    Italian Hoagie (Half)
    Sarah M.

I've been to Frisch's twice this week and I plan to return often after the great experiences I had. On Sunday, we ordered the $8 pizza special, which is a large 1-topping pizza. It was good; not the most amazing pizza I've ever had, but it was tasty and a great price. Last night we got half an Italian hoagie and a chicken Parmesan sandwich. The chicken parm was a little plain for me, but my partner was happy with it. It was really large and he couldn't finish it. The Italian was also big, even though it was the 1/2 size! I took half home. It had lots of lettuce which tasted fresh. Both sandwiches came with fries, which had the perfect crunch. The dining room was busy at 6pm on a Saturday, but there was no wait to order and there were plenty of tables. Service was quick and friendly.

From the box - fish sandwich.. ohh the fries!!

So took me a day to get to write this .. but we tried Frisch fish sandwich this past Friday and while we typically think of this restaurant we thing of delicious broasted chicken and potatoes - hoagies ( you gotta try the Italian) and pizza... but now will have to associate fish during lent there too! We settled on the fish sandwich meal which was $11.95 for what you see pictures and does come with a drink .. oh the fries .... yes they taste as good as they look! The fish was delicious and it's on a Breadworks bun ( that was very fresh) .. had a little trouble getting though to order - hey it was a Friday night during lent - keep trying it's worth it! We probably could have gotten one and shared - there was def enough food. Well done to all at Frisch's ... I am all about supporting local places .. especially now .. so get out south hills and support this place and our other long time locals!

I had to stop into Fredo's after seeing photos from my daughter who had just spent two weeks in Bosnia. The interior of Fredo's is like stepping into a small shop you'd find in Bosnia. The yellow walls are welcoming, and cozy. There's a small variety of snacks, and beverages on one side of the shop, and a large counter where you'd place your order. There are a few tables for dining in, but I chose to take my order home. I ordered a small Cevapi and Sirnica, plus picked up some Croatian chocolate for dessert. The Cevapi were delicious skinless beef and veal sausages, that were nicely savory and well browned. A cup of chopped onions, and what I think was a yogurt sauce came with my Cevapi which added more flavor and an overall goodness to the Cevapi. A bread similar to a pita made eating Cevapi easy, and filling. The Sirnica was equally delicious. A wonderful mix of flaky, chewy phyllo pastry, and cheese baked inside the pastry. It definitely hit the spot with a nice balance of a light pastry and mild cheese. I ate the leftover half cold, and it was just as good! The lady at the counter was friendly, and patient with me. The menu is truly a deli menu full of sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. If you're wanting to go for the House Specials, you won't be disappointed!

They have a couple of tables inside for dining and we chose the one closest to the coffee bar. The one employee there took our order and made our food right next to us at the counter/kitchen set up located behind the register. We did see several takeout orders get picked up while we were there. My mom had the gyro salad and I ordered an Italian with no onions or dressing. My mom was disappointed that the "greens" were actually chopped romaine and/or iceberg. The gyro meat was flavorful and had a nice crisp to the outside and the homemade dressing was delicious. The Italian was also decent. I'm picky when it comes to hoagie rolls and this baguette was soft and fresh. I typically prefer more of a crisp exterior, but this was fine. The meat and toppings were fresh and the sandwich was served with a small bag of Lay's on the side. Overall, we had a nice experience dining in the small deli, but with so many options in the Pittsburgh area, I can't say we were wowed enough to be repeat customers.

The pickle dip with spicy cheese curds and homemade chips was so good! Quick note to self: sampling spicy foods while trying to fully appreciate a beer flight might not be the best strategy . Upon entering the place is very cute and spacious with plenty of seating both indoors and outside. Of course outside there are some games for the kids or adults. We were greeted immediately upon entering and was seated right away. Our server was nice but we had some things wrong with our order and just didn't complain. There is a good amount of options for Gluten Free people which is nice. When taking our order I asked how many sauces we could get I'd we got the 12 count of wings. He stated we could get 2. We ordered the Dry Rub and the Garlic Parm, we only got the Garlic Parm. We got the Buffalo Cauliflower for an appetizer. Some pieces were super mushy and I wasn't the biggest fan but my boyfriend thought it was pretty good. The wings though overcooked has a decent flavor. My son got probably the best deal in the menu but he said the Mac and Cheese had no flavor. He loved the tenders though he said they were really good. I like that they have a happy hour and they do have seltzer on tap which is nice. I got the Watmerlon one and it wasn't overbearing fake watermelon flavor it was refreshing and light. We didn't complain about the food because there was only one cook the day we went and it got pretty busy in there and he was doing it all himself. He was definitely overwhelmed and you could tell but he did a decent job. It did take a good while to get our food but again he was by himself. Id be back to try their burger when I looked over at the table behind me they got it and it looked super juicy, big and yummy!
