Was in the area so decided to stop in as the breakfast bowl sounded right up our alley. small place with a couple tables and bar style seating. stools are quite small and if ur under 5 foot would no recommend, I kept sliding off and could barley reach the foot rest on the bottom. Counter service only. possibly family owned which we love to support. Food was bland , we had migas taco with cheese which came out luke warm- very flavorless. We also tried the breakfast bowl with beans, eggs, potato, nopales and cheese. A little a warmer then the tacos however still seemed like everything is premade and served to order, also bland. We tried all 3 salsas which was the only thing that bumped this from 2 stars to 3. The staff was kind and welcoming but interactions with them were pretty quick. My family and I have been going for years to Marcelino's. Sadly we live about 25 minutes away so we don't go as often but when I'm really in the mood for breakfast tacos, I make sure to go here instantly. Great service, DAMN GOOD TACOS. My order has been the same and it's not changing. 3 ranchero potato, bacon, and yellow cheese tacos on flour. EXTRA SALSA VERDE! Crowded on the weekend, for good reason. My first time in a few years and was better than I remembered. Got my standard bacon and egg on flour and chorizo and egg on flour. One of the few places where I liked the bacon a little better. Lots of crumbled bacon. Chorizo was good also. Flour tortillas were properly warmed and crisped up. Very nice thickness. A note on the salsas. The green salsa has almost no flavor. The red is fine and the orange packs a nice punch, but avoid the green. I was really excited to try Marcelino's after reading about their famous carne guisada in Texas Monthly. So I ordered a carne guisada on flour and a chorizo con huevo on corn, because chorizo con huevo is a standard that I can use to compare all taquerias no matter what. Let's just say that I was underwhelmed. The corn tortillas were not homemade (-1 star automatically) though the chorizo had good filling & flavor. The carne guisada was tasty, but pieces of the meat were very chewy, whereas good carne guisada should fall apart in your mouth. (-1 more star) I've had better carne guisada in places that Texas Monthly couldn't find on a map. I would come back to try the Elgin sausage, but like my Austin native neighbor says when people ask him where to get the best breakfast tacos in Austin, "Drive to San Antonio." read more

Scanning for the best breakfast options on the new Yelp App for iPhone (YEEE HAW!) Marcelino Pan Y Vino pops up and I'm stumped - - never heard of this place at all. After reading the nice reviews I was in the mood for some quality breakfast tacos and made my way over to Tillery St. This is one of those types of places where I walk in and kick myself in the ass for taking 2 years of French instead of Spanish (WTF?). I made my way through the "oh-great-the-yuppies-r-taking-over" glares and shrugged off the "you're in the wrong side of town" comment from the customer waiting in line behind me (he was nice) and get to the kitchen counter to be welcomed by a very nice lady who was eager to help this Asian-n-White dude out. Going off the review highlights I asked her what Papas Rancheros looked like - - she showed me and it looked appetizing. Okay - I'll take one of those w/ bacon on a flour tortilla, and also an egg + bacon breakfast taco to go. No problemo! I like how you can see all of the food in front of you in the sliver tins, that way you know what you're getting. Transparency rocks! She made my tacos while a young male cook was assembling a Huevos Rancheros dish that looked really good (see pic). I paid $4 for my two b-fast tacos and was directed to a fridge where they had milk crates full of 3 types of salsa - just grab n go! My tacos were excellent! The tortillas were like buttery melt-in-your-mouth and I loved the Papas Rancheros! The bacon was chopped and crispy which is what I prefer over chewy and greasy. There was plenty of egg in it - she doesn't skimp on the portions which is cool beans, and the prices here are very reasonable - they have special plates as well. I loved the quality paper towels which is always a good thing, and the salsas were solid too. There's the usual green salsa that is probably my fave, then reddish-orange salsa is hot and has a nice pungent kick. The red salsa was okay, I had to throw a few away since they tasted like they were on the brink of expiration. So word to the wise - do a quality check on that salsa just in case, I don't think FIFO is fully implemented as of yet. I didn't see any cilantro + onions action but then again I forgot to ask for it. I will definitely be back here sooner than later, and will bring all the yuppies and hipsters and labeled posse with me to enjoy some excellent breakfast tacos, and I don't think they'll mind at all! read more

While I may be just a silly gringo, I ain't one of those angry old men trying to return cold soup to the deli. This review actually saddens me. Many years ago, a friend of mine quit our fantasy football league. It was the worst decision of his life. But sometimes you must first destroy before you create. The catholic church teaches us this. And create he did. He created the famous Austin Annual Taco Tour and Marcelinos was crowned victor of this tour about 6-7 years ago. Forget about Elon Musk, my nuts landed on Mars first when I tried Marcelinos homemade tortillas for the first time. Fast forward to the world of COVID that we live in today. It's a different place. People are more concerned with their TikToks than making the world a better place. And Marcelinos is no exception. A few years back I learned that Marcelinos uses velveeta as their breakfast taco cheese. I'd argue that just a small amount in your eggs is actually a secret ingredient that makes them fluffy delicious without the need of milk or butter, but I don't want a stick of velveeta in a breakfast taco. But to each their own. I won't hold it against them. What I do hold against Marcelinos is they no longer make their own handmade tortillas. A few weeks back, I stopped and grabbed tacos to go for me and my business partner. As Harry Ellis and I sat down at our cocobolo boardroom table to negotiate million dollar deals over breakfast, I was shocked to see my tacos wrapped in shell that I immediately recognized. HEB tortillas are unmistakable. Strike 1. I thought to myself, "Marcelinos is known to sell out at lunch time...maybe they ran out of tortillas." It's not unreasonable. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward to present. We are in May. It's Spring. Rejuvenation, Rebirth, everything's blooming, all that crap. So, I figure I'll get up early and grab some breakfast tacos from Marcelinos and give them another try. HEB tortillas again! And with Angel Hernandez behind the plate, it's 2 strikes and you are out! I'm not dissing HEB tortillas. There is a place for them...like at home in my bread box. Marcelinos has officially sold out. This is as scandalous as that time my friend, a rising star at TD Ameritrades, saw Ms. Phara, from Phara's Mediterranean Cuisine & Casbah, loading a cart up with industrial vats of Sabre hummus at Costco. When you play in the mud with the pigs, you get real sloppy. And Phara's closed. You had a nice run, Marcelinos, but it appears that the game is over and the memory card has been lost. So, on to the shelf to collect dust with the rest of the mediocre taco spots in Austin. read more

We did a bit of "foodie" research and found out that breakfast tacos are a big tradition here in Austin. So naturally, we had to try it. Our AirBnB was very close to this taco joint and it was recommended by our AirBnB host so we decided to check it out. I had the egg (huevo) and bacon taco while my girlfriend had the egg and chorizo taco. Both were fantastic. Not too greasy. The bacon was cooked in a unique way - almost candied, but not sweet. I loved it. The chorizo was really good too. Two fillings are more than enough but next time I'm going to try three: bacon, egg, and chorizo. Love this place! It's a bit unassuming/intimidating when you drive by it. I didn't try it for several months after living in the neighborhood because of that, but eventually found them on Yelp and am glad I did.
