Chili Cheese Dog Combo, with Root Beer of course.
    Keith H.

Frostop is a Baton Rouge Tradition! It's located on the edge of Downtown in the same building it has occupied since it opened in 1957. It's a simple structure, but is easily recognized by the big root beer mug that serves as its sign. Since we are discussing root beer, I think we should start with that. They serve what is called on the menu "Homemade Root Beer." This is certainly thick, rich, and flavorful. If one is dining in, it can be served to you in a beautifully frosted mug. It's excellent by itself, but it can also be had as a delicious root beer float. Amazing! Then there is the food. This is basic diner fare as one would have expected. There are hot dogs, hamburgers, and Po-Boys. All are good and satisfying. One of my old time favorites is the BLT! One can make these a combo with a drink and fries. There's other sides available including thinly cut onion rings and fried okra. Plates and whole-meal salads also are available. There's a surprising number of choices. All of them are freshly and quickly prepared and served quickly. Now, it's time to discuss the historic nature of the building. This establishment was opened in the 1950's and at this point looks a little worn. Some of the vinyl on the booth benches has cracked and been repaired with tape. There are some cracked and missing tiles on the counter. The building shows its age. However, it's clean and its appearance doesn't stop the lunch crowd from filling it up on a daily basis. Just wanted to warn the uninitiated that this shouldn't concern them as they step into an experience from yesteryear.

Bussin! Can't believe I've waited 9 years to try this place. Old style burger joint with the grime to prove its longevity. A downtown favorite for years, this place is hard to beat. Homemade root beer served in frosted mugs. Beef grilled to perfection and a service that kids at a chain restaurant just can't provide.

This place is very unassuming from the outside and kind of looks closed when driving past but worth the stop for sure. For the price this place can't be beat. $12 gets you a good size single patty burger with cheese fries and a homemade root beer. The root beer is a must! It was so flavorful that it brought me back to a summer day as a boy after playing outside with all the neighborhood kids. The people working were really friendly and greeted us with a smile. Music playing gave it that ole timey feel too. I would for sure go back.

Place is got really busy for lunch.

Very old. Floors are sticky. Booth chairs are torn. Black & white tiles on counter are falling off. Weren't sure when we walked in because there was only one customer but really wanted a homemade root beer float. DELICIOUS. Tasted like real root beer and they used creamy soft serve ice cream. The shrimp and catfish po-boys were so satisfying. Really hit the spot. The onion rings were thin cut and crispy, just like the good days before they became monster sized and covered in thick batter. While we were eating, the place got packed. Really shined at that point because now we know, it's a local joint, and the locals know yummy food lives there. Old but clean. Friendly people. Great music too. Ordered fried okra to go to top off.

I don't care what the other reviews say I will be returning. I've been wanting to visit this place since I've moved to BR and I'm glad to say I finally did. I would say I was always skeptical simply because it looks like a whole in the wall but those places are the BEST. I ordered the Whole lot burger special and a side of onion rings and my date had a chili cheese dog with fries and a strawberry shake. Our order took no longer than 10 mins and was still hot when it arrived at the table. The shake came out almost as soon as we sat down. The girl behind the counter asked for feed back and girl it was good! Not too thick the perfect consistency. The burger was perfectly seasoned and huge! I couldn't finish it all or I would have been stuffing it down. My onion rings were pretty good. There needs to be some sort of sauce but definitely not needed. I like that they were the thinner onion rings. I even had a couple shrimp in there so it was a nice surprise. I also ended up having fries because they were made by accident and she still gave them to me! They had a nice lunch rush when we were leaving and she also offered to top off our drinks before we left. I'll be back.

One of those well-known businesses in downtown Baton Rouge with their trademark "Frostop Root Beer" mug big and proud in the parking lot on the corner of Government Street and Ferdinand. Not sure if I ever came here as a kid but always known of it. Decided to pop in impromptu during my work drive and grabbed myself a shrimp Poboy and fried okra. Both were delicious, and I couldn't help but gobble it all down. The building itself appears run down, but exceptions can be made when the ambiance is nostalgic and the food is worth it. Old or antique items on display that no longer work, such as the jukebox and claw machine. Music is playing, but you can hardly hear it over the air conditioning system and conversation. I didn't sit to eat, but as far as service, no complaints. A couple people ordering at the register when I arrived, but they were quickly helped by the cashier. My order was finished in about 15 minutes, so not bad there either. Root beer and root beer floats are clearly their staple items, so I'll definitely plan to come back for those.

