Unfortunately for me there are no good donut places where I live, so when I was out visiting the Chatsworth area I was on the lookout for some good donuts. After a quick search I found that Earl's was just down the street from where I was staying, I decided that today would be a great time to have donuts for dinner! I wasn't looking for the usual glazed or chocolate dipped donuts, I wanted something a little more fun. I walked in and before me like a vision of heaven I saw a display of the most glorious donuts imaginable. I stepped up to the display and gazed upon the magnificence laid out before me, it was overwhelming! Fortunately there was a young lady behind the counter that would be my guide, who would help me on this sweet journey. I wanted them all but with help I was able to whittle my selection down to something my stomach could handle. I took a seat in their dining area and began my luscious adventure. Each bite was a glimpse of nirvana, I savored every moment. I soon came to the realization that my donut box was now empty, but my stomach was full, and I was happy. My Dear Husband cracks me up. If he's done more than mostly veg out on the sofa at our kids' place, then it's pretty much assured that he'll want to stop at Earl's Donuts for something sweet on the way home. Last night we had spent some time with the younger generations, cooking up several dishes in advance for the family while our daughter recuperates from a foot injury. DH made his famous fried rice dish, then stir fried chicken and broccoli to go with it. We also worked on several other entrees. It took a couple of hours to do all that. After dinner, he and Adored Granddaughter took their dog out for a long walk. This is more than DH typically does of an evening, so he earned those donuts at Earl's! Their offerings are one of his versions of comfort food. I stayed in the car this time, while he went in and picked among their many different options. He picked up two chocolate-iced donuts for me, and a sweet roll and a glazed twist for himself. The chocolate cake donut I had with coffee this morning was heavier than I'm used to with Earl's normal offerings. I really like their apple fritters, but I didn't have one this time. I would take one over the cake-style any day - now I know. The second one I had was a lighter French-style, which was okay. This is a great local donut shop in Chatsworth. Definitely a local staple, customers have been coming and enjoying their donuts since 1989. The shop is small and unassuming, but clean inside and they have a nice variety of donuts. Their donuts taste fresh, do not taste like old oil like some donut shops. Their donuts are sweet, fluffy and a bit chewy. They do have some dense donuts, but those are by design. Overall, very good spot for donuts, bagels, croissants, snacks, coffee, drinks, lotto, etc. they sometimes have a group that brings old cars and always have regulars hanging out enjoying their donuts. Nice small local business for Chatsworth. The employees seem nice and you can tell the people that come often, address them by name and a smile. The donuts are somewhere between $1.95 to $3.50 for individual donuts. You can save by buying a half dozen or dozen, bring the prices down a bit. When I'm in Chatsworth and in the area I like stopping by Earls. I always get the ham and cheese croissant. I wish they had jalapeños inside and more ham inside. They do make you warm up ur on ham and cheese in the microwave I didn't like that and the fact they charge extra to use credit card about .50c I believe hence why I have this location a little downgrade because of that. What makes Earl's stand out even more is their array of items they offer beyond donuts... muffins, bagels, smoothies, fresh juices (made with fresh veggies and fruits), and coffees. They even have CA Lottery vending machines if you're feeling extra lucky! Haha The staff is friendly and quick, and it just has an overall welcoming, neighborhood feel. Finally got to try this place! My coworkers all raved about this place since they got it all the time growing up and I have never until now. Our usual go to is a mom and pop one up by us but my boss decided to grab some for the office so I finally got to try it! Fresh, soft, incredibly delicious, melt in your mouth goodness!! They're exactly like the ones by our house which I was super happy about! Gives us another excuse if we are out this way. I'm a classic maple bar gal and that's the one I went for! I tried Earl's because of the reviews, but was pretty disappointed with the experience. The donuts tasted okay, but the price was disappointing. A dozen assorted mix is $20. I asked the lady what they pick for the assorted options and she couldn't say. Basically she just said I will pick some from this section, and that section. I asked which ones specifically, but she said just whatever she decides. Kind of like it's gonna be a surprise. I asked how much a dozen customized box was, where I chose each donut. She said they don't have a customized dozen selection. She said she would have to charge them individually. Keep in mind these were not specialty donuts. They were just regular chocolate bars, twists, and sprinkle donuts. She said they will be $1.95 - $2.95 each. That means the dozen would cost anywhere between $24 - $36 for a dozen, non specialty box. Krispy Kreme is the absolute best donuts in the world, and their dozen, (custom or pre assorted selection) is the same price at $21. I will definitely not be going back to Earl's. This was my first visit to Earl's Donuts and it won't be my last. If you are not ordering very many donuts bring cash or you'll need to pay a 50 cent credit card fee. I went around 9am on a Sunday and was surprised that there were not as many options as I am used to with other donut shops. I'm not sure if they sell of some types early or if they have a smaller selection. I was thrilled to see that they have my favorites an old fashion glaze and a sprinkles cake donut.
