Work visit from out of town and bam!! Was recommended this spot close to work. Super friendly, cool cats that welcomed me in and gave me some great recommendations. Finally found a great place to get a cheesesteak. They have a menu full of different types of cheesesteaks. I got the cheesesteak with mushrooms and banana peppers and it was amazing. They also have cheesesteak eggrolls and they are so good. I also love the fact that they have some really great fries that pair well with the cheesesteak. Fred's is a great spot for a cheesesteak. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and in my opinion the prices are very reasonable for what you get. I lived near a Fred's over a decade ago and it was good enough to spark an interest in cheesesteaks that still lingers today. I was happy to stumble upon the Carrollton location while I was out and was even happier to find to they still make a mean cheesesteak at a fair price. It's an unassuming, strip mall diner with a splash of flair from the metal plating and the Philly skyline wrapping the dining room but the reason to come here is their amazing food. I purchased the #2 6" Philly cheesesteak meal that comes with the Sandwich, fries, and a drink for just under $10 before a tip. The generic brand soda didn't do much for me (the mix tasted a bit off) but the cheesesteaks were as good as I remember and the fries were some of the better ones I've had anywhere is the last couple of months. When I was done with my cheesesteak, I really wanted another one but that might have been a bit much. I'll definitely splurge for the 10" next time though and go for one of the bottled Pepsi products instead of the fountain drink. They were doing good business right between lunch and dinner time so I doubt this place is much of a secret; however, If your a cheesesteak fan or looking for for somewhere to eat on your diet cheat day, I'd highly recommend checking out Fred's. One of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had! Came served right off of the grill and you have the ability to watch the cooks as they are making it which is cool factor. Fred's Downtown Philly has been on my bookmarked list for a while until now since we were close by, we might as well try it out! Walking in, you can tell it's a hole in the wall...it's a super small restaurant so don't expect a lot of tables to be available especially if they're busy and you need at least 4 seats. There's some tables available in the back of the restaurant (4 tables if 4 seats available. We came in about an hr before they closed and it started to get busy after we ordered. There was no table big enough to fit a family of four in the front so we found some towards the back of the restaurant. The lights were off in the back but we figured, might as well sit down since we ordered to eat at the restaurant instead of take out. The cook then told us that these tables were closed which was why the lights are off and we explained to him that there was no where else for us to sit. They don't close for another hour, are busy and don't have enough tables upfront available for a family, so why are the lights off? I guess we are supposed to order our food to-go if you come in an hr before closing? Either way, the cook let us stay at the table in the back once he saw how busy they were. As you can see, starting off the experience is already not so great...the table experience aside, when we got our food, I can say that it was pretty good! We devoured everything! The bread was pillowy soft and so much flavor in the Philly cheesesteak! My only complaints are that the fried pickles and the Cajun cheese fries were a bit salty and the fries were sitting out for a while before we got our food so it was not hot. Next time, I would just try another side. It's much better to eat everything while you're there so that you can get it hot and fresh b/c it won't be the same by the time you eat it at home. It's too bad the restaurant is not any bigger. Overall, the Philly cheesesteak sandwiches are worth the trip. We'd go here again if we're ever nearby. read more

Placed a pickup order while I was down the street running an errand. Cashier told me it would be 15-20 minutes. Arrived an additional 5 minutes afterwards and the food was not ready. I walked in, stated my pick up name and paid. I asked for a water cup and she offered me the standard little small plastic cup. I declined and asked to pay for a regular cup about the same size for $2. There were 2 guys in the back that got their orders and another guy who waited almost as long for his pick up order. The cashier asked me my pick up name again which made me wonder about my order and if they had even started it. After that I sat for an additional 10 minutes which made my pick up order a wait of 40 minutes. Not to mention, a fry was left off.
