I don't give out a lot of five star, but when I do you know the place is going to be good. This is one of the most reviewed place in Albuquerque, and I know understand why. First of all, this place is located right across a college, and on top of that its open late... This is already a win for college students. Second, the food is cheap for what they offer. We ended up getting a veggie burrito and cheese enchiladas with a large soda to wash it down. The food was really flavorful and plentiful. They don't skimp out on portion size. Each bite of both dishes were packed with flavor. Third, the condiments were superb... They have green chili stew for free and you can add it to anything you want. Wtf... How awesome is that. Also, they have the 100+ soda flavor machine, so you can make sure you get the right drink each time. On the other side, they have ketchup/mustard and cold salsa. This was our first time trying Frontier and it will not be our last. The restaurant is huge and has an old diner type of ambiance. The line was short when we ordered our food but soon after, a school arrived and the staff was not phased by it. The service was still quick and friendly. I ordered the breakfast burrito with carne adobada and it was delicious. It was packed with flavor and so filling. The meat was tender and made the burrito taste so good. My wife ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon and she really enjoyed it. In addition she had the pancakes and they were light and fluffy...just delicious. The coffee was strong, hot and perfect. I am from South Texas so I am used to a a different kind of sweet tea...this one was sweet but not too much tea flavor. I ended with a cinnamon roll and it was fantastic. We came here based on a recommendation from a relative. The food was delicious. We had eggs and bacon which came with some tortillas. We couldn't get enough of those tortillas, they are soft flour tortillas and could have those by themselves because they are that good. Self-serve beverage machines. Self-serve condiments and utensils. A lot of tables to sit far away from others. Hand sanitizer dispensers always full. I dine off hours. Never a long queue. Nothing fancy about this venue. It's a super oldskool facade, not true 66, it's post-I40 designed to look old. No wayward sojourners stopped here. Kind of a dive, actually, but it's neither Nob Hill nor the War Zone. It's UNM. Burgers better than Blakes. Burritos are filling, nothing notable. Not chic or trendy like Sawmill. I came here for breakfast and had their famous sweet roll and their Frontier burrito. The meal was good and the food was prepped fast. You can order anything off of the full menu at anytime. There is no table service or servers so the meal comes out a little cheaper. I've heard a lot about their sweet roll but to be honest I was not impressed. I think it is mainly famous because it is good for a non chain restaurant. Honestly, Cinnabon is a lot better. The burrito was good. The restaurant was clean and packed. The seating and dining area look a little older but are clean. Self serve station for fresh salsa, napkins, utensils, and a fancy drink machine. I would come again. For what we ordered and the price, Frontier is amazing. We found this place right before our flight out of ABQ. To ensure we don't miss our fight, I phoned in for an order to go. Upon arriving, we saw how big and spacious it was. Apparently you have to wait in line to pick up and pay for your food. Around 9:00pm on a Monday, there was a steady amount of customers. This place is good! I have eaten here twice. I try to make it here when I visit Albuquerque. I really enjoy that the food is just wonderful and fast. I ordered a frontier burrito at my most recent visit. I love burritos that are covered in sauce. The burrito was so good with the ground beef, the red and green chili sauce smothered on top. By the time I was done eating, I was so full! It almost makes me not want to order one of the sweet rolls, which are gigantic Cinnamon rolls. Well even if you are full, I highly recommend you get one. It's excellent. I actually ordered the frozen 6 pack so that I can bring it home for the family to enjoy as well. Downtown Albuquerque, nearly 10pm on a Saturday night and we're hungry. We stopped here. Parking is a mess and a bit sketchy. This is a large restaurant with a lot of foot traffic including college kids, locals, and some people who looked like they may sleep in the ally. There is a security guard roaming the building which makes sense since the dining area is too big to be monitored from the front desk. Simple concept, order your food at the counter wait for your number. It's very fast and very simple. Large menu. The dining area is large and broken into several different areas so monitors are placed in