I walk to this Fred Meyer a couple times a week. It is open early til really late. They have everything I need from clothes to toiletries. Affordable prices and they always take back my returns even if used. The espresso stand makes the best coffee around and it is the cheapest too. read more

I find it sort of gross that everyone is bummed that they can't buy their chicken where they buy their sneakers. Plus, Fred Meyer for food in general leaves much to be desired, people. Previous reviewers make it sound like it ruined their month to find a Fred Meyer with no food. Try the Greenwood Market RIGHT NEXT DOOR - better food selection than any FM. But, if you want a quick item for your outdoor furniture, or a toy for your kid, or some common electronic/game, or fishing/sporting gear this store is just fine. Plenty of parking - including covered. The staff is friendly enough when I ask questions at customer service or in the clothing department (i.e. opening a dressing room door). All and all it serves the purpose of offering household supplies, some plants, etc. But no, you won't be able to waste an entire day in one store - something I find attractive about this store. The rumor is it's going to be remodeled and the locally owned Greenwood Market and all of their great selection of bulk goods, beer, produce, and meats etc. will be replaced by the highly sought after Fred Meyer Food Department. I had a completely unacceptable experience! I picked up my order curbside and when I got home I saw that my pepsi was missing but I was charged for it. I called the store and they said I could come back and get it. When I arrive, I'm called by another employee who suggested that I'm lying. He said an associate remembered giving me my pepsi. They did not!!! I had to argue with them and stand up for myself for several minutes, then they decided to review the tape, keeping me from my plans. Obviously they find that I wasn't actually given the pepsi. Then they brought me the pepsi, but the associate told me I wasn't behaving correctly! So basically, Fred Meyer made a mistake and didn't give me what I paid for. They have me return to the store after driving home, then force me to wait and treat me like a criminal. Then they have the nerve to comment on my behavior, yet I didn't receive any kind of apology for this inconvenience or treating me like I'm lying. They said I would get the pepsi for free. Its still on my receipt and I have not received a refund. This was not my mistake!! I did everything right. I even pre-ordered many hours before my pick up time so the associates had time put my order together. Not only did I not receive the same respect or consideration, but the associates tried to withhold my pepsi after I paid for it. Thats stealing!! This is one of the most insulting experiences I've had at any business my entire adult life. If I ever return to Fred Meyer, its only because its close to my home. read more

This place used to make me crazy- the layout is insane, and then you have to deal with the same items in three different places. Who decided this was a good idea? I know, I know- corporate wants us dweebs to walk all over the store because then we will BUY more, but it just makes me irritable to the point I abandon my cart and go to QFC. I've got a new strategy-- as soon as I arrive, I go straight to the first person in a green Fred Meyer apron and ask where each item on my list is located. The employees are always very nice, which is why the store gets 3 stars. Now I'm a happy shopper, so I buy more stuff. It's a win-win. read more

So happy that this place opened up in my hood. This location is about 2982938 times better than the Fred Meyer that used to be here. You can find just about everything here that a full-service Fred Meyer would have. It's pretty gigantic with a downstairs that has apparel and other items. My single favorite thing at this location is the deli! The deli has all sorts of great meats, seafood, and pretty much everything you can think of that should be at a deli! Parking can sometimes suck during the peak hours, but if you don't have any luck in the main lot, there is a parking garage that will usually have a couple of spots open. Anyway, this place is pretty awesome. We'll definitely be doing the majority of our grocery shopping here from now on. read more

I love this Fred Meyer, it hasn't changed one bit since I used to come here after various musical and physical practices as a child. I love going to the grocery store more than I probably should and love wandering the aisles and when I go grocery shopping I buy all my Braggs products and dry organic products here then venture over to Greenwood Fred Meyer's domestic partner the Greenwood Market. Its truly a marriage of brilliance and one that totally compliments and compensates for the other. Relationships like this make me believe that marriage could possibly work. This Fred Meyer is brand new and awesome! It is a much improve change over the Fred Meyer that used to be here, in fact, it is probably now the best grocery store in the north seattle area. Their meat selection is very nice, fresh, and large. They also have lots of prepared food, and partially prepared food to take home and cook yourself. They have a salad bar, an olive bar, and even a humus bar! If you have not been to this Fred Meyer yet, I strongly recommend. read more

