Child friendly atmosphere in a diner setting. The real star is of course the ice cream but their gargantuan entrees will bring sunshine of happiness. Service is attentive and somewhat efficient. Party of three and sometimes my party of two with my former love our entrees were served somewhat promptly in a good timely fashion. Private parking lot in true Long Island fashion. Price is reasonable. Friendly's is comfort food for the broken to dispel all anguish. read more

My review is solely based on service and professionalism. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a Friendly's, and I was pretty disappointed. As someone who used to live local, and loved frequenting Friendly's for meals and dessert, I was really excited to return for breakfast, especially since I no longer live close by, and have no local Friendly's by me. I dragged my family here practically kicking and screaming, as I had been dreaming of their grilled cheese for months. As huge foodie, being lactose intolerant, my love for the classic american grilled cheese has never faltered. And, as someone that has had grilled cheeses from multiple known establishments, Friendly's is my hands-down favorite. It's not fancy, or crazy, or picture worthy, it's just your classic grilled cheese, perfectly made between crispy, buttery sourdough. So even though my family was dying to eat at another diner, I dragged them here to reminisce. And boy did they want to kill me considering the service! So we walk in, and walk over to the hostess stand to be seated. Except there's no hostess to be found. After a couple of minutes, I see a waitress walk out of the kitchen, and look over our way, and roll her eyes with the biggest attitude. She did not seem pleased that she had to come seat us. After being sat and deciding on what we wanted, we waited and waited for a waitress/waiter to come. It took almost 20 minutes before we were greeted by someone and had our drink order taken. We then came to find out that there were only 2 servers on duty at this time. Now, while the diner was not ridiculously busy, it was certainly too much for only 2 servers. Being Memorial Day, one would think that management would have been smarter, and had more people coming in, but hey, who am I to decide right? Anyways, we finally were able to order, and get our food, but considering the wait time and attitude seen from the other waitress, my family was not pleased. I have loved Friendly's since I was a kid and felt like having a nice throw back lunch. We had Dahl as our waitress. She was so nice and was on her game. Food is still good. But if you are looking for a five star meal you aren't getting that at Friendly's and need to lower your expectations. For a simple lunch and ice cream this place always does the trick. I hadn't been the a Friendly's in so long that when I went, I felt like I was zapped back into my childhood. The ice cream was just as good as I remembered it. With the waffle cone? Mm-mm. The burgers and sandwiches are very good. The breakfast(which is now all day) is good. I got the Big-Two-Do with cinnamon roll pancakes(for .99 more), scrambled eggs, and bacon. The Munchie Mania(3 appetizers) is a nice meal. It is the only appetizer not included in the half-priced apps. Everytime I go, I get a Waffle Cone. It is so good, the only thing I have to say is the paper that goes around the cone has glue that sticks onto the cone. read more

I had a horrible experience at this Friendly's location and I don't think I'll be going back. I came with a party of 5 and it took us about 20 minutes to get seated. There was no hostess at the front. There's was one person at the take out counter and two waitresses on duty. One waitress came and almost sat another family who came after, before us. I had to speak up and let her know we where here first. So rude on the family's part. It took us another while the get out order taken. We then waited so long for the food and the plates came out staggered for our party. Food was not bad. When it came time for the bill, it took us another long while to pay. read more

Either being in LI or on vacation, finding Friendly's was a real treat. Friendly's fits the bill of satisfying unhealthy American cuisine. Every tourist outside the US should make a pit stop at Friendly's. My favs are the tuna melt and the chicken quesadillas. I choose the chicken quesadillas appetizer for my entree. A bit disappointing with the size of the quesadilla - yes, I know it is an appetizer portion but back in the day, this was a bigger portion. There is a chicken quesadilla entree but it includes rice and who wants to eat rice with quesadillas? My brother, who was my date companion went all out for unhealthy junk - the munchie mania build your appetizer. He got the waffle fries with cheese, sliders and quesadillas. Of course, I ate some of the fries. Our ending was a happy one with me getting pistachio and cookies n cream with hot fudge and he got some chocolate specialty sundae, with him it's something with chocolate. What would I do without Friendly's? Yes, this location was great to go to after a long afternoon at Jones Beach. Exit M5 of the meadowbrook. Friendly's is a chain but since I didn't grow up with it, I have more of a fondness for it than I otherwise might. Going to this one in particular was a good experience today, especially since there are none near my neighborhood. First off, the server was very attentive. This has not always been my experience at Friendly's. I didn't even have to look at my watch when I sat down to determine if I'd have to use the 10 minute rule. Second, the food was good. I've never had problems with the food at Friendly's though it is a bit heavy and depending on what you get, can be greasy. Finally, the ice cream is top notch. Had my first Friend-zee today and it was also good. Very basic, standard fare though if you don't like older people or young children, you probably shouldn't go to Friendly's. read more

