I ate here on a beautiful day and the doors to the outside were open. I ordered a margarita of course. I absolutely love enchiladas and order them everywhere I go. Honestly it was a terrible mistake. These enchiladas are NOT alike normal enchiladas. Based on the ingredients it seemed like it would be what I was expecting. First bite was an immediate no. Usually I would just power through but when our server came back I had asked to order something different because I couldn't even get through this. She said that dish is sent back pretty often (why is this even on the menu then?) I ended up ordering the fish tacos instead. They were okay, but 100 times better than the enchilada. After a long morning of hiking throughout the Cincinnati Nature Center, my friend and I worked up a major appetite. On our way home we discussed what to get for lunch and tacos were quickly agreed upon. Frida's was in walking distance and I had never been. With 300+ reviews and a solid four-star rating on Yelp, it was an easy pick. After looking over the menu, I was sold. We placed our order over the phone and started on our journey to pickup. We arrived to find their patio filled with hungry patrons, a sparkling clean dining room/bar area, great jams playing, and friendly staff. We were welcomed right away and our food was placed on the counter ready to go. Easy peasy, very smooth ordering and pick up experience. We got home and immediately got to business. I started with their esquites appetizer. For the five dollar price tag, the portion is extraordinarily small. However, the flavor packs a punch. Next up, tacos! I tried the Gobernador (without the bacon), the pescado (fried fish), and the brussel sprout. This was my very first time ever having brussel sprouts in a taco and I really liked the smoked peanut salsa. Interesting flavors and combination for a taco, but it might have been my favorite! The other two were ok and I think would have been better had I dined in. Even though I picked up and ate quickly, they were both rather cold and the fish wasn't crispy by the time I got to it. Food was a nice unique twist on things but because this place has a couple of twists on the dishes (all very tasty twists) just be prepared if you are someone that has a sensitive stomach like me - ex: apparently if you are over 30 corn makes you feel sick, ect. I got the strawberry daiquiri because I was craving something sweet, but the alcohol taste was very overpowering. This place has a cute aesthetic. My partner and I attended for dinner on a Thursday night. There was live music across the street, and the walk up ordering capability is pretty cute. I ordered the vegan quesadilla and my partner ordered the chicken burrito. He had a tequila old fashioned to drink and I ordered one of their specialty frozen drinks (the name escapes me). My drink was fruity and delicious although the paper straw dissolved and made it impossible to drink-- I do not recommend. Furthermore, my vegan quesadilla had a LOT of potatoes-- but the texture of the other ingredients was nice. I just would have preferred less potatoes as a filler. The chimichurri sauce I thought was very good. My partner did not like his drink at all he says that no one should ever order it-- but the burrito was pretty good. Personally I love to start with the queso and salsa. I have only had the red salsa and it was good. I have had the enchiladas, it is massive dish so no complaints here! I think the ingredients pair very well and create an authentic flavor. Apparently they hand roll the enchilada's every morning- they're pretty great! I also have tried to barbacoa tacos, that is my favorite item on the menu! I only have to order one taco because they stuff them full! Popped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon and managed to have beat the crowd! Tacos are the new pizza for me, after having dined here! So, If you don't like tacos I'm nacho type! This place blows Agave and Rye out of the water! Frida 602 this ones for you!!! Extraordinary cuisine, so satisfying to the eye, and superb in culinary arts. I enjoyed my entrée so much! Starting with a salsa sampler: Fresca, Verde, and smoked peanut served with in-house made chips. The verde was somewhat a let down, just didn't have a wow factor like it's companions. I then ordered the Chicken and Barbacoa tacos with pickled onions on the side to add more depth in flavor which really wasn't needed. These tacos were among the best! This place needs to be gone through with a fine tooth comb. My wife and I had heard this place was retro and different. BOY! They were not wrong! The servers are too busy playing with their friends to take orders and to know their menu. My wife has an allergy to red peppers. We informed the server of this three times. And we trusted this inappropriate child, to make sure this didn't happen. It did! 3 different dishes. I was so frustrated I asked for the kitchen