I found this restaurant front while visiting another in this food court. It took me a min to realize that mochinut is their attempt at combining mochi and doughnuts (a kind of east west food mashup/fusion). Let me say that I love, Love doughnuts and can safely say I dislike mochi. I'm always willing to try something new and the idea of this food mashup sounded interesting to me. And so I ordered the 3 piece mochinut box to get the full experience ( original glaze, churro, and milk tea). One of the things I don't like about mochi is the gummy chewy texture and so I had to clear my mind of those thoughts before taking my first bite...to be fair to the experience. I'm happy to say, mochinuts don't have that sort of texture or mouth feel however they were not cake like or even pillowy like some doughnuts can be. The flavors were good, the right amount of sugariness and familiarity in what they described. That said, I'd never consider having this for breakfast (with my coffee)...it's just too different from a cake style doughnut or any sort of doughnut like an apple fritter or bear claw or a muffin/scone. For me, it's more like a dessert and maybe better paired with ice cream versus coffee. Lastly, the service was fast as you would expect from a walk up situation. Unfortunately the Hana World closure will take this spot away, but Mochinut has some delicious mochi donuts out of their stall here in the food court. Since it's technically in Hana World there's good parking outside making it pretty accessible with lots of available seating inside. We decided to order the Oreo, milk tea, and mango mochinuts although they have many more flavors and items to choose from such as corndogs. We sat down and ate our mochinuts which are soft and chewy with a great texture and they taste just as advertised. They're a great sugary treat to offset some carb heavy noodles from the nearby stall. They're even better warmed up a little bit with a glass of milk at home if you're willing to wait a little bit. Drove an hour for a mochi donut and This place did not disappoint! Located within the Asian grocery store, Hana, next to Ramen Del Barrio. Plenty of parking available. Like most Asian grocery stores, It is very cold inside so bring a sweater! The donuts are so good and fun. Soft and chewy with fun varieties that different from your traditional American donut. I love the smaller size of these donuts so you won't get stuffed on one. Highly recommend eating the donuts as soon as possible while they are still fresh. I brought home what I didn't finish to enjoy later and it definitely wasn't as good, which I figure is the case with most donuts. We love the donuts from here. They're made with a special dough so they don't taste deep fried like others. My son loves these churro donuts from this place. So every time I have to get at least 3 for him alone. I got the people at my office hooked too. They love the taste! You can sit down and eat them, but I usually just taken them home. The mochi donut texture, thanks to the rice flour base, is a pleasant cross between the traditional pastry donut and the classic cake donut, and even with the toppings, they're not too sweet. Prices are on the expensive side compared to traditional American donuts like Shipley's or Krispy Creme, around $3.50-4 per donut depending on how many you order. We've only had the donuts at Mochinut, but they have more to offer including stuffed mochinut balls, fruit teas & boba drinks ($5-7), and Korean-style rice flour battered "corn" dogs ($5-8). Donuts for thanksgiving? Yes please! Finally got to try out Mochinut after months of watching their Instagram. Inside of the market, it's a walk up ordering format so you get your donuts quick! I went just before thanksgiving and got the following flavors: pumpkin pie (the turkey donut), funnel cake and churro. YUM!! The donuts were fluffy and perfect; not too chewy from the mochi, only slightly. Similar to a more American donut almost. The flavors were great and I'd love to come try more! I had no idea what to expect from Mochi donuts, especially since I grew up on Dunkin' and Krispy Kreme, but I was genuinely surprised. This review is solely based off my initial visit when I tried to order half an hour from closing time during the first few months of them opening. Seeing as there were only 2 mochi donuts remaining when I arrived I asked if I could buy both. Apparently, the answer is no...they don't sell single donuts. I was astounded, and felt like those mochi donuts were just a tease sitting there, taunting me. It took some persistence but I was finally able to buy a single donut, however they didn't honor the 3 pieces for $9 pricing. Despite receiving poor customer service, I was still excited to finally be able to try these purported delicious light tasting donuts, but sadly that wasn't the case for me. Instead, with each bite I was greeted with a fairly dense, greasy, and overly sweet mouthful of "birthday cake" but really all I could taste was grease and sugar. You can't go wrong with Mochinut. I've been to multiple locations, and the donuts are consistent across the board. They are always a hit at parties and with my work colleagues. I find regular donuts to be way too sweet, so mochi donuts are perfect. They are soft, fluffy, and the mochi gives them a slightly chewy texture. They're easy to pull apart too. Now, for the mochinuts, in general; the glutinous rice flour used to make these produces a denser, chewier texture compared to recipes that use tapioca starch. When tapioca starch is used, it will give a fluffier, lighter texture. These delicate, chewy, sweet treats are truly a delight. Although made with the same base, each topping sets one apart from the next. It must be noted that this location does not yet have soft serve nor do they have the hotdogs that I have come to love. I love the mochi texture of their donuts, just right for me. However, the only flavor I like or can eat is the funnel cake and the churro because there is no glaze on them. I just happened to stumble across Mochinut's IG page ...and when I realized they had a store opening in Austin you bet I made sure to stop by ;) I ordered their Taro Churro flavor which I loved, but I was hoping they would be served warm as other mochi donut places I've been too (especially back home in California) are served warm with each order. The texture is like the mochi name says; satin soft but chewy. Most liked. Other kiddo didn't like the chewy texture. The reason for 4 stars are that they didn't had any more or options of making more, and all more than an hour before closing time. And the other thing is that it didn't match the price on their menu. The donuts have the exactly texture I look for with Mochi donuts - chewy, crispy outside, and not too greasy. My recommendations for the donuts are to stay away from the flavors that include a glazed top if you don't like your sweets too sweet. The glazed donuts are always sweet, kinda thick, mainly good, but I have had one that I really disliked (pistachio) and had to pick off the glaze from the donut. This is a very instagramable place but also a very delicious and unique dessert spot in Austin. The donuts are very pretty to look at and they have a lot of different flavors on rotation. It makes it more satisfying to eat when you can slowly enjoy it. My favorite, surprisingly, was the strawberry matcha drink! You can only buy the donuts in 3's, half a dozen, or full dozen. I wish they can let you buy one donut since 3 is a lot. We couldn't finish all 3 since it was really sweet by the end of it.
