Chicken Mozzarella Pastrino
Cara T.

I got a to-go coffee and wrap here and had a great experience! This coffee shop is right in the heart of Midtown. There are a few tables but not lots of room to sit. I would suggest doing a grab and go situation. The barista was very nice and thorough when taking my order. I had an iced latte and a chicken pesto pastrino. I have never had a pastrino, but it was essentially a wrap made of very thin croissant dough. I LOVED the wrap. It was super flavorful and almost had a salty/sweet combo? I'm obsessed and will be ordering again. The coffee was good, but not great. I wouldn't go out of my way to get coffee here, but I will be getting their wraps again and again!

Coffee is great. Vanilla Latte is not overly sweet, but smooth to drink. Coffee isn't too strong or burned beans. Both hot and iced vanilla latte is very good. The iced vanilla latte is much easily a faster to drink only because it's cold, but hot coffee just needs to cool a bit and becomes drinkable. Service is great. Staff are very nice, and listen well to the order. Place is roomy and can sit probably 20 people or so. The location is very, very clean and very close to 37th and 8th, nearby a few hotels in the midtown area.

I was looking for a quick coffee near my hotel and stumbled upon this cute little cafe! I ordered an ice coffee and was delighted by the flavors, super chocolatey -- which was amazing!! I must note the amazing barista who was working, a gentleman had abruptly entered the store in a very unpleasant tone asking for food. The barista handled the situation with such grace and ensured the gentleman could have a drink to prevent any situations from arising.

Visiting from Atlanta, this is a cool, friendly, and quick spot for breakfast and an afternoon snack. The staff is on point and actually greets with a smile. The Breakfast Pastrino is delicious and worth the wait. I also had a Gorilla Chilla, and boy was it good. Thank you to your staff for a very nice experience.

Best iced vanilla latte I've ever had. Right balance of coffee, milk and flavoring. I came back twice on my weekend trip to the city. Each time the staff were friendly, cafe was clean and had ample seating. I enjoyed drinking my latte, sitting in the front window, watching everyone pass by. I highly recommend you give Vanilla Gorilla a try.

Pretty good croissant wrap. That's a first for me. Enjoyed it with the breakfast option. They were able to customize without cheese. Service was efficient and friendly. Limited seating inside.

Convenient location and coffee was delicious. The line was long but the service was fairly quick.

Convenient location and delicious coffee. We both enjoyed our drinks. It was busy but service felt fast. Recommend if staying nearby

Swung by for a coffee. Very friendly staff. I got an iced soy latte and it was very good (just a tad expensive but what isn't expensive nowadays?). Their sandwiches look great and they have a small selection of baked goods too.

Mornilla Excellent breakfast egg sandwich w a sriracha spicy background. Very on point ingredients and fresh bread crunchy on the outside soft in the inside. Nice high ceiling bright and clean space. This comes in contrast w the overall meh midtown neighborhood which is admittedly the worst parts of midtown. If your hotel is near - that's a great spot to get the first meal of the day. If your work is near - that's a cool morning addition to your routine. Prices are standard midtown prices. Stuff was very direct and upbeat informative and fast. Everything looked very well organized. Not Starbucks vibe which was great to see. I don't get the connection of "pastrino" with a gorilla branding but I would welcome the idea of protein or health food offering in the menu to align w name and branding. They have a great selection of coffees and beverages and a very clear menu display. The place is busy in the morning. But doesn't get uncomfortably crowded. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu

Vanilla Gorilla Cafe's "pastrino" is pretty good but quite frankly I don't prefer this because it is a bit tougher/chewier versus the typical melt in your mouth deliciousness of a traditional croissant. I do like the combinations they've conjured up for fillings but for the price you can find much better options- I rounded up to 3 stars as their coffee is pretty good.