I love Fred Meyer. I gladly whip out my Fred Meyer card whenever I make purchases knowing that if I spend enough there during the quarter I'll get a nice little rebate check back. Hey! Everything helps in this crappy economy! My only issue with the Fred Meyer on 85th is that unlike other FM's it is not a grocery store. I heard somewhere that because they are right next to the Greenwood Market they are not allowed to offer groceries as some sort of non-compete clause. Oh well. They are still a great place to go for garden stuff and other random house stuff. The second remodel in ten years is now complete, and the result is the most unpleasant store anywhere. ANYWHERE. All the warmth and character of Shawshank Prison. Actually, scratch that. Went to Fred Meyers in three days four times. This one I came on Memorial Day to return a couple of things and u end up being two more tops... This store was massive but it didn't seem as clean as the other one 70% is awesome I bought three pairs of tennis shoes and four pairs of slippers plus a few sweat shirts and stuff for the kids. What made me jealous of not living near a Fred Meyer is this cheese platter. Fred Meyer, Greenwood, is my longtime, go-to neighborhood store. It has been undergoing a months long remodel. Even at non-peak hours, it is hard to find parking and sometimes carts. The parking lot is filled with litter. I used to love shopping at Fred Meyer but recently I've been trying out other grocery stores further from my house. I hope after the remodel is done it returns to its original condition. In the meantime, please clean the parking lot. Yes, it's hard in an urban environment but I think Fred Meyer's can do better. read more

I usually like Fred Meyer. I can get more than just food and cut down on making multiple trips for the things I need. But not during the corona virus epidemic. I went there last Friday, and it will be my last trip for a long time. It was a nice day and people seemed to want to get out. The store was packed. Fred Meyer did nothing to try and control the large numbers. Very few people were wearing masks. I saw several people holding their cell phone and talking in front of their face while shopping. I was imagining the spray of their breath. Lines in the store were long, and there was no attempt to keep social distancing. I had people walk right into my space and not even have an iota of acknowledging the intrusion. There was no direction to the rows. I would say it was the place to go if you do not believe in this terrible disease or do not care about your health or others. Fred Meyer seems more interested in keeping volume up with television advertising and not in any social distancing to keep people - even their employees - safe. read more

I love the size of this Fred Meyer. You can find almost anything you need here. The size of the store can be almost overwhelming. Even though it can get pretty crowded, I don't find that check out ever takes too long. I also have no problem finding parking here which is nice. The only complaint I have is one time, I noticed a lot of the plants in the plant section were neglected :( read more

This new remodel makes Fred Meyers absolutely terrible. I've been shopping there for over 40 years and if there was a another alternative I would never go in this store. No clothes to speak of. Shoreline is the same way. Everything's too crowded. There's only 6 handicap parking spots for the whole store. They seem to think food is the only reason we go there. I really like this Fred Meyer; coming from the East coast their prices were kind of steep the first years they opened this store; but every year they prices are becoming reasonable; have a lot of organic fruits and vegetables, kombucha, salads, artisan bread, and some of the stuff I could only find at Whole Food before. I spend over $800 dollars on average a month at this fred Meyers. One thing I cannot stand is when stores deny entry for their customers during posted open business hours. Your sign, your website, clearly states 11pm. Tonight I was in a hurry to buy diapers for my baby. I knew exactly what I needed. I run up at 1055, only to be yelled at by the doorman from 20 feet "sorry sir we are closed". I said no you close at 11 I know what I need I have 4 minutes I will be fast. Sorry sir we are closed. This place did a major yearlong remodel -- a process that is STILL ongoing -- and has gone waaaaay downhill. The pharmacy always takes *forever*. Same with return line, which doubles as a place for people to cash checks and pay bills and never has more than one person working. They removed express lanes and forced people into self-checkout. And they now charge you $.50 just to get cash back with purchase. In addition, as other reviewers have noted, I have been followed on several occasions by staff or uniformed security as I shopped. They don't even try to be subtle. I was a loyal customer and I'm pretty much done. read more

