He came right to my vehicle with a huge umbrella as a courtesy for us not to dine in soaking wet conditions. Homemade fresh and warm gluten free bread for dipping at the table before the meal came out. I had the Tofu dish. Delicious as always. I wish upon a star they would incorporate more vegan options on the menu or in their think box! Having the same meal every time I return is .... Well you get the point. Ordered the steak Au poivre Burger medium rare. The burger came out medium well and very dry. When I cut into the burger no juice came out. I ordered a rye old fashioned but the bartender must have been in training because the drink wasn't stirred properly so the ingredients weren't mixed together. Amazing meal for a five year anniversary. We got the Foie Gras, cheese plate, duck breast, and pasta with fresh truffles. There was an option for a rotating tasting menu that featured Italy (which apparently changes frequently), but my partner and I always have to try charcuterie boards, and this one did NOT disappoint! They even brought out a special homemade chocolate and coconut biscottis for me and my partner and wrote "happy anniversary" on the plate in chocolate as a surprise. I recommend this place if you want to have an intimate (and expensive!) dinner. It's totally worth it for the beautiful location, the wonderful flavors, and kindness of the staff. Especially during COVID--wishing them all the support and love, they made our anniversary feel extra special. Frogs End, and in general, Glenmere Mansion, is the sort of place where one generally cannot go wrong. Which makes the following review so much more distressing. Recently a friend asked me to lunch, I accepted, she said where? I said anywhere with a fireplace, (It was December and brutally cold). She chose Frogs End at Glenmere Mansion - always a good bet. Imagine my dismay as I was ushered to our table, the only occupied table in the room, which was rather darker than usual, the fireplace dark as well. I asked the waitress to light the fireplace - she said it was out of order, then edited that response by saying they couldn't light it as they'd placed a table in front of it. Might want to move that table, light that fireplace, make that room cozy and welcoming for winter guests. The food was fine, except for desert, 'Chocolate Decadence', not the least bit decadent and very cold. With marshmallows. Yuck. The service was not what we're used to at Glenmere - a little too familiar and passive/aggressive - I also witnessed the waitress being this way with an hotel guest, acting surprised she didn't recognize them when they told her they were repeat guests - intimating they had not actually stayed there before - quite awkward. I must admit I have found Glenmere's normally severely deferential service a tad over the top, but I'll take that over this sort of thing any day. We are longtime patrons of Glenmere and are saddened at the current state of affairs there. I trust this is just a bump in the road and Glenmere will get it together again. read more

We went on a Saturday night after trying to get reservations for the night before. We were seated outside in the atrium area not in the actual tavern. We had two servers that night, and they were both incredibly friendly and outstanding. The food was delicious. I had the BLT we had several appetizers and everyone enjoyed their main dishes. This is a cheaper option to the formal dining, and a little more relaxed- yet elegant. The property is beautiful. I'd recommend the BLT. I wasn't super crazy about the blood orange margarita, but I think that's a taste preference and I loved the General Tso's cauliflower! Delicious. read more

The Frogs End Tavern is the bar and informal dining venue (there also being a fine dining restaurant) at the Glenmere Mansion. How it got its name is another story. The mansion sits on a 150-acre estate that was originally the country retreat for the Goelet family, (one of the super wealthy early 20th Century NYS families hardly anyone ever heard of). Several years ago it was transformed into a luxury hotel and spa. People come here from all over the country, some arriving by helicopter. It's posh, even though it's in Chester, NY, an area better known for agriculture. Being in the area, we come here often and find that the tavern is the best way to enjoy the mansion, unless you are looking for the full spa/dining experience--which can be pricey. In season, rooms alone are $750 a night with a two night minimum. Food and spa are additional. By comparison, the tavern is both affordable, cozy and loaded with good food options. here are some tips on how to get the best experience at the Frogs End. Always make a reservation. It's a small room and hotel guests have first dibs. In the summertime, the tavern fare can be enjoyed in a lovely outdoor Italianate courtyard. For starters, I recommend the charcuterie board, deviled eggs, and hummus served on endive leaves. I also order two sides--the sauteed Brussels sprouts and sauteed mushrooms as starters. Along with generous complementary flat bread and olives, ordering this way can fill you up before you get to the main course, which for me is either the fish of the day or the trout. The wine list is extensive and has some really expensive wines. Surprisingly, it also has excellent options for less than $40. Ordering this way, without desert--which is excellent--may wind up costing you less than $50 a person before tip. The service is friendly and unaffected. I take away one star because there is a plate charge for splitting a course. read more

We started with the cheese platter which is a must have especially if you're drinking wine. The cheese is amazingly fresh and tastes like it came right from the farm. For my entree, I had one if the specials which was a seared duck breast with a fig demi glace and wax vegetables. The duck was cooked perfectly and was very tender. My wife had a shrimp and crab risotto which she said was delicious. The service was top notch. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard which gave the occasion a great vibe. The frogs end tavern is the best way to enjoy the Glenmere mansion, especially if you eat in the open courtyard under an umbrella with the fountain gently flowing in the center. The food is delicious and the service is relaxed. If you eat in the bar it can be noisy with people who don't know the difference btwn 'inside' and 'outside' voices. This is amazing because the hotel is so over-priced that you would expect the guests to have better manners. The courtyard is referred to as the 'courtile', an affectation which is also true of how they pronounce the original owners name. Make no mistake, the family to this day pronounces it as Gullet ( as in the throat) not as Goulet ( with a French accent. But if you get beyond that and can get a table you will have a surprisingly delicious meal and a divine evening. read more

