My wife and I joined two friends for drinks and dinner Friday night. We started at Fat Franks. (I still love the place. I can't figure out why it is not more popular.) The night was cold and rainy. We did not have reservations anywhere so we took a chance and tried Frenchish, next door. They were able to seat us immediately. I have never been here. Really enjoyed it. The place is comfortable. Service was prompt and attentive. Our waitress knew the menu. The place has an open kitchen and was a tad smokey. Food was delicious. I started with the simple salad. Interesting salad - it is exactly what the menu describes and nothing more. It was plentiful. My entree was the steak frites. I really enjoyed it. It did not have the traditional brown gravy, but it was very good. The dish comes with an aioli for the fries. My wife ordered the sauteed black cod. She thought it was good. The two others each ordered the tuna nicoise. They said they enjoyed the dish. We parked on a side street. Parking can be a problem in that area. We will return. read more

My first experience here was September 12, 2025. There is subtle signage out front, and parking may be a bit of a challenge, but if you go around the corner on Silver, you'll be close by and find many spots. It was a busy night. I did not have a reservation, and was dining as a single, and they worked me right in to a great spot at what they called the dessert bar. From my perch, I got to see the chefs in action, which I always enjoy. The decor is very comfortable, with linen napkins, and nice size tables. Staff is very friendly and attentive, but not smothering. The menu has many choices and there were specials to choose from. The foods here have a French flair, but there are American and New Mexican style choices available.Ghere is a very nice wine list and very reasonable prices of the wines. There's a special place in my heart for meatloaf, because in our house growing up, it was a comfort food that was served every Monday. It was on the menu tonight and how could I resist? This was an outstanding presentation. I really enjoyed the green beans cut to the short lengths as shown in the picture. A little bit of lemon zest gave them some brightness. The potato wedges were done to perfection with a little bit of Browning on the outside and a very creamy inside. The meatloaf was tender and had layers of flavor in the sauce. For dessert, the brownie with ice cream on top and chocolate sauce may sound ordinary, but it was a real find. Delicate ice cream with fresh mint. Overall: With so many recommendations to try Frenchish, I was let down by the experience. Although I appreciate a short menu and hate menus longer than a page, this menu was almost too abbreviated. Food: 3 There weren't many appetizers to choose from, so we chose deviled eggs and bread. The deviled eggs were good, but they were just deviled eggs. The bread was startling small (but made sense with the low price). Ribeye Steak with Shiitake Mushrooms: The ribeye steak was cooked medium rare as requested, but I would have preferred a thicker cut. Although it tasted fine, it was literally just a piece of meat with some mushrooms on a plate. Most places with simple entrees like this have side options, but there weren't really any besides mac & cheese or fries. Tuna Salad Nicoise: This was probably the best savory dish of the night. It had a good balance of texture and flavor. This is what I expected Frenchish to be like - simple traditional dishes done well to make for a balanced and interesting dish. Saint Sebastian Burnt Cheesecake was excellent. It was not too sweet and had the right amount of tang. The burnt top added a nice texture change and charred flavor to a light dessert. Chocolate Burrito: If you want a rich and decadent dessert, look no further. This is a crepe wrapped around vanilla bean ice cream and covered in chocolate and caramel. It is fairly sweet but the peanuts add a crunchy texture and saltiness to balance it out. Service: 3.5 The host and waitstaff were excellent. The low score is for the timing of the food. We got appetizers and the salad for the table to share, but we finished all of those long before our entrees came out. I expect restaurants like this to have better timing, particularly since it wasn't super busy that night, with entrees coming out maybe 5-10 mins after appetizers are done. Ambiance: 4 The restaurant is nice. It has lots of seating but does not feel overcrowded, and it is fairly quiet. The biggest problem is that it is hard to find parking in Nob Hill. read more

