I regrettably discovered this very walkable taco joint, and it's so good. The bacon is perfect for breakfast tacos! It's chopped up so you're not tearing through a slice of bacon. The flour tortillas leave a little to be desired, so I'll go for corn next visit. Be warned that they sell out of the popular items, such as the Elgin sausage, very quickly. So yesterday marcelinos messed up my order, no problem they've messed up before not a big deal, I never call. This time I was not home. I placed an order and had my son pick up for him and his siblings. The order was messed up, No big deal. I'm not a hot head (8 tacos, potato and egg. was supposed to have bacon) We're good and grateful people, but unfortunately their potatoes and egg alone just wouldn't hit the spot. That's not what we paid for. I call, talk to the owners daughter let her know. They are replacing my order tomorrow. NOT! I call to place my replaced order and bam! The owner states they can only replace 3 because that's what her daughter wrote down. I just talk to your daughter, said hi I called yesterday about my order y'all were going to remake. She clearly just told me yes and we clarified the order. I'm confused did she say I was trying to add tacos? I'm sure I was very friendly and honest. I didn't know I was being portrayed as a liar because you heard wrong. She tells me "I was next to her when she wrote it down." Are you kidding me...?(they mess up again)I try communicating with her, she was not hearing me, she was so rude and disrespectful, like wow! I even offered to let's meet in the middle. What a great place. My career counselor over at Workforce Solutions, Mr Helton turned me onto this place. I have come here every Tuesday after class and some Thursdays the last 2 months. I will miss my little lunch spot. But they told me they are open Saturdays and Sundays. This weekend they are to have HOMEMADE TAMALES...boo, I am going to miss it. This place is family owned, it has been here forever, it is handicapped accessible, a bit small, and some of the best tacos in town. The family is so nice. They are accommodating and even with my broken Spanish when I order, we seem to understand each other and have fun. My sister and I will be back when she comes to town. I am a fan of getting there at the end of the day right at 1245...they give you a bunch of food in a tiny taco. I love love love the chicken mole, Puerco de Verde (IMHO the best I have ever had), and some kind of poblano pepper/rice/cheese stuff I mix with egg. You can get the meat and then ask for beans and rice to be inside it too. They make homemade corn tortillas there as well. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go and get some authentic food. There is no Vino here...there is a story behind the name...ask they will tell you. Pretty cool place. Bacon lovers unite because this place has the best bacon that I have ever had in a breakfast taco! We stopped here to grab to go tacos on our way to beach camping. Am I the only one who didn't know that this place existed??? This is counter service and you will wait in line but, it's well worth it. They have combinations on the board but, you are welcome to customize your own. They also have lunch type tacos at breakfast time such as chicken fajita, barbacoa, etc. They have quite a few tables to eat in and you get your drink from the coolers and then pay at the register (don't forget to get your salsa by the register). I opted for my favorite breakfast taco toppings of egg, bacon and onion. I know it sounds like a boring taco but, it was anything but. This is the best breakfast taco that I have ever had in Austin and I have tried a bunch. The bacon wasn't that half cooked crappy bacon. This was high quality crispy chunks of pork treat goodness. I had passed this place a number of time before not knowing what goodness was hidden inside. Very near Boggy Creek Farm, this east Austin neighborhood establishment was a pleasant surprise. Upon walking in, you notice what appears to be what is left of a hollowed out convenience store. A series of operable beverage freezers line the North wall. There is also a handful of modestly decorated tables to left of the front door should you choose to chow inside. Once inside, the sign from the ceiling instructed me to cross the store, and park myself in one of two lines. On this occasion it wasn't so necessary as I was the only person waiting. I ran down the board on the wall to get an idea of my options (which really doesn't ever seem necessary when ordering breakfast tacos...but I did my due diligence just the same). You order directly from the cook/taco assembler...and it all comes together before your eyes. Once wrapped I was directed to the register by the door to find that my four three-item tacos totaled a very satisfying seven dollars. I was even more pleasantly surprised to find that credit cards were accepted. Regarding the actual meal, the bacon/egg/cheese offering was the best of the bunch. The size of the taco was generous, the bacon was flavorful and extra crisp (and chopped into bits instead of just one unwieldy strip). The cheese could have been better as it was just a square slice of Kraft American, but what you gonna do? The chorizo/egg/cheese and potato/egg/cheese were equally filling, but fell a notch or two below the bacon/egg/cheese variety. These breakfast tacos should be renamed Bacon Tacos. I love bacon more than any other food outside of steak. Its the best thing for a breakfast taco, so I was immediately floored when I got the taco and I opened it up to add salsa and I could not see the eggs. Another unique twist to the tacos here is that they use crumbled chunks of bacon on a bed of fluffy eggs. These things are breakfast burritos in taco tortillas. Although the salsa was not as spicy as I expected or preferred it had a robust flavor that complimented the saltiness of the bacon. Since I live in the Taco Capital of the World, as anointed by the New York Times, I figured it was high time to brush myself up on the local taco scene. I'm not one of the critics who foamed at the mouth when Austin was lauded by the effete intellectual New York rag (but I mean really, what the hell do they know anyways?), but I come from South Texas where tacos are, let's just say much heftier than they are here. So are the people coincidentally, but there's more reason for that than the tacos. I do dispute Austin as Taco Capitol USA because when most places can't even make a decent tortilla, you can't possibly start wearing superlatives as best of anything Tex-Mex. That said, for a taco done by Austin standards (in rubbery bite-size tortillas), these are pretty good. The place is a treat in itself. Everything is open - there are no secrets in this kitchen, though maybe the mysterious velveeta-like cheese that they use should in fact be out of sight. The tacos are small but they are also dirt cheap. 2 tacos and a very large coffee runs under 5 bucks, and they do take cards. read more