This morning I went to a new coffee place ( which was disappointing). I threw the coffee in the trash then bee lined over to Vanilla Gorilla! Should have stuck to my routine of going to Vanilla Gorilla. Moral of the story, Vanilla Gorilla makes the best coffee! From their espresso, to drink coffee, never disappointing!!

Love that my friend and I came across this spot while in the city! I once again got a vanilla latte, like I always do when trying new spots. I really liked the creamy and full flavor. Service was polite and ambiance is very much like a fast grab and go Manhattan small coffee shop. My friend got a Nutella cookie and said it was delicious!

Reuben Pastrino wrap

The cafe is nice and clean. The cashier Diego was friendly too. I got the reuben wrap and the flavor profile was nice and it was yummy. Where I had a problem is out the door it ended up being $19 and the wrap and really small and it just was not worth the price at all.

BUT, my husband and I recently took a trip to Paris and I also love pain aux raisins. To our delight, Cafe Bilboquet has those too, so my friend and I each had a small coffee and a pain aux raisins. The pastry was as good as any that my husband and I had in Paris! I've also had lunch here with a couple of other friends in recent months. They have a good variety of pretty authentic French sandwiches and some quiches, eggs, etc. Not inexpensive, but the food is top-notch. You order at the counter, then move up to the cashier, tell them what your order is and pay for it. If you're lucky, as we were around 9:45 this morning, you'll get one of the little round tables where you can sit and chat and relax; in good weather there are some tables outside as well; a lovely boulangerie or patisserie experience!

Upon getting closer to the door, I learned it's part of Le Bilboquet restaurant on the same block. It wasn't too crowded when I visited on a Tuesday mid-afternoon. Every table except 1 was full, but most people were heading outside on such a beautiful day with their drinks and pastries. The cafe is very cute and French. They have so many pastries I couldn't decide, so I ordered a pain au chocolat and tea. They serve Harney & Sons teas. This is a lovely spot, and I'll return to try more.

We started with a bottle of the Alsace wine, which perfectly complemented our food and the Parisian vibe. I opted for the omelette with Gruyère which was delicious, although I found myself very full by the end, as it came with two sides. The fries were a must-have -- so crispy, salty & fresh. I'd recommend that at least one person at the table order them, but the portion is pretty generous. :) The service was nice, albeit a bit slow at times. However, the staff was friendly and the overall atmosphere is chill -- we weren't in a rush at all! We had the raspberry tart and the milk cloud cake. Price points were very high, even for midtown pastries. I enjoyed the milk cloud cake because of the black tea infused cream really came through. The other bits in it were not as impressive--the small chocolate bits were dry and this viscous layer in it (tapioca?) lacked taste. The raspberry tart was very adorable with two macarons. The tart shell was a bit dry and crumbly, but if you like raspberry the flavor does come through in the filling. The staff weren't warm in any way, but we're in midtown which tends to be hectic, and we were there at the end of the day so it's not a dealbreaker or anything really egregious. The place isn't very spacious for seating, so unless you're coming at a time that isn't busy, you might not get a seat/I'd plan around getting your sweets to go. That was no problem for me this time around, though. Overall this place is cute, and if you're looking for an Asian-inspired treat in midtown before a broadway show (Wicked is nearby) this could be an option for you. I just wouldn't expect it to particularly standout in terms of price and quality.

I always get almond croissants from coffee shops but wow this one has to be one of my favorites. The crunchy (sugar?) top coating and the filling were delectable. I got one of the seasonal spring drinks, called "Karl" which is a banana cold brew with cold foam. I don't even like cold brews since they tend to be super strong and pretty bitter, and banana can be a hit or miss, but I enjoyed the hell out of this drink. It was a bit sweet, which I like, and the cold brew itself had a banana flavor when I had just expected it to come from the cold foam. I didn't sit or stay inside as I had to go to work, but there are a few (maybe 5 I think?) chairs along a bar counter on the side. Plants in the window too which I love. The barista was nice and made the drinks quickly despite being there by herself early in the morning (or at least I didn't see another employee).
