What a quaint place. Kind of a hidden gemstone. The waitstaff was fantastic. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan which was delicious. I can't eat much pasta and it was presented with just the right amount for me. The owner is from Menomonie, Wisconsin which is where I went to college (UW-Stout). His parents own the Bolo Inn (where I had my graduation dinner) so he grew up in the business. Fresco Cafe has has a style of it's own yet the high expectations of the Bolo Inn. Absolutely delicious AND fair prices! Started off with cava and some chianti, simple but yummy bruschetta for the app. Entree for me was a Cesar salad which was amazing and the other person I was with got the pesto pasta with prosciutto and rosemary chicken! Talk about WOW! Finished it off with a brownie with mascarpone, yummy but dense and to die for tiramisu! Our server, Julia, was excellent. Amazing service from beginning to end. Polite, kind, and efficient, AND didn't make us feel rushed. Didn't feel bad about ordering an app for entree which sometimes servers do! Thank you Julia and Cafe Fresco! We will be back. read more

What's happened to my favorite Go To Cafe Fresco? Bought three friends there specifically, this weekend- so excited. Then, red flags started going up the min we got seated. The wait staff was not on a par with all my past visits, the salad ( which now cost $7 extra) was mediocre at best. I mean, chopped tomatoes on an un-tossed Caesar salad;at an Italian restaurant; Really? Entree's we're fine, but the whole experience was just not the dining experience it has routinely been. When leaving I was told that it has been under new Mgt for a while. Now I know why I was able to get a table there on Valentines Day wknd, when every other venue was booked. So very sad for me. I will miss this place, as they will never be able to compete in Bozeman with this standard of dining. read more

This is a very disappointing, circumstance. My friend had money down for a catering date with Fresco, for her wedding. They cancelled a month before the wedding because " we have someone closer to us and we're giving them your date." I will never go there again. Not an honorable thing to do. Home to my favorite dish in Bozeman - salmon penne with bacon and caramelized onions. Amazing. Great service and nice location. And the paninis for lunch are great too. There is a salami, artichoke heart, olive, and caper panini that will blow your mind. read more

The vibe of the new location is fantastic! It's tucked away from the road with lots of semi-shady creekside outdoor seating. The service, salad, lavash pizza and wine were all great, but I was unimpressed with my entree. I ordered the sauteed broccolini and sausage with penne in white wine butter sauce. The broccolini was a raw stalk just sitting on top of the plate; it was completely raw and not integrated into the dish at all. The rest of the flavors were ok, but nothing I couldn't have made at home. Because I always had fantastic food at the old location, I'm betting this was a fluke. I will definitely be back to give some other menu items a try. read more

Went for lunch at the new location. As we entered, the host asked if we had been helped yet (Um, no. You watched us just now walk through the door! Weird.) Outdoor seating was full, so we were seated at the bar, even though all of the indoor tables were available and were subsequently filled after us. Service was slow, hampered by the host/owner hanging and casually chatting with the wait staff, all of whom mostly stood around talking with themselves despite a full lunch crowd. Food was delicious, though menu is quite limited. Spouse's panini was served without a key, defining ingredient. The mistake was kind of sort of accommodated with limited recognition of what should have been an embarrassing error. Prices are reasonable. They're currently promoting a "happy hour" that runs most of the day, but the happy hour amounts to $0.75 off only two of their ~$6 wines. Since the restaurant lacks appetizers or bar snacks, I can't see happy hour being very successful. This place has potential to be quite good, but the environment and attitude is oriented toward the owner and staff, who seem mildly inconvenienced by having customers. I really want to like this place, but like 4-5 other restaurants in town, customer service isn't their thing. I'll probably give them another try sometime in the next six months or so, but meanwhile there are plenty of places in town more appreciative and eager for my business. read more

We waited 48 minutes for food and it was after lunch hours. There were two employees standing around doing nothing while our server ran crazy. I had a sandwich called Bronx boasting of Genoa salami which had the appearance of a sad grilled cheese with a total of four scant lunch meat slices. What happened to Fresco's? read more

I am so glad that my friends and I took a detour to Bozeman on our way to Big Sky because I was able to try Fresco, which is absolutely amazing! The staff is so friendly. They were so accommodating when we walked in with all of our luggage and seated us immediately. This was my "first impression" of Montana and it was definitely a good one! Great way to start a great vacation! If I am ever back in the area, I will definitely be returning to Fresco!! read more

My husband and I have been here several times and had great experiences every time. The service is outstanding, weather you are at a table, at the bar or just grabbing a drink at the bar. The food is amazing. We went to Italy for our honeymoon and we ate a ton of mussels and pasta. This place comes closest to recreating some of those dishes. For years we have enjoyed going to Fresco Cafe for special birthdays with our extended family. Last night we made a reservation for 13 and upon arriving and being seated at 'our' table (the one we have always been given) we were informed that we could only order family style with a group that large. Apparently this is a new policy meant to lighten the load on the kitchen. Note, there were 5 other diners in the restaurant and perhaps 10 on the patio. Given the dietary restrictions with our group, not to mention people just wanting to be able to order what they want, we opted to leave. There was a slight concern about finding a place for our group but we walked across the street to Open Range where we were seated immediately and able to order anything off the menu. I'm sorry to say the whole experience left such a bad taste in our mouth that we will most likely not return. If you are looking for a place for a group, I would encourage you to look elsewhere. Unless you all have the same food preferences. read more