Here, it is popping in the early hours, and a good amount of people chose to sit down and eat, surprisingly. The most attractive feature about this specific joint is the outrageous taco bar and ordering system. You go up to the counter, where a huge cafeteria line boasts a million different meats. Heck, you can get beef cheek slapped onto a tortilla right in front of you.... before the sun even rises. I went with my go-to: potato and beans. I love starch, if you can't tell. The potatoes are some of the most abnormally cut ones in my recent memory. I ordered the "spicy" type, and the huge potato slices possessed some peppers mixed in. The refried beans were creamy and rich. They SLAP the toppings ON. To bolster the flavor of your Austin breakfast, post-run staple, MPYV offers 3 salsas. The orange is zippy, the green is rich, and the red is fresh. After my experience here, this humble little establishment set in the deep east side definitely won me over. read more

Marcelino is a house-turned-restaurant located less than a mile away from ACC's Eastview Campus. It's not much to look at (inside and out), but it's an excellent place to grab authentic Mexican food-to-go whenever you're in the area. I've been told many times before that Marcelino has the best carne guisada in Austin, and now I'm a believer. If you're making the trip, I highly recommend the carne guisada taco with cheese. (You won't regret it!) No matter what taco you choose, I recommend pairing with their green sauce if you're looking for a little extra kick. The green sauce is fresh, slightly creamy, and has a nice kick to it. One of the best green sauces I've had for sure. I wasn't personally a fan of the chicharron (fried pork rinds), but my coworker from Mexico really enjoyed it. I think it's an acquired taste ;) Their breakfast tacos were good, but nothing to write home about. I wasn't a fan of the American slice cheese that they use (except when it was paired with the carne guisada), and despite the affordable price, there are less expensive breakfast taco options that are just as good in this part of town. Best bacon in the city--I skip the potatoes and eggs and just get a taco full of bacon. Pro-tip: Be nice to the ladies behind the counter and you just might wind up with extra bacon! Just stopped in this morning for their Carne Guisada Tacos... yum yum! I liked the big chunks of soft meat, and the gravy had a nice peppery/spice flavor to it - some of the best carne guisada I've had!! I haven't tried anything else, but when I was watching my taco being made - I noticed: fresh made tortillas (awesome!), and lots of taco toppings/sides including french fries. I will definitely go back and try something else... and I think you should do the same. read more

This place is really close to my work so I am biased. That being said I have lived in Texas my entire life so breakfast tacos are definitely in my czech blood (don't ask me to choose between a klobasnek and a breakfast taco). Family owned! The tacos are consistent. The service is fast and friendly. The salsa is plentiful, varied, and painfully spicy. This is mainly a counter service kind of place, I have only dined in once there and the atmosphere is not that great, although they do have an outdoor patio that seems nice. The beauty of Marcelino is quick take out tacos that are delicious, filling and made with care. If you are the type of person who turns their nose up at american cheese slices on breakfast tacos then this is not the place for you... I personally don't mind it on a bean and cheese taco! It is utilitarian and delicious. Or better yet, hold the cheese all together! I highly recommend requesting their homemade corn tortillas. It changes the experience completely. Their flour tortillas are store bought but the corn tortillas are made in house (probably with lard) and are fantastic! I also recommend their Papa Rancheras, potatoes simmered with peppers, tomatoes and onions. Came in on a busy Saturday morning for some breakfast tacos before heading out of town. I got a few different tacos--one with eggs, refried beans, and bacon, another with chicken fajita, and one other that I don't remember. The egg/bacon/beans taco was AWESOME. Everything you want a taco to be--tortilla was thick and chewy, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the bacon was crispy and flavorful. They cut their bacon into thin strips, which makes it easy to eat. The bacon was by far the most memorable part of the meal. My other taco was so greasy that I couldn't finish it. My hands were completely covered with grease before the halfway point. It's not that the Mexican food in Austin is bad...it just isn't as good as some other large cities in Texas. or anywhere in the RGV. But anyways, I feel like there are good spots here and there, you just have to look for them. One of the things I miss most about Houston is taco spots with steam tables, where you can see all the food and quickly grab a couple of tacos to go. Enter Marcelino pan y vino... The place itself is both unassuming and unimpressive. If anything, I would suggest these are great attributes for a taco spot. I've been there a hand full of times and it's always been solid. I usually get the puerco con salsa verde or beef fajita. The meat tacos come to $2.50 with tax and are quite large. I have a relatively significant lunchtime appetite and 2 tacos will always suffice. The only thing I question about the place is the cheese -- they are single slices of American. But honestly, it doesn't taste that bad on the fajita taco when melted. The staff is very friendly. The tortillas are made in-house (for some reason an extreme rarity in Austin) and today I took home a dozen for $3. They're slightly irregularly shaped and have nice little burnt brown spots -- basically perfect. Never visited for breakfast but I intend to give it a try. read more