manager. We waited for ever to speak to someone so I went looking. Of course, it's the bar tender who comes and cocks an attitude with me and my wife. This was the first time we had been to this place. The manager had such a lousy attitude. Talking down to us like we're were in the wrong. We offer to pay for the drinks, which were ok, but still would stay away from the Luke warm beer. I had michalobe ultra(sorry no spell checks), and my wife had an over limed margarita. Wasn't her favorite but drank it anyway. We explained the situation and he had this pissy attitude and told us to leave! So here's my recommendation Screw this place and the staff! Training and knowing the items on the menu should be a PRIORITY, not an option. Staff should be dressed professionally, not like hookers trying for better tips, and lastly, hire a manager who is willing to listen, not belittle. We will not return. It was pretty good but I have to admit at the end I was still a bit hungry. So I went in and got a taco afterwards. In the heart of Mainstrasse in Covington, Frida 602 is a hidden gem on the corner of Mainstrasse and 6th. There isn't obvious signage but there are people sitting outside in the grassy area and servers going back and forth through the street that makes it obvious it's a restaurant. Sitting at the picnic tables in the grassy area was cool and shaded and made for great people watching. The marg was a bit salty but the food more than made up for it! My tacos were authentic and the soft shells were to die for. I want to try their whole menu! And with me being so close, that makes it so easy! read more

I won't have much more to add that has not already been said but all in all they have great food and interior aesthetics. I'm a carnivore and can't say that the brussel sprout taco has been overhyped in the slightest. We shared the ceviche which came with a ton of authentic thick crispy chips, the brussel sprouts taco, the shrimp taco, and the barbacoa taco. The barbacoa reminded me of when Chipotle used to be better. Beef just soaking in flavor. Often times when I go to Mexican places, I say Chipotle, while maybe not authentic, gives you more flavor and more volume for cheaper. But not this time. Their stuff was so authentic but so flavorful. Reasonably priced as well. Service was also extremely quick while the line was long and busy the whole time we were there. We sat at a high top table near the bar by the entrance, two kids (6 and 8) and two adults. Frida 602 made us all happy. We had a mix of tacos (barbacoa, al pastor, brussels) that were excellent, a chicken enchilada that was super comfort food but we would have liked a little more spice, and flavor oomph, and a couple of (enormous) kids quesadillas. We had a virgin margarita (super, duper tart - some supplemental simple syrup took the edge off), and an exceptionally good (and reasonably priced at $10) Prickly Margarita. I used to love Fridas. I went 3-4 time a month when I lived nearby. The food has gone downhill. Service is still great, drinks are solid and atmosphere is wonderful. In the spring/summer, check out the arugula salad and add chicken. You also can't go wrong with a marg. Our personal favorite is the mezcal versions, but the tequila versions are also legit. We stopped here last night for the first time and the food was GREAT. The chips were fresh and the queso was a cheesy skillet that was so good. Our waitress was very helpful with all of her recommendations and none of us were disappointed. To the point that I don't even like fish but the fish taco was cooked very well and I liked it. The inside is a little narrow and can be very crowded if you sit near the door like we did so I did not enjoy that too much and my only complaint was that we came at a peak busy time so it was a bit slow. We got our own pitcher of water which is always nice. We chose to make our own flight of salsas with chips and the chips themselves were incredible, but we added mango salsa, guac, and peanut salsa. We kept having to taste and taste the peanut salsa trying to figure out what was in it. We ran out before we figured it out! Then we ordered our own flight of tacos to share. In the order of how much we liked them were: Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, chicken, barbocola and al pastor. This Mexican restaurant was packed when I first tried to visit, and I considered whether it would be worth coming back later. When I did, they had only one table with high seats available, but nonetheless I was happy that I came. Their "vegan quesadilla" is linguistic nonsense, but is nonetheless fantastic. The grilled tortilla houses potatoes, sunflower seeds, various vegetables, and plenty enough refried beans to get your protein on. I used the sauce on the side, but it was really unnecessary. The dish was a tour de force of various plant-based ingredients used to their full potential, and I would certainly order it again. The menu here seemed more oriented towards drinks (and oddly, nothing non-alcoholic as I might have gone for an agua fresca or something), but among the other options from their small menu, the brussels sprout taco was also impressive. The sprouts are cooked enough not to be terribly bitter, and the main flavor is a delicious peanut salsa. All told, this place executed their food really well and I would happily return. read more

