In search of a caffeine kick, we found Frisson Espresso after lunch to finish up some work while sipping on espresso. I just have to say - this place was HOT. It was a nice and warm fall day outside so the heat inside was excessively unnecessary. I usually order a hot beverage in coffee shops because I can't replicate the talent of latte art that baristas can, and I don't have a milk frother/steamer for the hot frothy milk atop espresso. But it was so hot inside that I gave in to an iced latte. Coffee was delicious, nice and quiet inside for doing work. Hopefully the temperature inside will be more comfortable next time I visit! read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the staff here! Alex and Leah are incredible. After one visit they remember my order and me. The coffee is consistently good, the art work is out-of this world! I have also tried the spinach quiche which (if you don't mind a soggy crust) was really flavorful! It's a small coffee shop, but I've never seen it overly packed. I like to come here and have a latte and read some afternoons. There are so many options, but this is one you don't want to miss! read more

I stopped by Frission for the first time and was immediately welcomed by the friendly barista. He crafted a delicious cortado with a seahorse latte art...pretty creative! More importantly it was deliciously rich and perfectly textured. It's a small place but there are several small tables for one or two people to pause and enjoy the funky vibe. read more

Five Stats coffee shop in NY's TS/HK area. I came to this place by chance on walk around the area and I knew- right then- we had to had bfast here the next morning. Two lattes, 2 Kouign-amann, and one quich. Omg the Kouign-amann was PERFECT. i love this pastry. It is my absolutely favorite. I get it anywhere I see it avail. Man oh man do we love Frisson. While living in Hells Kitchen, it was hands down our favorite coffee spot - and that's saying something because there are a lot to choose from!! The baristas are SO nice at both locations and the quality is always a 10/10. Their baristas are well-trained and genuinely seem to enjoy being there which means excellent service. We go out of our way to come get a capp here even though we no longer live in the neighborhood. Flat whites, cappuccinos, iced lattes - it's always consistent. And if you're lucky you'll get some cheeky latte art too! read more

I specifically came to HK just to visit this coffee shop! I sat inside and ordered a vanilla latte and almond croissant, both of which were delicious! There is very limited seating, so I wouldn't recommend coming to this cafe to work. However, I noticed a lot of people inside were doing coffee chats, so this is probably just a good spot to catch up with friends. I really recommend this coffee shop! Their coffee seems to be a favorite, and my latte was really well made. I love how they have unique latte art too. read more

Great cozy coffeeshop. Their coffees are all delicious. Tried the standard drip coffee and lattes and they're all very smooth and no bitterness at all. Enjoyed my oat milk flat white a lot! The espresso tasted good- just the right amount of "strong" and had a good ratio of oat milk: espresso. Beautiful latte art! It was $4.75 + $0.50 for oat milk. This is about as low as a surcharge goes for non-dairy milk in the city I've seen (although I hope one day there wouldn't be an extra charge!). I've been on the hunt for great flat whites in the city and this one passes the test! Will return when craving some good quality espresso. read more

Was looking for a local shop while visiting from out of state. Coffee (cortado) was phenomenal, and the location is great. Near times square but far enough away from the chaos. But check this... I sat there for ~30 mins charging my phone, and the cashier incredibly seemed to know every single person walking through. Regulars, casuals... didnt matter. We were recommended this spot by a coffee buff so you know it'll deliver. My americano was beyond smooth without being light in flavour and my sister was happy with her iced latte. Great hole-in-the-wall and community vibe. Spotted a few great interactions with regulars. Great feel-good throwback pop music playing when we were there (Bruno Mars to All-American Rejects). Free wifi but I wouldn't recommend actually working here long term since the smaller space makes it a bit noisier. Great place to just hang out though! read more

The baritas are great here! Only get the ice coffee so can't speak on other things. Maybe folks don't understand one shouldn't review most coffee shops on their baked goods. They're usually sourced from some where in the city...or Jersey. Was not a coffee drinker, but after my trips to Italy, France, and Vietnam I've become an addict ;) I've popped into most coffee shops in NYC. There is something smooth and easy about their ice coffee or is it a cold brew oh well whatever. It keeps me coming back! read more

My latte enthusiast friend told me this is one of her favorite espresso locations in the area so I figured I stopped by after work to give it a try. The interior is pretty tight and small (only a few small tables and some bar seating) but well decorated. I decided to order a cortado ($4.25 + $0.75 for oat milk) since I wanted a stronger espresso taste. The latte art was beautiful (but if you want a swan or one of the other really pretty ones, you'll need to get a latte haha). Overall, the cortado was enjoyable. The espresso (medium roast with chocolate and fruity notes) taste wasn't very strong but it complemented the oat milk quite nicely. Maybe I'll get a macchiato next time for a stronger espresso! read more

