Onion Rings, burger
Celine P.

We arrive here for lunch on our way to mammoth. All the servers had really fun hair! We had beer & hot water with lemon. We ordered a veggie burger and the Hawaiian style burger with pineapple and onion rings. The teriyaki sauce was so disappointing because it was runny and just tasted like a sweet soy sauce. I talked to the server and they said they have been trying to get better teriyaki sauce so maybe this scathing review can encourage them to find something better and shelf stable. I have eaten here 2 times. Both times were for lunch and both were good experiences. The restaurant is very rustic and nostalgic. There is movie memorabilia all over the walls showing some of the 300 plus movies that were filmed here by the 1950s. Our server was polite, and he told us about their family restaurant. He was asking what we were going to do and see, and how we liked it so far. He even made a few suggestions. He did mention that it was a small town of about 2000 people. The menu has plenty of lunch options to choose from but I was interested in the grilled cheese and french fries. I don't get to eat grilled cheese much, and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remember. Their grilled cheese on sourdough did not disappoint. It was golden, warm, crunchy and tasted great. The french fries were exactly like I like them, golden, warm, delicious. The other time I ate there, it was extremely busy during the NFL playoffs in January, and I believe there is only 1 bathroom, so there was a line. It is a good option for lunch, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. Plenty of pics attached for you to see.

We were pleasantly surprised with the MT Whitney Restaurant. My wife had the Philly and I had the Tuna melt and we both opted for onion rings. The Philly was average but there was something about the Tuna melt that I really enjoyed. I would definitely recommend it. Onion rings were nice and crispy and not really greasy at all. We will definitely be back.

Service: Workers were not mean! But they were not friendly either. And I couldn't tell if they didn't like us or were mad about something haha Food: I got the beef eater sandwich and the meat tasted plastic-y and tough. I ended up taking it out and just eating the bread, cheese, and tomato. My friend got a beef tip pasta, but I believe it's more like a watered down beef soup? Ambiance: I do like the decor! There's plenty of seating and the restroom is clean.

Came here with a friend after rock climbing and a long day in the car. We got here around dinner time and there were many open tables. My friend liked the ambiance. Fairly typical fare for diner type food- burgers, sandwiches, fries, onion rings. I ordered a burger and fries and salad - which was not very memorable and rather dry. My friend got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Neither of us got sick from eating here, but next time I am in the area, I might try out some of the other options.

I was in lone pine to charge my cyber beast at the Tesla superchargers so I went for a short walk and stumbled on the mt Whitney restaurant. I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and it was delish. I got a salad instead of fries to stay on the healthy side. The ranch dressing was homemade and told could taste the difference. It was so salty and creamy and good hint of dill, pepper, buttermilk yum. The restaurant had a hometown vibe and everyone was friendly. Thank you my Whitney restaurant. The shakes are a must.

I was a bit disappointed with this first visit. Heading to Northern Nevada from SoCal and was hoping to stop at the Alabama Hills Cafe & Bakery, but it was closed on Wednesday. The food here was decent but not nearly worth the price. A beef dip was $17 with fries, but the sandwich only had 3 slices of beef folded over. House salad was basically lettuce and croutons (with a single cherry tomato). I would NOT get the Deep Fried Corn on the Cob. Just a half cob and nothing really different. Service was good, friendly and courteous. It's a basic hometown cafe atmosphere.

I've been to Mount Whitney Restaurant twice now and both times were lackluster at best... This time around it was after a two night backpacking trip to summit Mount Whitney. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday post-summit and enjoyed watching football while relaxing, talking about our adventure, and eating our food - once it came out. Our waitress appeared more interested in also watching football than tending to tables but oh well, it is what it is. What left a worse taste in my mouth was when I ordered a root beer float and she responded with disgust. She then apologized and informed us she went to a party (something about a wedding?) the night before... not my problem. You're at work now, should have acted like it. Food was alright. Atmosphere was the best part. Go Bills.

Mt. Whitney Restaurant has an old-school charm, but it definitely shows its age and could use some updates due to wear and tear. That said, the cheeseburger was surprisingly good--juicy and flavorful. The service was just okay, nothing too memorable, but not bad either. The ambiance is quiet, which makes sense since it's in a small town. If you're looking for a simple, no-frills meal in a low-key setting, it's worth a stop.

The restaurant was nearly full when we arrived but no one was taking advantage of the outdoor seating. The menu and prices are what you would expect from a typical American-style diner. The desserts, though, are several cuts above. It was already 2pm when we arrived (the restaurant closes at 3pm) and I was surprised to see that there were still desserts available, as they were sold out on every one of my previous visits. I've always wanted to try one of their pies. Unfortunately, the only pies left were whole pies and, though I was sorely tempted, I knew that I would end up eating the whole pie at one sitting. Instead, I ordered the peach blackberry coffee cake. Wow! I don't know who's doing their baking for them, but their talents are being wasted in Lone Pine. That coffee cake in an L.A. restaurant would be featured in Eater LA at a minimum.

