It's a fried chicken shop set up in a Valero gas station. It looks kind of sketchy. I didn't think I was in the right place because I couldn't see the shop or any signs of the shop. The neighborhood didn't look like the greatest. My wife almost didn't want me to go into the gas station. But, I was on a quest to find it. Service was okay. The guy helping told me to get 8 piece dinner which included chicken, greens and mac n cheese. They gave me more than 8 pieces with lots of them being wings. No complaints since I like wings. The chicken was tasty. Quik-It Chicken was an okay place for fried chicken. It was cheap, sketchy, and gave lots of food. What more can you ask for when you are a tourist in a new city? read more

Quik-It Chicken - Chicken Wings Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

I read a fascinating article in the free NorthSide paper about this octogenarian owner who is Manchester native. I had hoped to meet him but probably because it was a holiday, Juneteenth, I met a delightful young man. We ordered 2 chicken dinners. It is attached to the Valero gas station just off of Brighton Rd and not too far off of W NORTH. There are 2 doors. Take the door on the right. It could have been a pleasant walk from the AGH area, except it was 95 degrees out. But that didn't deter me. I had wanted to try this place. Our chicken pieces were HUGE and nicely breaded. There are many options for generous helpings of sides. We chose 2 mac-n-cheese. It was good, but I prefer a gooier stringier version. The greens were also good but spicy. Then there were apples and yams, which were tasty. Each dinner comes with a delicious corn muffin. And we got a bonus, 2 slices of apple pie, and 2 more corn muffins. Now you aren't dining at 40 North, but for the taste and the value, this is a solid option. You can see your choices on the "order now" option on their Yelp page. That's run by GrubHub and perhaps costs this tiny place money. Just go in. And did I say the chicken pieces are big and juicy. And we have leftovers. read more

Don't waste your money...I ordered baked potato...I got instant potatoes...Stove top corn bread stuffing.... Great tasting chicken (a tad salty for my palate but the family loved it). Reasonably priced and great options for sides. The corn muffins that come with every order are one of my faves. read more

Surprisingly good for it to be gas station based. I was fearful for the potential cleanliness but it was clean! I will say putting canned pears or peaches in the candied CANNED yams was...terrible, just not my cup of tea. But everything else was good for the price. For starters, don't let this pic fool you, my chicken came cold, this chicken has been sitting there for a long time, it was soggy and not cooked throughly. I had to put it in the air fryer to cook it and for it to get hard. They also threw in thighs and I only asked for wings so when I called the person told me that's all they had at the time. Why not call the customer and let them know before you make that decision. I'm not ordering from them again, I only ordered because my nieces like their chicken n I didn't have any to cook myself. This has probably been the 3rd time I've ordered from them and something's been wrong. read more

Sooo let me tell you how we ended up here. We are on a quest to try Pittsburgh's best through the alphabet. We started with places that start with "A", and go to "Z." The only rule is, neither I nor my girlfriend could have eaten there before. Let's just say that there are not a lot of "Q" restaurants around. Arrive at Quik-It-Chicken. A gas station/ hair salon/ chicken shack hybrid, it actually smells really good inside and even on the car ride home, our take out smelled amazing. The taste was close. I got the Quik Meal- a wing and a leg, with collard greens and a corn muffin. Chicken (on bone)- 3.3/5 The chicken was sitting out a while so I put it in my air fryer for a little bit when I got home which made it better. It tasted fine but could have been seasoned a bit more. I want to try a fresh piece of chicken right out of the fryer. Collard greens- 3.7/5 The collard greens are exactly what I expected, cooked right with a kick! Cornbread muffin- 4.6/5 But the corn muffin... let me tell you about this fluffy, moist, decadent, corn bread muffin... MMMMMMM! I'd be back just for one of these God's gifts to earth. Chicken tenders- 1.8/5 My girlfriend got the chicken fingers which sadly, were poorly breaded and very, very dry. Avoid at all costs. If you're in the area and want some fried chicken, stop in. You'll get your fix. Definitely get a muffin! read more

