This is a bakery + for Santa Ana locals . Located on main street historical district it's known for delicious pan Dulce such as the traditional conchas,orejas and muffins. The + in this review comes for the delicious tamales they also serve along with chilaquiles and other items. Today we had tamales de rajas which were incredibly moist with fresh cheese and just the right amount of rajas for a good kick. The pastry was delicious, fresh and not overly sweet. I paired it with a coffee that was still fresh tasting at 10 am. The service was fast and great they told me i couldn't have chilaquiles because they ran out at 9 am this morning! The place was clean and inviting with that mom and pop look we don't see anymore. I definitely will be con back to taste if the chilaquiles are worth it. If you're looking for a true Santa Ana experience, look no further. read more

BEST. CAKE. EVER. My parents have been getting cakes from Gus since we were born. I still remember having his pineapple filling cake for most of my birthdays so of course when it was time for my wedding cake-- Mill Bakery was the first place I thought of! I went ahead and ordered a 2-tier cake with one layer being pineapple and Bavarian cream and the other being marble. They were DELICIOUS. Gus did an amazing job with the cake and everyone loved it; we had countless guests come to us and tell us how amazing the cake was. The perfect sweetness and just the right amount of softness. It looked beautiful as well and was delivered on time. You can tell Gus cares about the customer because everything from the consulting to the ordering to the delivery of the cake was stress-free. I can't recommend his bakery enough. It's no frills and not anything super fancy but the quality of his products (I've tried the other baked goods at his bakery also) speak for themselves. I love wedding cakes and after attending a few recent weddings with horrendous cakes, I wanted to make sure that mine was delicious--and Gus made sure that was the case. The reason for the one star is the disrespectful lady who helped my husband! We been coming here for years but these past months we go for either Mexican bread or tamales on Sunday's! These past 3 times my husband has been going in using my debit card which NEVER once has anyone asked him for ID then today the bitch had a hair up her ass & decided to hand him the Mexican bread & tamales then asked who's card it was & he said"My wife's" she said I need ID so because he was tattooed n Chicano looking like a cholo she judged him. First off the area is all bad I get it but really he works his ass off & his money is in the same account. We are really not going back after this because no one that used a card got carded in there and there was 2 other couples who payed with Cards. Thanks for the cold tamales too!! Story of the sad croissant. Came in here on a Thursday. Place looks like classic Santa Ana, or at least what I imagine it to be. It's a dump inside but it excites you to think that this could be a hole in the wall, hidden treasure. Thus, my expectations were still low- any reasonable pastry will suffice. Somehow this bakery didn't meet me there. I bought the croissant today and for a split second I thought it must have been a display croissant that had been left out for days. One bite and in the garbage unfortunately. This place doesn't even rival a grocery store bakery, let alone other bakeries in the area. Forgive me if the owners are old, but pride of ownership has left a long time ago. Their last followers will soon abandon them with service like this. There is just no excuse for it. The cost of the croissant was $1.50. I understand what I'm paying for. I tipped 100%. But I could buy an 8 pack of trader joes frozen croissants, sell them for $1.50 and I'd still be making profit... and have an immensely better product. That's right I AM a fan of Mill Bakery! I live in a predominately Asian community and found out the hard way that only 3 cake flavors are readily available: vanilla, chocolate or coffee. I called about 2 weeks in advanced and asked if I could order a marble cake and I was turned down over and over again. I finally got an ok at Van's Bakery in Garden Grove. Called ahead of time and everything checked out. When I arrived, the lady told me I would have to order a larger cake ~$45-50. I couldn't understand this because I had called ahead of time and was quoted a price. I didn't need a larger cake.. I left in a huff to say the least and picked up where I left off on my search for a bakery that would do marble (now about 6:15pm). I found Mill Bakery and called. The gentleman who answered was very kind and professional! When I asked about the marble cake he simple replied, "yeah that's no problem!" The price for the marble cake was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than I was quoted anywhere else!! I didn't realize that I had called 15 min after they were closed and they STILL answered!! He asked me to call back the following morning to order the cake. they are open very early! So convenient!! I called in the morning and the lady I spoke to was very helpful and worked with me on the decorations. The cake was ready for pick up and I had one very happy birthday boy! The cake was tastefully decorated, very moist and the frosting was not too sweet. This place is excellent for cakes and I will have to be back to try the other items like tamales and pan dulce!! I came here for my husband's cake because of the reviews. I ordered a custom decorated cake. I thought it would come out amazing since the other customer pics look great. When they brought the cake home, I was really disappointed. The cake decoration was not even completed. My cake was half way done. It looked nothing like i asked for. It was a very simple decoration that was left undone. They charged me top dollar since it was custom, and the cake fell below expectation. I think I will take my business else where. read more