Giving some love to Frida for still being awesome in the middle of a pandemic. I ordered carry out this weekend with a friend in town. I ordered two of my favorite Gobernador tacos and a Brussels Sprout Taco. I always used to say that the Gobernador was my favorite, but damn... I had forgotten how good the Brussels Sprout tacos were... the peanut sauce is absolutely incredible. The service was great. I placed the order via phone and was told that it would be ready in 15 minutes. Frida is just a short walk away from my house, so I waited a few and walked over. We headed to the bar, paid for the food, and walked home with our grub. I'd definitely recommend dining with them when/if you feel safe to do so, it's definitely better when everything is fresh and piping hot - regardless, the food was great and I'm always excited to crush some tacos from Frida! read more

I really want to give good reviews to places right now, and I really wanted to give good reviews to places that are doing a good job with cleanliness and social distancing and honoring the point of the limited openings. Freda is definitely doing a good job with those things, and when you call in you get great service from the people working there and they're really polite and I make a lot of requests and they're cool with all of it. And I wish the food was really good. It was okay I got a burrito and I made two changes to it that sounded a little extra but they were cool with it, I subbed out fish in for the chicken and I asked for refried beans instead of rice. And despite that be in a really weird type of role they were down for it. I also ordered my girlfriend to shrimp tacos and they told us to be ready in about 15 to 20 minutes, which is a pretty quick turnaround considering they're typically very busy on a Saturday evening. We showed up right after 20 minutes grab the food, and they even gave us two to go cups of ice upon request and add hand sanitizer available for our pens, you know that kind of good stuff. Walked outside to sit at one of the park benches nearby and my food was cold. Like it tasted decent, but the burrito shell itself was cold, chewy, rubbery. the fish inside was a pretty heavy fry and very minimal in serving size, which I guess is okay if it tasted great but it just tasted okay. Beans were a great choice and added some texture and creaminess, as did the little scoop of guacamole they put on top, I really like that touch. My partner's shrimp tacos were also underwhelming, because they were covered in very basic Mayo, I know the menu calls it aioli but I couldn't taste any garlic, I couldn't taste anything but Mayo. It did not sit well on a Mexican dish. She did say the shrimp were cooked perfectly and that is somewhat rare especially for carryout. if I could give a half a star they get two and a half, I'm rounding it up because they were nice enough to honor my request, and they do a good job of cleanliness. read more

Either way, I can't recommend Frida's enough to friends in the area. It satisfies to Mexican food cravings while providing a fun atmosphere and good service. I think I've had everything on the menu at least once. It's really hard to choose but my top 3 menu items are the quesadilla, the chop salad, and the chips and queso. The guacamole, chicken burrito, and peanut roasted salsa receive honorable mentions :). The service was great and the food was even better. I order chips and pineapple salsa and the Mexican street corn or appetizers. I would've wished for a larger portion of salsa for the chips provided though the salsa had a great blend of sweet and heat. The Mexican street corn was probably the second best I've ever had in my life. Most places I go to it disappoints though not in this case. For my entree I had the Al pastor, barbacoa, chicken, and brussel sprouts tacos. I appreciated how each taco came with two shells each so they didn't fall apart when you picked them as the juices soaked in. All of them were flavorful and wound have again. We went here for a late dinner Tuesday night. It's a beautiful location, the art inside is beautiful, the bathrooms are fun, it's just a lovely space. The problem for me was, dang, it's so loud! If you have any sort of anxiety and loudness is a problem for you, I do not recommend this restaurant. Or people being close to you. We were very close to everyone. It really freaked me out. The tables are extremely close and the space almost echoes the sound back to you. There's nothing soft to absorb it. The food