First, you will have a hard time seeing this place from the street. It is in the Volero Gas Station. Ok, now that you found it, the chicken... great. Those ribs.... OMG!!!! Fall of the bone tender with a house made sauce. It's like a honey mustard base with bbq and a kick. Can't get enough of it!! Their bbq is absolutely fantastic. The right amount of smoke flavor, falling off the bone meat, no gristle or fat. The fries were tasty and crispy. This was my wife and my first time trying here. We ordered through UberEATS. Uber screwed our order up the first time by not sending it through. After calling the restaurant, they were extremely helpful and got right on our order. The cons, for me, come down to my preference. I personally like a thicker red beans and rice, and a little more bbq sauce on my ribs. But that's me. Everything else was perfect. I hope one day they have brisket. It's been a very long time since I had a good BBQ brisket, and I feel like they would knock it out of the park. We will be ordering from them again. Amazing! read more

Quik It has been around for a long time and I remember my mom stopping by after church to pick up chicken for dinner or just to munch on. I was in the neighborhood and had a hankering for something soulful, so I stopped. I MUST say something about the appearance of the "joint". This is a gas station, restaurant and hair place rolled into one but separated by 2 doors. Talk about convenience...if you're into weaves n stuff. Lol The restaurant looks like a fast food establishment but nothing was inviting about it. There are signs advertising specials everywhere but they are very confusing because a few of them had different prices for the same combos. You're better off just paying attention to the board behind the counter. To the left of the counter are a few old greasy fryers and based on the looks of them, I doubt they work. No big deal but they're dirty and I just wonder why someone would put them there...of all places. Did I say they are dirty? The sides are set up in plain view, just like the picture on here shows. I'm addition to the items I selected, the case held stewed tomatoes, red beans n rice, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans and I may be missing something. There were sweets advertised on one of the posters but I don't remember seeing a list of what was available. The chicken is supposed to be the star of the show but, when I visited tonight, it was sitting off to the side with no warmer on and I didn't smell that just fried chicken smell. You know the smell I'm talking about. (Unless you've never fried chicken--- tell me it ain't so!) Anyway, I didn't feel like being inquisitive so I just went with the Quik It bowl which consisted of 2 sides and cornbread for $3.99. I chose greens and Mac n cheese to go. The lady who waited on us was very nice and offered up smiles which I truly appreciate. When I got home and tasted everything, it wasn't bad. I will even venture to say it was tasty. The greens were seasoned well. The Mac n cheese was the Stouffer type but a tad bit cheesier if that makes sense. It was the comfort food I needed on this chilly night. Now, the cornbread muffin may need its own review because it was HEAVENLY! OMG...it was like a sweet pillow of moist ground corn. Sorry, I can't even put it into words. Let me put it to you like this, when I saw my daughter almost throw away her untouched muffin, I was ready to dive across the kitchen to stop her from committing that sin! Lol It really was yummy! I plan to go back and visit to try the chicken from my past and then update this review. read more

I walked in, staff looked at me and didn't greet or acknowledged me. I waited as one of the staff stood near the cash register and did not make eye contact. Finally someone who was preparing food asked what I needed. I think people forget what customer service is and it shows in the lack of care in how they treat customers, especially first timers. Maybe it was just me... Positive is that the food was done in advance. read more

This was a pretty tight spot. I got a ribs dinner and it was pretty solid. The counter woman, who was lovely, picked me out solid ribs. For my sides I got a mashed potatoes which was good. I also got a mac & cheese which was pretty average in my opinion. The last side that I got was the cornbread stuffing and I thought that that was really good. My wife thought that cornbread was ridiculously good. I gave her my piece because I was full and I'm just an overall nice guy. read more

I placed an order via GrubHub and ordered the fried fish sandwich (comes w/fries), shrimp & fries, cinnamon maple muffin, mac and cheese, and cornbread stuffing. The disappointments: 1. The fish sandwich was described on the menu as having cheese and lettuce, but it was just fried fish on a bun and packets of tar tar sauce. 2. I paid extra to sub coleslaw for the fries in the shrimp and fries meal, but I didn't get the coleslaw...I still got the lb of fries with my fish sandwich. Would I say it was 2lbs of fries? I don't really know, but it was enough fries for me regardless. 3. Mac and cheese tasted like Nathan's famous cheese sauce on soggy pasta. The perks: 1. Price is very reasonable 2. The muffin did not have cinnamon which was disappointing but a good corn muffin and I love corn muffins. 3. Fish and shrimp were cooked really nicely. Super crunchy, not burnt, and good flavor. 4. Cornbread stuffing was very good. Seems like the chicken is very popular which I can't speak upon, but I think it's worth a try. I'd give it a second chance especially to try some coleslaw. read more