Not sure what the dysfunction was but we stood at the counter twiddling our thumbs until they could get to us. No one was at the counter ahead of us. This Friendly's location is great for kids. I have 3 toddlers and they're all nuts, especially when they eat sugar. So we like taking them here because they wait staff and other customers are very patient and (excuse the pun) friendly. Today, our waitress was Gerrianne and she was excellent! Every single time we come here. My kids loooove the cool drinks they have, one is called sharks in the water. It has gummi sharks swimming in a blue colored sprite. The kids meals are very cost effective and come with an ice cream. There are healthy options if you want, most people don't realize this. Keep in mind they are friendly... Not fast, and not always accurate with the order, but always friendly. A great place for a toddler's birthday dinner. read more

I was skeptical but I just said ok cause it was my friends birthday. Anyways we walk in and get seated and get no service at all until one of our party members decides to ask a waitress for service til we wait another 20 minutes. Once the waitress finally comes over she takes our order and then it takes 40 minutes to get just our drinks. While this is happening my party here's a chef gag in the kitchen. That was the last straw for me but my friends insisted I stay. Finally once the food comes I ate probably one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. The food which is definitely wasn't cooked all the way was tasteless and downright disgusting. After all of this I never want to eat at any friendlys again and this garbage chain should have stayed in the 20th century where it belongs. Went here with my husband around 12:00 pm. Place was empty. My husband and I both ordered the patty melt. He wanted medium rare and I wanted well done. They came out about 15 min. later and both well done. My husband asked for raw onion instead of fried. He got fried. Red onions fried... both burgers were small and tasteless. Fries were hot and good. Afterwards we each had a seniors sundae. Pistachio ice cream was great. The pistachios were big, fresh and good. Let's pretend I came here because I'm babysitting 3 kids...not because I love the Reece's Sundae ... Service - actually pretty friendly. The servers are mostly teens, but they are efficient and great with kids. Ice Cream - They should get 5 stars for that...All of their sundaes are good. Some of our family favorites include the strawberry shortcake, banana split and the kids Monster Mash. There's even a cool sandcastle one that, while overpriced, includes a great sandcastle bowl for the kids to take home. Food - They would get about 2 stars for food. For kids, you can't really go wrong with mac & cheese or chicken fingers - as long as it's not their everyday meal. But for adults, it's hard to find anything great on the menu. I ordered sliders and they were the most dry-looking slices of beef on dry bread and stiff cheese I've ever seen. Not even appetizing enough to take a bite out of! You could go for the fried fish, shrimp, etc, but it just doesn't appeal to me. The most decent thing they ever had was a crispy chicken salad, but I didn't see it on the menu this time around. Cleanliness - I understand it's a place where kids come and create disasters, but must the table be sticky? Just had to put in a comment for a really nice experience I had at this particular Friendlys. Went in to treat myself to a three scoop sundae. A young man named Brian served me. He was exceptionally patient and polite. I had changed the flavors I wanted and right after that I decided different toppings too. I apologized for changing my order and each time he assured me it was no problem. It was his pleasant disposition and manner in which he spoke to me. I noticed that the rest of the staff that was working there that night were equally pleasant. Our waitress Heather was the only positive in the whole visit. Heather was the only waitress working, and she was doing her best, but she is not a magician. Although she was working alone, and not all the tables were being very patient, she stayed positive. ok, now for why it is one star.... everything we ordered was wrong!!! We had to get up and pay at the cashier because she took so long to give us our check. Restaurant wasn't even that full. One of our eaters wanted orange sherbet which they didn't have anymore. She told him when everyone else got their ice cream. We weren't going to wait so we ate our ice cream and by the time we were all done she brought his. He asked for a plastic spoon to take it to go and it took her a good 5 minutes. Dessert: Ice cream was ice cream. Prices were decent because there was a special going on that we didn't know about.