Visited here last month for the first time in ages & it's still as I remember it. No frills just good people & good, simple food without breaking the bank. I was delighted to see a Crab Burger on the menu so I tried it. It was pretty tasty. The crab patty was fried golden brown & crispy, on a bun dressed with lettuce, tomato, & mayo. The girls had cheeseburgers. And ya can't go to Frostop without getting a chilled mug of root beer. We're gomna have to add them to the rotation.

    Cute restaurant!

Great service, friendly staff, the food was delicious! Cute, vintage, small town feel, loved the fried okra and chocolate malt! All of it! Highly recommend! Worth the trip!

Because Sunday's there is happy hour until 5, I got the bottomless mimosas for $12, which came out to four drinks for me. A great deal I think! My friend and I weren't starving, but we wanted a snack, so we decided to split a burger between the two of us. We decided on the fried pickle burger, which came with ranch and fried pickles on the burger. I'm usually not adventurous when it come to burgers, but I was excited to try, since I loved fried pickles. The burger is pretty big, so it was defiantly enough for us to split. I thought the fried pickle burger was delicious! The ranch wasn't too heavily poured on, and the fried pickles were seriously a great touch. The patty was juicy and tasted so good. I love these fries, and they were cooked to perfection for me. I can't wait to come back and be more adventurous with my burger selections haha.

I tried a new burger, the surf and turf, which kind of felt like a risk, but in hindsight, I should've done it much sooner because it was delicious. This was also my first time trying the Boudin eggrolls! So yummy, the sauce they come with compliment it so well. I went on a Tuesday night so there was trivia going on which was interesting. Service was good, overall had a great experience.

I saw Iverstines in a YouTube clip and it looked intriguing. Apparently it's intriguing to lots of people because it was packed when we went. Despite the crowd, the wait was brief and the staff was friendly and keeping people moving. On our first visit we got sandwiches. The Cuban was a great choice. It was everything a Cuban should be. I would've liked more mustard but it was the best Cuban I've had in BR. Next trip we did a plate lunch. At the recommendation of a dude in line, I got the Tri tip. Solid choice. The green beans on the side were very good. In addition to the lunches, Iverstine is a full butcher. I will report back when I try some of their pre packed stuff. PS. They sell a hat with a piece of bacon on it that says Thiccccc. If anyone wants to get me that as a Christmas gift, I promise to change my profile photo to me in that hat.

They staved off an eviction nearly a decade ago and have somehow managed to stick around for a total of nearly 7 decades. Dearman's is the last legit diner in the city. The interior is a trip back in time. The spacious dining room is complete with retro furniture, checkered floors, and old school artwork that feels like something out of the 1950s. The decor screams pure Americana and is one of the biggest draws for the many patrons that come through daily. My favorite part is their juicy burgers. Pair it with their crispy fries and their old school milkshakes, and one has a complete meal. The burgers are hearty, and the portions are substantial. They also have salads, other sandwiches (tuna is my go-to), and various options for loaded fries. The other awesome part are the prices. Minus the double cheeseburger, there are no items that exceed $10 on the entire menu. The staff is young and always enthusiastic, and they play a big part in making this place such a destination. It is group / kid-friendly, and an ideal lunch spot. Orders can be placed online, but I recommend eating in for the full experience.

They were a little busy, but they had people that came in way after us, that had a reserved table and they got waited on before us and then another group of ladies came way after us and they got waited on before us. So I had to go to the counter and play dumb and ask them, do we write down our order or is somebody going to come and take our order? The guy did apologize and he did send a waitress right over. Two of us got the classic cheeseburger, which was very good and we ordered one order of sweet potato fries, which were very good. Of course I got the chocolate shake, and it was very good too. The man in our party got the hamburger steak, which was too big hamburger steaks with gravy and french fries. It also came with a salad and toast. But, they didn't bring the salad until after they brought the hamburger steak and they didn't bring the toast until he was almost finished with his meal. He said the toast was good. He said the hamburger steak was OK, but he wouldn't get it again. I will go back because the hamburger was very good. But just don't get the hamburger steak that comes with french fries, a salad and toast because you might not get the salad and toast until after you get the hamburger steak.

Agile usually has 15 or so different beers or seltzers on tap. What I like about Agile is they don't just have 12 different IPA's (although I am a huge IPA guy) a stout and a blonde.