If you are concerned about your health, this is not the store you want to shop at. Man not wearing a mask touching produce with his hands and wipes his nose and continues to touch produce. Reported this in store and on phone. Lady in store listened but did not say anything. Called store and first lady I spoke with said that not much they can do, so she transferred me to a gentleman. He said masks are required but if refused possibly due to medical condition they can enter. He told me the lady in store eventually approached the man at check out and he put on a shield. Giving one star because I can't give any less. I am a loyal Fred Meyer customer and this was my first time at the Greenwood location. My roommate and I aren't from the area but we just finished our day at Golden Gardens park. We came to this Fred Meyer to get food to make for dinner but were followed by staff the entire time. Again, it was our first time there so we were searching the aisles for what we needed. I've never experienced such disrespect to have a security check called on us and for 4 different people to follow us while we searched for Alfredo sauce. I love shopping Fred Meyer but this location is extremely discriminatory and rude. read more

I'm a hard critic. I dropped by yesterday on my way home. You can tell something about a store from the parking lot and entrance. Both were clean and organized. Going in the store, the aisles were wide, uncluttered and bright. Shelves were well-stocked. Though I went in around 5:00, it was not crowded. And customers were polite to one another. As the person who "looks for the flaw," I can't really state any. I spent time looking at the cheeses and for the first time at a market I was offered a sample. (My body language frequently tells people, "I vant to be alone.") I want it all. I want premium products and service at dirt cheap pricing. That's an impossible solution, but why not? Pricing was a bit higher than discount places such as Costco. One of the items I always look at is the rotisserie chickens. Some places they are beautiful with deep mahogany skin. In other places where the ovens drop in temperature from a lot of cold chickens in the space at once, the skins are beige, which means it's not crispy. The chickens were sold as "roasted," so I guess they don't have a rotisserie. They were $8.99. ($4.99 at Costco and those are great.) Other markets charge in this range, but as I said, I want the best for the cheapest. Going toward the checkout, I must have been looking confused as a "line captain" (my term), pointed out self-checkout. I mentioned I wanted to use a coupon but didn't have it with me. She said that once I press the coupon button, it automatically calls her and she would take care of it. She was genuinely friendly--not the artificial or "automatic" friendly that one often receives. As with ALL places with automatic checkout, there is their system and the credit card system. When will this all be integrated into one? It was mostly intuitive. I still believe these systems can be designed so one doesn't have to read instructions or wonder which of five slots one needs to use, but this seems to be the current state of the art. All-in-all, a great experience. I want to pay half for everything, but I want to be tall and blond, too! read more

I really like one-stop shopping locations and since Wal-Mart sux and Target is not walking distance, Fred Meyer has just earned itself a small bungalow in the beach community of my heart. I was able to get a fairly priced brick of cheese, flea medication for Butt-head, and socks all at the same time (cool story Hansel). The selection of fresh food, organic food, and meat/seafood is also rather impressive. All in all, it will be hard to choose Safeway going forward. read more

Their coffee cart/"food" cart by the main entrance is the most disgusting thing in the world. I have no idea what they make or who actually buys the "food", but it smells like death, sprinkled with MSG. The three seconds it takes to pass by this stand is enough to make me feel nauseous for an entire day and I swear the stench stays on me for a week. Gross vendor aside, this Fred Meyer is A-Ok. It doesn't have a grocery section like most FM's do, but they have a wide array of other items and when I'm in a hurry this Fred Meyer usually provides what I need. Their electronics/music/movie section always has some good (although only mainstream) stuff and the prices are solid and I never feel ripped-off. Their nursery is what really gives it these three stars. I don't have a green thumb at all, but whenever I'm in need of a plant (which I'll end up killing in a matter of days) Fred Meyer delivers. Like their other products, the nursery carries a decent selection at low prices and in general, someone is able to answer questions. Oh, and whenever I'm in need of a key, the keymaker machine is always working and there's always someone to make a copy for me. This FM has a lot of room for improvement, but overall it's not the worst place in the world. read more

Fred Meyer is to Seattle, what Kroger is to the South-Eastern US. I visit often, just like I did when living in Atlanta. I was very disappointed when I went there recently and ordered mashed potatoes with my fried chicken. The potatoes were pasty and the gravy had the consistency of gelatin. It was awful! I asked for a refund, but because it was after 7p.m I was only given back half of what I'd paid for it. I did not make a fuss, but when mashed potatoes show no signs of potato skins, it's not real potatoes! I would have been remised to not speak up about it. It had that fake boxed taste. I made several attempts to eat it, but . . . blah. My stomach couldn't stand it. So, no more mashed potatoes from Fred Meyer on 85th! Other than that I am usually happy when I leave FM. read more

too many memories of this place. like the majority of the reviews, i would also agree that this place is under some kind of time warp. i guess that's pretty awesome... due to the fact that- whenever i'm here 10 years old, 16 years old or even 26 years old... the place never changes. club ODC was right next to this place... so right before the club, we would take pictures at the photobooth, freshen up our make up in the bathroom and shop for last minute wardrobe changes. lol. read more

