    Ollitas de crema
    Adelina A.

My favorite bakery since childhood! Authentic Mexican sweet bread, that is well baked and reminds me of my childhood years everytime I take a bite of it it honestly feels that it has been made with lots of care and love. The People are very welcoming and friendly. This is the only bakery my family has been loyal to ever since I could remember since their bread is unbelievably delicious! My fevorite bread are the ollitas de crema filled with vanilla flavored cream inside.

mouth watering goodness I'll take 3 boxes por favor

The aroma of sugar and yeast hits you in the parking lot at this traditional Mexican bakery. That heady smell gives way to an impressive display of colorful Mexican sweet bread -- and other goodies at Chelo's Bakery. It is the absolute best bakery in SoCal. You are greeted with a warm, welcoming smile from Tereasa at the front. Please take my word for it; once you've tried the pan, you will understand what I am talking about. Best pan, hands down! This place is like your Tia made the tamales. Never disappoints and hits the spot. Nothing fancy, just the sweet bread and tamales. Great authentic local Mexican bakery providing amazingly fresh baked goods daily. Get there in the morning; you will thank me later for this suggestion. Chelo's offers fresh Sandwiches, Bread, Desserts, Pastries, Cakes, Tamales, & Coffee, all in an open bakery. They even have everyday household items conveniently in the back.

Got there 5-10 minutes before opening and there was already a decent line forming out the door. However, it moved relatively quickly so by the time they opened made it to the front in about 20 minutes. Skipped the drinks but got the following: - Ube cruffin: nice and flaky, nice crunch from the sugar crystals on top. Ube flavor from the filling was good but subtle - Yuzu toffee chocolate chip: the yuzu was a nice light/citrusy contrast to the richness from the toffee and chocolate chip. If you like a soft chewy cookie this is for you! - tomato croissant with oaxacan cheese: ate this when it was fresh and hot and my favorite out of the items picked up. The texture of the croissant was super flaky and what's not to love about tomato and cheese?

Tried the Ube Cruffin, Blue Corn Sourdough, Blue Masa Cornbread, Sun-Dried Tomato Croissant, Pan de Sal, and Corn Cookie. All were great! Perfect balance of texture and flavor. Currently making my way through the rest of the menu. Ha. There's a front patio plus an alley area with tables to eat and hang. Parking: Street parking only, and it can be a little tricky since the bakery is surrounded by apartment complexes

I ordered this durian cake for our anniversary, and wow... it's easily the best cake I've ever had…read more If you love real durian, you'll love this cake. The cream is super smooth and filled with actual durian pulp--no artificial flavor at all. The sponge is so light and fluffy that it almost melts in your mouth, and it pairs perfectly with the rich, fruity durian cream. I already love fresh durian and durian ice cream, but this was my first time trying a durian cake, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The 6-inch cake was $68, so it's definitely a treat, but I'd happily buy it again. Just make sure to order a few days ahead. The service was amazing too. Since it was our anniversary, they added a cute "Happy Anniversary" sign to the cake at no extra charge. When we picked it up, they even reminded us to head straight home because the summer heat could affect the cake. You can tell they genuinely care about the quality of their cakes and want customers to enjoy them at their best. Definitely coming back to try more flavors!

Baked Banhs have some of the best canelés in town, and sadly, they are closing on June 27th! We are…read moreso sad we didn't get to come visit until quite recently. :( We parked in the nearby parking lot on 4th street. Usually parking here isn't too bad if you're staying for less than an hour and easy to walk over to the dessert shop. Baked Banhs is located in the 4th street food market, one of the first shops you'll see if you're coming from the parking lot. Note the hours before you come (for instance, they're closed on Sundays and Mondays). And note that they seem to usually sell out of certain items by the days end. We've tried a number of different items here now including four of their canelés and their basque cheesecake. The cheesecake was solid. But we really loved their canelés. They are soft/moist on the inside with a nice crunch. And the different flavors really come through. Our favorite is the black sesame - not only is there black sesame peppered on the top but also in the center with a nice black sesame cream. It's so good and delicious. Four canelés cost $16 and thought they were well worth the price. Again, it's so sad to hear that Baked Banhs is closing soon so if you're a fan of canelés or other desserts, recommended to come sooner than later to try this out! We really hope they reopen again elsewhere or do a lot of pop-ups soon.
