The last time through was not the best visit (waited a long time in the drive-thru and had cold fries), but I think Freddy's is darn tasty. I've tried the burgers and hotdogs, fries and onion rings, and occasionally a concrete. I usually go with a #1, a tasty cheeseburger with yellow mustard, big pickle slices, and white onion with fries. Don't forget the Fry Sauce! If I feel like ice cream, I'll get a mini PBC and B, which is frozen custard mixed with peanut butter cups and banana, and it's delish. I know several people who don't care for Freddy's, including my fiance, who feels the burger is too thin and not juicy and the food is way too salty. And it is definitely salty compared to other burger chains. By no means is it good for you, but I eat here maybe a couple times a year (#treatyoself). They do have a grilled chicken sandwich for the health-conscious, but I wouldn't come here looking for a healthy choice. The service is always really good, and the place seems clean every time. You do sometimes wait a little bit for your food, but that's because it's made to order. One star for their super weak iced tea though. We walked in for an after a night out at the movies with the family late night treat. At 9pm, the place was not crowded and there was almost no line. The cashier greeted us warmly and offered suggestions and explanations such as "What is concrete?" I decided on a Hawaiian Sundae with less coconut shavings in favor of extra fruit. No problem! They handled the substitute easily and it turned out great! Exactly what I wanted! Other members of our party seemed equally pleased with their turtle concrete and chocolate chocolate sundae concoctions. We enjoyed looking around the restaurant nostalgia and seeing the old black and white pictures of "Freddy" growing up and his old family farm in Kansas! My favorite grandfather was called "Freddie" when he was young and growing up in Kansas- so the pictures and stories reminded me a lot of him. Maybe that's what made me love this place even more. A few things I like at this place is the friendly service, atmosphere is family friendly and the food is pretty good for a quick bite after church with the family. I have never ordered a burger from here so I can't comment on those but I have ordered the chili cheese fries and their own version of the Chicago dog. It's not your typical dog but it does come with a vienna hot dog and all the usual trimmings. The only difference is the bun, they use a completely different bun and they toast it. I like it a lot. The fries are super skinny and we love them. The booths are huge and can seat 6 or 8 people. They have a drive thru but we always eat inside. They also have outdoor seating like In N Out. Today headed out to Freddy's with a group of friends. I had the Green Chili Double Burger Combo. The patties are pounded thin so the staff recommends that you get a double instead of the single. I agree with the other yelpers and the Freddy staff, the single would probably not have been enough. The green chili burger was not on the menu. It was one of their specials the were advertising on the window. It was a pretty tasty burger, but it was still basically a greasy burger. The fries are the thin kind that I like. The french fry sauce is very interesting. It was better than just ketchup. Overall this was an acceptable experience. When all comes down to it, this just a greasy burger joint. First time to any of the Freddy's locations and I wasn't 100% sold on it. My husband and I went gather a couple cups of the fry sauce, 2 regular and 2 jalapeno. The regular fry sauce container was empty and the jalapeno container had the regular fry sauce in it. When we had asked the employee about the containers and getting us 2 jalapeno ones, he said he can't. When our order was ready, we asked the girl up front and she said it was no problem and went to get us 2 cups ( thank you to you); I had ordered a single bacon cheeseburger with no onions and when it was ready, it had onions on it (not a huge deal, I usually just pick off what I don't like). To start off, I'm a huge fan of Freddie's. They're the only fast-food chain with a legitimate veggie burger and their fries are the perfect blend of crispy and fluffy (which is unbelievable in a shoestring fry!) This location isn't as friendly or as customer service oriented as the location at Broadway and Kolb. The woman who rang up our order was flummoxed by our request to substitute a veggie patty on the patty melt whereas the East side location has that as a quick single button... I'm unsure of all the hoopla about this place. With that said, I've not had their frozen custards or cement frozen do-dad. Maybe I'd change my mind by choosing the desserts but maybe not. Full disclosure of pet peeve: As a public health major, certain things make me cringe when I eat out. Creepy crawlies. Flies. And gnats/fruit flies. The latter of the three fly around this joint as if they pay rent. No. Bueno. The first time I visited, i thought, perhaps it's an anomaly, the temperature change, whatever, willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, this time, no anomaly. Those little suckers tried to swoop in for my fries. Go away! The food preparation comes with major inconsistencies. As we both have blood pressure (BP) issues, I specifically ask for no salt, seasonings or anything not to drive up the sodium content. The first time we visited our respective BPs were fine, and the chicken sandwiches were tasty, albeit the gnats. This last time my blood pressure traveled due north by ordering the grilled chicken sandwich with cooked onions, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. The honey got the steakburger and was unimpressed with what he described as a "thinner version of an In-And-Out burger." We shared an order of the shoestring fries and they seemed saltier to me as well. My vote: glad we tried the famous Freddy's, but didn't necessarily rock our socks. When I previously went inside to eat the staff always tries to clean the table off while I'm eating and rush me out of the place ASAP to have more empty tables for new customers. Gary (husband and part of our dynamic eating trio--mom was out and about elsewhere) and I turned up there (you never know where we'll go next!) recently on a weekday night. It was surprisingly busy, as in nearly-all-seats-were-taken kind of busy! We went in cold, having no prior experience with Freddy's or their menu. We found the menu a bit confusing. What was the difference between a steakburger or a double burger, etc.? We needed some descriptions, but all we had to go on was a menu above our heads on the wall. The cashier was a friendly young lady who did her best to answer a bunch of questions. But we didn't want to hold up the line so we dove in and ordered a burger and a double steakburger combo. The lines moved very quickly. We did manage to nab a table (yahoo!). Gary's double steakburger came with a huge basket full of skinny and delicious fries, plus a drink. I did the a la carte burger. Glad I did so, as there were plenty of fries for two of us! The burger tasted delicious, and I can guess that those burgers are the reason people return here. TIP: the burgers are skinny, so go for the double burger so you get a healthy mouthful with each bite! We noticed the soda dispenser was well used, and that there was a strange pile of ice in the drainage area (like a mountain of ice). We must've come at a high usage time. I would've loved to have tried the custard dessert, but given our luxurious, audacious quantity of fries, we opted out of any dessert for our own well being! Next time--and we will go again. He greeted us warmly as we walked in and when we placed our order suggested a few items, including their newest promotional burger. My friend couldn't decide if she wanted a bun or not and he immediately asked if she was allergic to buns so that the cooks wouldn't have the bread touch her burger. We said we appreciated his customer service and he replied with "of course! I like to make each order as detailed as possible so the customer is happy and will come back!"
