We ordered a custom cake for my goddaughter's birthday, and while the cake itself was delicious, the service and execution were disappointing. Brooke was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. Unfortunately, the other employee we dealt with was rude, kept interrupting us, and did not seem interested in actually listening to the detailed instructions we gave for the cake. When the final product came out, it was a completely different color than what we had asked for. Brooke did apologize and even mentioned she could help with reimbursement, which I appreciated. The other staff member, on the other hand, did not apologize at all and acted as though the mistake was somehow our fault. I was also told I would receive a callback about the issue, but that never happened. If you want a quick pastry or dessert, this place is probably a solid choice because the products do taste good. I Googled the nearest local cake shop and found this place. I was greeted by a young lady as soon as I came in. Very nice and welcoming. She answered all the questions I had and was knowledgeable with their products. I was looking for a chocolate cake for our anniversary and she recommended their Chocolate Ganache cake. $19 for size small. Wow, it was incredible. Still love this bakery for all my special occasion cakes. Went in on a Thursday- asked for a Jack and Sally cake- no picture design- just a note giving designer creative freedom and they did not disappoint! Went in on Friday to take my own strawberries for the middle filling and it turned out I took too few so they had to buy extra for the cake pick up Saturday morning. Of course there was an extra charge for them having to go out of their way to get my strawberries but more than anything I'm thankful that they did that! The cookies wrapped in 2 or 3 dozens were enticing since I have a few work meetings coming up. After asking about prices and whatnot, I decided to just try the carrot cake for the day. The employee working shared some specials to me such as $1 cupcakes on Tuesday and $5 dozen cookies after 10am on Thursday I believe. Since it was Mardi Gras and having been to 'Nawlins several times, I couldn't possibly celebrate without a little Jambalaya, a little Abita beer, and a King Cake to round it out. After making several calls to local bakeries, I was surprised that more places were not carrying King Cake. But when I called French's, the kind woman on the phone said that they had several available and was happy to put one aside for me. Hopped in the car and down the road I went. I was greeted warmly as I walked in by the staff. The place was very clean, and the smells were wonderful. They had several of the King Cakes on the counter, so I asked the woman helping me for the best one she had. She explained that they had some plain and some with pockets of apple filling. Then she said that the best one she had (with the apple) was already on hold for someone who called in just a few minutes ago. I smiled and gave her my name and she just laughed and said that she knew it was me by the voice. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for having a great sense of humor and being so kind. It can really make a person's day by being nice and having a great attitude. All of the staff laughed at the interaction between us. She gave me the saved cake, I paid my $18, threw a few bucks in the tip jar, and down the road I went again. Had the King Cake after dinner. For those that haven't had it, it is a bit more like a bread than what you think of in a traditional cake. And the apple really helps with the overall flavor, in my opinion. I've had it both ways in NOLA, so it didn't make me no nevermind, as they would say. And I ended up getting the baby in the cake piece I got, so good luck and tidings for me in the coming year to boot! I bought 4 large cookies today around 2:30pm. The 4 large cookies came out to exactly $15.40 (not cheap). They looked great in the case . This is my first time ever buying any pastries from French's and I was beyond disappointed. I'm not sure if this is how their cookies always are or if I randomly got sold old cookies but 3 out of 4 of my cookies were dry as sand. You can see in the photos provided that these cookies were completely dried out. When I broke the cookie in half to try it...the cookie literally SNAPPED ...there was zero ounce of softness or moisture in these cookies. I hope they reevaluate their timeliness of selling their cookies or have better quality control because this was ridiculous. read more

