The audacity Story time, Today I went to the original Round Rock location, downtown Round Rock, to buy my son's birthday donuts, It's tradition. Every year on his birthday he gets a dozen half glazed and half chocolate frosted donuts. Then I get a kolache and a dozen donut holes for myself. Well when I pulled up today the line was wrapped around all the way to Mays street. So I just followed the line of cars and got in line. You'd think that a line that long would take a long time but.... Round Rock donuts has this process down to a T. It took less than 10 minutes to get through that line and get my order. And those donuts came out hot and fresh. So did my kolache. Anywho, Don't let the lines scare you away, Just jump in and know they're going to move quickly. Also, If you're planning an office event or any type of event and you want donuts and coffee or kolaches donuts and coffee, Round Rock donuts offers a great menu for large orders and also they have a cake menu for custom cake orders. If you don't want to stay in line in your car you can also park wherever you can find a spot and go to the walk-up ordering window, It's shaded and there's plenty of space to hang out while your order is being made and brought out to you. For years, I'd heard so much good about them; it was about time to sample their goods. Since it was a weekday and a bit later in the morning hours, the line wasn't too bad. Watching the vehicles flying through the drive-thru, I could see that these folks have it down to a science. Order after order is being handed to their customers with military precision. We got a cinnamon roll and a fritter for the road, plus 6 donuts to take back home with us. The fritter was OK, I've had better. My wife's cinnamon roll was too huge to manage. It was definitely Texas-sized. The six donuts we took home were two blueberry cake donuts, two regular raised donuts, and two filled. The filled donuts were our favorites, along with the cake and the traditional raised. We can now say we've been to the legendary Round Rock Donuts.

I found this restaurant front while visiting another in this food court…read more It took me a min to realize that mochinut is their attempt at combining mochi and doughnuts (a kind of east west food mashup/fusion). Let me say that I love, Love doughnuts and can safely say I dislike mochi. I'm always willing to try something new and the idea of this food mashup sounded interesting to me. And so I ordered the 3 piece mochinut box to get the full experience ( original glaze, churro, and milk tea). One of the things I don't like about mochi is the gummy chewy texture and so I had to clear my mind of those thoughts before taking my first bite...to be fair to the experience. I'm happy to say, mochinuts don't have that sort of texture or mouth feel however they were not cake like or even pillowy like some doughnuts can be. The flavors were good, the right amount of sugariness and familiarity in what they described. That said, I'd never consider having this for breakfast (with my coffee)...it's just too different from a cake style doughnut or any sort of doughnut like an apple fritter or bear claw or a muffin/scone. For me, it's more like a dessert and maybe better paired with ice cream versus coffee. Lastly, the service was fast as you would expect from a walk up situation. Since it's technically in Hana World there's good parking outside making it pretty accessible with lots of available seating inside. We decided to order the Oreo, milk tea, and mango mochinuts although they have many more flavors and items to choose from such as corndogs. We sat down and ate our mochinuts which are soft and chewy with a great texture and they taste just as advertised. They're a great sugary treat to offset some carb heavy noodles from the nearby stall. They're even better warmed up a little bit with a glass of milk at home if you're willing to wait a little bit. Sad to see that they'll be going but hopefully they can keep a spot in the neighborhood.
