We were the one of only two groups who ordered there, some other vehicles came by while we were there to pick up online/mobile orders. I needed a meal to take home so stopped at Fresa's Chicken al Carbon. This location is only take out and only had a few parking spots available but does have a drive-thru. I ordered the Whole Achiote & CitrusI Chicken and like the menu served w/ Charro Beans, Mexican Rice, Grilled Onion, Blistered Jalapeño, Corn Tortillas & Salsas. It is a full meal to feed 2-4 people depending on how hungry they are. When I got home I unpackaged it and the chicken was cut in four parks separating white from dark. It's designed to build your own chicken tacos. The chicken was very flavor-able and farm fresh. The seasoning had that perfect mild spiciness and much better than store bought rotisserie chickens. Fresas on lamar I want to write a review of this restaurant, and it's mainly, you know, because of the bad service that we received. So we actually eat at their other location, the dine-in location quite a bit, but this particular location, first of all, it's, like, drive-through and takeout only, and we wanted to just stop by and get a quick taco to just kind of hold us off until dinner. And what we ended up doing was stopping by, you know, briefly, and my wife ordered the sweet potatoes, but she got them and they were covered in this, like, horribly spicy sauce -- way too spicy to eat. We, you know, she took a couple bites. She gave me a bite and asked me if she thought she was crazy because she, you know, basically couldn't eat it. Nine dollars for these things, by the way. And I took this bite, and it was, I mean, I can handle spice, and it was definitely spicy. And the point that it becomes, like, spicy enough that it actually overpowers the entire dish, it's just too much. Like if you've got something that spicy, the person should say something like, Hey, there's a spicy sauce that goes on top of that. I just want to make sure that that's okay. You know, put it on the side. You know, it gives you the opportunity at least. Of course, obviously, you know, I understand, like they want to just, like, sell it how it is or whatever, which is fine. But almost immediately, within a couple minutes, we ended up taking it back to them and just saying, like, Hey, sorry, she can't eat this at all. Can we just trade this for ones that just have, like, no sauce? And basically, they kind of -- you know, their customer service skills were so bad, because not only would they, you know, not really even talk to us -- and that's weird. They just, like, shut you out with the windows that are there, which is extremely weird to begin with. But she was going to ring us up for it again, as opposed to taking care of it. You know, after us saying, like, Hey, these are too spicy, like we want you to take care of it, please, you know, please replace these with, you know, other ones. They were trying to charge me another nine dollars for fucking, like, I don't know, five or six potatoes? Really? Also, my sister-in-law got some cauliflower as well. Same exact problem. Couldn't eat it. You know, and basically we just ended up -- I mean, like, paying all that money for inedible food is poor customer service, and the fact that they're not taking care of it is even -- I mean, that's the poor customer service part. And it's really unfortunate that a business like this, that has, like, kind of a following, and they have a good location, has this spot, whose location is obviously not focused on customer service whatsoever, and absolutely not taking care of their customers. I definitely won't be back at this location ever again. And, you know, I don't know if this is, like, endorsed by the company or not, but, I mean, it was a horrible experience. We wasted, like, 20 bucks on food, basically just inedible, overpowered, non-balanced food. And by the way, like, I worked in restaurants for years and years. My son-in-law -- or not son-in-law -- my stepson is a chef at, like, a nice restaurant. We eat out at nice restaurants, like, I don't know, two to four times a week. So it's not like we've never been to restaurants before. We are seasoned restaurant goers, and this was just such a horrible experience. And I rarely ever rate a restaurant like this. You know, I'm kind of like a, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say it. In this case, unfortunately, I'm gonna have to say it. Without a doubt the worst meal I've ever had. Ordered the salad bowl with dressing on the side. The order took forever to come out. They seemed extremely confused and gave no updates on what was taking so long. Finally got the order and drove away. There was no dressing on the side but I didn't really care bz I don't use much of it. Started to eat this salad and there was something so extremely spicy and irritating that I went into a coughing and gagging reflex. It was more than a spice, it was horrible. This is a review of Fresas delivered by Door dash. My small bag of Fresas arrived soaked and dripping in grease. I had to get a towel to bring it in. The door dasher was apologetic but it wasn't his fault. Fresas doesn't know hot to package their food. The greasy chicken was wrapped in paper and bled through the paper sack. When I texted Fresas ( yes they don't answer the phone) Callie said the Doordasher must have mishandled my order and I should complain to them. DoorDash couldn't have created this mess unless they poured a cup of oil in the paper bag. Why do so many people complain that the drive through takes too long? They make the food WHILE YOU WAIT!. This is NOT fast food garbage. It's delicious, high quality food. The el ray is my favorite. I'm gluten-free, so it comes in a cup with a fork. No smelly hands here! I can't say enough about the Brussels Sprouts. They are my all-time favorite. We order Fresas at least 3 times a week. My whole family loves everything about it, including the El Santo and the Fresa. The pickled vegetables, sweet potatoes, salad, etc are full of flavor, cooked perfectly, and combined with delicious and healthy veggies. I went to Fresa's tonight & they were definitely busy. They accidentally got my order wrong, and I didn't realize it until