Was here yesterday to get some work done, and was lucky to find a seat as I walked in! I got a cortado and a matcha, and both of them were incredible. The vibe inside was so warm, with christmas music playing in the background, and the baristas were so great to talk to! This is a cute coffee shop. The flat white was super smooth. You could tell that the quality of the espresso was really good. Also loved the cup it came in. I also tried a raspberry scone. Normally scones are dry but this one was flaky and delicious. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I'm always on the hunt for nice cafes to go for a good cup of coffee, a nice pastry, and good seating for some book reading. Frisson Espresso checks all the boxes. It's a small place tucked away so easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Seems to be the type of place that's the go-to for a lot of people living in the neighborhood since many people came in and out with their coffee orders. I got the window seat which was perfect. Holy Espresso... WHAT A LATTE!!! and it had a seahorse drawn on it. Too fun! Awesome vibe. Staff cares have awesome attitudes, and there's a loyalty card for returning customers. 5 2-top tables + a 5 chair bar. Great wifi! The plain cream one looks very angelic and attractive with the pale whiteness but for $1.50 more, I'd rather get a flavored version. Also I recall others saying that the plain one is a bit tasteless. The ssal cake ended up being super airy and light, even softer than a chiffon cake imo. It doesn't have oiliness, roughness, or acidity. Likewise, the cream matches the gentleness of the cake. The structure is interesting too, because the top layer of cream is thick, then a thin layer of cake, then a thin layer of cream, and a thick layer of ssal cake. When I eat it, I often get hit with the thick layer of cream on top while wishing there's more cake. Don't get me wrong, I like all components of it. I've had mugwort before but not super familiar with it. For those who've never had it before, mugwort tastes herbally and earthy kind of like the Chinese herb prunella vulgaris (?). The flavor here is strong but not in your face aggressive. I like how they dust the whole top with more mugwort powder which adds to the flavor and provides another layer of texture that's not overly dry (slightly messy tho!) I like how the mugwort is a greyish shade of green which honestly looks so chic and unique compared to other bright and colorful desserts nowadays. You can argue that the color looks dull, but I like it. My only complaints for the ssal cake are: 1) wish it came in a smaller size which would be easier to stomach (literally) and financially, 2) wish the cakes were in perfect squares. They're more rectangular without straight edges and 90 degree corners.

For over 10 years I've been an avid coffee drinker. I've been to Café Grumpy, B.Bottle, Stumptown, Irv. Farm, you name it, I've been there! However, I've never felt more inclined to give a coffee shop a yelp review that is until I started coming to Frisson. The staff here cares as much about the service as they do the espresso. One of the baristas brought my cappuccino and warm apple cardamom over to my window seat as I waited for a friend! Also, I love that they are so transparent as far as their pastry sources. It's great to know what you're paying for. I'm no stranger to Bien Cuit Bakery (they are delicious). I also love the mini pecan pies that Frisson serves from Las Delicias Bakery (well known for their gluten free options). Although my 9-5 is super exciting (ha), coming here is truly a highlight of my work week. I cannot ask for better quality, overall. I am working on my second loyalty card!!! read more

This is by far the best coffee shop in this neighborhood. I have tried their second location located at 3rd ave and my experience was amazing and therefore I was around hells kitchen neighborhood and decided to stop by at 47th st and again, I was delighted. This latte was superb and I just cant wait to go back. Thanks to the great baristas at Frisson Espresso I was able to enjoy a delicious latte with a special design for valentines day. This place is fairly close to Times Square but didn't scream as a tourist trap so we picked this for our morning coffee. The baristas are efficient and get your order to you quickly but I was fairly disappointed by my vanilla latte overall. The taste of any vanilla syrup was lacking and the latte had very little consistency. The service was good and the space is nice but with the amount of good coffee in NYC, I probably won't be returning. read more

I had a latte which came with some beautiful art and my friend had a black tea. This is a great little coffee shop. It's small and cozy inside, with seating for about 10 to 15 people. The staff was friendly, which made the visit even better. My oat latte was strong and flavorful, and the chai latte was nicely spiced and delicious. The only thing I'd change next time is asking for my drink to be extra hot. We feel in love with this place whilst we spent a week in New York. We visited most mornings the staff made us feel so welcome and by our second visit they knew our order. That coffee kept me up ALL night let me tell you, I had it at around 7ish PM and was super glad this wasn't a coffee shop that closed at 5 PM which sucks, and I didn't fall asleep until 5 AM LMAOOOO! It was ridiculous, but will def put some pep in your step on a very tired morning or a pick me up when you're about to crash. They also carry a chocolate tahini cookie that comes from "The Good Batch Bakery" located in Brooklyn. I've never had cookies from the actual bakery, but there's a health food spot in Jersey City called NÛRISH and I would get the cookies ALL the time. They are my absolute favorite and haven't had it anywhere else until this day. I didn't catch the barista's name, but she was very nice! I generally review coffee shops strictly on how well made a latte is and looking at the other photos it didn't look too great and I didn't have one personally this time around. Due to the bitterness of the coffee, I wanted to give a rating of a 3, but the cortado did absolutely what it needed to do and it was a nice surprise that they carried the cookies, giving it a 4 instead. Would love to try this place out again for a latte next time!
