Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes
Leah W.

This is my second time trying Union Kitchen at a different location and i've been left underwhelmed both times. I ordered a kids grilled chicken tenders with a side of mashed potatoes along with a kids mac and cheese. Not only were the chicken tenders bland but the chicken was sooo tough. I also had tough fried and bland chicken tenders at the Humble location. It seems as if they're cooked from frozen but I don't know. As for the mac and cheese I like that it was a homemade sauce rather than kraft but it tasted nothing like mac and cheese sauce. Instead it tasted more like a garlic alfredo sauce without the parmesan. The only okay thing was the mashed potatoes. I liked the garlic flavor in them but I could've went without the parmesan cheese in them. Overall, I haven't been pleased with anything i've ordered from here so not sure if i'd recommend.

I had a birthday dinner here many years ago when it first opened and happened open this restaurant again today for an early lunch with a dear friend. We planned to go somewhere else, but it wasn't open yet. I'm so glad we decided to come here because they have brunch on Fridays, and it was the most incredible meal! My friend and I are total foodies, and very particular about what we like to eat. Just perfection beginning to end, service was stellar, the chef and manager both came out to great us at our table, and we got a free round of the most amazing beignets I've ever had! I had a steak omelette with a side of bacon. The omelette was absolutely delightful! The flavor profiles were similar to steak fajitas in omelette form. The breakfast potatoes were perfectly seasoned and super fluffy. Very generous portion for the price. Cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant. Ambience and decor were delightful! My friend had the Belgian waffles with strawberries, scrambled eggs and sausage. She is very particular about her hot tea, and the tea served was very high end and right up her alley. Bravo!!!! I forgot to take a pic of the beignets because we completely demolished them! How generous of them to give us a large sample!

We came here for an early dinner but were quickly put off. We ordered the bang bang shrimp and they were fine, a little overly sauced and not crispy at all. I also ordered an espresso martini and it just tasted watered down and had an off taste to it. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich which was very underwhelming, the cheese looked halfway melted and lacked flavor. My MIL and I decided to split a brick oven pizza and truffle fries. The truffle fries were not warm at all either. The first pizza we received was burnt and didn't look like the pizzas from the reviews crust wise. We sent it back and received another pizza that still looked a bit off. We asked for the manager and she said that's what you get when you order a cauliflower crust pizza, but I never asked for that. Then our server tried to say I did. There must of been a language barrier because the only thing I asked for besides our food was crushed red pepper on the side. By the 3rd pizza they got it right, but we were just ready to get out of there by then. The manager comped the pizza for us but we just wished they had gotten it right the first time. If our server would have read back to us what we ordered it could have cleared it up before he input it. The view is great, but the food experience was one of the worst I've had here.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was super packed. There was a nice patio on the outside. We ordered the eggrolls, breakfast meatballs, and a union kitchen bowl. It was okay. Maybe it was just those dishes because their food looks delicious! The service was phenomenal!! They consistently checked on us and the food was quick.

The eatery offers a broad range of dishes -- from brunch favourites like the steak breakfast burrito and truffle mac & cheese to dinner fare including steaks, chops and seafood. It strikes a nice balance between casual and a little elevated, making it suitable for family dinners, brunch with friends or a more relaxed date night. Dishes like the crab & tuna tower and lobster grilled cheese get positive mentions for flavor and freshness. I'd give The Union Kitchen in Houston a very strong 4 out of 5. It's a dependable, pleasant restaurant that delivers on atmosphere, service, and food in a neighborhood-friendly setting. It may not always deliver fine dining extravagance, but for what it aims to be--a well-executed, comfortable, somewhat polished American dining spot--it hits most of the right notes.

During my trip to Houston, I found a beautiful restaurant by the lake that made the perfect lunch stop. The peaceful view and breezy patio created an ideal setting. I ordered the crab cakes, a burger bowl, and fish and chips....each dish was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The service was friendly and quick, making the whole experience even better.

Tyler's Chicken Pasta (good tasting and filling)

I had lunch here a week ago for the first time . It is located in the Towne Lake entertainment center which is always a pleasant place to visit. Parking is in several adjacent parking lots. Union Kitchen has both inside and outside patio dining (with nice furniture) facing either the lake or the Center's common area. I ordered Tyler's chicken pasta entree for $20. While waiting on my meal, I admired the attractive dining room that features an open kitchen. UK has a nice upscale vibe to it. The meal arrived less than 15 minutes later. In the bowl was grilled chicken with garlic mixed in a sun dried tomato cream sauce over fettuccine. This was a very good tasting meal. I really liked the tomato sauce and thought it mixed well with the garlic chicken and pasta. It was filling too and our table service was prompt and attentive. For my first visit to a UK restaurant, I left very pleased and vow to return. I believe this is a very good choice for a delicious meal in a nice setting.

The food was amazing as always, as well as the view. The Arnold Palmer was good also and my sweet treat the key lime pie is always a hit. Our server was very friendly and accommodating definitely will be back again.