But really, they have wraps to go if you need a quick bite. The food isn't anything to write home about - the real star of the show is Jess. She will make you feel welcomed, as if you're a regular. She has the perfect personality to keep the ambiance at the restaurant high energy and fun. Should she ever leave this place, the ratings would likely be closer to a 2-3 star.

It's super cute. They have a big menu with all kinds of food. I was excited to see vegan and gluten-free options. I got a Kung pao tofu which was delicious and my mom got one of the specials, teriyaki which the waitress happily helped her choose. The servings were large. An older man, I don't know if he was the manager or owner, stop by to check on us and chat with us several times as he was doing with other people in the restaurant, very friendly. We both needed to-go bags and ate it as our lunch the next day. I also got a nice sake to go with my meal. It was a super memorable dinner and definitely recommend to anyone. in fact, I recommended it to some hikers the next day.

Although they weren't as busy as the Alabama cafe my husband and I found their food and the atmosphere to be great and actually much better than the Alabama Cafe. I ordered a vegetable omelette. The veges were plentiful and sautéed just right with a great flavor. I asked for a side of salsa and it was super good, obviously homemade and fresh. It came with home fried potatoes which were from freshly sliced potatoes (not frozen) and they were also seasoned perfectly. In addition i substituted fresh fruit for toast and it came with fresh cantaloupe, pineapple and berries, all sweet and delicious. ( Alabama cafe wouldn't allow for substitutes) My husband ordered ham and eggs and he said it was really good as it was a nice thick ham steak and again, great flavor. The cafe felt cozy and comfortable with lots of antique decor to check out. They also sell jars of honey that i plan on buying next time. We will be back for sure on our next trip to mammoth and I hope this review will draw attention to Totems as their food was great and they deserved the review.

She came back and said in fact they don't serve Margarita's. She said she had no idea, and that she didn't even live in the area. What does where she lives have anything to do with anything? I don't want to be mean, but ?? I ordered the 1/2 rack of these "Famous Ribs." My hubby the Flat Iron steak. We asked for salads as the choice instead of soup. We wait and wait...starving after having hiked all over the Alabama Hills. It is customary to get the salad ahead of time, but this young lady was doing other things. Suddenly after 15 min. we got our meals with no salad. She was getting ready to walk away when I asked about the salads. She went and got them not really concerned about it, and was not really understanding. So onto these ribs! I'm traumatized by these things that were so overcooked and dry. What on earth was done to these things? It seems they were boiled, then frozen, then defrosted, and microwaved? Who knows!! I do know this. I have been making ribs for a long time. For the love of God you don't need to kill the pig 15 times! My hubbies Flat Iron Steak was alright. Not completely hideous. Needless to say, there are not many choices in the Lone Pine. This is not a choice I would ever venture to again if in the area.

Whitney. We had looked at the menu online and had an idea of what we wanted in advance, nope. Out of: the elk, all lamb, trout, and the filets- we ended up with two orders of top sirloin. I had mine with the mushrooms and my husband had his with the green peppercorn sauce- I guess you can still have the sauces even though the meat is gone. The steaks were ok, I definitely did not get what I wanted and probably wouldn't have stayed if I had known just how bad it would be. I did see others walk out, and people that ordered after me were not happy. There's a really easy way to fix this- daily paper menus with what you actually have. Maybe even update them as things run out. Just cross stuff out. Let the guests know up front. If I had known how limited it was, I wouldn't have ordered a drink and eaten the tasty bread roll. Service wasn't that great either- the person that brought the drinks was very friendly, but otherwise our waiter was pretty inattentive. I had the Bees Knees which I enjoyed, I ordered a glass of red to go with the steak, and that didn't show up till I was well into my meal. Weirdly, I would give this place another shot, but would order before even sitting down. That way when I am told that all I can get is a steak that I'm not that interested in, I'll go somewhere else. Or eat at the bar, have a decent drink and leave when you see how dire the menu selection is.

When she brought it to their attention, the employee snatched the burger from her hands and threw it in the trash in a very rude manner. My daughter also witnessed them carelessly throwing the ingredients onto the bun while remaking her order, which was very concerning given her allergy. When the corrected order was ready, it was simply slid across the counter without a single word. I went inside to address the situation and asked to speak to a manager, only to find out the person who treated my daughter this way was the manager on duty an older Hispanic male. This is completely unacceptable. No child or any customer should be treated with such disrespect, especially when communicating a food allergy. My daughter was nearly in tears. This experience was upsetting and unprofessional.