I love the indoor room but prefer the outdoor courtyard in nice weather because the tables are spaced further apart and the trickling fountain is relaxing and helps blocks out conversation from other tables. Elegant yet not stuffy; friendly unpretentious service by waitress Cathy. Very creative chef; everything was delicious. I enjoyed the beet salad, veggie sliders and peach bread pudding dessert. Attention was made to presentation. Excellent wines by the glass. It is a pleasure to get a meal this good without having to deal with Manhattan traffic. You get what you pay for here. The service was out of this world. You never have to open your own door and they are attentive to all your needs. The food was also perfect. We had the best trout we have ever had and delicious homemade pasta. I would highly recommend this place. You do need reservations and I would recommend dressing up slightly even though they say there is no dress code. read more

Sadly, we were disappointed the last two times we came here. The food was still delicious, but there are other great restaurants in the area. What usually sets Glenmere apart is the service. It's usually superb (esp in the main dining room. Or ask for a young man named "Lane", he's so attentive! ) However, the last two times we ate at Glenmere, once in the Cortille and once in the Tavern, we were disappointed. Last week when we ate in the Tavern we had a super friendly waitress who was very polite. However, she forgot to enter our side dish in with the rest of the order and she placed the order after we had almost completed our main courses- which means it arrived when we had finished our meal. She could have told us that she forgot it, and we would have understood and said we didn't want it separately. But she didn't. She just placed the order late. So we had Brussel Sprouts as a first round desert. When we were ready to order desert, I told her I have a horrible, deadly nut allergy and I asked if one of the deserts contained nuts. She said she'd ask. She placed the order without confirming and after it arrived she still hasn't told me if it was safe to eat. I had to leave my seat a second time to go to the bar to ask her. (As with the side dish, she was impossible to call over, I had to walk to the bar each time). And there were no nuts in the dish. Which would have been nice to know before the ice cream started to melt on top. The tavern had some other patrons, but wasn't full. She was friendly and polite, but seemed more interested in polishing glasses behind the bar than serving. We go to Glenmere at least once a month, either to the Tavern or main dining room. But we're starting to get a little put off by the Tavern. We expect better service than that. (The waitress at the Goshen diner was more helpful! ) We usually go with family or friends to dinner, to show off how lovely Glenmere is, but we may choose somewhere else to dine next time. To be honest, we were EMBARASSED by the poor service and we apologized to our family (they were visiting from Europe). We'll still be back to the main dining room, but we used to love the caudal dining experience in the tavern. It's 50/50 right now when we'll eat there again. The Mansion was gorgeous! after dinner we had asked to have desert outside. The scenery was also amazing.

Last evening after making reservations 2 weeks in advance, we went to the Frogs End with 3 coworkers. Once inside the hostess guided us past the tavern and down a few hallways into an open lounge area. A long room with game tables, spa entrance, couches. A room I would expect to be in visiting a Florida nursing home. Bluntly, the room sucked. The room felt disconnected from the rest of the restaurant, no music, Christmas tree lights turned out in the middle of dinner, spa customers walking past us in white robes, very awkward. We were the only ones in the room, clearly an overflow. We were not told when making the reservation that we may be seated in this room. This is the second time this has happened to us in as many months. If you make reservations at the Frogs End, question the hostess about where you'll be seated. read more

For the money you pay here for drinks and dinner, i would expect more. The mansion has a beautiful view. The tavern is a small room, almost like a library. The chairs which looked cool are uncomfortable. We made reservations but did not need as we were the only folks in the tavern for awhile. We were served by the bartender. Although they had gluten free bread they said it would take 15 min to make which we decided not to bother. On the recommendation of the bartender I had meatloaf which was excellent. My wife had the filet mignon which was a tad over cooked and not much food for almost $40. We opted for dessert which were both good options. We were there about 2 hours which was too long in my opinion despite having appetizers and dessert. The bill came to almost $200. The bar prices are ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent place and food is good. Just not worth the money in my opinion. read more

Enjoyed dinner last night at the tavern with family. The house wines are good old reliables and there were lots of new items on the menu to pick from. The chef graciously offers to "customize" preferences and dietary restrictions allowing each of us to select exactly what we were craving. The salad of greens, beets, pralines, and dried cherries was delicious. I could have eaten the same as an entree. All would highly recommend the flatbread. Dinner equally impressed with scallops over zucchini and risotto, a pasta and an artichoke sandwich. We skipped desserts this time. Think it was a first. Many thabjs to the waitstaff, bartender, and everyone in the kitchen for a job well done. Can't wait for our next visit. read more