My husband and I went to the Union Kitchen on a quiet Tuesday night. We have been there quite a few times so we knew it would be good. The service this time was shaky-it took forever to place even drink orders and then filling them took longer. Eventually the manager came out and told us that they were dealing with an employee issue, and that they were slow due to that, but offered us a free appetizer due to the wait time. We ordered the calamari, which was excellent-it was warm and crunchy and there were cheese crumbles that made it extra special. For dinner I had the lobster grilled cheese, which was excellent. It came with house made potato chips that I didn't eat-they were quite soggy and there was so much other food-i didn't need them anyway. It also came with a cup of tomato bisque, which was perfect. My husband had the chicken fried chicken, which was also good. When paying the bill we noticed they gave us our appetizer at half price instead of free like they offered, which we thought was strange-but we had planned to buy it at full price originally, so we didn't say anything. In any event, we enjoyed our experience and will go back again to enjoy their delicious food.

This is now my third time at Union Kitchen. Every dish that I've ordered is absolutely delicious. My steak was perfectly tender. The veggies were soft but still had a bite to them and the mushroom risotto was delicious!

I will give this place a solid three stars. Based solely on the service. AJ was amazing! The chicken satay skewers were pretty dang good. However, they missed two of the skewers with the satay sauce. Which was really good and basically the point of a satay. The slaw was pretty decent as was the sweet chili sauce at in accompaniment. The downfall was the hummus. It was basically just ground, chickpeas, very little spice, which seemed to have been applied to the bread instead of the actual hummus, and with no oil. No oil and hummus? This is like driving your car without motor oil. It's gonna be dry, flaky, and nasty and eventually going to go very wrong. Which it was. Luckily this was remedied by me asking for some olive oil and a copious amount of salt. Mmmmm. Salt. The drinks were pretty good. My martini, twist of lemon, sweet vermouth came out quickly, but after our food? But the bar ran out of lemons. What the fluff!?No lemons at a bar? AJ came to the rescue again and brought me a lemon twist to put in my martini after he was able to procure some. Again fantastic service by the wait staff. My girlfriend's whiskey sour was so chunky you basically needed to chew it. Apparently they did not pruree the fruit well enough to make it a drink. Not a smoothie. Based on the location, sitting by the lake, and the outstanding wait staff (way to go AJ!!) I would' come back and give this another go. I really did like those chicken skewers. Rock solid three stars for now.

I recently tried Mia's Table and came away with mixed feelings…read more I ordered the 12 oz ribeye steak with mashed potatoes, cream corn, and fried onion rings. The steak was honestly the highlight of the meal. It was cooked well, flavorful, and easily the best thing on the plate. Unfortunately, everything else ranged from mediocre to disappointing. The fried onion rings were extremely salty and just not enjoyable. The mashed potatoes were also overly salty, which made them hard to eat. The cream corn was okay, but nothing particularly memorable. What Mia's Table does really well is the atmosphere. The restaurant has a lively, family friendly environment, and it was packed when I visited. They also have a self serve ice cream bar, which is a nice touch for families with kids. If I were rating solely based on ambiance and overall vibe, I would probably give it 4 stars. The frustrating part is that I spent about $26 on my meal and ended up only really enjoying the steak. For that price point, I expected the sides to be just as good as the main dish. Overall, a great atmosphere and a solid steak, but the food quality was too inconsistent for me to rate it any higher.

I tried making reservations online all week but couldn't find an option. I even called the day of and no one picked up, so I was a little nervous walking in without a reservation. Thankfully, they were able to seat us right away--apparently a lot of reservations had canceled or no-showed. The place itself is super cute. Not too busy when we first arrived, but it definitely picked up at one point. Everyone was friendly when we walked in, and the wine specials were amazing. I ordered the Pinot Noir flight, and for the price, it just made sense--totally worth it. Now the food... SO good. Everything was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. We tried the empanadas, the ceviche, the mussels, and I got the steak with shrimp (not sure the exact name). It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus, and honestly it was phenomenal. I'd come back just for that dish alone. I definitely want to return for happy hour and maybe another girls' night. The only downside: our first server. I'm not sure if he was flustered, annoyed, or just having a day, but his energy toward our table was not it. We came out to relax and get away from attitudes at home, not to deal with more. He seemed impatient and uninterested, didn't offer recommendations, took our order and rushed off, and overall treated us very differently from the table next to us--who he was super sweet to, even giving them a hug at one point. I was the first one there and he was nice initially, but once the rest of my friends arrived, his whole demeanor changed. We asked for a different server, and that made ALL the difference. The second server--the gentleman with the bald head and beard--was phenomenal. Patient, helpful, friendly, and made us feel welcome. 100% recommend sitting in his section! Overall, the prices were reasonable, the drinks and food were delicious, and the vibe was great. For context, he is a service animal and was wearing his vest. He's a small Shihtzu. He's stayed calm, quiet, and under the table the entire time. After we got our drinks... nothing. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour and no one ever came back to take our food order, check on us, or acknowledge us. Meanwhile, the same waiter was actively serving every table around us..taking orders, bringing out food, and engaging with guests just not with us. The only time he came back was at the very end... to drop off the tab for our two Micheladas. That was it. Never once came to take our order for appetizers or food. We weren't rude, weren't demanding just sitting there talking with each other, catching up and waiting like any other customers. At that point, I was so disappointed I didn't even want to say anything. We just paid and left. I've never felt so overlooked and honestly, it felt like discrimination. I don't make that claim lightly, but when you're the only table not being served, it's hard to ignore. What's even more disappointing is that I've been to the Ambriza Cinco Ranch location multiple times and always had great service, even celebrated my birthday there.
