I really do like the tacos here. I got pescado and al pastor tacos. They were both delicious and fresh. I liked that they added red cabbages to the tacos which gave this crunchiness to the tacos. This place was solidly delicious. I visited on a Monday evening with my father and two kiddos. It was just after 6p. We were seated immediately and didn't have to wait long to put in our order. We shared the chicken quesadilla, the steak burrito and the small/side queso (not listed on the menu). The queso was awesome. It's served in a hot skillet. Once it cools, it does firm up. But I took that as a sign of real cheese being used. Lol. It also had corn in it which makes it extra delicious in my book. The chips were the thick and extra crunchy kind. I couldn't believe I hadn't been to this restaurant as we are "groupies" of this restaurant group (Mamas, Ottos, Standard, etc.). We ordered the queso to start and the taste was amazing and unlike other quesos. It had sweet peppers and corn in it with housemade chips. I ordered the cauliflower taco and the Brussel spout taco. Both were delicious. The Brussel spout taco had more flavor than the cauliflower. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich with a side of their Mexican street corn. The corn was not good at all - it was like they took a can of corn and put it in a fancy bowl and charged $7 for it. The service was fine - wasn't great but wasn't terrible. I would say this was our least favorite of their restaurants. read more

I got invited here with friends and I'm so happy I came. Frida 602 is very cool. They have a rather long list of tequila and mezcal. You can even order flights to try a variety. Reasonably priced as well. Additionally, they serve beer, wine, margaritas, and cocktails. You could def come here just to drink. I think they have specials on certain nights, too. I had the strawberry margarita. It was really good and honestly had a lot of alcohol in it for $8. I am a lightweight so if I drank the whole thing I'd probably be a little buzzed. This is probably more exciting for those with a higher alcohol tolerance. Food: a really fun variety and something for everyone - including vegans. I can't wait to come back to try more. I ordered the ensalada de arugula. It was a pretty decent portion in my opinion - could be someone's entire meal. The citrus-chile vinaigrette was awesome and really unique. Elote: okay this is my weakness and it is hard to come by here in the Cincinnati/NKY area. Was it the best Elote I ever had? No. But was it really good? Yes. I would come here just to get an Elote fix. I think $5 is a little high for one piece of corn but I also ate here when it technically wasn't in season. Frida 602 also serves mission style burritos and tacos. One person in our party ordered the burrito and it looked so good. It was very large and I can see someone splitting it or taking half home for a second meal. I'm going to order the burrito next time just based off how it looked. The burritos were priced $9-11. I would say their tacos are a little more on the trendy side in comparison to other more traditional taco places. They range between $4-6 but you are getting more premium ingredients. I overwhelming liked Frida 602 and am excited to come back to try more of the menu. Food itself was good, but more Northern Kentucky, hipster Mexican, than authentic Mexican. My burrito was loaded with beef. The beef itself tased more like brown sugar rubbed bbq than mexican food. Having grow up in Southern California, I have had my share of burritos. This burrito did not taste like any Mexican food I am familiar with. I was hoping for more Mexican flavors than Kansas City BBQ. The salsa was legit Mexican. The guacamole was fresh. Service was lacking. My server assumed I was waiting for someone. When I informed her I was dining by myself, she proceeded to tell me about how people usually come in groups or on dates. It felt awkward, and did not make me feel welcome. It felt like she was asking me to apologize to her for having come in alone. Before she came to my table, I had decided on dinner and dessert. Between the uncomfortable beginning, quick everything okay, and quick drop off of the check, it did not feel like I was welcome to stay for dessert... So I did not do so. There are a couple taco places I love. Frida's in Covington's historic Mainstrasse is one. Fresh tasty. Right sized. The pickled onions , radishes and limes add an even fresher taste and some texture to each bite. Not too many ingredients but all work just right. I got the Al Pastor and the Carne Asada. Also the ceviche which is always so fresh and good and brings me back to a vacation in Mexico where I had fresh ceviche every day for lunch! Great spot just over the river from Cincinnati! read more

I love Frida 602. It's the perfect addition to the Covington food scene. Frida is definitely a mod-mex restaurant with the typical Mexican staples on the menu. Frida has a great vibe. As indicated by the name, it's Frida Kahlo themed. The have a cool mural of her in the bathroom and through the restaurant. Other than that the restaurant has a modern, colorful feel. To start definitely get the chalupitas - they are incredible! They are essentially huge nachos, you get six. Definitely my favorite thing on the menu. The guacamole and queso are good as well. The tacos come in an order of 1 so you can mix and match. They come on corn tortillas but there is an option for flour if you prefer that. My favorite is the fish taco, but I also really like the al pastor and the brussel sprout taco (great option for vegetarians). The margaritas are good and they are not as sweet as Bakersfield's. Update: my husband and I visited Frida's again for the first time in over 2 years, and everything was a drastic improvement