A much better shopping experience since the remodel. The Ballard store is still better (except for the parking), but it's nice to have something closer in Greenwood. The grocery section is much improved (Ballard Market has better specialty items, as well as higher quality seafood and meat), the deli is fairly decent, the cheese selection is great, and in general, the store management seems to be doing a better job then the team prior to the remodel. I haven't loved their meat selection, but the produce has been great. Much higher quality than what you'd probably end up getting at Trader Joe's. It's also nice that there are US Bank and BECU ATMs at the front of the store (along with RedBox, if that's your thing). Basically, this is a nicer QFC, but not quite a full-sized Fred Meyer. The basement is still kind of a dungeon, and their clothing section isn't really great; but it's a fairly decent place to go for just about anything, and there are plenty of parking spaces. The pet food selections are pretty sad, but I suppose there's a Mud Bay next door. The surrounding area along 85th still isn't super nice (thanks, Kate Martin!), but I'd say that it's a bit safer than it used to be. The kitchen department in the back stocks some fairly decent cooking supplies (lots of OXO products), and they frequently run promotional coupons to move merchandise. If you're in need of bulk or specialized ingredients, none of Kroger's stores really service that need, unfortunately. I simply find that Ballard Market employs more knowledgeable people and caters more to people who cook quite frequently. In the future, I would like to see a better bulk section and some more authentic Mexican and Asian ingredients in the ethnic isles. read more

I'm a usual shopper of the BALLARD location and I think I will be sticking with Ballard. I was excited since it was on my way home but some things didn't leave me happy. 1. The underground parking is great BUT when you enter from the main lot, there are not signs of whether or not it is enter or exit. Someone nearly crashed into me coming out as I was coming in. It's a one car ramp. The underground parking is cramped. I feel like it is more cramped now than when it was before the remodel especially towards the entrance. 2. The fish lady was incredibly friendly and nice but she misunderstood me several times as I asked her about the fish. I think it was a language barrier. Although I was able to communicate my needs with the help of another employee, I was just a bit annoyed that it wasn't seamless as I'm used to in Ballard. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of weird staff in the fish dept of Ballard also. 3. I don't know if they are going to fix this later but their carts lack the bar and underside rack on the bottom. Again, I'm a creature of habit and found this annoying. 4. The layout of the store was a bit odd. Perhaps it's something I'll get used to but odd. I am very happy that they have food this time. It's much larger than before. 5. Labels weren't on all the food. Things were on sale on the ad but didn't have appropriate tag labels on the foods on the shelves. Inconvenient especially since the add says, select varieties yet doesn't list them and they aren't anywhere on the shelf labels. Will I come again. Yes, probably. Will I be a regular customer - nah. Ballard is a much nicer store, has a larger organic dept and I'll stick with them. read more

oh, fred meyer. you're like the awkward lovechild of wal-mart and shop-ko. i get you. what i don't get is your shitty employees and sometimes ridiculous prices. especially electronics. the electronics department was a mess and had the wrong prices on the shelves... the wireless usb thing that i picked up said $30 on the shelf but rang up at $70+! the guy was a jerk about it, too. i found the same adapter at target in northgate for around $30. read more

I like this Fred Meyer. Not only because it's literally across the street from my house but because it was recently remodeled. The only sad thing about it is the Big street sign has already become mildew ridden and looks old. They need to power wash it this spring to keep the store looking great. They have a decent selection of organic food. I even went out on a limb and purchased a chair and ottoman from there. Very friendly and helpful staff. read more

It's weird. The crappy old fred meyer was better. I hate robot cashiers. The hardware section is weak. The pharmacist was nice to me (very sweet lady). Don't ever buy a bike there. It's not a bike store. Their bikes suck. The whole place was arranged by a crazy person who thought they were being clever or something, especially the grocery area.
