ostrich. read more

If you find yourself passing through this ghost town and are considering stopping for a bite, do yourself a favor and keep driving--or at the very least, try another restaurant. The service is underwhelming, the food is mediocre at best, the bathrooms are grimy, the soda is flat, and your "side" will likely be a small bag of Lays chips. To top it off, when we asked for the check, the waitress claimed she "accidentally" added an 18% gratuity. After we paid, she couldn't even provide us with a receipt. We sometimes stop at Lone Pine for a stretch break en route to or from Mammoth and never tried this place. Glad we finally did! It was one of few options open past 8pm on a Friday so choices were limited. Food was really good! Maybe diner food / comfort food tastes better in cold weather?! Firstly, the service was very friendly and has excellent taste. The server suggested the Friday special which was prime rib. We ordered that medium rare which came out perfectly juicy. We also ordered the Fried Beer Batter Cod. She suggested fried corn on the cob for the side which was my first time trying it. Her recommendation was spot on! This place has everything on their menu. Not sure if that's a plus or not. We had regular breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash brown and biscuit n gravy. Tri-tips with eggs noodles. Nothing to rant about. Breakfast dish was good. The bacon was crispy. The egg noodles was pretty sad. The Tri-Tip had no flavor whatsoever. read more

In town for one night, looking for a good burger, drinks and nice warm atmosphere but what we found was a not this! Employees treated us like we were a bother. Very few people there, and still no check in to see how the food was. Never an offer for more drinks. Burger and onion rings were not hot. It's a traditional American diner with tasty food. The service is a little lacking and I'm guessing it's due to staffing issues, who isn't experiencing that these days? Be patient with the staff, they mean well and their busting their butts to serve you. I ordered the chicken fish and chips and thought it was great! Crispy fish with a side of delicious golden French fries. My buddy ordered a traditional burger and said it was pretty good. It's. "G - spoon" type place so I wouldn't expect anything fancy. I came to Lone Pine to camp and visit the Eastern Sierra Nevadas this past week & I must say it was unbelievably beautiful! I loved everything about Lone Pine, the atmosphere, the stores, the parks, and the scenery. My bf & I stopped by in the morning before heading back to LA to try out their breakfast. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, you are spaced out far from other people dining inside. The set-up is very Western & I loved it, so many photos of actors on the wall. They are known for their burgers but they only serve breakfast till 11:00am. We both ordered the High Sierra breakfast plate which came with 2 fluffy pancakes that were moist & delicious, scrambled eggs, & bacon or sausage. I honestly didn't think I would finish everything....but I did! The service was fast, good, & the prices are really reasonable!! They do comply with COVID-19 rules and regulations & they do have restrooms for their customers! Next time I come back or go through route 395 I will make an effort to try out their burgers! :) read more

We stopped here on our way up Mammoth. This place is located in Lone Pine. The breakfast was very good. The eggs were made perfect to order. We both had them over medium. The pancakes were also good. The hashbrowns were a bit overcooked but they were okay, not great. Still good. The service was a bit slow and the hot water for my tea was medium warm. I told them it was not hot enough, and they did bring me some more hot water right away. The waitress was very friendly. This is a good place to stop for breakfast on your way up to Bishop or mammoth lakes. read more

Not sure but she could not be bothered, we had lunch and dinner at a few places down town lone pine all great except this stop , hands down this was the worst service that I've had anywhere in a long time. Worst serving sizes 6 onion rings? Small pastrami sandwich almost like I ordered off of the kids menu. Worst service, asked some ice water got my glass refilled with room temp water and no ice at all, got up and got my own ice after asking for ice water 3 times. After watching her looking at our tables empty glasses she just moved on, we wanted more items like dessert. We won't be back to eat here next time we are back later this year, and I'm pretty sure the other 5 people won't be back either. Time to hire someone who cares about your customers. Heading up to the high Sierras and stopped at lone pine because I was starving. This place looks like a diner from the 50s. Service was average, the restaurant is nothing special but I liked it. Stop by on the way to my first trip to june lake and yosemite and I definitely wasn't disappointed when I came here with a hungry tummy. I enjoyed a delicious chicken sandwich and my partner enjoyed a patty melt both very delicious. I also had a side salad which I wasn't too fond of. We were so disappointed, this was one of our favorite places to eat in town. Not sure what happened, but breakfast was two sausage pucks, not Pattie's. They were so dry they weren't edible and under cooked, over greasy hash browns that had sat on the flat top way too long. Wait staff used to be a breath of fresh air from our city life and this time they all seemed to be grumpy. Not over worked, there were only three other tables with customers. Made we wish I would have packed some granola bars for the road. read more