since our last visit! The menu has changed since we were in last, which I'm happy about! We started with the queso. Last time we came, it was mostly corn with some cheese. This time, the opposite. It was what you expect queso to be, just with a little bit of corn mixed it. We were very pleased! The chips were a bit hard in my opinion, but no big deal. I had the al pastor taco (my favorite type of taco!!), and my husband had the oaxacan chicken sandwich. My tacos were pretty good. Not the best I've had in the city, but good. My husband said his sandwich was good, but the bread was pretty soggy. We finished with the key lime pie. Again, not the best ever, but still good! Kelsey was our waitress, and she was great! Frida is the place to be an the place to eat. Grab outside seating if you can. And come early, cause the place gets super busy with 1+ hour wait during peak times. Excellent tacos, on home made corn tortillas. They run a Taco Tuesday with Chicken Tacos for just 2 bucks. But my favorite are El Pastor and Fish. My Wife love the Brussel Sprout taco. I came here to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day and picked this place because I also wanted to honor Frida Kahlo. I also knew that it had options for mezcal, and I really like mezcal. I was bummed to find out that it is not owned and didn't seem like it employed any Latinxs. Regardless, the food did seem based on Mexican cuisine. The margarita I got was delicious! The elote was close to authentic The chalupitas were not chalupas, and definitely not nachos either. They really are tostadas and should be named such. Still tasty though The tacos were cheap(ish). The tortillas don't hold the filling, which was sad I had a good night with the place and with my friends there. Hannah was our bartender on Cinco de Mayo and she was absolutely fabulous. She was so good that when she left mid experience I noticed, you are doing everything right Hannah! She did recommend the Brussel sprout taco which was okay until I added some guacamole, salsa verde and hot sauce. OMG! Such a cute interior! I am adding this to my list of favorites. Margaritas + Fun Atmosphere + Vegan Options = Happy Sarah I visited with a friend on a Wednesday evening to catch up on life. Because of Covid, they have you order when you walk in and you take a number to your seat so they can find you when it is ready. I ordered a margarita, the vegan quesadilla, and a trio of salsas with chips. The vegan quesadilla was HUGE and was packed full of veggies. I dipped the quesadilla in some salsa I had leftover from my trio. The most unique item I tried while at Frida 602 was their peanut butter salsa. Yes, you read that right, and it was incredible. I was not sure if I was going to like it but the sweet to salty to spicy ratio was executed perfectly. First time trying this place on a busy Saturday nights or date night and the food was amazing! We had their chips and salsa sampler, the shrimp ( gobernador) and fish (pescado) taco. It's one taco per order which we didn't realize but we ended up order a second and third helping. How fun is Frida 602?1?! My mother and I decided to stop into Frida 602, for an early birthday lunch. When we first went in it wasn't too crowded for a Friday afternoon, so we took a little walk throughout the restaurant. There were so many cute Mexican heritage inspirations throughout, and it felt warm and welcoming. We decided to sit at the bar and watch them make all the various drinks. We each tried a margarita - she went for the traditional, while I tried the passion fruit. Both were divine! I loved the balance of sweet and sour with the passion fruit margarita. Then we ordered a half side of queso, guacamole, and a salsa. All also were so good, and very fresh. The queso comes out in a cast iron skillet, so it's boiling on the table! The chips were also very fresh and complimented each dip perfectly. We each ordered two different tacos, so we could sample each. My favorites were the Al Pastor and Carne Asada. Both packed with flavor! My mom loved the Al Pastor and Gobernador, also very flavorful. Frida is a great place to visit for drinks, appetizers or dinner. Upon arrival we were told there would be a 30-45 minute wait for a table. They took my phone number, so we were able to get a drink nearby while we waited. When we were brought to our table, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the queso as an appetizer, which I would highly recommend. It was pure cheesy goodness. I also ordered their traditional margarita, and I enjoyed it very much. I had ordered two tacos and this turned out to be the perfect amount of food. The fried chicken taco had a lot of flavor and it was probably my favorite. My husband enjoyed his veggie burrito so much he had us come back the next night. My daughter really loved that the nachos were made so that each chip had a little of everything. My son's chicken quesadilla barely had any cheese. My vegetarian quesadilla was pretty sparse- only a couple pieces of potatoes and peppers each piece, and there were no beans which meant it all fell apart when I picked it up. It was really really salty. But, it was insanely busy so I'm rating based off that the quesadilla cook must've just been off his game. The place was very busy as one would expect when you combine Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby and the Flying Pig Marathon on the same weekend. I had a Dos Equis Amber while I waited briefly for my snack. The patrons were friendly and the staff was hopping. A few moments after I ordered, out came my a bartender with my order. The Elote (a classic Mexican street food of grilled corn topped with a creamy chili-and-lime-spiked sauce with cheese) looked awesome and so did my Taco Al Pastor. Met friends here over the week-end. The