Must say I was pretty disappointed! The atmosphere is adorable but the food is mediocre. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. I ordered the lasagna and there was WAY to much cheese on it. I felt like I was eating lasagna noodles with mozzarella and a little sauce. There was no meat what so ever! He ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and it was good but only 3 small meatballs came with a huge spaghetti. I was so excited to try this place but left extremely discouraged. read more

I made reservations for this evening to celebrate my mother's 76th bday. She and my stepdad we're wrapping up their visit from Nashville and I wanted it to be an epic evening. We had a fabulous meal with the other side of the family 3 weeks prior and wanted to revisit that for my mom. IT WAS AN EPIC FAILURÉ FROM START TO FINISH!!!!!. I was so embarrassed with the poor service, sub- standard food and pathetic service. Why ask if we are celebrating a special event and then not acknowledge ít at all? How dare you allow us to purchase a listed wine and after we consume a bottle, then tell us that it was replaced with a stick cellar wine at the same cost when we ask for a glass with dinner? My stepdad is diabetic and we waited over a hour for our meal. The wagyu beef may have been chop steak for it was drowned in a gelatinous demi glace goop with an attempt to call it risotto!!! There was absolutely no resemblance to risotto in this dish at all and the meat was entirely lost in the swamp:( I was beyond embarrassed to present this establishment as a jewel in our area. I have no intention of ever returning. read more

I had the salmon dish. I asked for it to be cooked a little less, but it came overcooked and very dry. The flavor of the meal was good but the salmon was so dry it was disappointing. We also had the mussel appetizer. Good but had to send back about 7 of the mussels, as they were closed and that is a sign that they were dead before cooking (which you shouldn't eat). We also had the meatball appetizer which was heavy on the garlic but very good. read more

This is hands-down the classiest restaurant in Bozeman. The owner is so professional; I love that he takes the reservations personally, greets you personally when you arrive (he takes pride in his appearance, wearing a tie and generally looking nice/like he's making an effort, unlike most other restaurant owners in this town), and has a wonderful demeanor. The atmosphere is gorgeous, romantic, unique, and the only place my spouse and I go for a romantic dinner. The staff is all professional, courteous, knowledgeable, pleasant, and efficient. NOWHERE else in Bozeman can say all of the above, especially the excellent service. The food is beautiful, delicious, good price point - same for the wine. I completely spaced off ordering lunch for a meeting scheduled today. I called Mike at 6:00 pm last night and talked to him about what I needed. And I needed it for a 10:30am pickup. The restaurant doesn't even open until 11:00 but Mike was absolutely willing to help me out and assured me that we could pick the order up before they even opened. Always excellent food. The new location is fabulous, a shaded outside seating area looking out on the creek and beautiful décor inside. This time we loved the bruschetta as well as cannelloni and spaghetti with meatballs. The green salads were superb with gorgonzola and a reduced balsamic over fresh green. By far the best meal of our trip, we decided on Fresco because it was an unseasonably cold and wet summer night and we wanted comfort food. The bruschetta was simple but really tasty. We really enjoyed the wine list. Carbonara and Alfredo were everything you would expect. The Puttanesca could have been a little spicier, but still enjoyable. I really loved the steak and mushroom ragu - but wasn't a fan of serving it over potatoes...pasta would have been better to soak up the sauce. As others have said the Tiramisu is amazing as was the homemade gelatos. A great find. read more

My husband, our son, and I were in town from Nebraska, visiting our nephew, who recommended this spot. I had the ravioli, while my husband had the lasagna with Italian sausage. As we normally do, we tasted each other's dishes. I loved the extra kick the sausage gave his lasagna--delicious! I felt that I was the "winner," though, with my ravioli. It. Was. AMAZING. Our son, who is eleven and picky, had plain spaghetti noodles. He loved them. He let me have his focaccia bread (lucky me!!!), which was fabulous! Then, my nephew insisted on sharing some tiramisu with us, which I've never liked. Um--I'm a convert! I LOVED it!! It. Was. AWESOME!!! Our waitress, Kris (sp?) was fabulous, very friendly and attentive but not crowding us. The area was small-ish, yet there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I loved the photography throughout. Cafe Fresco is a great place to have lunch: tasty sandwiches, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. It is one of my favorite places to eat.

My wife and I have now eaten at the new location twice and have thoroughly enjoyed. Both times were for lunch and the food was excellent. Their lamb burgers are wonderful and I would highly recommend them, if you're in the mood for a burger. Our second visit gave us a chance to try one of their Panini's (which was fantastic) and the chicken salad (this was just OK, as there really wasn't much chicken). But still the flavors were very good. Cannot wait to try them for dinner. read more

Pleasant atmosphere, decent menu. BUT my niece ordered a grilled panini asking if she could substitute spinach for caramelized onions and tomatoes. The waitress indicated that was not a problem however when the bill came, we saw we were charged an extra $4 for the spinach! Outrageous! The sandwich was average to begin with, nothing more than commercial potato chips on the side, and an additional two spinach leaves brought the cost to almost $15! There are plenty of other good restaurants in Bozeman from which to choose. read more

Love this place! Tucked away and intimate in downtown Bozeman. Fantastic for wine & gorgeous pasta dishes ... although I had neither. I went for a late dinner and had the Arugula Fritelle Salad and a small bowl of Manhattan Clam Chowder -- both were fantastic! Then topped it off with a Ricotta Cookie and a divine espresso.
