It's got burgers that are good, fries that are ok, root beer that is passable, but every time I ask for no onions, there they are. 100% of the time "No onions please" "ok cheese and no onion" I get home to my wife with the burgers only to find onions stuck deep in the melty tasty cheese. We just stoped by for a photo op of the root beer sign to add to our roadside america list, an older burger stop from the 60's but it was clean and the staff was helpful ( we parked our 30 ft pull trailer behind the buliding), ordered a onion rings and the root beer float and it was all that I could have hoped for. Overall, a better choice than the McDonald's down the road -- I mean that in the best way possible I have been a few times, and I was not impressed the last time I went in. I needed to kill some time before an appointment near downtown, so I stopped in for lunch with the roommate. First, I was not impressed with the service at all. I know it was a little before a lunch rush would hit, but I still feel like the guy taking my order should not be texting as I am trying to order. Next I ordered the full size roast beef po'boy (maybe I should stop doing that). When it came out, I noticed I was holding a plate with two po'boys on it. (One of the ladies working there explained that they just do two regular sized sandwiches instead of one big one (weird but nothing that really detracted from the experience). My main complaint, and I suppose it is a big one, is that my po'boy had entirely too much mayonnaise on it. I know I don't really like mayo, and I just kind of assumed that a sandwich does not need mayo and gravy, but that was just waaaaaaaay too much mayonnaise for a sandwich. I enjoyed my fried okra (but I will enjoy almost any fried okra). I am sure I will be back, but I will also be sure to order the half po'boy and tell them to leave the mayonnaise off. read more

Came in on a wednesday afternoon, around 3. There was one person besides me and my friend in the restaurant and that person had already been served and was eating. We just wanted to try some small burgers and the rootbeer so we ordered a kids cheeseburger, a rootbeer and a coke float. We ordered it to go so we sat down to wait on our food. There were 3 people working. One cook, one cashier and another person who just kind of stood there and talked to the others. We waited about 10 minutes and still no food or drinks. We went up to remind the cashier about our drinks but he took a phone call and ignored us. The burger came out and we sat back down to wait on the drinks. Cashier finally got our drinks 5 minutes after that. We ate at home which was only a 3 minute drive and our burger was missing cheese. Not a big deal but overall the burger was nothing special. The rootbeer tasted like soda water with a hint of rootbeer flavor. The coke float was okay because the ice cream sweetened it but the coke itself was sour and tasted like the nozzle needed cleaned. read more

I'm a "hole in the wall" type of girl at times, so Frostop definitely had me singing the blues when I walked in, because it took me back in time. Literally. This place is definitely retro, and the classic rootbeer float is realllly good. I guess its true, they don't make em like they used to anymore. I think my float lasted a long time considering the warm weather, if I had a float from anywhere else it would've evaporated in seconds. I like this place, I didn't try the food but one thing for certain, keepin' it retro has served this place well. I am only reviewing the Root Beer and a chocolate shake. First the shake... It's good. It is made with soft serve ice cream, simple and tasty. Now the root beer... Do not get your hopes up. The root beer is far too sweet, no bite, served out of a standard soda fountain (which I can't help but feel compromises the consistency), and the mug was chilled but not frosty. I was very disappointed and did not ask for a refill. I gave 2 stars because I didn't try the food, and the shake was good but the place was dirty and the root beer was just bad. read more

This review applies only to the signature root beer. We saw the big mug sign and on a whim pulled in. We did not order any food. We ordered two root beers to go and went on our way. The facility is weathered and worn and needs a good update. That's all I can report on except for the drinks. I say this with all sincerity: this the absolute best root beer I have ever tasted in my (too many) years to count. I don't know why it was different but it was in the best way. Nice family business with a family-friendly setting. This is the kind of establishment that is best for friends or families wanting to have a good time. The hamburgers were ok, but the onion rings, friend okra, hot sausage poboy, roast beef, and catfish were delicious! I don't know what they fry their fish in, but it sure is delicious. The shakes and malts definitely hit the spot. Great customer service! Not sure why there are people that haven't tried this place and fallen in love yet. read more

We went here because we were at the River Center and needed a quick lunch. This was the closest restaurant. We ordered a catfish po boy, shrimp po boy and ham po boy. The bread was fresh and seafood was served hot. Those are all the positive comments that I have. The ham po boy had a single deli slice of ham folded over on it. Both the seafood items appeared​ to be prebreaded and frozen from a bag. The rootbeer, which what they are supposed to famous for, was served in a styrofoam cups full of ice. I was expecting a frosted mug. The worst part about this place is that it is dirty. It is not a dive. I can deal with a dive. It is filthy. The floor is dirty and doesn't appear to have been mopped in a long time. My shoes stuck to it as we left. There are tiles missing from the floor. The windows are very dirty need to be cleaned. The ceiling tiles around the air vents all have black dust on them as do the vents themselves. The vinyl seat cushions in the booths have split apart. The splits are covered with duct tape but the tape has now split. read more

Visited with my mom here for lunch before visiting the downtown museums. We shared a shrimp po-boy and had an order of fries each with a drink. One of the better shrimp po-boys I've had in a long time...crispy shrimp, flavorful tartar, soft french roll...can't go wrong. Good portion sizes as well; we shared the large size and it was quite filling. We didn't have time for a float but I hear they are great...haven't had one in years! My sister was giving me a tour of downtown Baton Rouge and she almost drive by this place until I insisted on stopping. For what?? Root beer float of course! First of all, this is an old fashion diner hole in the wall kind of place. These are the best joints around. I wished I could have tried the menu but we were only there for the root beer float. It did not disappoint. Can't wait to visit again and give the hamburger a try. If you are freaked out by a bit of dirt and an old restaurant, just don't look up. This is one of the oldest restaurants that I know. It was so good and I was so heartbroken when they closed in my town. So here I am driving over an hour out of the way to the last one I know of open. Person wiping trays continuously coughs on trays she just wiped. Woman checking out takes my credit card and scratches her scalp with it. Cook is coughing now. On the grill. I'm so done. She just got water for my drink out of a dirty faucet: coughing tray lady is scratching her head and coughing over the condiment/burger making station. Fries were old and cooked in old grease and soggy. But heeeeyyyy the burger was good. So they get a star. If you live close to here and want it still definitely order to-go or through Uber eats and pretend you never read this. read more

I went to frostop yesterday for lunch and got a hamburger and fries and a rootbeer float. The root beer float was amazing! The people working there where extremely nice the man behind the counter noticed i had drank all the root beer out of my float and offered a free refill of rootbeer. To me thats great service! On the way out he even offered to make me a to go cup of rootbeer. The hamburger was really good and the fries where fresh and hot. If you want a good rootbeer float and a burger go to frostop. Yes it looks old but hey if it aint broke dont fix it. Most new restaurants dont even make it 2 months and this place has been open since the 1950s. read more

I would only recommend the root beer float; everything else sucks! The cashiers are not to bright or quick. I would tell you to go to Dearmans for a really good burger but they are temporarily closed dued to a fire. Hopefully they will be open soon. read more

Great root beer float, but this the dirtiest food establishment ( dirtiest business actually) that I've been to in a long time. Everything is dirty, food spattered everywhere, lights flickering, wires hanging from ceiling. Pretty gross. The rootbeer is tasty, if a little too vanilla-y for my taste, but you can't go wrong in the frosted mug when the rootbeer freezes and floats to the top. This place is tore up from the floor up, but the food is soooooooooo good. The root beer is as good as any she she craft concoction you will ever find. The Shrimp Po Boys are light and flaky, not greasy at all. The onion rings are also incredible. If you can get past the beat up interior, you're in for a treat. read more
