a hand holding a pastry with butter
K D.

I really wanted to like this place with all the good reviews about their cakes! I ordered an 8in tres leche for a family christmas party. I wish they took orders over the phone bc I had to drive there just to place an order (They dont accept payment over the phone). It was $29 for an 8in cake which I think is such a good price!! One of the ladies walked me through flavor, design, occasion, pick up date etc. It was a little hard to understand her when she asked about some options for the order but she was super nice and helpful. I paid in full and picked up the cake a week later! A week later I came by to pick up the cake and also picked up a palmier and this other pastry filled with cream! Palmier was really good but the other pastry was a little burnt and the cream wasnt a smooth texture. The biggest bummer was the cake! I was sooo happy with the pretty christmas design. All of my family was so excited to try the tres leche cake! Unfortunately when we cut into it, it wasnt a tres leche cake at all. It seemed to be maybe a vanilla sponge with some strawberry cream filling. If the cake was good, I probably wouldnt have minded the mistake as much... However the cake was too dry and the strawberry filling was a little too jelly-like which I didnt enjoy much. It wasnt a horrible cake... But given it was the wrong cake and just ok, it was pretty disappointing...

$5 tres leche cake

We were on the search for tres leche and this spot is open an hour later than other area bakeries. They don't have it by the slice, but their smallest cake isn't expensive at 5 bucks so we got that. Service was great, just wish there was a table on their floor space to have ate inside instead of our car. The bottom layer was perfectly soaked and overall I enjoyed it.

Tres Leches cake. So delicious!

The tres leches cake is so good! The circular one is only $15 and big enough to feed 12-16. The employees there are also super friendly. They can write a message on the cake for you and when they heard us talking about star wars, offered to give us some star wars toy rings as toppers on the cake. I brought this to a party and so many people asked me where I got the cake.

Best place! I've been coming to this Bakery since I was a kid and I still drive the 40 minutes it takes to get here from where I live now. I use to live a block away! For so many years I thought this was part of El Toro and after 34 years, I just found out it isn't, lol! What an embarrassment on my part. Regardless, this has always been my go to place for birthday cakes, pan dulce and gelatinas! They are very popular and have a huge following. They bake all day long and they sell out all day long.

Moca tres leches
Silvia G.

My first Moca tres leches! I came looking for a tres leches cake for my husband's birthday but all the tres leches had a very feminine decor. When I said it was for a guy, they showed me some with blue roses... I decided to go for something else. Service was excellent, he was very friendly and even opened one of the individual slices they sell so I could taste it for free and even offered me to take it home. Although it was not as moist and sweet as the traditional tres leches, it was good and had a strong coffee flavor which is the other thing my husband loves so it worked out. The parking lot can feel a bit ghetto but it's a small store so you just go in an out quickly...

There was a wait for us despite coming on a weekday morning, so I can't imagine how long the line gets on the weekends. The bakery is so cute inside and everything is displayed so aesthetically! I wanted to buy them all but we ended up getting the sundried tomato, butter croissant, scallion gochujang, and ube croffle. All of them were so fresh and perfectly crispy. The sun dried tomato one had cheese too and is definitely a great savory option. The gochujang one wasn't as spicy as I expected and was more on the sweeter side, but the scallion flavor was strong and delicious! My favorite was definitely the ube croffle, which was filled with a rich and creamy ube custard. It wasn't overly sweet and was soo good! There were a few things I wanted to try but didn't get a chance to yet, like their blue corn sourdough loaf and their cinnamon roll so I'll definitely be back for more!

The ambiance is that of a really good bakery, with a line out the door and loud conversation. Finally the baked goods were all pretty good to delicious. We came here to try a thing or two, see what the fuss is about and left spending about $90. Everything looked and sounded amazing. That's the most I've ever spent at a bakery in one visit but it did not disappoint. Everything we tried here was delicious. My favorite was the croissant cinnamon roll, which I had with coffee to cut the sweetness of it. I do have one complaint, I can't stand salt on my sweets, call me old fashioned but I like my foods segregated, keep the salt off my chocolate chip cookie because the cookie itself was amazing but the salt kept messing it up. My kid had a chocolate croissant, which had a dark chocolate tasting center. No complaints from him until he tried the cinnamon roll which he said he did not like due to the frosting. I on the other hand will come back here just for the cinnamon roll. We also got a loaf of sourdough, which we devoured in 2 days with some butter. Even the blue corn muffins and corn cookie were good, which I really didn't think I'd like. Well that's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

The location of…read morethis well-known Japanese/French bakery was unusual in that it's isolated in a corner of the El Camino Plaza. I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.

Santa Ana downtown is all metered street parking so be prepared to pay for parking. The stand is located right in front of the market so it isn't too hard to find. It's in the market so there's open seating and can get quite loud if there's a lot of people. Unfortunately, I was greeted very poorly when I got here. No one was available to help and periodically she would yell over to see if I was ready to order in a very bad tone. When I asked about the cheesecake selection, she said "you have to wait 30 min." I then asked what flavor it is and she said "pandan pineapple" in an annoyed tone. I asked if there were any other flavors and she said "no because I still need to decorate. You should really come later at night." I'm used to bakeries selling out later in the day but I guess it's opposite here. As if it couldn't get worse, I asked her if there are any coffees she recommended, and she said "viet coffee." I then said viet coffee is usually too strong for me and asked if there were any other recommendations and she doubled down and used a horrible tone to say "I already said I recommend the viet coffee." Therefore I opted to just not order coffee at this time. I ended up still ordering 2 cookies: miso toffee which was too firm and the ube coconut which actually was well balanced and had a nice coconut filling. I really hope they improve their customer service.