I was home. I called, and there was a phone number I was able to message about my incorrect order. They'd already realized their mistake before I'd gotten home, and had given me a refund as I was driving. They handled the slight mishap very professionally and I wasn't even expecting them to do that. I really love this place and the level of care and service has seemed to also improve. Went to Fresa's Chicken al Carbon randomly while walking on 1st street. The staff were very friendly and nice. They are also dog -friendly Ambiance (4/5) - It has beautiful outdoor space covered with trees providing great shade. However, it is not ideal during this time (Nov/Dec), because the leaves were falling off the trees and almost into our food. Not sure if they have covers, but I would recommend, so the leaves don't fall into the food. The food (4/5) was good. We got the below. The Mexican Street was amazing and highly recommend getting 2 orders haha. CHIMICHURRI SKIRT STEAK - Really good. Chimichurri sauce was bomb. When you come to Fresa's there is plenty of parking and the patio area is quaint and cool for those warm Texas days and nights, the indoor seating is also nice and comfortable as well. I'll preface this review by clarifying that though the food by itself is good, the value for the price you pay seems skewed for at least half of the things I ordered the last time I was there. I paid $18 for 6 crispy tortilla chips with a tiny bit of refried beans and cheese and one singular strip of the pulled achiote chicken. Mind you, adding the chicken cost $4. I honestly wouldn't recommend getting the nachos even as a starter because the value just isn't there. The elote was good though I'm somewhat iffy on the $6 price tag on it since corn is one of the cheaper veggies out there. The grilled beets though are 100% worth $9. Today I went to this Fresa's for the last time. I used to go there mostly when I needed a drive-thru, like with a sleeping baby in the car or on a cold rainy day, accepting that it was a little pricey but good quality. Today I found shrinkflation had apparently hit the tacos, which are now TINY. The brussels sprouts, which used to be great, today was a 1/4-empty box of blackened, super-greasy blobs with a tiny bit of green leafy stuff inside the burnt exterior. The beets were good and the tiny tacos were good. But the bill for my 4 tacos and 2 veggies was $45. And then the software suggested a $5-9 tip- for a drive thru. There are other places with great fresh normal-size tacos for half that price, I just have to walk inside to get them. Next time I will. What a find! Great freshly made take out Tex-Mex. The food is delicious and they accommodate vegetarian alternatives. Sweet potato instead of chicken was my choice and was it ever good! Although I haven't tried it yet, they even have fresh made margarita mix. Take it home and add your tequila. What a great idea when friends are over. I NEVER write reviews, but felt the need to bring awareness of how a former beloved food establishment has gone to hell in a hand basket. My husband and I used to LOVE Fresa's! We have been going since day one, and it has always been a go-to spot for easy, great, drive thru (or pickup) Mexican food. The past three months, on different occasions, we have ordered nachos and tacos (breakfast and dinner). Every time the presentation was very messy and ingredient quality completely lacking. Orders placed weren't correct and items have been missing every time we have ordered to go online. It's a shame that this has happened, and I only hope Fresa's can bring back the good ol' days of beautiful Mexican food and wonderful service. read more

Such delicious tacos! I love this place. I had breakfast tacos from here a long time ago but, didn't go back because I had never really realized they had a drive through. There's not really anywhere to sit besides the small counter outside, so I feel like it's better used as fancy takeout. They're not fast but, they're not slow. It's not cheap but, also isn't expensive. The food is always delicious. The people working are always friendly. My favorites are the La Mari (shrimp taco) and the El Ray, which is a beef brisket taco. Both are so flavorful and really hit the spot! The meats are a good quality and not at all like fast food. I recently tried the Mexican street corn too, which was great. I am excited to try the rest of the bowls and salads on the menu. If you like your breakfast tacos served sloooow with a side of indifference, this is your place. I went through the Lamar drive-thru and ordered 2 Tomas and a Margie ($4.50 each). When I got to the window, they had only prepared *one* Tomas instead of two. So the cashier added an order for the missing Tomas. I then proceeded to sit at the window for a full 10 minutes (I checked my watch). Two of the three staff members in the delivery area did things like filling cups and straws, and taking sips of their drinks, while the third simply sat around and watched the other two. All totally ignored me and gave me no update. After 10 minutes with no response and the drive thru line backing up, I honked the horn and got one of their attention. The guy said they were still "waiting on the kitchen" to which I asked if they were having to grind the corn. The additional Tomas then appeared from the kitchen in less than two minutes (hopefully with no extra "ingredients"!!). There are too many other places in Austin to get good breakfast tacos to put up with poor, slow service and high cost: Taco Shack, Tacodeli, Vaquero Taquero, Mi Madre, Tamale House East, and, of course, Joe's Bakery, not to mention Juan in a Million. I mean the beans, the rice ya know the stuff you normally disregard on your taco plate was obviously made with some thought and care. I was kind of skeptical after reading some mixed reviews on here but everything on their menu looked so good I had to give them a shot. I ordered online and was able to promptly pick up my order. I saw a lot of other reviewers mention that their meals were often incorrect/missing something, and I am sad to report that I experienced the same thing. I checked "no beans double rice" on the online order, and somehow ended up with double beans.