decor is bright and colorful. Thought maybe it was because Cinco de Mayo was the day before, but apparently it's always like this. I was told that I really needed to try the brussel sprout taco. Even thought it doesn't sound like it would go well together, it certainly did. I love peanuts and it was served with a smoky peanut salsa which enhanced the flavors. We ordered guacamole, queso and salsa trio to share on those great chips. They make the guac a little chunkier the way I like it, the queso was delicious and the garnishment of sliced mini bell peppers in red/orange and the salsa trio looked like a stop light you could eat. Went 6/1/18 (a Friday night) around 8:15PM. Wait was about 45 minutes and the host station had a convenient waiting list that sends you a text message once your table is ready. My date and I ordered a few margaritas. The strawberry one would be my favorite from their menu. The pomegranate margarita (pictured) was decent - a lot of sugary syrup though. As an appetizer we got chips and queso. The queso is very rich and mixed with peppers and corn - very tasty. I ordered a steak and brussel sprout taco (pictured). Surprisingly the brussel sprout taco was very good. Steak.. not so much. It had a lot of grease and lacked flavor in my opinion. My date ordered a shrimp taco and chicken taco. I took a bite of the shrimp and it was wonderful. Highly recommend the shrimp taco. Atmosphere is fun and bright. Has a lot of colors and really cool painting on walls and stairs. Little smaller of a place - so expect a wait. Outside they have a small patio on the sidewalk and a foosball table. O.M.G. (Oh, Mutter Gottes!) If you want to have a borderline religious experience get the brussels sprouts taco. I have sniffed out every artisan/ hipster taco in the Greater Cincinnati area, and I cannot get over Frida's smoked peanut salsa. While completely in the shadow of my other taco, the al pastor taco was also absolute perfection - the pastor sauce was on point; the pineapple and pork were perfectly cooked. I have super high expectations when it comes to craft tacos. I really wanted to love this place and I don't throw out a one star very often. But I do think honesty is lacking these days on Yelp and I rely on reviews here to pick new restaurants to try. There was a TON of cold white rice inside with a few black beans and a few pieces of steak and cheese. That's it!! I lived in CA and all over the country and this is not Mexican or Latin food. We had three drinks during our visit - the Prickly Pear Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, and the Passionfruit Punch. All of our drinks were tasty and decently strong. Vegetarian options weren't too plentiful, so we went with two brussels sprout tacos - they have a bit of spice but are tasty overall. We also had the queso that comes with a side of thick corn chips. The corn in the queso adds a complimentary sweetness to the dish. For dessert, we had the Tres Leches Cake, which was served with a roasted marshmallow. The food is delicious and very fresh. I ate there with family and had a chicken taco, a chicken burrito, a pork burrito, an empanada, and the assorted salsas and chips. All of the food was excellent, although the wait time for the mains seemed long for tacos and burritos. The margaritas are on the small side for $9. My only issue with the restaurant is the acoustics/ambiance. We were upstairs in a room about 30' by 20' that had seats for about 50 people. That's about the size of my living/dining rooms and I can't imagine crowding 50 people in there. We were right next to a four top of nurses who were drunk AF and guffawing loudly and getting drunker every second. I wish they'd gotten some appetizers to shut them up! Then the other tables started screaming to be heard over the drunk nurses and then it turned into middle school cafeteria level loud and I just wanted to leave. I really should come over to Mainstrasse more often. It's such a cute area, filled with restaurants and shops that are locally owned and loved. I finally made my way over to Frida with a couple of friends after my roommate raved about their queso. As she's a picky eater, I knew it was a must try. We were sat in the back of the restaurant, which like many of its neighbors, has been renovated from old housing. The restaurant is split in two, with a few tables inhabiting the front, restrooms in the middle, and a larger dining area in the back. Many of the art displays were in reference to Frida Kahlo, and I appreciate them staying on theme. My friends and I started with a classic pitcher. We were pleasantly surprised that we were able to get 2 full glasses out for all of us - pitchers at Bakersfield aren't that big! We started with guac and queso, because honestly do you go to Mexican restaurants and start with anything else? The queso was as wonderful as my roommate described. It was warm and very gooey. I'm going to be frank here - for the longest time, I did NOT like queso. When I think of queso, I think of the god awful nacho cheese processed bullshit that they put with concession tortilla chips. For anyone that thinks that's good, you need to be woken up. What I had at Frida was QUESO. Stick to your ribs, authentic and good quality cheese melted in a cast iron skillet. Combine that with freshly made chunky guac and a just fried tortilla chip and I'm in heavennnnn! I ate so much of the apps that by the time our actual dinner came around I was stuffed. We ordered the quesadilla, an empanada, and the chop salad. While the quesadilla left us underwhelmed, the empanada and chop salad had very nice flavors. It should be noted that the chop salad was huge and my two friends shared it with the quesadilla but still had trouble finishing it. I look forward to my next visit to Frida.
