Best mom n' pop donut shop in town. Their glazed donuts are extremely consistent (similar to Krispy kreme), which is unlike many small donut shops. Have tried their jelly donuts too, which are the best. One drawback- this isn't the cheapest donut place in the world. So this Yelper is a choir geek. Which means, on many weekdays, he's gotta hurry home from his 9-to-5, heat up some leftovers or toast a veggie burger real quick, and get on the road to rehearsal. And let me tell you, coming home around 10 pm, this Yelper gets hungry. That's where Fresh Donuts comes in. The goddamned place is right on my route home and they're always open late. Most days I can't resist. They've got a great selection of fried doughy goodness for my late night snack attack cravings. I tend to go for the old fashioned kind, and I recommend the one with maple syrup frosting. OMG. The regular kind are awesome too -- big and fluffy and sugary and nom nom nom. I haven't tried any of the filled kind or the fancier ones, but I can't imagine they're not awesome. Give the place a shot -- daylight or nighttime. It's cash only, though, so don't expect to be able to charge your $0.70 donut on your debit card. 'Cuz I know you like to do that. So I had to go Granada Hills for some business this morning and was in a donut mood and with those credentials on Yelp I stopped by with my sister @ like 8am. -------------------- THE "GOODS" -------------------- ~ MINI-CROISSANT - The only "good" thing here. $.85-cents and delicious. ~ CREAM PUFFS - $.25-cents/each... they were "okay" at best. ~ MAPLE BAR - It was really bad. Really small... dough was suspect... maple flavor was bland. ~ CHOCOLATE CHIP GIANT GLAZED TWIST - This was the "sexiest" looking donut there. My sister got it... a giant glazed twist with some chocolate icing and chocolate chips atop. It was mediocre at best... saddening since it looked so promising. ~ THAI ICED TEA - The Yelp reviews said it was great. My sister said it was good... then I went back in to get my own since I was kind've sick and it was terrible... too much condensed milk. -------------------------------------- AND THE SURVEY SAYS... -------------------------------------- ...avoid this place like the plague. Before starting our day, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by Fresh Donuts to grab breakfast since it was on the way to our destination. It was about 9am when we arrived on a Sunday morning. Upon walking in, you can already smell the sweetness of the bakery. He ordered a glazed and a raspberry-jelly filled donut and I wanted to try the cronut. I called Fresh Donuts because I saw they had good reviews, and they said they could whip 'em up no problem! And boy, did they deliver. The donuts were REALLY good. Very thick, and delicious. Only minor gripe is the service -- when I went to pick them up, there was only one person working the counter, and it seemed like no one else was in the kitchen; she had to box all 4-dozen up herself, and there were one or two people waiting for 3-4 minutes behind me. I'm always so disappointed when my family brings these donuts to our gatherings. The oil always tastes several days old and the donuts do not taste good because of that. The donuts are also extra oily which isn't pleasant. I won't eat them anymore because they look far better than they taste. Change your oil more often and your donuts will taste better. read more

This review is just for the cronut. The regular donuts are pretty decent. The cronut was such a disappointment that it got thrown away. The outside looked like nice flaky layers. Embarrassed here: I didn't realize this place had an official name! Their donuts are really good, fluffy, chocolatey (for the chocolate hounds) and you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose that's hanging out on the large sheets behind the glass display case. I tried a Kronut [which I keep imagining with a Cro-Magnon eating a dozen] and yay, it was good! A friend used to take my daughter & his daughter to this donut shop just about every weekend where they'd get donuts and hang out. So she has many more memories of this place than I do. They have all of your standard donuts (bars, twists, jellies), but they also carry a full arsenal of pasties, cakes, and other bakery fares. My God. The only serious issue here is the pricing of the doughnuts there charging the price you would see for a speciality doughnut for example a glaze with bacon or custard doughnut. They only make 4 cronuts that look like they been sitting for a week in the glass. Bought one of the small doughnuts would be cheap vs reg size glaze. Good luck getting a decent dougnnut fix for a buck. Only benefits is that they are open 24hr and they aren't rude to customers. They might need to lower their prices and start selling lotto products.
