This is not a good restaurant. I should have known that any restaurant with the word "grill" in the name was suspect. In addition, the minute I saw the sign that said, "keep out - snakes" by the ditch out front, I should have cut out. I have been to some terrible restaurants in my life, but this one is the champ. Service...meh. Wine...undrinkable...probably because of being left open or corked. Food...inedible...the shrimp and grits smelled so bad, I knew I would be taking a risk by eating it. My wife's food was totally unpalatable. A frozen burger and greasy fries. Quality is dead, I give up. read more

I enjoyed this place so much. It is great for friends, family and kids. The folks here are super friendly. The food is delish. The rustic, country atmosphere and availabilty of outdoor dining with games and toys for kids and adults make it so relaxing. Also some fun musicians provide great entertainment. Food - lots of unusual dishez and regular favorites. We enjoyed fish/shrimp tacos, pork chops, sliders, grilled cheese, chips + queso, salad and lots more. *Covid-19 Health Concern* My family and I were less than thrilled to say the least. We walked in to see no bar tenders wearing a mask, other staff walking around the restaurant with no mask and staff going into the kitchen and handling food and drinks without masks, including the employee that brought our food to the table. We told the manager this was a huge concern and were assured that mask wearing would be enforced but saw very little change during the time we were there. The manager took 50% off our bill at the end of the meal but we will not be back until covid is over. read more

I am sad to write this review; I expected to write a raving review. We chose this restaurant to celebrate a birthday...9 adults and 2 toddlers. We arrived 5:15pm because the littles needed to eat early. We waited 45 minutes for our appetizers and another 45 minutes for our food. Some of our sides were wrong and the chicken fried steak (I love 'em) was awful! Tough, seasoned with paprika (?) and sad. The gravy was a white cheese sauce! I love cheese...but with a chicken fried steak? Warning...most of the dishes were spicy or had a spicy component. The only redemption was our waitress...she was fairly good, but offered no apologies for the slow food. Sadly, we won't be back. read more

Had Frio delivered one of few places thats not fast food or asian foods. Frio needs to change website to reflect Uber eats delivers. the food overall was good steak was excellent and the pork belly was delicious and rich. The chess pie was less than desirable not what we expected not a traditional chess pie and burnt crust on top of that. like most places you can't alway be perfect. they nailed the main courses. This place is amazing. We had my Mom's 88 birthday party here on February 11, 2023. There were 33 family member's in our party. The waitress was amazing. Handling all my family for this special occasion. She worked extremely hard with NO complaints. Always with a smile. If anyone ordered a drink, food or napkins she was right on it. I wish I remembered her name. I would recommend Frio Grill to anyone. I cannot thank you enough for making my Mom's 88th birthday a complete success. I live in Austin and will definitely come back. I was looking forward to having a chicken fried steak from the Frio Grill and they closed for an hour from 3pm to 4pm. I got there at 2:54pm to order the chicken fried steak and two other meals to go. The waitstaff were great and tried to get my order served but either the management or kitchen staff had me wait for 12 minutes to tell me that they were not going to make my order because it was too close to closing even though they were not going anywhere just getting ready for opening back up at 4pm. I've worked in customer service many years before I started working in public service. If the customer is there before you close then the customer is taken care of because they pay the employees salary. I am a person with multiple friends and acquaintances that ask where to eat because I'm a foodie. I had been looking forward to trying this dish but to no avail it did not happen. I have gotten multiple meals to go from them but now that will change. Thank you serving staff for your great service while I was there but the kitchen or management leaves much to be desired. read more

Highly recommend the stuffed tater tots and spicy fried pickles to start! The tater tots are huge and the fried pickles are spears instead of slices. The chipotle sauce that both come with is tangy and amazing! BIL got the Guadalupe burger and somehow ate the whole thing. Husband got the stuffed chicken fried chicken which he said was delicious--especially the gouda in it. Mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. I had the beef tip kabobs which had great flavor and were juicy and cooked to order. The skewer also has red onion and bell pepper and is drizzled with a yummy cilantro sauce. We enjoy meeting up here with our baseball teams. They can accommodate large groups on their outdoor patio and have a turf area for the kids to play football and games. Food is great. Personal favorites are the shrimp and grits & the buffalo melt. Service is always great and very accommodating. read more