each room so you can grab a seat and wait for your number. This prevents you from having to wait at the counter. We got our food fast. Very affordable. Three of us ate chips and cheese, chips and guac, huge burrito, enchilada plate all for under $24. That's cheaper than I paid for hot dogs at the last place. Now the food. It's tex mex, which honestly tastes like my mom's cooking. It's like a packet of William's seasoning mix which is not entirely unpleasant but nothing like the authentic Mexican I've grown accustomed too and a little surprised that I've traveled to New Mexico and get this. It's very good though. I could totally see being young in Albuquerque, middle of the night, and come to this place drunk looking to binge. I have a feeling that happens a lot. It's open to 1am. The college student classic will forever be the carne adovada burrito, so simple, yet so perfect. I like the burgers as well, particularly the Fiesta Burger with green chile. Splurge on a tasty order of fries while you're at it. There are weekday specials as well, get the details at the counter. Personally, the chopped green chile chicken enchiladas are where it's at. Often I'll substitute beans for rice. For other occasions, the chicken nachos are perfect for sharing. I am also partial to the Frontier burrito. One of the nice things about eating here is you pretty much know what you're going to get. So that's it! Don't stare at the menu for too long and make sure to snag your order as soon as it's ready. Frontier is an impressive Albuquerque institution, but with a reputation carried more by its iconic status rather than food quality. I came on a Sunday morning, and there weren't too many other patrons. But the restaurant is clearly sized for huge crowds. The size of the restaurant is awe-inducing. There are four separate rooms with seating for hundreds, ranging from little tables for two to cozy booths to family-size arrangements for large groups. And the restaurant is basically an art museum unto itself: portraits and paintings of New Mexico landscapes cover all the walls - there's nary a bare spot to be seen. When you arrive, you'll get in line to order at the counter. There are about a dozen different cashiers, so just go up to the next free one once it's your turn. You'll order and pay and get a receipt. Then you'll need to go up to pick up your food once they get to your order number. In the meantime, you're free to go stake out a table while you wait for your food. They claim to be famous for their green chili stew, pozole, fresh tortillas, and sweet rolls, so that's exactly what I ordered. The soups were both pretty good. The pozole has a lot of chewy hominy, along with a few chunks of pork. The green chili stew was nicely spicy, and it had a decent amount of ground beef and potatoes. The tortillas that the soups came with were mediocre. They were warm and fresh, but besides that, they were just like any other flour tortilla. And the sweet roll was disappointing. It was hard and cold, and it had very little flavor. If you're visiting from out of town, you may want to check out Frontier just for the experience - it's an Albuquerque classic. But I'd recommend you come just for a light meal or a snack - save your good meals for elsewhere, so you're not too disappointed here. read more

The only thing more famous than the international TV phenomenon Breaking Bad. Frontier is the OG sensation that put Albuquerque on the map. Never trust a New Mexican who says he hasn't eaten here (probably a Texan in disguise). Everything about the menu screams zia and yellow. And the best part is that they've found a way to successfully cater to both snobby foodies and broke-ass college students. Their Christmas enchiladas, chile stew, freshly squeezed OJ, and of course, the sweet rolls have fueled more research papers and graduation theses than UNM can count. Pro tip: For non-ABQ residents, you can bulk-purchase the enchiladas frozen and fly them home. TSA at the Sunport won't bat an eye. Parking is behind and beyond the restaurant. If you can't find it, it's just because you haven't been to Frontier enough times. A local gem that undoubtedly grew up with the city. When I was little, they used to have a couple arcade cabinets running Street Fighter II, and there'd be a crowd of patrons in front of the door, quarters in hand and itching to dethrone the champ at the time (this piece of history alone deserves five stars). They've since been replaced, modernized, made less "fire hazard-y" with those mix-it-yourself soda machines that are sadly only at Burger King in any other part of the country. Not sure where I'm going with this. Look, Frontier gets everything right. Trust me. And, to miss it would be a greater mistake than what Walt did to Mike during their final confrontation.