I placed an order with French's Bakery on October 27th (picked up Nov 4th) for a SpongeBob themed cake for my 25th birthday. I emailed the bakery with 4 pictures and a video of the cake I wanted, as well as a written understanding that I knew it was a detailed order and letting them know that if it wasn't possible to make my cake, let me know so I can find a bakery that can accommodate . I was told that they can do everything, minus the pearls...I accepted and paid at pick up on Nov 4th. I also double checked that a week would be ample time to make my order. Unfortunately upon pickup, I was disappointed to see that the cake didn't look like what I had asked for or what I had communicated with the bakery. The blue was super dark and the birthday writing was missing altogether from the top of the cake. There's also little clear flecks on the top of the cake. They kinda look like sprinkles but they're only on half the cake...I never asked for sprinkles. It just overall looked like a rushed job. There was a noticeable difference in the decorating quality of my cake versus the other beautiful cakes and pastries in their cases. The lady at the counter said she couldn't scrape anything off the top (to avoid making a mess) and that the decorator was not in the bakery to fix the cake. She said that he is usually very busy in the mornings and assumed that it probably was an oversight....super disappointing to miss one of the more important parts of a birthday cake. The lady ended up offering to write in the wording on a clear piece of plastic and stick it on top of the cake or I could take it as is. She ended up taking $20 off of the final price. I took my cake home and tried my best to make it look how I had hoped... I was very excited to pick up the cake and see how it turned out. I and other coworkers have ordered cakes/pastries from French's and haven't been dissatisfied. I know my disappointment showed on my face. The taste was very lackluster. It was a light angel food style cake, nothing about the filling resembled the strawberry mouse I chose as recommended my the woman that took my order over the phone. She said it was her favorite...‍. The layers weren't leveled, so there were big pockets of frosting on the sides of the cake layers. I attached pictures of what it was supposed to look like, how it looked when I picked it up, and what it looked like after I took it home to "fix" it, as well as what it looked like inside. Moral of the story...If you don't have the time or staff allotted to fulfill quality orders, don't accept them. If there are discrepancies with an order, call the customer. read more

I found French's on an IG ad when I was looking for a bakery to do My anniversary cake! I ordered vanilla pound cake with strawberries and Bavarian for the filling, and fresh whipped cream for the icing! They decorated the cake nicely, and the cake was good. It didn't give me that "OH MY GOSH" feeling, but that's ok. It was fresh, and served its purpose. I appreciated their service and their promptness as I only ordered 24 hours before hand. Their other pastries and things looked AMAZING! I did have a raspberry petit four that was tasty, and big!! And I also had a cheese croissant that was delicious. I also picked up a pack of candles and the total came out to be $30 something, which isn't bad at all! The cake itself was pretty fluffy and very flavorful. Service and professionalism can fluctuate when it comes to explanations, patience and clarity of order taking, but clearly nothing that's kept me from returning. My husband purchased two cakes for my birthday. One was delicious and the other, a tree leches fruit was pretty much spoiled and old. The cake batter tasted stale while the fruit was clearly spoiled. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time that day and had taken the tres leches cake to a relative's house, so we couldn't take the cake back plus it looked pretty bad to carry around. So I was going to staples and I seen a sign outside " Tuesday $1 cupcakes" I couldn't help myself to see what it was about. The lady in the front was nice. She said all the cupcakes were a dollar and I had to try a few. I got the red velvet, carrot cake, German chocolate, lemon with blueberry cream and lemon with lemon cream on top. The red velvet was ok, it was very mild in flavor. My husband is a big lemon fan and he loved both lemon cupcakes, my favorite was the carrot and German chocolate. Absolutely delicious. If you not sure about coming here try them on a Tuesday and get a few cupcakes for $1 to see if you like the place. I also seen Saturday they have 12 cookies for $5. I have been coming here since I was a teenager with my mom, so all my memories are happy & warm here. We've always loved Cupcake Tuesday's! Recently I've been buying bread here, and my family and I can all agree it's very good quality bread. You have to call a day in advanced to purchase baguette, but I don't mind because it means the bread is fresh and has not been sitting out. I also love the fresh strawberry wagon wheel! It's huge & definitely a showstopper. I love to give it as gifts, or have it out with coffee when guest come over. I order it with my baguette order to secure one because they do sell out.