The chicken is okay. Not the greatest but still tasty. Their cornbread though is a whole other story. It's amazing and I'd go back just for that. It's very sweet and falls apart in your mouth. The ribs are also bigger than I expected and surprisingly sweet as well. I'd say go for ribs and cornbread. Mac and cheese was not my favorite but I'm not that big of fan of most macaroni and cheese in general so that might just be me. read more

I had the chicken wings with fries, REALLY great food. I loved it- I was half way through the wings before I got home ! Food tastes fresh and is slammin. Ohh and the cornbread I could eat cornbread until I slip into a food coma! The owner is super nice and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into the food he makes. There are a lot of sides too, I didn't get to try them but I will next time I stop in. Great food good prices, thank you Quik-It! read more

Love Quik-It and have since i was a little girl and they were on federal street. My parents would ask Pizza or Chicken on a friday night and my vote was always Quik-It. Revisited after realizing I was in the area and I had to stop. Best decision ever! Chicken - outstanding, Sides - great, corn muffin - come to mama! This review is totally a selfish ambition though since I see that the owner is very responsive on yelp. :-) Whatever happened to those really long and thick french fries? (I told you I've been a fan a long time!) I mean they were the best! I've searched high and low for them in the world but have never found another. read more

Shoulda done my research. I had very little time between meetings to order and then eat my lunch. I found this place through Uber Eats. Since I'd never heard of it, I thought "cool, a small business with homemade food and the menu looks amazing". I ordered quickly and then moved on to my next task. When it was delivered, I was really excited to try everything. Ribs, greens, baked beans, cornbread muffin, and, I was the lucky recipient of mashed potatoes that I didn't order, even better! (or so I thought) When it came time to eat, it was a much different story. The bbq sauce wasn't great, although the ribs were pretty tender. The mashed potatoes were a strange consistency, definitely not homemade. What really got to me was that everything had a strange after taste. And it was the same flavor across everything. I can't figure out what it might have been, it was more "chemical" than herb or spice. At first it didn't seem too bad, but a few minutes into my meal, it became overwhelming to me and I just couldn't do it anymore. Ended up throwing the rest out. Although the food is gone, the taste is still lingering. Just had a quick moment to stop and check out Yelp to see if maybe this was a one-off issue? From reading other reviews, I didn't see anyone reporting the same thing so maybe it's usually different or it's just my personal preference (I'm by no means a picky eater though and rarely give less than stellar reviews). However, it made sense to see that it came out of a gas station because it tasted like it came out of a gas station. Sorry, I really wanted to like it. read more

So my husband and I have been wanting to try this place, and we did today. We ordered ribs, "jumbo" wings, 3 sides, and corn bread muffins were included. The ribs were good, however the sauce makes them far too spicy. Definitely will ask for them plain or sauce on side next time. The jumbo wings are extremely small for being called jumbo, but seasoning is perfect. The mac and cheese I would not order again. The other people in the reviews must love KFCs mac and cheese because that's exactly what this tastes like. The collard greens were almost inedible they were so spicy. Green beans were good but basic and canned which is expected. The corn bread muffins though? OH MY GOD so moist and delicious. My husband doesn't eat cornbread, and yet ate 2 of these once I convinced him they weren't dry. The only other thing I have to say, is that the entire kitchen and dining area (even while it's closed for covid) could use a major deep cleaning. I was willing to give the food a try and would love to come back next time and see the grease buildup gone from the walls and equipment. read more

I LOVE, LOVE Quick It/Ava's Chicken even though they've been shut down a couple of times by the Board Of Health. I think most of the infractions were due to cleanliness. I still love their chicken, it's the best. I figure by the time they deep fry at a thousand degrees, then handle the product with gloved hands makes it safe enough for me. I've been ordering from Quick It for over 5 years, and not 1 problem. The staff is great, they work efficiently, they are quick, and usually very nice about it. I always tip accordingly and the employees are very appreciative. read more