was pretty good. We both had the Brussels sprout taco. I had the butternut squash salad. He had the street corn salad. You only get one taco for the price listed under the tacos heading. We thought it was overpriced for the amount of food we received. I used to love this place and would go here every other week Pre COVID, but after tonight, I'll never return. First, the old Frida's way was if you wanted to eat outside, you grabbed a table and walked up to the window to order. I assumed things were the same and sat at a 4 seat table with my date, and was told that we needed to "move to a two seat table because we are going to get busy soon". We happily moved but, they never got busy. The margaritas were warm and heavy with sour mix. The food was extremely salty and spicy. But the worst part was the lack of professionalism from the manager. I won't go into the boring details but he was very aggressive and confrontational. He towered over me while interrogating me about my dissatisfaction of the food and drinks. I was completely caught off guard because I've never been treated this way in my life, let alone at a professional establishment. I will say that they did comp the meal and our server, who was 2 weeks new, was very kind. The chips, salsa, and guacamole didn't disappoint either. Needless to say, Frida Kahlo would be ashamed to be linked to this place. Please, do better. read more

Frida had a cool atmosphere, great service, and awesome food and drinks. They don't take reservations, so we were a bit nervous going into the restaurant with a table of 6 on a Friday night, but had no problem getting seated. The tacos were everything. I went meatless and got the brussels sprouts taco w peanuts as well as the fried cauliflower taco. Both tacos had tasty sauces was a lot of drippage, but Frida double wrapped the tacos in corn tortillas, which was a necessity. My friend dumped an entire margarita pitcher on the table (promise it was her not me), and the server was super lighthearted about the whole thing and gave us some great recs for places to go after dinner. I made my way to Frida 602 on a Friday night to meet a friend. It was busy in Mainstrausse, and the lot I usually park in was a giant hole in the ground (construction), so I had a hard time finding a parking spot. But once I got past that little hurdle, I greatly enjoyed my trip to Frida 602! Let's start with the restaurant itself. I sat at a table in the back. When it was crowded, it was a little noisy, but overall, there was plenty of space and we had a good time. I love the colorful decor and overall vibe of the place. I ordered two tacos - one chicken and one pastor (pork). The chicken taco was absolutely delicious! I could've eaten many of them. The pastor taco was tasty, but a little spicier than I anticipated. I could've done with less spice and more piña, but if spicy is your thing, it's a great option. As a side, I ordered the brussel sprouts. Oh my goodness. They are scrumptious! At first I couldn't place what they taste like, but my friend tried one and nailed it. They taste like brussel sprouts with a sweet and sour chicken glaze! Definitely worth trying on your next visit. I will definitely go back to Frida on my next trip to NKY. The tacos were delicious, there were plenty of gluten free friendly options, and there are so many foods I'd love to try next time. Frida 602 was really good. My husband and I enjoyed our meals. Frida has been on my to-try-list for sometime. I asked my husband on a Friday afternoon what he had a taste for and he said a burrito. I knew the perfect place to kill two birds with one stone (satisfy his burrito fix and satisfy my want to try Frida). I'm happy we came here. Once we arrived we realized they were packed, so we had about a 30-45 min wait for our table. We sat at the bar with our daughter until we were seated. I would say Frida is not fancy Mexican but it's a few steps above Tex-Mex. The service was good, and the food was tasty. My husband had their house Margarita and really enjoyed it. We started our meal with the Salsa Sampler. It came with chips and 3 different salsas (fresca, verde, smoked peanut). All tasted very fresh and homemade. We ate this pretty quick. For our meals I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla for myself and daughter to share with Elote Corn and Brussels Sprouts. My husband ordered the Chicken Burrito. The Chicken Quesadilla and the Buritto were very good. Packed with flavor and very yummy. We didn't have any complaints. Both had a good amount of chicken. Now let's talk about these sides. I love elote corn, so this was exciting to see on the menu. The corn was sooo good! I ate the corn quickly. The Brussels Sprouts were also amazing! I know this sounds funny coming from a Mexican place but again Frida is a little different. They were cooked perfect and had a nice flavor and seasoned well. Overall, Frida is a good place to dine.