Wasn't the least bit curious why someone would order food, and not even eat it. My finances grilled chicken sandwich looked disgusting, tasted even worse than that. She had some kind of ham that came on it, and it looked like the cheapest deli meat you could buy in the grocery store. Place was absolutely terrible. YUK UPDATE!!! We decided to give this place a try after hanging out at the Houston Outlet Mall and we were not disappointed! We were seated right away and was greeted nicely by the hostess and our waiter Tony. It was our first time here so we had a lots of questions and Tony happily answered them and he also helped us pick the dishes. I don't understand why Frio Grill takes reservations but then refuses to staff accordingly. And then when I went to the bar to order something to drink, not booze, the bartender told me that I had to order through my waitress?!?! We have been waiting an hour for the poor single waitress that is trying her hardest to take all of the orders outside. Very sad. No, we have been here at least 6 times and it has always been the same. The kids love it because they can play outside. But, forget trying to actually get food or drinks. read more

The ham that was advertised on the sandwich I Pictured in my mind it would be a thick piece of ham...nope. The ham was basically deli meat ham. The bread on the sandwich wasn't fresh either. My fiancé's burger was so inedible. He ate two bites and left the rest. His French fries were seasoned well but soggy. We couldn't find our waiter when the food was delivered so we had to go to the bar to ask for mayo and mustard. We were also concerned that the waiter didn't even acknowledge that the burger was pretty much still whole on his plate and didn't ask why. Wow. How have I never been here before? Great neighborhood bar & grill. I got the fish tacos and they were off the chain. My wife is a little bit of a taco snob and she tried mine and loved them. The wife got the west Texas pecan crusted bourbon chicken and it was the bomb. And the mango habanero dressing on her salad was amazing. For dessert we had a west Texas pecan skillet a la mode. Seriously, as Yelp states for a 5-star review, simply as good as it gets. We dine at Frio Grill at least twice a month and have since it opened. It is easily one of my two favorite places to eat in Houston next to my favorite BBQ place.On the two main fronts, service, and food, it's a home run. Every single time. Their dishes are all thoughtfully made and have a taste that I haven't found anywhere else. We usually enjoy the Compuesto Queso for an appetizer which is some of the best I've ever had, besides maybe Kerbey Lane in Austin. I usually get the Quesadilla or Chicken Fried Steak if I'm really feeling hungry. The portions are large and we usually leave filled up if not over filled, which is great because their prices are a bit steep. This is easily evident in the food. Nothing packages, frozen, or tasting of pre-made stuff. Service. Amazing. Easily some of the most attentive waitstaff I've ever encountered. It reminds me of my all time favorite place in Austin. People will come by even if not assigned to your table, to fill up your glass and take your dirty dishes. Everyone is incredibly friendly and attentive, it makes for a real treat. Atmosphere. Usually we attend on Friday nights when there is music. This is really the silver lining of Frio. It's a place you want to really enjoy for a few hours with your food and impressive drink menu. The only negatives I can think of are really the kids. It is a family friendly environment however parents like to turn their kids loose on the grounds and let them have free reign. It has a spacious 'yard' for kids to play but sometimes they find their way inside and run through the restaurant, although this is not as much on the Restaurant as much as it's on the parents that bring their kids there. I have seen wait staff have to tell kids not to run inside the establishment. Overall Frio is amazing. Places like this have a tendency to be a bit more fluff than substance, but Frio delivers every time. read more

We decided to try something new in the area and I'm so ashamed to say I have not made it to the Frio with living a few minutes away. We had movie reservations and by the time we got to the restaurant I highly doubted we'd be able to enjoy our meal in time. A larger family is like bearding cattle at times! Valerie was our waitress and she was awesome! I told her we had a movie that we needed to get to and amazed how quickly the food was brought to our table. I had zero complaints about it all. I had the Texas Quesadillas (forgot the actual name) with Mac-n-cheese. Yes, I've been eating healthy and no I did not care this time! Super good. I tasted all the dishes on the table and none of them disappointed. Valerie's brought our check and to go boxes quickly and we were out on the exact moment we needed to depart.