I ordered the 20 wing meal. Its suppose to come with 3 sides and 5 corn muffins. I was pissed when I got my order and guess what's missing? The damn muffins. Great chicken! The location isn't fancy to say the least, but the chicken is legit! We got chicken for five and chicken for three. At first glance, Quik-It Chicken might confuse you. It's half of a little store that's part of a gas station. And the other half sells urban hair products. So it seems an unlikely place to get a good piece of chicken. But if you have the nerve to try it, I think you will find it worth your while. I ordered two individual meals, each coming with with two sides, cornbread and dessert. I decided to order a little bit of everything: both white and dark meat, collard greens, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. The fried chicken is simple but very good. I preferred the chicken breast and the wings were the big whole wings, not the tiny wing dings you get at a bar for wing night. The greens had a bit of a kick, which I actually enjoyed. The beans had a nice sweetness to them and the mashed potatoes were very creamy. The cornbread was moist and delicious. The mac and cheese was cheesy and good. When asked if you want apple or sweet potato pie, opt for the sweet potato. The apple is pre-packaged Sara Lee slices while the sweet potato, like everything else, I believe is homemade. I struggled between 3 and 4 stars. Based just on the food, I'd say 4 stars. But given the odd location, the fact that not everything on the menu was available (no chicken sandwich, which I was craving) and the cost (even for homemade food I thought it was a bit pricey) I landed on 3 stars. If you're interested in giving it a try, I'd recommend taking advantage of the deal on www.Restaurant.com. You can get $10 and $25 gift certificates. Well worth it if you're not sure if you'll like it but want to try some good fried chicken. read more

Always heard the chicken here was A1 so I decided to try it out I got six wings with two sides mac and cheese and greens wanted to try a bone or two of ribs but they were out of them! I would definitely go back but just for the chicken and fries next time because you can't really mess fries up read more

The wife and daughter wanted fried chicken on a Sunday afternoon and with a little checking around we landed on Quik-It Chicken. I placed the order over the phone and went to pick it up. Do not be frightened by the area/building. The interior is clean enough and the people are friendly. We ended up getting one of the meals with chicken, corn muffins, and sides. The prices are very reasonable and if I'm being honest down right cheap. My daughter was tortured with the 12 minute drive back home having to smell the glorious fried chicken. First, the sides. Corn muffins were definitely tasty, moist and full of flavor. All too often corn bread is bone dry, but these were delicious. The green beans were squeaky and not overcooked, just how we like them. A ton of water in the cup along with some diced onions. Cole slaw was finely diced mayo based slaw and good. Last side were the fries, they were the large pillowy steak fries that our family isn't a fan of. They tossed them in hot into the Styrofoam container rendering them soggy, oh well. The chicken though is why you'd come here. Crispy, crunchy as my daughter put it. I cannot stand when fried chicken is greasy and this wasn't, perfectly moist while having that crunchy exterior. Not much seasoning so I was happy I had some hot sauce at home. For the money you cannot beat Quik-It-Chicken. read more

The food is everything I could ever possibly want. The chicken was so juicy on the inside but crispy on the outside, perfect seasoning. My sides were mac and cheese which was great, and collard greens, which were the most flavorful greens I've had in my life. The corn muffin was super moist. The sweet potato pie was amazing. The staff was warm and welcoming. I let them know it was my first time so they walked me through their favorites. While I ate, they asked me how my experience was, which I appreciated. I tried to order delivery from UberEats and they didn't have what I wanted. Which is no big deal things happen. I was on the phone with the delivery driver who was at the restaurant. I don't eat bone in meat. It's just a weird preference of mine. My problem lies in the employee talking in the background. They offered to replace the chicken strips I ordered with something that had a bone. When I said I didn't eat bone in meat, the employee in the background said that I need to "not to be such a baby and take it off the f**king bone myself." As soon as I heard that, I immediately cancelled my order because that is absolutely no way to talk about a customer whether you think they can hear you or not. read more