Excellent relatively casual atmosphere with very refined French influenced modern American food. We prefer a little more texture in our tartaer but the flavor was very good. Caesar salad was fantastic, very refined version with small crumbs throughout. Boursin mac and peas was super flavorful and the peas were a good addition - even appreciated by the kiddos. The burger was perfectly cooked, highly recommended; the spicy fried chicken was spicy, solid. I took forever to go here because I didn't know how much I could eat as a vegetarian or if it would be worth the price. Spoiler alert- it was! Everything was so delicious and well-made and special. I got a garlic cream bisque which was very good and smooth. It has clouds of fried rice paper on top, which was so fun. My friends liked it too. For my entree, I had a pasta that was lemony and oily with spinach, and it was quite nice. My cocktail was also tasty, with fresh mint. It was a really nice place to celebrate with my friends. The vibe of the restaurant is a good mix of nice and casual, so you can dress up or down for the experience as you feel like. We popped into Frenchish on a Wednesday night, they weren't super busy but it was clear that it's a popular spot, even on a random weeknight. And it didn't take long for us to see why. We loved everything we ordered but the seasonal salad with bitter greens (that husband didn't want to order but then was his favorite dish) has quite honestly been a topic of conversation multiple times since our meal. The after dinner coffee was incredible, the wine pairing suggested was fantastic, all of the food was seasoned and cooked perfectly - and the sticky toffee pudding that we had for dessert was a wonderful ending. The open kitchen with the separate staging areas really elevates the atmosphere and gives it a clean Michelin feel. The S.O. made reservations here for our anniversary dinner and we had a wonderful time! We started out with the carrot dog and okay, minds blown. The carrot was beautifully grilled with impressive grill marks and prepared in a way that not only had the salt of a hot dog, but even the texture that reminds you of a hot dog which was just super weird for my brain to compute. The celery root slaw and celery pickle perfectly paired with the carrot and the bun was toasted really well. Honestly, one of the most memorable dishes I have ever had. As for our mains, I went with the duck leg, which was absolutely super, duper tender, but I felt like the dish itself was fairly under seasoned. It was unfortunately lacked both the garlic and thyme it was seasoned with. The vegetables were also cooked very well, but again, needed a little more oomf of flavor. My S.O. definitely got the better of the two dishes with his "chicken kinda cordon bleu." That chicken was so phenomenally fried and the spinach salad underneath had the rest of the cordon bleu you would expect wrapped in a chicken breast. They were very smart to have the sauce underneath it all, so it really preserved the texture of the chicken. Definitely get the carrot dog and chicken kinda cordon bleu! read more

Intrigued by the menu here but unsure about securing a table, I asked how essential a reservation is over social media. They quickly replied. I then read some more reviews and saw mention of proof of vaccination at the door. But there was no indication of this policy on the restaurant website. So I followed up on my initial question by asking what the policy is. I never heard back. I only just realized now that the restaurant deleted their reply to my first question, seemingly as retaliation for the second? Here's a thought: When potential customers have to proactively ask about your basic business practices, you've already messed up. When you fail to reply to direct questions about your business practices, that is unprofessional. When you make contact with your business into a passive aggressive game of withholding information from customers you have prejudged as undesirable, you are now in the territory of the deranged. If you have a policy that is out of the ordinary, please state that clearly on your website. If you then update that policy, please update your website. That's all we hungry people ask. read more

This was our first visit to Jenifer James restaurants, I think the Albuquerque dining scene appreciates trained chefs since the city is lacking, so our expectations were high; two of the diners in our group ordered the steak frites. The steak was extremely salty, but a nice fresh cut of local beef. The wild king salmon did not taste fresh, was fishy. The brine they used to cure was also too salty. The wine list is good and bottles are reasonably priced. It was not a memorable experience, especially since it was loud and difficult to understand the staff when they continue to mask up. We started by sharing a devilish egg (delicious, right amount of spice and not too much to spoil dinner). Hubby ordered wedge salad and Frenchish burger, and I took salade nicoise. Everything was excellent, and I have salad left for today lunch! They offer a great wine list and several craft and domestic beers. I don't typically enjoy salads, but the creamy sweet goat cheese mixed with just the right amount of acid was a great way to start dinner. The steak frite dish was fantastic - the steak with dipping sauces was delicious and the fries were perfectly crunchy. And the chocolate pudding cake was light and airy, the perfect way to cap off a great dinner. They have a marketplace menu available for takeout that includes fresh ingredients. Absolutely, hands down, the best restaurant experience in Abq. Had the duck and Caesar this time around. Caesar was perfectly dressed, seasoned, and the radicchio brought a nice earthy balance to the plate. Had the duck with endive and cherry as well.