I drive by this place all the time as it is right by by clinic so thought I'd stop sometime and check it out. It's small, but has friendly staff and most importantly has a decent selection of my most beloved Pan Dulce. I can't speak for the cakes or other pastries or donuts, but as far as the Pan Dulce, it's delicious. Soft, flaky on the outside with hints of cardamom and cinnamon and covered in a delightful sugary dust. Just beware of the sugar and crumbs from the bread that they don't end up all over your face and car like they did on mine...but then again I guess I probably should have waited the 10 mins to takes to drive home :) Also enticing was the fresh orange juice and carrot juice I saw them making- will have to check it out next time I'm done with work early! read more

Never ordering here again!! I placed an order a week ahead and confirmed the pickup time at 4:30. I had made arrangements to have someone pick it up since I was unable to. There hours say 6pm which is not correct. The day I was suppose to pick up the cake she called around 2pm that I had to pick it up at 4pm because that's the time she closes. She called me very angry saying that she had an "emergency" and started screaming saying she was not gonna be there after 4. On the phone she litterally said "i am not gonna argue with you either come pick it up or dont get your deposit back!" This bakery came up on my search for vegan bakery options. I realize I live in Santa Ana and a lot of people speak Spanish and I do my best to communicate. But, when I called the bakery to inquire as to whether they had any vegan pastry and/or cake available, the person who answer just continued to answer my questions with "Que". That was it, nothing more. This quickly became pretty annoying, even when I did my best to use what Spanish I do know to help communicate my questions. I finally got frustrated and just said okay, thank you, never-mind... and she hung-up. I'm assuming someone at this venue speaks some amount of English, even if it's not good English, who might have been able to help me. Or, simple she could have just said she didn't speak English, I know that sentence very well and it would have much more polite. I used to like this bakery until today. I usually order my bread before i go. Today they had no biscuits and the semas were no longer made from wheat. When i asked them why they were changing the ingredients of their bread the lady ( who by the way is super nice) she said there is a new baker who is in charge of the bakery. I thought ok then let me buy sweet bread as I wanted to taste it. The conchas didn't taste the same and the bread called " nido " was very dry and had no taste at all. I felt i was eating masa. No worth the commute, no worth the calories if its something that im not gonna like. I used to go on the weekends eat some sweet bread and coffee and sometimes a Tamal from a lady that by the way makes really good tamales. In my mind the Mill Bakery was kind of a unique Mexican Gourmet Bakery but im sad to say that it is not anymore. . It will be hard to find a place like this again.... im so sad. How does this place not have a review ? I noticed it while driving to my parents house and thought to myself, what the heck ? are they giving away free bread ? There are plenty of benches inside this small bakery/donut/coffe place and its always packed until about noon. I decided to pop in and wow am I glad I did ! The donuts are delicious and have a non greasy taste that is actually light ! The coffee is even better if you like a basic cream and sugar coffee coffee. read more

I'm going to keep it nice and simple. Came here around 11 am on a Friday, the place is small has a variety of selection from donuts to Mexican sweet bread. Their pastries were good not the best but a little above average. The older gentleman was polite and was not rushing us, which I appreciated since I had seen him pretty busy in the back making bread.
